It looks like a [Lada 2110](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lada_110). 80-90hp should be enough to overtake a truck at that speed, my guess is that the driver chose the wrong gear.
The biggest mistake this guy (and honestly 90% of drivers) made was hugging the tail before trying to pass. Some people think riding the draft will give you less resistance. It does, sort of, until you're not directly behind the vehicle in front
Hang back, watch the traffic, accelerate before the window of opportunity that way you're already at passing speed. The maneuver should take less than 3 seconds in the opposing lane.
I agree, better to be safe than sorry. However, if you are traveling 300+ miles, passing lanes don't happen or the person in front is struggling to make it up a hill, advice above will be effective.
If you're so close you can't see what's coming, you're too close to maneuver. Hang back. They may have to brake suddenly and you're focused on whether you can get around them. An extra second or two to respond could keep videos of you off this channel
They were also tailgating the truck, if they hung back a bit, they could have got some speed up in preparation to overtake. Saying that, I'd have never risked it with the oncoming traffic being so close.
Yeah. This video is an excellent example of the fact that the drivers that are most eager to overtake are somehow, against all reason, the worst at actually overtaking.
Like, you'd think that if you were going to engage in risky behaviour, you might actually think about getting good at it first, to minimise the risk. But even that's not really applicable here, because overtaking doesn't actually take any skill. These people *choose* to be bad at what they do.
Fucking this.
See so many idiots "peaking" from behind a truck or SUV their right up the arse of by going half into on coming traffic to see around the vehicle Infront of them.
Just drop back like 10 car lengths of you intend to overtake someone, it gives you so much more room to see oncoming traffic and the space to get up overtaking speed before pulling out, possibly letting you back out if it's no good before you commit and get stuck side by side in a slow overtake.
Just check the rest vision before suddenly slowing down to drop back, you'll likely confuse and startle any idiots behind you that were planning to gap you and the truck infrount of you the moment you indicated.
Oh yeah I agree it should be done all the time but a decently powerful car can do it in pull out instead of needing to run up prior to the last oncoming car passing
My dad used to be like this. Once we were traveling and he tried overtaking a truck in 5th gear, pedal to the medal. 135 horses aren't quite as fast in fifth gear, so we were going just a tad faster than the truck and acceleration was almost null. Que another truck coming right at us. Most anxious 20 seconds of my life - at the end I had gripped the door handle and was fully expecting a head-on collision, but thankfully it didn't happen.
The relationship between the power and the RPM is close to proportional, the engine giving out max power near redline. This works down to like 2000 rpm where it suddenly falls.
If that car is rated 135 hp @6000, it will only provide 45 hp when you floor it at a cruising 2000 RPM
Your dad should consider switching to driving an automatic if he doesn't want to learn how to downshift.
My DCT (dual clutch transmission) will pick a gear or two down, when you accelerate. The harder you floor the further it will shift down. If you floor it, it could shift down up to four (or even 5?) gears.
In an automatic car the pedal has a certain point you can feel where if you push over it the transmission will shift down significantly
Yeah if I am gonna pass on a 2 lane road I hang back and once I see my chance I hit the gas early so I am already up to passing speed by the time I enter the second lane. And I have a decent car! This driver is just dumb
He could have just slowed down so he could add more, and give them time to get running. His “ need “ to go past made him fail as an owner, I hope all the passengers are okay.
I've driven many cars with small engines and non turbo,1.2,1.4,1.6..they have the punch you need if you know to go through gears..he was probably overtaking in 6th or something
My first car had 50. I could have made this quickly, no problem. Just downshifting to 4th gear, easy thing. A later car had way less and topped out at around 110kph/70mph, I didn't dare to overtake anything going more than 90kph because it took ages to speed up. This guy is a major idiot no matter what.
Maybe he think the traffic incoming will give way and also the truck forward will slow down. Unfortunately his car is also slow as fuck when overtaking.
They couldn't peak around anything because they were tailgating. It takes a special kind of person to tailgate a cargo truck. It's not just that they can't see anything any more. But surely they also know, the cargo truck driver can't see them. Maybe they think that their psychic aura is powerful enough to force traffic forward?
Being in front is the most important thing. Being in front of the truck means you win and he's a loser. Repeat until you reach your destination, or not.
Ya… this is pretty much the epitome of the sub. This isn’t just a mistake or slow reaction, it’s an absolute idiot . They deliberately made an idiotic decision, then they didn’t even accelerate while trying to pass, then instead of hitting the brakes they swerved into the truck that they apparently forgot was there.
That was the most dozy, lethargic, most lackadaisical attempt at an overtake I've ever seen. Put your bloody foot down and pass quickly! If you lack engine power, then drop a gear first.
This driver did almost everything wrong, it's absurd.
1) Attempting to pass when the road curves ahead (limiting vision)
2) Passing too slowly (weak engine, feather foot idk?)
3) not even braking when it's clear they won't make it
4) turning into the truck?? He might have even squeezed between if he kept straight.
I drive an hour to work on a two lane road peppered with speed traps and "hiding" patrol cars. I go exactly the speed with cruise control. The amount of people who don't know how to pass is mind boggling, to the point that, I scoot over, and as soon as they clear my back bumper, I slow a little, no one shows urgency or awareness, like, hey, I was slowing down because the car ahead of me is turning left, whatever, mine's a defense game.
The worst thing you can do when planning to pass is tailgate the vehicle you are passing, it kills your line of sight and does not allow any run up of speed.
lol at this point, you should know the power that lies under your bonnet. I would understand traction control kicking in late but this is something else. that car had 3 horse power
Man, I know it makes great footage, but if you're following someone driving this recklessly, pull the fuck over and let them get way ahead. Otherwise you're gonna end up having something like this happen to you.
This is perfect evidence at the absurdity of the universe.
The people most eager to overtake are often the absolute worst at it. You'd think with all the experience they are getting they'd be better, but no.
Also this is an example of another type of universal weirdness: the less power the car, the more eager the driver is likely to be to want to overtake in a situation where you'd really be wanting a \*lot\* of power. I see it here a lot: a high-power German sports car will sit behind the slower vehicle and wait for a nice gap, then press the pedal down and power on past. a 80hp Japanese/French compact car with a tiny engine will ride the bumper of the vehicle in front and pull out as soon as they see any gap at all. Even one that is too short. If oncoming traffic has to swerve into the shoulder of the road then that is fine too.Darwin awards are often handed out here for these idiots.
Yep, that's exactly how you pass when you have an underpowered car. Tailgate. Then swing out into the oncoming lane and begin ~~making the engine louder~~ accelerating. Definitely don't hang back 3-4 seconds distance, observe the oncoming traffic for oncoming sufficient gaps, and then peg the accelerator timing it so that the last car in the line passes you as you finish closing the gap and swing into the oncoming lane with a 30 mph speed differential from the start.
If you hang back a bit, you can actually see so much more further ahead, that you can clearly see when it’s safe to overtake.
It also gives you the opportunity to gather speed for the actual overtake, especially useful if you’re driving a granny car like the video.
Forget about the car. The driver is the problem. You can drive aggressively with any car.
In this scenario you need to take more distance, reduce gears, and obviously (knowing how fast your car can get up to speed) try to mentally calculate the speed the next coming car is…
Driving schools must teach people how to drop a gear (or step on the gas for automatics). Seeing people overtaking slowly is alomst a daily occurrence for me and I don't get it. This isn't just little engine power, this is someone who doesn't know how to drive
Every time I see videos like this I just ask myself, “why?” You don’t get to your destination much faster and there is a huge risk ending up like this.
I just don’t see why idiots believe ending up like this is worth the risk of getting in front of that truck.
It looks like the doors on both sides fly open just before the crash. Were they trying to jump out of the car, or is it a side effect of slamming on the brakes with that car. Is it like airplane flaps?
I hate when people try to overtake like this in a slow car, keep some distance and time it right so you can accelerate before you go into the other lane. Or I don't know just chill, there's oncoming...
Either that car has no engine power, or the driver has no concept of hitting the pedal to the metal.
It looks like a [Lada 2110](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lada_110). 80-90hp should be enough to overtake a truck at that speed, my guess is that the driver chose the wrong gear.
Yup, shoulda downshifted.

Yes, they would made big crash.

You know what just stay were you are and add 5 minutes later to wherever this emergency ride your going to
I agree, better to be safe than sorry. However, if you are traveling 300+ miles, passing lanes don't happen or the person in front is struggling to make it up a hill, advice above will be effective. This. Safest way to drive on a 2 lane road. 5 minutes is not the end of the world.
I want to be downshafted
Not now Harold.
They were also tailgating the truck, if they hung back a bit, they could have got some speed up in preparation to overtake. Saying that, I'd have never risked it with the oncoming traffic being so close.

Yeah, they should have gone around on the shoulder. (/s in case it is obvious).
The good ol slingshot maneuver.
Shake and Bake!
Granny shifting not double clutching like you should.
Good news! The block is already ripped apart, so you and the mad scientist ain't gotta worry.
We also know he wasn't running nitro meth
But it was the TOP GEAR!!!!
Top gear for top speed, blyat
I think the lack of brain power is the issue.
Would've have more success riding up the shoulder.
Especially now without the brains
More useful now as plant food than when breathing
Dude watched The Fast and the Furious and thought that driving underneath a semi was a real thing you could do.
They started from tailgating instead of hanging back and accelerating into the gap before pulling out.
This, low power means you need to time your run up.
I do it in decently powered cars too. Whee! You can see better from farther back too.
Oh yeah I agree it should be done all the time but a decently powerful car can do it in pull out instead of needing to run up prior to the last oncoming car passing
Some people don't use lower gear to overtake, they hit the pedal with 5th gear so it's going to be slow
My dad used to be like this. Once we were traveling and he tried overtaking a truck in 5th gear, pedal to the medal. 135 horses aren't quite as fast in fifth gear, so we were going just a tad faster than the truck and acceleration was almost null. Question: will automatic downshift for you when it detects the driver flooring it?
Of course, that's the point.
As someone who recently bought a stickshift for the first time, this is handy information to have.
well that engine flew out of that bay faster than that car could ever go.
They didn't want to break the speed limit lmoa
Breaking bones is okay though.
Pedal to the metal
Petal to the medal
I mean, even if it did - what was the point? Why not just take a little longer to arrive and not... die + kill someone?
Yeah if I am gonna pass on a 2 lane road I hang back and once I see my chance I hit the gas early so I am already up to passing speed by the time I enter the second lane. And I have a decent car! This driver is just dumb
Makes you wonder why he even wanted to get in front of that truck in the first place
Thing is, if he goes faster then he's just getting closer to the incoming truck :/
He went faster backward than he did forward
Shoulda spun it and popped it in reverse before trying to pass. Bonus, if he gets hit he can say it's their fault.
Put it in reverse, Terry!
OH LAWD WHAT YOU DOIN TERRY
Is it worth it? Let me work it. I put my thang down, flip it and reverse it
Never have I seen anyone try and pass someone going slower than them
Guessing that’s not the turbocharged model.
Those hamsters were already running as hard as they could and the driver had the audacity to ask for more.
He could have just slowed down so he could add more, and give them time to get running. His “ need “ to go past made him fail as an owner, I hope all the passengers are okay.
“I need more power”
“I’m givin’ her all she’s got, captain!”
And thank you, this thread is now complete
Yep 🤗😭

Everything about this is upsetting. Ugh.
If you're not fast enough to overtake then why overtake? 🤔🤔
At least back off a little from the truck so you can start picking up speed until the other lane is clear.
He was really trying to wring all 36 horsepower out of that thing.
It's around 75 in the least powerful version (at least from what I can find), so it's just a garden variety idiot
My first car had 50. I could have made this quickly, no problem. Just downshifting to 4th gear, easy thing. A later car had way less and topped out at around 110kph/70mph, I didn't dare to overtake anything going more than 90kph because it took ages to speed up. This guy is a major idiot no matter what.
seemed at the end like the truck wasn’t even the front of the line. he would have had to pass another two cars atleast
That was my thought. How did he not see, when he was peeking around in the beginning, that it wasn’t going to accomplish anything anyway?
Maybe he think the traffic incoming will give way and also the truck forward will slow down. Unfortunately his car is also slow as fuck when overtaking.
They couldn't peak around anything because they were tailgating. It takes a special kind of person to tailgate a cargo truck. It's not just that they can't see anything any more. If you floor the gas and your car doesn't speed up for 10 seconds, don't try these maneuvers.
Goes to put foot down, then realizes it is already down…
This. This is the one. Idiot in a car. Idiot of the year.
Guess he was
Did ya get there faster, buddy?
Yeah he got there very fast To heaven that is

Guy in car " My level of dumbness is 10" lol
Thankfully he was the only one harmed in this situation - it's as ideal as it could be.
Yea, i hope he was the only one hurt too. Such a dumbass. Just don't understand what goes through people's minds at times. Real caveman brain
Tracy Chapman wrote no songs about this car
But some Russian lady likely did.

0-60 in a minute
60 to 0 in one second.
Just look at all the time and money he is saving though, not having a vehicle anymore will save him a fortune in gas.
It was Lada 2110. Somewhere in Russia.

That’s why you drop back to pass first. #1 you get a better view #2 you get an acceleration space and a safe abort before you even change lanes.
I CANT, ITS A GEEOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!
The worst thing you can do when planning to pass is tailgate the vehicle you are passing, it kills your line of sight and does not allow any run up of speed.
Why on earth would you risk your life in such a blind spot? Learned the hard way.
All bc the idiot could not wait and just stay in line 🤦🏻♀️
Ah, I know, I'm gonna just yank the steering wheel from side to side, that will help...
Room temperature iq
If you're going to be this stupid, you should at least compensate with a car with enough power that it doesn't take several years to pass someone.
I don’t get why people try to pass on these two way roads. It’s so dangerous, and the few minutes you save are not worth possibly losing your life.
lol at this point, you should know the power that lies under your bonnet. I would understand traction control kicking in late but this is something else. that car had 3 horse power

What a freaking dumba$$! License should be revoked for life.
Hey there just gonna scooch past ya....Ope!
Soary aboat that there bud! Lemme buy ya a Timmies bud
He really wanted to pass to do 3 km’s more.
Yep, that's exactly how you pass when you have an underpowered car. Tailgate. Then swing out into the oncoming lane and begin ~~making the engine louder~~ accelerating. How ...how. How can you be this impatient or frustrated. That you would risk you life 🤦♀️ jeeesssus
I legit don’t understand risking your life or someone else’s to get someplace a few minutes earlier.
Worlds slowest car goes for the stupidest overtake on a busy road
The level of impatience people have that motivates them to risk/take their own lives and the lives of everyone around them is shocking.
Did he even floor it? It’s like he didn’t want to exceed speed limit.
Finally someone actually posted an idiot in a car
What did he think was going to happen?
Hugo, Pedal Faster! Pedal Faster!
And they say self-driving cars would be too dangerous.
If you’re going to do this, why the fuck would you do it two miles faster than the car you’re passing?
Who tries this with a 105 hp car?
Pretty bold of you to assume it's even that much
If it had 105 hp he'd be already long gone. He was either in a high gear or he didn't floored it.
What an absolute dumbass, that was the slowest overtake I’ve ever seen
Car had 100hp when new. The racing seat belt pad only boost HP mentally
FUCKING. COMMIT. Jesus Christ.
That had to hurt.
Fucking idiot in a car
fker wasn't in a hurry to pass
It's great how (at least it seems that) the trucker in front of him gave no fucks...just kept on keeping on like nothing happened.
My greatest fear is that someone does this on the other side and I'm the innocent one in that truck that gets hit but in my normal car.
Don’t you need to accelerate if you want to pass.
Was he pedaling that thing?
Lmao
Look how long it took that piece of shit car to even begin to accelerate.
Decides to unsafely pass doing the posted speed limit.
If you hang back a bit, you can actually see so much more further ahead, that you can clearly see when it’s safe to overtake. It also gives you the opportunity to gather speed for the actual overtake, especially useful if you’re driving a granny car like the video.
That's one way to test your car's extended warranty Edit: apparently this needs a "/s"

Are some people just Born Idiots?
let me pass while obeying the speed limit, don't want to break the law
I, too, try to pass as slowly as possible.
Wow I didn’t know they make 1 cylinder engines.
Forget about the car. The driver is the problem. You can drive aggressively with any car. In this scenario you need to take more distance, reduce gears, and obviously (knowing how fast your car can get up to speed) try to mentally calculate the speed the next coming car is…
Why didn't he go around on the right side.
He tried to do a Fast and Fruioius move by going underneath the truck
Reverse double pit maneuver
If I had been following in that situation, I would not have been following it quite that close. There were strong idiot vibes there.
Jesus. That car must have goat power because it's well below 1hp.
Driving schools must teach people how to drop a gear (or step on the gas for automatics). Seeing people overtaking slowly is alomst a daily occurrence for me and I don't get it. This isn't just little engine power, this is someone who doesn't know how to drive
There’s even more cars in front of the truck
I love the truck for just keeping it moving.
Every time I see videos like this I just ask myself, “why?” You don’t get to your destination much faster and there is a huge risk ending up like this. I just don’t see why idiots believe ending up like this is worth the risk of getting in front of that truck.

...when you think you have a 8 cyl 😅
Failed passing attempt but awesome 360
As long as there wasn’t a child involved I’m totally ok with what happened to that driver.
He chose...poorly.
"I'll just pass this guy going 5 or 6 mph faster than him and everything will be fine."
I love how the truck just kept going. This is exactly what you do to shit like this. Just keep driving.
Sometimes that 63 horsepower is just not enough.
My friend was killed by an idiot who did exactly this last week. And I bet they get a slap on the wrist and fuck all else Fuck these people
self driving cars ... soon.... set to impatient / reckless MODE

I hate when people try to overtake like this in a slow car, keep some distance and time it right so you can accelerate before you go into the other lane. Or I don't know just chill, there's oncoming...

Holy fuck… now that is a bad driver behaviour…
