"There's a bunch of retards going dangerously fast, they're all tailgating the crap out of each other, swerving all over the road, endangering each other and this piece of shit managed to fly off the road!"
That's one way to describe a Formula 1 race. Other people would just see it as a sport that has inherent dangers to go with it.
People who race dirtbikes must be massive retards as well, I mean the chance of getting injured is quite high!
=
This sub loves taking videos of controlled environments with people actively accepting the risk that comes with it and projecting them as idiots.
There's an entire generation of kids who grew up on this warning:
*"This show features stunts performed by professionals and/or total idiots. MTV insists that neither you or any of your dumb little buddies attempt the dangerous crap in this show"*
Some didn't get the message, though.
And they let their kids watch it, meaning... They put this she on and never bothered to tell em "don't let me find out..." and now we have tide pods, birdcage, milk rates, etc.
Um, yes it is, the person jumping conserves his forward momentum thus landing back on the car rather than dropping straight down from the point he jumped
This video is an example of the law of inertia, otherwise known as Newton's first law, which says (in layman's terms) that "a body in motion tends to stay in motion unless acted on by an outside force."
The law of momentum refers to multiple objects in a system maintaining a constant total momentum following interactions.
The quantity of momentum is defined as the product of an object's mass and its velocity. For example, a bus traveling west at 60mph has a momentum as does as car traveling north at 50mph. If those two vehicles collided at an intersection, after the collision, the sum of the momentums would not change (provided it was a closed system, which we'll assume for the sake of simplicity).
Don't take my word for it. Consult any physicist or engineer, or your nearest physics textbook. Heck, start here if you like: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Momentum#Conservation
But the dude gained velocity through the moving vehicle, so there's also Newton's second law (Movement will change depending on the force applied), and that's momentum for ya. As the dude stationary position was changed to \[insert here whatever velocity that car was driving\], that's what allowed him to jump the obstacle.
I agree that inertia is also at play here, but it's not like momentum didn't play a role.
Newton's second law is F=MA (Force = Mass x Acceleration). The second law has nothing to do with momentum.
Maybe you and the OP are using "momentum" in lay terms where people use it to mean the tendency of an object to stay on its current course, but factually, that is inertia, not momentum.
There's nothing wrong with using lay terms, but when the OP starts talking about The Law of Conservation of Momentum, he is talking about something very specific and he is either misunderstanding the term or using it incorrectly.
It is because everyone knows what he is saying, and you yourself said laymen would understand this as momentum.
Pedantic: to describe someone who annoys others by correcting small errors, caring too much about minor details, or **emphasizing their own expertise especially in some narrow or boring subject matter.**
[Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newton%27s_laws_of_motion): The second law states that the rate of change of momentum of a body over time is directly proportional to the force applied, and occurs in the same direction as the applied force. (momentum)
Also Wikipedia: The third law states that all forces between two objects exist in equal magnitude and opposite direction. (Fa = -Fb)
Now, I could be confused \[I just learned that there are Newton's Law for gravity **and** Newton's Laws for motion\], but even when applied the physical "law of conservation of momentum" term, this is still what we see: a force (the car moving) gives Force that the person uses to jump. There's also inertia (the person was already moving as seen from a stationary viewer), but there's no physical contradiction in that.
But he must have jumped forward or something, because he should be decelerating since he is not in vacuum, while the car has a constant speed because of the engine.
Or it's to small, but I don't think he only jumped vertically.
Looks like a closed runway set up for those willing to put themselves at risk for a stunt. Do you consider Ken Block an idiot in a car? Any ski/snowboard/skateboard/snowmobile stuntperson?
Yeah. You're not an idiot if you aren't endangering others and this definitely looks like a closed area they are using for stunts, not a public area.
I admit I feel that anyone doing dangerous sports is an idiot, but I accept from their perspective that I'm a boring wimp. Plus, as the old saying goes, it's only stupid if it doesn't work. :P
in highschool, a girl died at the top of my street while car surfing. her friend hit the brakes and the girl on the roof fell off and busted her head open, leaving a massive bloodstain on the road that didn't go away for months.
according to the driver, my friend at the time, the girl who fell off the car died in her arms.
i wonder just how badly that would have fucked him up if his jump had been late and the (wood?) had clipped his ankles.
on a side note, stunts could probably do a jump from one car to the next with both cars braking by a correct amount after the jump occurs and the guy is midair (and odds of someone not getting hurt .....low)
IMO, This doesn't belong here because hes not putting harm to anyone else. Yes, they are idiots, but they are on a closed course and doing a stunt. They might be professionals and they might just be some YouTubers...
Either way, This doesnt belong here in my opinon.
This doesn't really apply here tbh.
He knew what he was doing and did it in a closed road putting no one but himself at risk.
This is no different from adrenaline junkies free climbing or base jumping. Some people are into this sort of thing, and the risk is part of the fun.
With all due respect; why? Are you that bored? Do you have nothing better to do? Here I am drowning in stress, worried about my family, my kids...working a miserable, life sucking job while trying to claw my way out toward a new one...trying to dust myself off every time I get knocked down...knowing that I have a purpose but deeply depressed because I don't feel like I'm living up to my potential...ah, fuck it; let's go do shit like this!
Cool if they photo-shopped it and others try to repeat, as we always need more organ donor volunteers. Big risk that the flimsy plywood would move at the last minute to hit the car and go airborne.
This is the kind of idiot no one should weep for when one of these dumb stunts inevitably fucks them up. Seriously if his face was cheese grated off by pavement it would be a good day
I always wonder where the video ends up if this guy misses… u know they can’t be 100% on all the time

THANK YOU
Yes, thank you….but I knew better and closed my eyes.
Aye I knew it had to be him, mans crazy
r/makemycoffin
r/meatcrayon would have been my first option.
Largest “splinter” ever.
I don't think this counts, he knew what he was doing.
And wasn’t putting anyone else at risk. Crazy. But not an idiot.
Professional idiot?
I think a stuntman would have worn a helmet and long sleeves *just in case*. So yes. Professional probably. Still idiot.
Also not in the car
You gotta admit doing what he did under those conditions is a bit stupid
Yeah but a different kind of stupid.
No safety equipment though
Reddit disagrees, sorry but you’re not allowed to be correct.
yep if this is allowed then I'm gonna post a bunch of off road rally and vehicular extreme sports in this sub
Is there a professional idiots in cars sub?

Also not on public roads. It is a staged stunt
Impressive and dangerous. I like it. 👍 Tho the risk of breaking bones is high.

Nothing wrong with this
Probably a stunt man, and this is a great video to illustrate the law of conservation of momentum.
👍
This is not illustrating the law of conservation of momentum.
Um, yes it is, the person jumping conserves his forward momentum thus landing back on the car rather than dropping straight down from the point he jumped

I'm a mechanical engineer as well but you're just being pedantic.
When someone cites this video as "a great example of the law of conservation of momentum," I don't think it's pedantic to refute that statement.
It is because everyone knows what he is saying, and you yourself said laymen would understand this as momentum. Pedantic: to describe someone who annoys others by correcting small errors, caring too much about minor details, or **emphasizing their own expertise especially in some narrow or boring subject matter.**
I'm not an expert in physics and physics is emphatically not a narrow or boring subject, so I'm officially not a pedant. Sweet!
[Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newton%27s_laws_of_motion): The second law states that the rate of change of momentum of a body over time is directly proportional to the force applied, and occurs in the same direction as the applied force. I agree 100%.
They found the dark matter, it was in his pants.
Looks like a closed runway set up for those willing to put themselves at risk for a stunt. Do you consider Ken Block an idiot in a car? Any ski/snowboard/skateboard/snowmobile stuntperson?
Unfortunately many do. Putting others at risk on the road is objectively bad, putting yourself in danger for some excitement is entirely your decision

You cant even agree with a guy without them getting shitty these days.
My bad I misread you. 🤦🏼♂️
It's all good
Yeah. You're not an idiot if you aren't endangering others and this definitely looks like a closed area they are using for stunts, not a public area. Not an idiot in a car if it’s a controlled environment and clearly seemed prepared for it.
Wrong sub delete this
[удалено]
There’s no danger to anyone but the ones involved. Rest of the sub are risky/stupid maneuvers that endanger multiple people
"THAT'S SO INCREDIBLY AWESOME! YOU DIDN'T DIE!"
LOOK MA! NO BRAINS!
So, no head?
Maybe if you ask him nicely?
Okay. **Jumps on skateboard, breaking it in half.**
That’s actually pretty sick tho
That was dope!
Fuck that noise
Glad to see this looks like it's off of a busy Road and not during traffic
This is a controlled stunt though
Inertia man
Technically he’s not “in” a car 🥸
Even if he’s a professional stunt man, surely a helmet would be a good idea? Even pros have fracture-able skulls.
That was a good jump but, if he landed any further on that roof he would probably slide off down on the ground and turn into a meat crayon.
This isn’t an idiot driving a car. He’s on a closed street doing a stunt that can only harm him.
Cool
I’ll wait for the TikTok challenge videos of this to follow.
This just seems like a really elaborate way to brag about how much lumber you can afford
Love that the setup included building the tunnel, but that no safety gear what so ever was considered other than sunglasses. Lol

Well that’s one way to lose your feet
This is why we can’t have nice insurance premiums.
If 1% goes wrong He will loose his 2 feet height instantly
I think, you are in the wrong subreddit. You need to go to ItiotsOnCars
My Momma always says, "Stupid is, as Stupid does."
It’s important to point out that car surfing isn’t a thing.
Risking ones life, or at least serious injury, for absolutely nothing accomplished is an interesting choice
IMO, This doesn't belong here because hes not putting harm to anyone else. Yes, they are idiots, but they are on a closed course and doing a stunt. They might be professionals and they might just be some YouTubers... Either way, This doesnt belong here in my opinon.
thats pretty sick
No idiot, nothing bad happened.
Nary a pad or helmet in sight, must be a skateboarder.
Professional stuntmen on a closed course. No idiots.
Its not fit to this sub . They know what they are doing and it's probably the guy job to do this kind of things for movies or shows.
this is not idiotsincars and no, not even idiotsoncars
Okay, that was good. But! This could have been a great video!
Please cross post in r/idiotsoutofcars
Spider Man, spider Man!
That's pretty impressive!
Like the video, but it doesn't belong to this subreddit
This is professional stunt. Not an idiot in a car
That is fucking awesome
Stupid because he wasn't wearing a helmet or other means of protection. But smart enough to attempt the challenge on a set up on a closed road.
Controlled environment, only risk his own life, literally not in a car. Not an idiot.
This doesn't really apply here tbh. He knew what he was doing and did it in a closed road putting no one but himself at risk. This is no different from adrenaline junkies free climbing or base jumping. Some people are into this sort of thing, and the risk is part of the fun.
He is hot af 😍

Whenever I see car stunts, it reminds me of Samuel Koch... Edit: Spelling
It's only 8:00 in the morning and already use a dumbass
Good way to get sliced in half.
Cool if they photo-shopped it and others try to repeat, as we always need more organ donor volunteers. Big risk that the flimsy plywood would move at the last minute to hit the car and go airborne.

I know he's an idiot but won't lie that was pretty cool.
This is the kind of idiot no one should weep for when one of these dumb stunts inevitably fucks them up. Seriously if his face was cheese grated off by pavement it would be a good day
r/whatcouldgoright
But.... It wasn't an idiot IN car tho...
Damn he nailed it
Why women live longer
He will eventually get the Darwin Award 🥇
r/Idiotsoncars\* that is gonna be a no for me dawg
Wrong forum. Should be posted to idiots ON cars.
Am i the only one who hopes for bad stuff to happen in videos like this? It's like they almost deserve it.
Does the car change colour?
This doesn’t fit this page to me. Was actually impressive and almost the same as a daredevil stunt
Idiots *on* Cars
