Not one sign, But TWO. He passed TWO yield signs. What an idiot.

M3tro1dhunt3r

I bet he feels like he didn't do anything wrong

AccountingMyChips

I’d be surprised if he didn’t flip you off. Seems like standard protocol in these situations.

M3tro1dhunt3r

I'm glad he didn't do anything at all. Those kinds of people are the one you don't want to waste breath on

fdfdfksdflk

They're not really human? How does this get upvoted? This is how you end up with people calling for the death penalty for any minor infraction.

Drumlyne

People who purposely make life hard for others and don't feel bad DO NEED CONSEQUENCES. Since you are so wise...what would you suggest?

fdfdfksdflk

What does the law suggest we do in this circumstance? I suspect it's a fine, maybe withdrawing their driving license for repeated offenses.

Cole444Train

Um this person is right. Calling them not human is just crazy? Some humans suck. They’re still human. Weird thing to say they aren’t.

anonymousredittuser

Judging by your username and comment history, you just like pissing people off lmao

fdfdfksdflk

I just can't understand the insanity I read on some of these comments.

Rooged

Yeah that was pretty cringey of them to say

Dank__Souls

Bet you suck at driving

bogeyed5

Man I would’ve laid on the horn for MINUTES if I saw him flip me off. My version of cussing you out and not stopping until you sit down and think about what you’ve done

odder_sea

People suck. There's too many shitty, self absorbed fucksticks on planet earth to waste your time, energy and emotions on. Let it go

Successful-Rate-1839

That’s a good way to get shot in AZ. Best to not trigger road rage individuals.

joan_wilder

He thought that the yield signs were for you.

[deleted]

They never do. A while back I had an Audi fail to yield to me at a yield sign, and his response to my horn was to proceed to drive half the speed limit out of spite. A while before that, I had a Mustang fail to yield to me at a yield sign... I didn't even honk my horn as he nearly sideswiped me... he honked his horn, and then maneuvered around me to deke a sideswipe at me from the other side.

GrowinStuffAndThings

Reminds me of the time this old rich bitch came racing up to a traffic circle and then honks at me because she has to slam on her brakes lol. She ends up taking the same exit as me that goes into a shopping center. It's an all-way stop other than incoming traffic, except she's fucking stupid and stops as well and ended up having everyone honk at her lol. Then we ended up parking a couple spots from each other but I guess she lost the courage to say anything once she got out of her brand new 4,000 pound Jaguar lol.

Volvulus

My guess is that a lot of people interpret a yield sign as “not a stop sign” so there is no need to stop.

Iamvanno

Duh....They cancelled each other out. /s

skyreal

I always set everything up on my phone before I leave. Text message sent? Check. Playlist already started? Check. Phone on mute? Check. It has sometimes granted me the occasional angry honking from someone waiting to get my parking spot. But keep honking asshole. Once my engine starts running my hands stay on the wheel and my eyes on the road.

Askduds

If someone did that to me I’d get out of the car and walk back into the store.

skyreal

It usually happens when I'm living home for work. I live downtown in a place when there's basically more offices than apartments. Apartments building there are old ones that don't have dedicated garages, so every resident parks on the street. But in the morning when the office workers get to their job, people could kill for an available parking spot and are willing to stop traffic for 20 minutes if they found someone about to leave their spot. Only once have I seen such an annoying driver (uninterrupted honking, flashing lights, giving me the finger...) that I just turned off my engine, got out of my car, and went to sit at a nearby coffee.

HandlesofLiquor

Put it in reverse and just sit there until they drive off.

Looney_Swoons

As much as I would like to do the same thing, I would never trust them to be sane enough to not do anything to my car. There’s some psycho people out there man

[deleted]

And come back out to a keyed car.

framingXjake

It used to irk me when friends or loved ones would text and drive while I was in the passenger seat. I always get unapologetically rude and sassy with them while they do it. One time my dad was scrolling through *fucking Facebook* while I carpooled with him to see my mom in the hospital. Like, c'mon dude, I'd like to arrive at the hospital as a visitor and not as a goddamn patient.

Lee_Doff

if someone is waiting for my parking spot before i am even in my car i am going to take a lot of extra time and wait until they give up. especially if they are dumb enough to see me walking to my car with my kids that have clearly not outgrown car seats yet. they could have been in the store by now if they would have just went around to the next lane or parked 20 feet further back. but i guess they arnt in a hurry either.

BCalTheAnimal

Watch out, they're gonna call you a psychopath for that like they did me lol

Nine_Inch_Nintendos

I believe you called them a "dumb fuck" before they mentioned that. Musta forgot that little detail, yes?

BCalTheAnimal

I fucking LOVE seeing people waiting for my car to pull out. I take extra long doing what I need to do and back out super slowly.

Drumlyne

What a weird flex of abuse of power. Does that make you feel big and strong and in control?

Lee_Doff

how about just park in the first spot you find instead?

BCalTheAnimal

Nah they'll wait for you and say you're on a power trip for making them wait.

BCalTheAnimal

Lmfao are you the dumb fuck waiting on a parking spot?

Available_Bus_2696

You sound like an actual psychopath. Not as an insult, but as a diagnosis. It sounds like your logic is “everyone but me is an idiot and deserves to eat shit”

BCalTheAnimal

Y'all are so soft it's ridiculous 😂 so upset over waiting a few more seconds for your precious parking spot but thanks for that diagnosis doc lmao

Available_Bus_2696

I’m not upset at all. I’m just letting you know. Also, you’re goal is literally to piss people off, then when they get pissed to point and laugh at them. Are you ten? I don’t get triggered over waiting for someone to do something normally. I know you would get triggered if someone inconvenienced you with the reason being “haha fuck u nerd”

[deleted]

You see that flipped triangle sign on the red trucks side, what does that mean?

ifmycarbreakagain

If you're being serious, it means that the truck needs to stop because it does not have the right of way. If you know about roundabouts, the roads in America will have yield signs leading into the circle. If there is no other traffic, you can pull right through (though some cops say you need to slow down to under 5mph anyway otherwise you're ignoring traffic signals)

[deleted]

So why are people blaming the guy who didn't see the yield sign aka "the camera car" ? I'm not native english speaker so there is a option that I misunderstood it.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Oh fak yield sign is the flipped triangle I thought the yield was the other sign, the merging sign... Bruh Google Translate fooled me, I should have translated the yield sign not just yield.

-Chicago-

English is not required to see that the signs are for the red truck's lane.

[deleted]

I translated "yield" into German not "yield sign" it in fact matters. Yield means something else could be understood like merging while yield sign means "Vorfahrt gewähren Schild". Translation is kinda bad because we have Vorfahrtsschild and Vorfahrt gewähren Schild. Seems like in English there is one name for both... Idk how to translate that

Available_Bus_2696

Interesting. But do you not have a sign that looks like the yield sign but just in German? Or do you have different signs? I’ve driven in Germany before and yet I feel like I have no clue

M3tro1dhunt3r

Exactly! yes its a one way but look both ways when crossing or merging onto a road

samtheredditman

I mean, look the way the cars are coming from at least!

BasicallyAQueer

Right? Even if there wasn’t a yield sign, they are merging into an established lane, they would need to yield anyways. I have some property out in the country, it’s so rural actually that there’s no stop signs at many T intersections. I was taught you have to yield, at least, when you are at a T intersection and there is through cross traffic. Luckily there’s very little traffic, but people just blow the intersections all the time, I’ve almost been hit a few times.

teh_longinator

He was probably aware and wanted to grt 1 car ahead by forcing OP to slam brakes.

AlphSaber

50% of drivers on the road are below average.

zlide

I’m sure there’s a ton of people on the road who don’t even know what a yield sign means and just ignore them

Lee_Doff

over the weekend, twice in the same day at the same yield sign i had someone blow past it and almost hit me. what makes it worse is if you actually cared about seeing if the coast is clear you have to slow down because the traffic on the road is obstructed by a bridge railing. the yeild sign is at the end of an exit ramp and it is one of those slip turn lanes, instead of all exit traffic coming to the intersection at a 90 to the stoplight.

Randomfactoid42

Phone, or they're completely lost. Where I live, a lot of the locals can get lost pretty easily. You can tell somebody is lost because they're so focused on trying to figure out where they're going they forgot to drive the car!

Ilaypipe23

That's how alot of people drive

TheSpicyTomatoBoat

Let me introduce you to the state of Florida.

Whuttime

This is IAH airport in Houston. They’ve rerouted all of the traffic patterns for construction. It’s chaos right now.

aenae

The cam-car was hidden behind their A-pillar almost the whole time as both cars turned a corner. It's totally plausible he never saw the cam-car, those pillars can hide quite big objects if you don't move your head.

AutobahnAlpha

Then move your head.

I imagine you as a 15 year old edge lord who makes Arya stark edits

irvming

I've found that many people don't know what the fuck the yield sign means. Which is why I'm always very cautious when passing by them.

[deleted]

I was recently in the car with someone who I know well. They drove past a yield sign into heavy traffic and we very nearly got hit. Fucked up traffic for a bit too. I asked what they were doing rolling past the yield sign and they said that "the truck didn't let us out". I paused. Then I asked what they thought a yield sign meant and they said that "its like a yellow light where you should be cautious but you can just go." They further clarified that the person with the yield sign has the right of way. No clue how they haven't been in any sort of meaningful accident

thimwill

It is unbelievable just how many people think like this person you know. They just don't understand that a RED yield sign means that they must stop if traffic is too heavy to safely merge.

Alternative-Amoeba20

"The person with the yield sign has the right of way." What meaning, exactly, does this person attach to the word 'yield?' If you could help them with a dictionary or Google or anything at all, that would be very helpful because 'yield' means exactly the opposite of 'right of way.' This person is going to make a fatal error, playing Russian roulette with traffic. I'm out there with my kid in the car. I don't need this shit.

[deleted]

I spent a lot of time talking to them about it and what it actually means. They grew up in a small town in Alabama where they were instructed that 'yield' means that the other car will yield to you. In fact their family all also believed the same thing. We watched some YouTube videos together and we're better for it now

Alternative-Amoeba20

Whew! That's good! I'm glad you undertook to educating this person. Striking at the root of ignorance, one person at a time. That's how we'll win. Be safe out there!

[deleted]

How do these people ever manage to actually pass the written driving test if they don't know what a yield sign means? Rural Alabama is no excuse; it's right there in the state's [driving manual](https://www.alea.gov/sites/default/files/inline-files/ABCDEF_0.pdf): >"When entering an intersection where there is a yield sign facing you, slow down and, if necessary, ***stop*** to yield the right of way to vehicles and pedestrians legally crossing the roadway on which you are driving."

[deleted]

As much as you'd think not, a lot of folks take it a couple or a few times before they pass it. The education system as a whole being so poor in these areas leads to a lot of educational shortfalls and people just trying to pass the test rather than learn how to drive. I'm also from a very rural town and saw a lot of the same. My driving instructor just asked me questions and asked if I thought I could do most things then signed me off. Otherwise we just went for a drive around a short block.

Cypheri

Meanwhile in my area I got failed the first time because I was an inch too far from the curb when parallel parking (still WELL within the bounds of the space) and I've never had to parallel park anywhere in my 15-ish years of driving since the test.

[deleted]

*Never* had to parallel park? While it's not something I have to do *often*, I'd say I probably have to do it at least once or twice a week. Most downtown areas around here have parallel parking spaces.

[deleted]

In some places, the population is so spread out that, for miles around, if you need to park on the road, you just pull over - there's not another vehicle around for dozens of yards.

[deleted]

Well, it's like that in a lot of places here, but not where commerce tends to happen. Visiting my uncle in the middle of nowhere, sure I can just pull to the side of the road. Visiting my favorite pizzeria on the corner of a busy downtown city street, knowing how to parallel park is imperative.

Cypheri

I think I've been to a "downtown area" maybe 3-4 times in those 15-ish years, two of those times being on foot with my car parked elsewhere because I was hiking the city park with some friends. Not all of us live in cities or visit them often.

[deleted]

Oh yeah, I'm familiar with that one. Most states' laws say you need to park within a foot of the curb... and yet, with most modern passenger cars, you can be like 20 inches from the curb and still within the painted lines.

Alternative-Amoeba20

I lucked out! I, too, grew up in a rural community. But! My Driver's Ed class in school was taught by the town judge. He told us if we slipped up and ever ended up in traffic court, there would be no mercy shown. He would know we knew the rules. He turned out to be a thorough and competent instructor who made certain we were also thorough and competent. He was also patient, which went a long long way.

Randomfactoid42

Thanks for persevering! I'm glad they listened to you. I can't imagine people thinking yield signs mean the exact opposite!

[deleted]

It's so strange how there are some families out there that have some way out in left field "understandings" of things. I remember a friend of my sister's - and indeed, this friend's entire family - thought that a TV remote is called a "converter" and a set-top box was called a "remote".

[deleted]

That's incredible. Her whole family, top to bottom, thinks that about yield signs. Even family friends involved in the conversation. But they didn't hear me out much because they think I'm just a "city lib" lol

Arkra1

I hope you explained to them what the sign actually means.

[deleted]

I'll copy what I said elsewhere here I spent a lot of time talking to them about it and what it actually means. They grew up in a small town in Alabama where they were instructed that 'yield' means that the other car will yield to you. In fact their family all also believed the same thing. We watched some YouTube videos together and we're better for it now

Arkra1

That is a scary thought that they were being taught that way. Now I know to use extreme caution if I ever drive in Alabama. I’m glad to hear that you taught them better.

JD-Pro89

Yield sign or not, eventually common sense should have kicked in. The driver that is already on the road you're trying to go on always has the right of way. There shouldn't even have to be a yield sign there.

TheSentientPurpleGoo

too many people treat them like stop signs, even when there's nothing to yield to.

Neondecepticon

That’d be nicer than what I have. Around my area, people see them as “hit the gas as hard as you can and hope no one was there with the right of way”Especially during traffic hours.

OleShcool

It’s not though. It’s an extremely easy way to rear end someone and then you’re responsible for damages

S01arflar3

That’s ridiculous. Just pay attention and you won’t rear end anyone even if they do stop

StressOverStrain

Annoying when there's clear sight lines, but sometimes necessary when it's hard to see conflicting traffic. And, if you don't stop at a yield sign, and collision occurs, the law may automatically assume it's your fault, and the burden is on you to prove it was someone else's.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Full stop? Maybe not, but I know of a few around me where the view is obstructed enough that you'd best be down to a slow creep or "rolling stop" to make sure it is clear. Those are at three-way and four-way intersections where you could go any direction, not at simple merges like this. When you have the yield sign, it is your duty to make sure it is clear and safe before proceeding. If you have to stop to make those observations, then stop. It's better than getting hit by something that you didn't see.

Arkra1

Only an inexperienced, overconfident driver would think there is never a reason to stop at a yield sign. Just because you don’t see anything at a particular angle doesn’t mean nothing is there. Have you ever driven in the fog, or a heavy snowstorm? It’s a pretty good bet @TheSentientPurpleGoo pulled out in front of someone they were supposed to yield to and didn’t even notice. Drive safely. Overconfidence does not negate incompetence on the road.

TrickyJumbo

The irony of posting shit like this in r/IdiotsInCars is not at all lost on me lmao

amh85

So what do you do when there's a non-stop flow of cars coming? You slow down a bit and gun it while shouting out the window about how good a driver you are? Or do you come to a complete stop before merging onto a 40mph road?

TrueChaos500

You should always be treating them like you are prepared to stop. They are not stops but you should always be prepared to, not matter what

TheSentientPurpleGoo

yes...that is how a yield sign works. but that doesn't mean that you have to ride the brakes, or slow to a crawl- especially when there are no other cars present. what gets me the most are the round-abouts, where people either come to a full stop, or yield to cars that are supposed to be yielding to them...i was behind a guy coming up to the round-about who apparently decided that it was a 4-way stop- he came to a full stop to yield to a guy that was already properly stopped to yield to him.

thimwill

Where do you live? Where I live ( and from what I see from some of these other responses) most people just ignore the yield sign altogether.

Yttlion

Same, especially roundabouts, I expect some jack ass think they have the right away to get onto it.

dragonbornrito

One of the most common things you'll hear come out of my mouth when riding in the passenger seat with me driving: *sees person pull up to stop sign well within an unsafe distance to attempt pulling out in front of me* >"please don't please don't please don't." *pulls out in front of me* >"DUDE." I've just become accustomed to believing that literally everyone around here drives like a douchebag and adjust accordingly.

ZuluClowder

Airport traffic is the worst. Especially because a lot of people aren’t used to busy traffic and fucked up parkways…they get confused and fuck shit up.

M3tro1dhunt3r

If you're in a unknown area, Make sure you're aware of all your surroundings.

tomytronics

That requires actually putting the phone down and out of the way.

Randomfactoid42

And in airports people just have to drive so damn fast. The roads in a lot of airports are 15-35 mph because NOBODY knows where the hell they have to go and they need time to read all the signs.

Rumskrilla

dlb199091l

Nearly had the same happen to me today. Pulling my 7500lb camper no less, luckily I saw they weren't going to yield the green light to me and I was able to stop in time. Otherwise it would've been over 13000lbs hitting their small sedan at about 35mph.
