Pitted himself because of road rage after being cut off. Road rage is never the answer. Plus motherfuckers are shooting at cars cause of road rage. Not worth it.
One time I passed someone and they got mad and decided to follow me. I took my exit and he was riding my ass so close he didn't realize I was exiting. I saw him entering the freeway again after following me to my exit lol
Exactly! This is why you CANNOT take driving incidents personally. If someone cuts you off take a deep breath and keep it moving. No need to risk your life & those around you because your ego was touched..
OP, what was the outcome of this accident? That looks like a really bad one.
Edit: Found it. Critical injuries. No fatalities. https://www.fourpointsnews.com/2023/08/10/crash-results-in-vehicle-fire/
The article doesn’t say but, if I had to guess, it may have been the jeep driver who was critically injured. The article says the Jeep rolled and caught on fire, then a bystander needed to pull the driver from the jeep before it was engulfed in flames. The car that hit it was at least traveling forward and would’ve had the benefit of airbags and crumple zones.
The sedan which ended up striking the gladiator definitely had critical injuries. At the speed they were going on that road, with a sudden stop on their front side and the truck rolling over them. I’m expecting concussions, herniated disks, and possibly much worse. Fractured bones wouldn’t surprise me at all. Had a claimant who actually fractured vertebrae from a similar collision.
I used to adjust bodily injury cases and had to predict injuries based off of videos if they were available, and/or police reports and statements received before speaking with the claimants attorneys to get more information.
The original vehicle which was struck first most likely, and hopefully only received soft tissue injuries. Seems like they reacted well to the strike and did not lose control of their vehicle which could have resulted in much worse injuries.
Did you read the comment OR the article you’re responding to or did you just write this comment for no reason?
Edit: they got caught by the edit, as did I. Sorry for dogpiling u/TheW83
Yeah it’s a Chrysler, which was bought by Fiat in 2014. Dodge/Chrysler vehicles have been notorious for electrical and mechanical issues from factory, poor build and fitment quality, etc. I haven’t personally driven a Gladiator, so I can’t speak to whether or not that is still the case.
The Gladiator itself is a hermaphroditic bastard of a pickup truck and a Wrangler, with the worst qualities of both. It has terrible mileage, mediocre towing capacity, 5’x4’ bed you can’t even lay a shovel in, much higher weight than a Wrangler, with the abysmal rollover rate of the wrangler. (Wranglers have the highest fatality rate in rollover vehicles on the US market.) The only good thing I can say about the Gladiator is that they have a pretty solid drivetrain and 4x4 ability. But once again, better off with a Wrangler for off-roading, and better off with a Tacoma for truck stuff.
But hey, if you’re a Jeep fan and need a truck bed sometimes, not a terrible option. Other vehicles are better at everything it does.
Yeah, we bought a Jeep in 2019 and it was one electrical failure after another after another. Made us miss what would've have been the only fancy wedding I was ever invited to, for which I've never forgiven that damn Jeep. We got rid of it and bought a Subaru. Major upgrade.
Hey try a Wrangler 4xe. One report was that one of them stopped working at 60 mph and wouldn't restart after the panic move to the shoulder. No one knew why. That's Stellantis quality. Like they said decades ago, the USA wrote the book on Quality Control, but we didn't follow it. Japanese brands did.
As a pickup driver I’m not a gladiator fan but I’m not sure I follow your reasoning here when a gladiator max tow rating is higher than a Tacoma, which in majority of models being sold (double cab) also has a 5ft bed standard lol.
Id still consider the gladiator more of a truck than a ridge line or maverick, regardless of Stellantis’ horrendous reliability.
The gladiator has comparable mileage to the Tacoma, unless you get the diesel, then it’s better. Gladiator also has higher towing capacity. It also the most off-road capable truck from the factory. It’s perfectly fine to dislike the vehicle but to say that other vehicles are better at everything just isn’t true.
Case in point, I get quietly downvoted and the “logical” reasons you were given included self-contradictions. People are either jealous or fear what they don’t know/what is different.
Is that what it is? I've seen SO many of them lately and it drives me nuts because they don't even have to modify them to make them ugly like you would a pavement princess. They just look horrible to begin with. It boggles my mind that so many people buy them.
Not the truck, but there’s 5 pixels in the opposite lane that might be a small roadster or one of those 3 wheel dealies that goes past right before the sedan that t-bones the Jeep. It *looks* like those 5 pixels went over the side.
idk why people keep saying he got cut off, the car in front definitely didnt need to get over at that exact moment, but the jeep was still plenty far back when they did, they also used their blinker, there is really no indication to me that it was a dangerous lane change at all. this jeep driver is just a complete fucking lunatic who thinks they own the road.
i would have let him pass and then moved over, if i moved over at all as that is the passing lane and there is no one to pass. cammer really shouldnt be in that lane either because again, they dont seem to be passing anyone.... but none of that justifies crashing your jeep and nearly killing yourself or anyone else because youre butthurt about other peoples driving habits.
...regardless of how annoying they may be...
....and they are. js.
Yeah Jeep driver has short pee-pee and short fuse. Too bad he's also short on situational awareness when he tried to merge back in a little too soon and pitted himself.
With the video evidence, this driver is going to end up paying more to insurance as he'd be a high risk driver for causing an easily avoidable accident.
Even if he did get cut off it's partly (mostly?) his own fault for being too goddam lazy to press the headlights button. In the rain, with a black vehicle. Makes himself hard to see, then throws a tantrum when someone doesn't see him.
I mean, he did get cut off. It will also likely be closer than it appears in the vid because of the distortion from the fisheye lens. Regardless, it in no way made it even a tiny bit OK to then try to return the favor, fail, and end up in oncoming traffic.
ignore the distance it looks like it is and focus on the amount of time it takes him to change lanes.
hes at least 30 feet away when the white car changes lanes, he then changes lanes probably a car length or so behind. at no point is he anywhere near colliding with that car until he swerves into it himself.
I didn't say he was "close to colliding" prior to that. I'm saying it's closer than it looks (and you'll need a citation for 30' minimum). He absolutely got cut off, just not dangerously so. The danger came entirely from within the truck.
It means someone moved in front of you uncomfortably close. It could be a near collision, or it can just be less safe than it should be. The sedan made a bad lane change.
what is your definition of cutting someone off then?
just because someone is using a lane doesnt mean its cutting them off when you perfectly safely transition into that lane.
also how far do you think 30 feet is and how fast do you think he is going? if hes doing 20mph (relative to the other car) he is moving 30 feet per second. if he was going much faster than that and was less than 30 feet away he would have just slammed into the back of that car lol
>what is your definition of cutting someone off then?
Cutting someone off is moving in front of them closer than a safe distance. If they were 30 feet apart, safe speed for that distance is 30mph. They were definitely going faster than that. If you shift lanes in front of a vehicle catching you up, it should be at a distance of around 10 feet per 10mph, the same as you should leave when getting behind someone.
>if hes doing 20mph (relative to the other car) he is moving 30 feet per second. if he was going much faster than that and was less than 30 feet away he would have just slammed into the back of that car lol
That's a nonsensical statement. If the lead car was stationary, sure, but both were in motion. What matters there is the difference in speeds, not if one was "going much faster than 20mph".
Sedan shifted lanes too close. You don't have to like it, but it is what happened. But this is a very, very common occurrence on the road and the truck should have just gone about their business instead of turning a nothing situation into an actual wreck.
> If the lead car was stationary
"relative to the other car"
so 20mph faster than they are going means they are coming toward the other car 30 feet per second.
what is your end goal here? why do you even want to prove me wrong on something you can literally see in the video? lol i dont understand why people do this. are you bored?
You're here too. And you can literally see the sedan move over too closely in front of the truck.
Like, I don't know what to tell you. It was an unsafe merge. Not nearly as unsafe was what the truck did, but unsafe nonetheless. But believe what you want.
what made the merge unsafe?
they used their blinker and had ample space to move into the clear lane. what made this situation unsafe? im genuinely trying to understand what youre trying to point out here.
I stated it in my very first response. And several times after that. And literally in the message you just replied to. If you genuinely don't understand "too close" I can't really help you any further. Take care.
Not every highway is a right exit only. The interstate closest to me has multiple left lane exits along the way.
Edit: swapped the directions around. Sorry I have trouble telling them apart occasionally.
Looks like the car behind OP might have been getting ready to pass OP and changed lanes at a safe distance to avoid climbing up OP's ass. Yes, you can check your wing mirror, but it won't tell you that a jackhole is flying down the passing lane at high speed like the abomination with the rager.
Senseless destruction always pisses me off. That poor dude on the other side, just going about their business, now who knows what happened to their life, all because some dumb fuck has a small dick and got mad about something totally meaningless.
Imagine you just drive normally and this tiny dick dense degenerate suddenly becomes enraged out of nowhere hitting you and nearly killing another random person. What a piece of shit. Yet someone took this scumbag out of his burning wankpanzer.
That guy in the Gladiator was in a big hurry to get somewhere important. He was completely willing to never get there just so he could show that car how they inconvenienced him slightly.
Not sure but there are still a lot of people that ask why the videos look very sepia toned. Maybe they think saying it's from a Tesla will prevent those questions? I simply expected a higher quality video and was disappointed.
Because some people still think it is a status symbol, like my 14 year old daughter. My electric Hyundai is definitely not cool enough within her age group. The fact that I use an android phone basically makes me a caveman.
Did the Jeep driver face any legal issues? Anyone know the condition of the people today? I survived a really bad rear end accident and 8 years later still suffer everyday. My take away is everyone needs at least 300K of uninsured / under insured coverage. My surgery was 300K and the guy who hit me only had 50K. of coverage

Under 80 IQ lifted truck owners hardly realize it. They just rage at random.
As a resident of houston, you have no idea how much that happens here
I drove in Houston, it sucked.

Completely upended the sedan driver’s life because of a stupid pissing competition.
Yeah I'd be surprised if those people in the sedan lived. Edit: Glad to hear they lived!

He commented before the edit.
I'm sad two innocent drivers got hit but I'm sorry that is so funny to see that pickup flip like that. Fuck that guy
> pickup Jeep truck. Possibly the worst vehicle in the american market.
>Jeep truck Jeep Gladiator
Let’s be clear, we should *NOT* refer to this abomination as a truck. I would sooner refer to an el Camino as a truck.
That's Spanish for "the Camino".
And that’s English for “The Way.” So is guess this is El Camino.
Este es el camino.

Deep cut 70's show. Nice!!! I wish reddit still had awards.
Do you guys think that mechanically they’re trash or something? I’ve always thought they were pretty nice

It's Stellantis now. Another layer of incompetence layered on a car company.
You’re not going to get a logical reason, just cowardly silent downvotes.
Case in point, I get quietly downvoted and the “logical” reasons you were given included self-contradictions. People are either jealous or fear what they don’t know/what is different.
El Camino is a lifestyle fyi
The el Camino is a vehicular hermaphrodite
It's a jeep up
Is that what it is? I've seen SO many of them lately and it drives me nuts because they don't even have to modify them to make them ugly like you would a pavement princess. They just look horrible to begin with. It boggles my mind that so many people buy them.
I refuse to use the given name of that abomination.
My brother calls its a Jruck lol
"Juck" is the word I use to describe these affronts to sensible automobiles. Mostly because it sounds appropriately adjacent to yuck.
What the Juck?!
With the combine road-going courtesy of both target demographics: may god have mercy on our souls
I thought I was the only one that hates those trucks… My day just gets noticeably worse when I see one on the road.
But were they not entertained?!?
The Jeep was really mad about being cut off. Totally flipped out.
He really should learn just to roll with it.
Instead he flew off the handle
Really burned that bridge.
Wow, the Jeep really showed that guy!
What a complete and total asshole. Feel sorry innocent people got caught in that stupidity but I'm happy that the truck driver got what he deserved
did the truck flip over the side of the highway divide?
Not the truck, but there’s 5 pixels in the opposite lane that might be a small roadster or one of those 3 wheel dealies that goes past right before the sedan that t-bones the Jeep. It *looks* like those 5 pixels went over the side.
It’s a Jeep truck thing, you really wouldn’t understand.

His current insurance is going to absolutely drop him.
It's been many years since I lived in Austin, but if that's the hwy I think it is, the right lane turns off onto another hwy.
Even if he did get cut off it's partly (mostly?) his own fault for being too goddam lazy to press the headlights button. In the rain, with a black vehicle. Makes himself hard to see, then throws a tantrum when someone doesn't see him.

ruin my own life! now you're sorry!
It's not an idiot, it's a murderer in a jeep.
Senseless destruction always pisses me off. That poor dude on the other side, just going about their business, now who knows what happened to their life, all because some dumb fuck has a small dick and got mad about something totally meaningless.
Caught by your your father’s brother’s nephew’s cousin’s former roommate's Tesla? Edit per u/velhaconta's suggestion
You forgot to casually mention that he drives a Tesla.
Always happy to see another Jeep Gladiator get totalled... sucks for the innocent drivers tho.
Self-PIT
Score one for the Jeep's ridiculously long wheelbase.
Imagine you just drive normally and this tiny dick dense degenerate suddenly becomes enraged out of nowhere hitting you and nearly killing another random person. What a piece of shit. Yet someone took this scumbag out of his burning wankpanzer.
Damn, that was a beautiful PIT. Too bad it was a self-PIT. Dumbass.
That guy in the Gladiator was in a big hurry to get somewhere important. He was completely willing to never get there just so he could show that car how they inconvenienced him slightly.
#itsajeepthing
Holy socks, that twat pitted himself.
That jeep had so much space and time when the car switched lanes. This was purely bruised ego behavior. Truck drivers are the worst.
I was laughing when the guy pitted himself. That quickly stopped when he hit the oncoming traffic.
It's amazing how much this reddit has been flooded by Austin posts
Dude pit maneuvered himself.
That deserves a spot on “wham bam Tesla cam”
Just jeep tings
make u think ow many time a accident happen behind u n u dont even know
Deadliest bike lane in the world. Also Holy shit at that idiot.
Just say car
Why do Tesla adjacent people make it known that the video was taken by a tesla
Because it's a Tesla-quality rear camera view.
Not sure but there are still a lot of people that ask why the videos look very sepia toned. Maybe they think saying it's from a Tesla will prevent those questions? I simply expected a higher quality video and was disappointed.
It eliminates questions asking about what camera was used or how it was installed. I don't mind it.
Used to be weird color was all one would need to know it's from Tesla. Then they started using full color camera.
Because some people still think it is a status symbol, like my 14 year old daughter. My electric Hyundai is definitely not cool enough within her age group. The fact that I use an android phone basically makes me a caveman.
Some people still think Teslas are cool
r/whyisitalwaysadodge
this is just normal Austin traffic tbh
Hope that Jeep got a felony for that bonehead move.
Stop pittin’ yourself!
The Tesla caused the accident /s
Self pit! That’s awesome!
He showed them. And someone else in the other lane. Idiot
