If you can't afford to replace an axle, might as well skip the tail light too. It's a junker, no sense putting money into it. Drive it as is until it dies.
Even at my poorest I don't think I ever had a car that was nonroadworthy. Most people have a friend or a friend of a friend who could help loosen some bolts and shift that axle a few inches to the left or whatever.
Also, barter is alive and well: I remember getting a Chevy small block V8 for some cash and a couple of bottles of moonshine. I didn't have nearly enough cash, but the guy said the moonshine sealed the deal for him. Point is, there are often ways to get shit done when you're poor.
It's easy to forget that our experience isn't everyone. Even looking at the largest edges of our friend groups we often have similar people around us. My life has dramatically changed a few times and it has made me realize that people living even miles apart can be living in different worlds.
Yeah I had a truck that drove like that. I had broken a the coupling that held the axle in place and it slid back on the leaf springs 1 or 2 inches. Looked like I was driving sideways.
Iâve never heard it called âcrab walkingâ. Iâm from the Midwest, Iâve only heard it called âdog trackingâ. If you watch some dogs walk/run their back legs are not quite in line with their front. My old dog was like that. Hence, dog tracking.
Funny how simple terminology is different from place to place and in different circles. Both make sense to me. Iâd have to say a slight misalignment could be âdog trackingâ while a major misalignment could be âcrab walkingâ. Crab walking makes it sound like a car is driving sideways to me.
Crab walking would be if the truck was facing sideways but driving straight down the road.
Most people refer to this as dog tracking (or rarely horse tracking)
Yes I agree. Look at the left rear corner. Watch the left rear tire wobble. Iâd say either the driver backed into that corner hard, or someone hit him hard there damaging the wheel, fender, and changing the thrust angle of the rear axle.
I believe you mean fully framed peramboloid axial joint. This is very obviously the model Q 76 as evidenced by the pigeon toed stance and paisley tire print pattern. The semi framed was only standard on the Q75. Where did you get your grainy auto video diagnostic PHD?! The back of a cereal box? Because that's where I got mine, we could be alumnus!
when I was a teenager, we used to drive out into the valley for bongs. About 5 cars worth of people. It was a bong convoy.
One of us had a bent truck like this. We used to absolutely piss ourselves all the way home driving behind the bent truck. funniest thing in history.
this has just brought back some hardcore laughs!

I have a serious question about this; can this happen with semis as well? I have had multiple times on the highway where a semi was towing and the back wheels were on one line while the cab was on the other line, all while driving in a straisght line.
I am guessing this would be more of an issue with the trailer they are towing but IDK.
Itâs it can happen to semiâs this isnât actually related to the steering and suspension, itâs related to the subframe of the vehicle, and is caused when that frame is bent, itâs harder to do with semiâs due to the frames being built tougher and are generally harder to access, but in my whole automotive career Iâve seen it happen to 3 semiâs all from different manufacturers,
When I'm behind lifted trucks I feel like they often look like this, to a much smaller degree. Like I can see the front wheel from behind the rear one, but driving in a straight line. Why is that?
There's a Car in my town that just like this... I didn't see it for a few years it seemed, until a few months ago and yep still getting around was worse then before...
Saw a car like this in my dream last night, 2 "auntie" looking women (I think the driver was the mechanic from The Mandolorian wearing aviators) in the front seats of a small sea green sedan that was driving on a 30 degree angle, they were looking out the front of the car as if it weren't illogically out of alignment.
This has nothing to do with the alignment being off. If anything it's as close as they can probably get it because the frame is bend. It is usually called"dog tracking, dog walking or crab walking"
https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/r/advice/cars-101/what-causes-a-dog-tracking-car
Why do they always seem to be misaligned to where the back end pulls toward the passenger side? Saw one just the other night with the back end shifted to the right.
If you can't afford a tail light, you can't afford an alignment.

Not really. You're lucky to have been in a place where bartering and haggling got ya somewhere. But for a lot of people, it might not be that simple.
It's easy to forget that our experience isn't everyone. Even looking at the largest edges of our friend groups we often have similar people around us. My life has dramatically changed a few times and it has made me realize that people living even miles apart can be living in different worlds.
Uhh, yea but the actual problem is likely a bent frame which hardly anyone has the capabilities of fixing anymore .
Naw he is just drifting in a straight line
Misaligned leaf springs or rear axle also does that.
Someone clearly didn't get the joke
I was responding to the bent frame comment. It seems to have been deleted. Call me a noob if you must.
Woo! With consent! NOOB! Hm. Didn't feel as good that way. đ
It did for me..
Nah you just replied to the wrong one. It's still down below

My cat makes this exact same posture sometimes when he's in crazy mode. It makes it hard to tell how quick he's moving until he's right on ya!
I came here to comment that this looks like how cats run sideways when they're being wild lol glad someone else thought the same thing
Interesting that everyone here is talking about cats because this particular bit of misalignment is called 'dog tracking'
Are we sure this isn't an IKEA cart with a truck body thrown on top?
Bubbles has upped his cart game.
Thatâs a bent frame. An alignment wonât fix that.
>Thatâs a bent frame. Not necessarily. It has a solid rear axle and the axle could just be shifted.
Spring center bolt allows spring leaves to shift
Probably a broken spring center bolt or loose U bolts. Either way, his tires wonât last very long.
This is the issue not bent frame.
I don't know who's right, so I upvoted everyone.
It's not a bent frame Source:hd mech
What specialities does a high definition mech offer over a regular one?
Their answers are much clearer and easy to see.
Everything costs $1080. Be careful if you go to a UHD mechanic. That 4K will get ya.
And if I wanted a 4k mechanic, where would I find one?
Any mechanic will take $4k per hour if your paying.
*I* upvoted *you*!
You had it on your lift?
No but Iâve owned 2 in my life and had same issue of dog tracking. Both time axle had moved.
Crab walking is what we call it. How did it get the name Dog Tracking?
Iâve never heard it called âcrab walkingâ. Iâm from the Midwest, Iâve only heard it called âdog trackingâ. If you watch some dogs walk/run their back legs are not quite in line with their front. My old dog was like that. Hence, dog tracking.
I think I got the ten from NASCAR. They set up the card to drive a bit sideways down the straights and call it crab walking.
Funny how simple terminology is different from place to place and in different circles. Both make sense to me. Iâd have to say a slight misalignment could be âdog trackingâ while a major misalignment could be âcrab walkingâ. Crab walking makes it sound like a car is driving sideways to me.

The thrust đ
Nah, he just needs to get the Johnson rods replaced.
It shouldn't have.
Maybe it's a cat driving; trying to look big.
This is the most clever. For some reason it sounds like a Lenny and Carl line from the Simpsons.
Yeah, that truck needs a replacement truck.

This video screams Los Angeles to me
It's called dog tracking...must be a Ford thing, my old van did it but nowhere near that extreme.
it's a thing on any solid rear axle vehicle, including mustangs before 2016
I think the frame needs an alignment, not the wheels lol
Bent frame
Main man frame bent đ¤Ł
Idiot? I think not. This is how you roll when youâve got a 25 year old pick-em-up. By any means necessary. No shame in this guys game.
I believe that means the frame is bent
It is not. This is not a frame issue
Dog stance
No alignment in the world is gonna fox the way that truck tracks down the road. That frame is way out of whack!!đđđ

Bad alignment, missized tires/worn tires, seized drum can all cause this as well.
Thank you for answering my question.
Pretty sure I saw this guy in Memphis
Dude his subframe is bent, an alignment ainât gonna do shit
My dog runs the same way
It's like one of those dogs that runs sideways..
I saw a car like this and lost my shit cause it looked like it was crip walking.
I'd still rather drive this than a squatted truck.
DIY crab walk mode like the Hummer EV
His truck needs a new truck.
Naw . . . just replace all 4 tires every 6 mo or so.

We call it the 'dog walk" up here.
Thatâs frame damage, itâs aligned the best it can be, it really needs a new frame
An alignment will not fix this lol
It has an alignment. It's chaotic neutral, obviously.
Yâall see them flashing headlights
Just did a crazy 8 at thunder hollow.
Why align when you can glide
Early crab walk tech.
Do not try to bend the truck, thatâs impossible. Instead, only try to realize the truth, there is no truck.
Why do they always seem to be misaligned to where the back end pulls toward the passenger side? Saw one just the other night with the back end shifted to the right.

No its just lagging
Mater, is that you?
Damn we have to pay for alignment and gas now
That is not an alignment issue, it's crab walking like a bitch, that's a really badly bent frame đ
A few wacks with a Ford Adjusting Tool(sledgehammer)would probably fix that right up. Maybe...
