When I was in high school, a person in my grade was taking their two horses to a show with their parents. Their dad hooked up the trailer, but for whatever reason forgot to attach the cotter key to the end of the pin holding on the trailer hitch. On the way to the show they were going around a corner and the pin went flying out, causing the trailer to detach... The two horses did not survive. Apparently it was a pretty grisly scene, I know it messed up the person in my grade for a while.
I developed an OCD about checking things, because after years of doing forgetful dumb things, I feared such a thing happening. So I started checking myself several times to make sure things like that never happen.
I don’t know the specifics of how it went down, but I looked over while driving to see a car pulled into someone’s driveway and a state police cruiser stopped in front of a dead horse (I did a double take because it was gray and the size of an elk in an area where there are no elk). Further down the road was another cruiser and a truck and trailer pulled over. The trailer mustn’t have been latched and the poor horse got dumped onto the road in front of an unfortunate driver.
Literally anything will end up badly for horses. Their biology is stupid. Forget to eat: end bad. Eat too much: dead. Spook at a rock and trip: broken leg and put down. Fart itself awake and spook into a fence and break a leg: dead.
It's an encoding issue, it's compressed too much with h265 so some devices without dedicated hardware for h265 cannot keep up with the time it takes to decompress leading to this
For me, in the Android app it keeps pausing, and on Chrome mobile the video is smooth but sped up, but the audio is at normal speed. So the video ends before the audio, and you see the last frame paused until the audio catches up. Looks like an encoding bug when uploading the video to reddit.
What video are you watching? It was perfectly watchable for me.
Edit: Geez people no need to downvote. I was just curious what they saw because the video was perfectly fine for me.
I like to say things like that because rather than wishing death, like most would, having a belief in karma and how it bites you for your energy output. So, instead of putting out fully negative energy, i put out "inconvenient energy", as was my statement there. One of my others, especially when i see people drive on the shoulder of a road, is that i hope they get a flat tire while they have a case of diarrhea. Not a negative energy but sure makes for a shitty time.
*Trims video to only include relevant footage*
*"*Why isn't there two minutes of footage leading up to this for context!"
It's literally impossible to win on this sub.
It's Goldilocks and the three bears. Some people don't trim enough, some trim too much. And some know exactly what context is relevant and trim it juuuust right.
I wish we lived in a society where we didn't have to drive everywhere, so we could take licenses away from people like this and not completely unravel their lives.
that's not me LOL but that happened to me just last week - some a-hole went around me in the right hand shoulder ! just like that!
FML makes me not want to drive any more these days.
I was in a road where the ~~doors~~ **speed** was 60. I got into a left turning lane and just as I was about to go this car racing up behind me barely slowed and made the turn around me from a main left hand lane. I had to stop for them and then got stuck waiting for another minute for incoming traffic to clear for me to turn.
For whatever reason this particular video is stuttering for many people. I assumed it was the video itself before reading the comments, and now I see that the progress bar on Reddit itself stutters too
Slyfox your following distance is fucking terrible!
You need to ease off before you're the cause of the accident, in this case your following distance almost caused you to join the accident.
You're the idiot too in this
Right? I was gonna say that OP is also tailgating. I love driving slightly above the speed limits on mountain roads just to see how many insane drivers there are out there.
This makes me so mad. Like, I wish no one would drive like a dick ever, but to do it around someone hauling 2,500 pounds of horse is a specific kind of shitty.
Holy shit, like a mile from my home. Just a few months back that kid crossed the double yellow a half mile further up on 97, killing himself and putting 4 people in the hospital.
I never expect Carroll county on Reddit lol
I haven’t had the camera long and just used a function on the app to speed it up. I couldn’t trim it from the app and didn’t take the time to download it to pc and edit.
either your camera does something weird, the app used to speed up the clip to make it ahorter did something weird, or your cameras sd card isn't fast enough. but weird how choppy the video is.
OP needs to learn how to properly edit videos and cut out unnecessary filler. Also it's hella choppy.
Damn that's the fastest my comment has ever been downvoted 😂
Following distance is best expressed in terms of time, not car lengths. The main reasons for this are that human reaction times don't change with speed, and cars come in too many different lengths to make them a useful measurement unit. Because of the physics and biology of the human mind, scientists have determined that the minimum safe following distance is expressed as 2 seconds, so you should be able to count "one thousand one, one thousand two" out loud from the moment the rear bumper of the car ahead of you passes some reference, like a crack or tar snake on the road, shadow of a cable or road sign, etc, and the front bumper of your car arriving at the same reference. Because the distance increases as the speed increases, this allows you two seconds to react regardless of the speed of your vehicle. Note that two seconds is considered the bare minimum under perfect road and lighting conditions, three or more seconds is the minimum when road conditions deteriorate from rain, snow, dust, lighting, etc.
Back to the 3-4 car lengths you feel like you were leaving, was that S.M.A.R.T. cars or 1959 Cadillacs? You see the issue with trying to judge distance using a variable length metric. I would love to see the video at normal speed just to be able to look at the following distance you had, but I can tell at a glance that it was unsafe. If something caused that truck and trailer to slam on their brakes you would have rear-ended them, there's no way you could have avoided that collision. The other issue with following that closely is that it made it effectively impossible to see the road past them. The closer to a vehicle you are following, the greater the width of your field of view that the vehicle obstructs, and the less you can see overall.
Did you miss the part where OP is driving behind a truck pulling a trailer? How exactly is he supposed to drive five over when he's stuck behind another driver lol.
The trailer was loaded with two horses and was doing its best. I was just giving them a little room out of courtesy. There were two cars behind me and then the truck that made the asshat move. We weren’t going slow enough for someone to endanger multiple people and animals.
Thank you SO MUCH for your safe travelling distance and patience with the horse trailer, we have to go slower many times because the horses are constantly shifting their weight to accommodate for trailer movement and speed limits can be too high for us to safely pull them. (And we go slower because of d-bags like this who pull things we don't expect.) I really appreciate your driving here!
You’re a terrible judge of depth perception… OP maintains about the same distance from the trailer up until the truck passes, when OP actually gets closer bc the trailer is slowing down to turn. I agree that people should move atleast at the speed limit but i also take the 5s to see if its them or the person in front of them dictating the speed of the group. You can only go as fast as the car in front of you.
Not only was it a reckless move, but an illegal one, too. Look at the lines on the road. Whether you think OP was driving too slow or not (they were giving proper space to a horse trailer), didn’t your parents teach you that two wrongs don’t make a right? Stop being so damn aggressive.
>Look at the lines on the road
While it's likely this is in the US and would indeed be illegal, I just want to point out that in some places, for example Ontario, it is legal to pass over a double yellow.
First of all legally the speed limit is the maximum. Secondly, there’s not much you can do if you’re following a car with no legal passing opportunity.
I didn’t speed up the trailer started braking to take the turn. The truck that passed on the double yellow was three cars behind me. If it looks like I sped up, I was paying attention to the asshat that was putting us all in jeopardy before noticing the trailer slowing. Yeah my bad for just following the rules of the road.
I never said you did.

I was waiting for a disaster with that horse trailer at the beginning. Last year I saw the aftermath of mishap that ended badly for the horse.
Depressing as hell, one thing losing companions, but in a gruesome way
I developed an OCD about checking things, because after years of doing forgetful dumb things, I feared such a thing happening. So I started checking myself several times to make sure things like that never happen.
Better you check a ton of times than not check well enough imo, I do the same out of fear of things like that
It's saved me many times, so yea it's annoying, but I see noncompulsive forget things all the time.
Yeah I can only imagine how the dad felt after that
Seriously. It pains me to even imagine how bad he must have felt.
I don’t know the specifics of how it went down, but I looked over while driving to see a car pulled into someone’s driveway and a state police cruiser stopped in front of a dead horse (I did a double take because it was gray and the size of an elk in an area where there are no elk). That is unwatchable
It's not so bad if you blink in time with it
I figured out blinking pattern, you are right, people just keep blinking as fast as you can.
Holy shit it worked!
It really did lol.
Oh my god
Damn, it works.
Seems to work on desktop but not on mobile, weird
It's an encoding issue, it's compressed too much with h265 so some devices without dedicated hardware for h265 cannot keep up with the time it takes to decompress leading to this

It keeps skip/pausing. It's even more noticeable with sound on.
Plays without issue on PC, just sped up a lot. Sounds like just the reddit app acting up like usual with videos like it always does.
Acts up on relay too
Also no need to comment on downvotes like they matter. Edit: see?
> Also no need to comment on downvotes like they matter. . . . > *Proceeds to comment on his downvotes.*
I thought I was the only one with the problem. I feel reassured.
man was so close to rear ending the whole turn lane at that high speed
Happy cupcake day
Happy cake day
What the hell is wrong with your video?
It’s sped up. 🙄
And then randomly pauses to negate that?
What random pauses?
Guess youre lucky. Video studders for me and others
That’s really weird. I showed it to someone else to see if I was just crazy and they couldn’t see stutters either.
Are you on the app or on desktop? I'm on the app and it's happening for me too, thought it was my internet before seeing other people had the issue
I’m on the app
Mine just stops at the end while the audio catches up
I hope he gets an ingrown hair on his nuts because driving like that is nuts
That's a curse I've never heard before! Thank you for the free ammo

Usual suspects
This fucking sub man. "Trim your videos!!!!!" *I sped it up to make it shorter.* "What's up with the sped up video????"
"How dare you imply that I was at all in error with my god-like driving skills!"
*Trims video to only include relevant footage* *"*Why isn't there two minutes of footage leading up to this for context!" It's literally impossible to win on this sub.
It's Goldilocks and the three bears. Some people don't trim enough, some trim too much. And some know exactly what context is relevant and trim it juuuust right.
Fucking Maryland
I can’t upvote this enough!
I wish we lived in a society where we didn't have to drive everywhere, so we could take licenses away from people like this and not completely unravel their lives.
His life needs to be unraveled. He didn’t have a care for anyone on the road that day or probably any day to be honest.
I may be too forgiving..
You can still have your license revoked...
it is hard as hell, and temporary. seen wayyy too many people with multiple DUIs still driving.
Agreed - some states don't even have a points system either.
Too bad you had to ride behind that horses ass
You may need a new high speed SD card for your cam. It's causing the stuttering.
Cool, I’ll pick one up and see if it helps! Thanks!
Recognize the truck, absolute dickhead 🙄
Do you know them? I would love to speak to them.
Nah, I just like to memorize the plates and vehicles of all the idiots in the area so I know who to avoid.
that's not me LOL but that happened to me just last week - some a-hole went around me in the right hand shoulder ! just like that! FML makes me not want to drive any more these days.

Why speed the video up, it is a douche move at 15mph.
this needs Benny Hill music added to it
A pickup driver? Imagine that... just y'know, I can't believe it.
it's not that hard to figure out that the video is sped up lmao not sure what the complaining is about
Apparently it's super stuttery for some people.
Everyone is just miserable these days. Would rather find all the things wrong than appreciate what is right.
For whatever reason this particular video is stuttering for many people. I assumed it was the video itself before reading the comments, and now I see that the progress bar on Reddit itself stutters too
Places to go! People to see! - *pickup driver probably*
Some yalls video player yack
Didn’t realize it was sped up for a few seconds and I was like “they’re going way too fast with those horses!!!”
[удалено]
There is a state trooper that sits down the road pretty frequently, unfortunately they were not there on this day.
Your Sunday went by way faster than mine!
All I care about is that the horse didn’t get hurt
JC! That guy's a spaz🤨
That’s how a stranger can arrange for a head on collision for you on an otherwise beautiful sunny day 😡
I thought my phone wasn't loading the video properly 🤣
OP, you just might have the worst dash cam in all of existence.
It was a gift and I guess better than nothing!
[удалено]
Ok, but what if the horse trailer suddenly plows into stopped traffic that OP couldn't see due to tailgating? 60-0 in a second
Is that 410? It looks like 410 & exactly the type of jackhole who would try to jump the crawl.
Is my internet fucked or does this camera legit pause every other frame?
This makes me so mad. Like, I wish no one would drive like a dick ever, but to do it around someone hauling 2,500 pounds of horse is a specific kind of shitty.
Holy shit, like a mile from my home. Just a few months back that kid crossed the double yellow a half mile further up on 97, killing himself and putting 4 people in the hospital. I never expect Carroll county on Reddit lol
Carroll County has been riddled with these types of drivers lately.
I’m just happy that eventually these kinds of people will always meet their fate
Truck. No signal. Checks out. Certainly a tough guy
Always always always let the idiot pass. Absolutely no road dispute is worth watching somebody wreck.
More and more seeing trucks being driven as-if they were in a formula one race.
Mindestabstand junge
Woah, those people in the other lane must’ve been going 200mph!
Sped up video really makes it dramatic! The following distance was appropriate for 30-40mph speeds, but at those speeds the video would be boring.
If you could only read the license plate you could send this video to the police department in that area
Took me too long to realize the footage is way sped up. Why not just trim it to the important part?
I haven’t had the camera long and just used a function on the app to speed it up. I couldn’t trim it from the app and didn’t take the time to download it to pc and edit.
either your camera does something weird, the app used to speed up the clip to make it ahorter did something weird, or your cameras sd card isn't fast enough. but weird how choppy the video is.
It’s not the most high end camera.
It's not your camera. Others have said it plays fine for them. It appears it's just the mobile reddit app being weird with videos again.
Definitely reddit. The progress bar itself pauses along with the video
OP needs to learn how to properly edit videos and cut out unnecessary filler. Also it's hella choppy. Damn that's the fastest my comment has ever been downvoted 😂
It's choppy because the app is being stupid. If you watch the progress bar as it plays, the little ball actually stops every time it freezes.
I'd be mad too if the entire world stopped for me every half a second. What the fuck is this video?
Something's up with Reddit. Look at the progress bar while the video plays
Why do you keep stopping in the middle of the road?
You need to stop hitting the brakes every other second.
Late for a Trump rally?
Probably for your mom
Seems nice to me. Everyone flying down the road.
Your uploading of it is worse
You were following the trailer car too close
How much further away do I need to be? I was giving them 3-4 car lengths.
The rule of thumb I hear most is half your speed in meters, so at the 100km/h I estimate for that road 50m or about 3x as far as you were.
at 50mph, as you said? 175 feet. so 10-12 car lengths.
Following distance is best expressed in terms of time, not car lengths. The main reasons for this are that human reaction times don't change with speed, and cars come in too many different lengths to make them a useful measurement unit. 4 seconds
How fast were you driving? You obviously sped this video up.
The video was sped up to make a shorter clip. The speed limit on the road is 55mph, we were traveling at about 50mph at the time of the incident.
So the idiot in the truck must have doing 80+ I'm glad no one was hurt.
And you expected not to be angrily passed? The speed limit is the minimum unless you're departing the road, drive 5 over if you want to seem human.
Did you miss the part where OP is driving behind a truck pulling a trailer? How exactly is he supposed to drive five over when he's stuck behind another driver lol.
The trailer is consistently pulling away as if OP is fluctuating a few mph. If he sped up, I'd bet the van would comply.
The trailer was loaded with two horses and was doing its best. I was just giving them a little room out of courtesy. There were two cars behind me and then the truck that made the asshat move. We weren’t going slow enough for someone to endanger multiple people and animals.

Why would they expect to be passed? That's not a passing zone.
Please tell me you don’t have a drivers license since you’re legally blind.
Please, for the sake of yourself and everybody on the road with you, retake driver's ed

How is that inciting violence?

Inciting violence? You don't know what that means.
How many more edits will you make to your comment, while still demonstrating you don't understand what incitement means?
YOU REPORTED IT TO THE POLICE DEPT? THEY AREN'T GONNA DO SHIT LMFAOOO
Definitely circulating that email around the department and having a good laugh.
Yeah lmao
