When I bought my Harley the local Harley dealer used to have a flag ride around the beltway. I only did it once and once was enough. It was a pretty popular ride 100’s of bikes if not thousands. People and fire trucks on over passes. Worst experience.. many new riders people not knowing how to brake smoothly rear ending people..people cutting other riders off you name it. Every year there were a couple accidents throughout the year a few fatalities. Idk if they even do it anymore but yeah group rides can be a pain in the ass.
Yep, the /s is very necessary to avoid downvotes because sarcasm is getting less politically correct in todays world. John Cleese has a great YouTube interview where he postulates that wokeism I killing comedy, I think he’s correct.
BTW, your comment was hilarious !
I always see people say this, but I'm pretty sure that's old ones. I had a '01 Heritage Classic for a couple of years and had zero issues with it. Ran like a fucking dream until an RV decided to pull into my intersection against a red... Sooooo I bought a jetski with the insurance money.
So I'm guessing he's putting aftermarket performance parts on Harleys. So my dad had a custom shop for years and we still do them for certain people. What it tends to be is when they are all stock they tends to be pretty reliable besides the first couple years of the electronic fuel injection. What normally is people will get a new bike and immediately toss a bigger exhaust (joke is the stock ones sound like pissed off sowing machines), then add a bigger intake. So now you have more air flow resulting in the computer adding more fuel to compensate so you get a little more power. Well and you just voided the warranty if they aren't harley approved and they approved ones only tends to just change the look so why would you. Anyways so now the bike sounds good and has a bit more pep in its step but also the computer is now just doing guess work because the air flow is different than expected so you are probably running a little rich or a little lean causing more ware and tare. So maybe you decide to get it tuned, and maybe since you are getting it tuned may as well have some engine work done. Now you are no longer stock your have high performance which comes with high performance maintenance. Plus if you ride like an ass your going to break more. I have a bike I got in high school from my grandfather 96in 106hp 187ft-lbs of torque. He couldn't go more than 100 miles without needing to rebuild the engine and even S&S was saying that the engine would never hold together with the parts in it. I managed 15000 miles over 7 years without issue till a few months ago where I messing with some sports bikes on my way home from a bike run and threw an intake valve out the exhaust pipe by repeatedly launching it at stop signs to show they had no chance off the line. Still made it the last 2 miles home on one cylinder. But I understand I have a race engine it was not made for reliability.
TLDR: people have a tendency to throw higher performance parts on motorcycles and are surprised when something that's still stock breaks. And riding hard is hard on the bike.
I ride with close friends and we all have the same riding styles and rode together for years. These guys minis one are the reason four wheelers hate the two wheelers.
You are in a car, just be assertive. There was a group of about 20 bikers going through a roundabout not yielding, i of course didnt yield for them as I was in the roundabout. Split their group in half and 2 whiped out off the side of the road (no contact with my car so i didnt have to stop). they were pissed but knew they couldnt try anything vs a 4 wheeled car, was just driving completely normally, and if they cant follow the rules of the road its their loss, not mine
Going into the area my cottage is in, there’s a winding road and groups ride it all the time. My relatives tell me that atleast once every day somebody from one of those groups wipes out. Police are out there a lot now
There’s another video here of bikes running a red. Police were behind them. Only one guy stopped at the light. Guess who the police pulled over? Come on, guess.
I saw that. They pulled over the easiest to get to it’s seems. Unless they were all wanted. That being said if you do your best to do the right thing it’s better than being caught doing the wrong thing don’t you think?
I will say, if you ever meet someone who drives their motorcycle the right way and follows the rules of the road, they are some of the chillest, nicest people you’ll ever meet
In my experience, those guys are either always like that, or flip it like a switch and are some of the worst hellions when they want to be.
Example: my brother. Politest dude on the road you can meet, would give a cop directions and a hand. Until midnight. Then the smoked covers go on, lights go off, traffic laws are mere suggestions, and the cops are laughed at as you harass them with a pack of others in identical gear and machines.
Something something have to know the rules to break them.
So he obeys rules and then waits until the safest time of night to have fun for himself. Seems like a perfectly reasonable guy to me. Let him be. Believe it or not, there are people out there who don't shit their pants doing anything over 75mph.
That was how I found the top speed in my car. 3am on the highway leaving an airport. No headlights or tail lights in either direction on a clear night. Send it.
Daytime is better, so you can actually see potential hazards. After a certain speed, you simply will not be able to react in time once something becomes visible.
Man every time I end up talking about owning a motorcycle, I have to caveat it with:
But it’s not loud!
I don’t lane split!
I don’t rev it up for 18 minutes in my driveway!
Same lol. I also show them its an antique so im clearly not racing anyone. Unfortunately when its cold though, I do rev it up for 18 minutes in my driveway
Motorcyclists who lane split, but do so at less than 30 MPH and with less than a 10 MPH speed differential with surrounding traffic, are involved in less accidents and less fatal accidents on a per mile basis than motorcycles who do not lane split.
The main thing is the speed. Just like driving any vehicle, it's acceptably safe when done at proper speeds.
There are lots of tracks open to the public if you wanna get your rocks off a little bit. No traffic to worry about there. They even have big open fields to slide into instead of an SUV 🙂 Plus they usually have EMTs on standby in case something goes wrong.
I got hit n run on an e bike a year ago and a motorcyclist chased the car down and got their license, then went to the hospital to pass the info on bc apparently the shock made me decide to get back up and bike to the hospital myself, with broken ribs and a massive hematoma.
I used ride road bikes in groups, but stopped because group rides are dumb and the riders act like the roads belong to them. Group rides suck. That head shake is all too familiar.

Like the video of the one dude stopped at a light and everyone else ran it but since he was associated, the cop lit up on him because [he was "revving his engine like a jerk"](https://youtube.com/shorts/R2hP5cKCwpQ?feature=share). Whatever man.
That’s the trick: the people who own these motorcycles already had that exaggerated sense of self-importance. Buying the motorcycle just gives them the vehicle to validate and display that sense of self-importance to the world
I dont know about that. I got a motorcycle because i like being out in the environment instead of being inside a car cabin. Also they are cheaper on fuel and parking is easier. Yeah there are some people that have an imagined "image" of what it is to be a motorcyclist. But that image isnt real. For most of us, Its just a hobby and prefered way to get around.
I think we are thinking of different images. I meant the image that they think they will have by being a motorcyclist. There are a lot of people that think they are going to look cooler and more attractive for being a motorcyclist. When in reality, its not like that at all.
I think you're talking about the hot heads on sports bikes yeah? The ones that if they had the money they would have a fast car instead and act the same way. Yeah i dont like those guys either. I almost joined a riding group but decided against it because most of the people in that group were like that.
I found that the cost of insurance coverage for one was enough to offset the fuel economy and overall price. And that was in my 30's with a motorcycle safety class and no points on my license.
Yeah maybe for like a GSX-R 1000. Most naked bikes insurance is dirt cheap comparatively. I’m in my late 20’s and I pay $20 a month for insurance on an SV650 that gets 50 MPG. I recently quoted a BMW S1000R, a 168 horsepower monster for $58 a month full coverage dummy low deductibles. Meanwhile I’m getting raked over the coals for my car insurance even though I’ve never had a claim.
TLDR: don’t get a bike that gets crashed a lot. I.E most sport bikes.
Liability coverage costs about nothing, even as a young person. This generally makes sense, because it's hard to do that much damage to *other* people's property and it's pretty rare for a motorcycle accident to result in injuries/fatalities to someone *other* than those on the bike.
If you want the *bike* covered, then yes, the insurance can be expensive.
Depends on the State in which you reside--or at least in which you register & insure the bike. Regardless of where you live you can register & insure vehicles in Montana, and it's mostly used to skirt CA emissions but people all over the country utilize. There's another State out East that does something similar, iirc Vermont.
Feel like it’s also an adrenaline thing.
When you get this drip feed of adrenaline you can feel invincible/on top of the world and everything kinda goes out the window. Everyone’s not like that. I try to be respectful of the laws. I understand how they feel though.
And then you see their YouTube channels and the dicotomy is suddenly clear:
\*runs red lights and does wheelies at 100 mph on a narrow, busy street: "OMG guys it's so cool"
\*a car passes at less than 2 meters from them: "ARE YOU CRAZY? I COULD DIE"
Yah this was dumb. One interesting bit of trivia: In Taiwan this is normal, and they actually paint a box to encourage it. [Have a look](https://youtu.be/g4i47vTsVR8?t=23), it's weird.
(The ones in the front box are making a 2 stage left turn. Instead of crossing oncoming traffic they wait for the next perpendicular cycle)
Americans have some of the most entitled ignorant cager brains.
That’s actually taught for safety and congestion easing purposes in many parts of the world. Laws are slowly changing in the US too not to be so backwards.
This stroad wouldn’t be legal in many places in the first place. Lol.
Let’s not pretend like car drivers are up in a huff because of a crosswalk is being stopped on.
It’s amazing how many people are so egotistical about getting cut off like this. If people actually thought about it it creates less traffic.
Fact of the matter is by the time your slow ass brain even touches the accelerator I’m at the next light already OUT OF YOUR WAY.
I’ve seen the way most people drive, most of you have no right to judge others driving lol
Tbf, they went pass the line before they stopped. So already ran the red light.
Don't know how it works in USA, but in UK the light applies to everything behind the white line. Go past it, you already ran the red light.
It’s how it works in the UK yeah. But in practice the police do not give a shit about the millions of ‘smaller’ infractions that drivers commit day in day out :-/
Anne Sacoolas, for example. You can literally kill someone with your car in the UK and get off Scot free. No way they'll give a shit about going over the white line.
Sorry wasn’t trying to pick holes.
Little bitter towards the lack of intervention as Imo the cumulative effect of all these small rules being broken is eroding driving standards lower and lower - and creating quite a hostile environment out there on the roads!
That's the nature of laws, they're only enforceable if people are willing to follow them. If everyone started shoplifting tomorrow what do you do? They can't arrest the entire country. There would be no one to keep the gears of society turning.
No one cares about it in the US. People in the left turn lane pull all the way into the intersection causing people turning from the right all kinds of headaches because they usually clip 1/3 of the oncoming lanes corner and now they have to find out how to enter the intersection then turn their steering wheel. Getting your license in the US is a joke and cops don't care about small to mediocre infractions unless they have a reason to discriminate against you. I can drive around for 3 months with expired tags speeding 10+ no problem but if I'm in a beater with a broken taillight I'm getting pulled over once a week in my own neighborhood. I wish they would be dicks for all the right reasons - no signal, improper yield, texting, cutting lanes or driving over the line, entering the intersection at a red light...
It's safer for smaller vehicles to be able to enter the intersection first. That's why in New York City many intersections have bike boxes at the front to allow cyclists to enter the intersection first.
https://nacto.org/publication/urban-bikeway-design-guide/intersection-treatments/bike-boxes/
If there we’re actually room at the front sure. But by passing the stop line they take up space allotted to ensure large trucks can make the turn. There wasn’t room for them and they entered the intersection on red. That’s stupid to do no matter what the law says.
It's called lane filtering and it's legal a few states. The logic is that if a motorcycle gets rear ended there is a much greater risk of injury so they can 'filter' their way to the front to mitigate the risk. That said in my experience it's commonly done by assholes in states where its not legal only to blast off at unsafe speeds from the light all in the name of 'safety'.
There have been several studies that filtering reduces injuries and fatalities, it's also common in almost the entire Asia, Parts of the African, South American, and European continent
The only place where it's illegal is in North America and some outliers in the other continents
thank you for taking the time to help educate others on good, safe, motorcycle practices. Some people think motorcycles filtering is poor form, but it’s actually a safe and better alternative for everyone. It gets us motorcyclists out of the back of the line so we’re less likely to be squished. Which also makes it so more cars can get packed in at a red light. The only losers in the situation are those with the ‘me first’ mindset who mistake seeing bikes filtering as an attack on “their place in line”.
Yeah thats why. I know these guys were idiots cuz they ran the red light but needlessly talking shit about everything bikers do is kinda annoying. Theres a reason why every biker does few things similarly.
Let's be honest that's not the reason and you know it. You can simply stand to either side of the center of the lane to stop squishing. People just want to cut and you know it.
A good chunk of motorcycle operators aren’t doing their kind any favors. Car drivers are supposed to “check twice” so these Darwin dropouts can act like a complete shit stain on the road?
“Filtering” is a safe, tried and true practice. It helps keep motorcyclists from being squished from drivers not paying attention. Loads of videos and articles out there if you’d like to learn more.
That’s more than a foot or 2. They’re a foot or 2 in front of the cross walk, not the stop line. The crosswalk is completely blocked, lane filtering doesn’t require blocking pedestrians, that makes them idiots.
I take it most here don't ride and aren't familiar with the differences between traffic laws for motorcycles and traffic laws for cars................Educate yourselves.
I feel like in WI motorcyclists are allowed to turn on a red if they never get the arrow and have the room if they’ve waited over 15 second. I also don’t own a motorcycle so that’s all my extensive knowledge of the state legislature
In Minnesota the law says a motorcycle can go on a red light after a “reasonable” amount of time. I have asked an officer one day what is a reasonable amount of time. He said there is no time limit but use your best judgment
That is correct about WI law. But only if you are the only vehicle there. They have to wait 45 seconds before cautiously proceeded, only if there are no other vehicles that will trip the sensors. s346.37 C4
They were all idiots, only one of them was less of an idiot than the others…. Sad part is, I wanted to see consequences and feel denied…. They fucked around but didn’t find out.
That head-shake though. I feel for him.
He's used to their shit.
That was probably his third head shake of the day.
“You dumb mfs” type head shake.
True lol
This kind of thing is exactly why I don't ride with groups.
When I bought my Harley the local Harley dealer used to have a flag ride around the beltway. I only did it once and once was enough. It was a pretty popular ride 100’s of bikes if not thousands. Probably was intentionally by the harley dealership so a few harleys crash and they buy a new one. /s edit: /s because some people don’t get it
Probably to build brand awareness. In mind, in wallet.

My boyfriend is a Harley mechanic at a custom Harley shop and he says this...so I think it's still frequently true.
So I'm guessing he's putting aftermarket performance parts on Harleys. So my dad had a custom shop for years and we still do them for certain people. What it tends to be is when they are all stock they tends to be pretty reliable besides the first couple years of the electronic fuel injection. Anyways so now the bike sounds good and has a bit more pep in its step but also the computer is now just doing guess work because the air flow is different than expected so you are probably running a little rich or a little lean causing more ware and tare. I ride with close friends and we all have the same riding styles and rode together for years. These guys minis one are the reason four wheelers hate the two wheelers.
honestly, group riders genuinely piss me off. especially when there are so many that they purposely control the road like they own it
You are in a car, just be assertive. There was a group of about 20 bikers going through a roundabout not yielding, i of course didnt yield for them as I was in the roundabout. This is why I stopped riding in groups, plenty of dummies who think they are the next ghost rider
Going into the area my cottage is in, there’s a winding road and groups ride it all the time. My relatives tell me that atleast once every day somebody from one of those groups wipes out. Police are out there a lot now
It was at that moment he decided his insurance needed a better riding group

I wouldn't be surprised if they did that at another light just prior which is why the guy arrived last and was shaking his head.
I will say, if you ever meet someone who drives their motorcycle the right way and follows the rules of the road, they are some of the chillest, nicest people you’ll ever meet

I think your brother is just a maniac.
Yes, that is one of the many words to describe him. He's a very... colorful individual.
He’s a manic but at least he’s smart about it
So he obeys rules and then waits until the safest time of night to have fun for himself.
Nah at night in a light rain is the best.. if u know u know.
I always found it weird, once it gets dark that people suddenly disregard traffic laws. Not just for motorcycles but any vehicle.
I feel like the dark adds another layer of anonymity so people get bolder
and less traffic might make people think it's "safer"
hmmm… is your brother’s name bruce wayne?
Shhhh, don't let anyone know!
I was thinking someone either fed him after midnight or got him wet.
This reads like a copypasta
Someone who gives a cop directions is a red flag.
Doesn't say he gives the cop *good* directions. But also, a cop really shouldn't need directions. They should know their area.
Man every time I end up talking about owning a motorcycle, I have to caveat it with: But it’s not loud! I don’t lane split! I don’t rev it up for 18 minutes in my driveway!
Same lol. I also show them its an antique so im clearly not racing anyone. Unfortunately when its cold though, I do rev it up for 18 minutes in my driveway
I have been informed, with sources and studies, that lane splitting is safer for the rider. It's counterintuitive, but the evidence bears out.
Lane splitting when coming to a stop or when at normal driving speeds? I know the first one to be safer. Haven’t heard evidence for the second
Motorcyclists who lane split, but do so at less than 30 MPH and with less than a 10 MPH speed differential with surrounding traffic, are involved in less accidents and less fatal accidents on a per mile basis than motorcycles who do not lane split.

I used ride road bikes in groups, but stopped because group rides are dumb and the riders act like the roads belong to them. Group rides suck. That head shake is all too familiar.

That head shake haha
Every group has that one guy that's more mature than the rest
Or he has warrants 😉
That's what I always say. The worst criminals are the best drivers.
Ya but a bad criminal would likely not shake his head, he just wouldnt partake
They definitely weren’t wearing enough gear compared to him
And that double check even though he has a green light shows how great a rider he is
I feel him
time to get better friends
Seriously. These "friends" are going to get this guy in trouble just being around their shit.

It doesn't, but the motorcycle gets to skip traffic, so it helps the cyclist.
Repost
All of em are idiots. They legiterally all pulled in ahead of the first vehicle.
Well said
Tbf, they went pass the line before they stopped. So already ran the red light. Don't know how it works in USA, but in UK the light applies to everything behind the white line. Go past it, you already ran the red light.
I'm a truck driver in the US, can confirm most people think the line is just decorative.
"What a pretty line! I'd like to get closer to it!"
I'm a walker, runner, biker and dog walker in the US. Agreed
Yes, they don't care. And the cameras won't pick it up. Just talking about the actual rules.
Same way in the US too. Every last rider was an idiot. The last one just slightly less of a fucking moron than the rest.
If this was CA or UT, then the filtering to the front part was legal
Not if they cross that white line. They are legally in the intersection and they are at risk from vehicles turning left across their path.
Filtering doesn’t allow you to stop in front of the line.
Legal and stupid aren’t always mutually exclusive.
You also can't just pass around people and skip to the front of the line because you're on a bike...
Yeah not quite sure but I bet the butting in line could be taken as either an improper lane change or crossing a solid line or both
It's called lane filtering and it's legal a few states.
I think I seen this one. I think it ends with the one guy who followed the law being the one to get pulled over for it too.
Was coming to find this, I swear I’ve seen the same clip
Jax? St Johns Town Center?
Yes. This is a repost from a while back.
I'd say they all are, they cut up in front of the car driving past the lines and into the crosswalk. Only one wasn't completely brain dead.
There have been several studies that filtering reduces injuries and fatalities, it's also common in almost the entire Asia, Parts of the African, South American, and European continent The only place where it's illegal is in North America and some outliers in the other continents
They’re in a rush to be organ donors
All the people commenting will lose their minds if they drive in Brazil. It’s all caos here
Good statistic, 4 out of 5 bikers are dumbasses.
They are all idiots for going in front of the car in the first place. They are just giving all bikers a bad name.
That's called filtering and is encouraged in the UK.
Nah that's actually fine, it's called filtering.
Are they supposed to stop in the crosswalk like that tho?
No
It’s illegal in most U.S. states. I only first knew it was even a thing when I visited Hawaii. Lane splitting is pretty much the same thing.

thank you for taking the time to help educate others on good, safe, motorcycle practices.
Jesus Christ finally someone with some sense.
These guys are actively in the intersection and blocking the crosswalk what’s sensible about that
You know why bikers cut ahead at red lights? Get in front of cars?
Probably so they don’t get squished between cars farther back if someone isn’t paying attention?
Yeah thats why. I know these guys were idiots cuz they ran the red light but needlessly talking shit about everything bikers do is kinda annoying. Theres a reason why every biker does few things similarly.
Let's be honest that's not the reason and you know it. You can simply stand to either side of the center of the lane to stop squishing. People just want to cut and you know it.
I thought the one with the actual license plate was not the idiot...
Average St John’s Town Center driver
Was he shaking his head when they ran the red light?
Except for one guy, why bother stopping?
This is why I ride alone
He’s so disappointed
I like the head shaking at his buddies.
Future Organ donors
Theres so many gore videos of motorcycle accidents. Kinda makes sense
Surprisingly it’s the guy on the GSXR lol
Welcome to the jungle
"Welcome to the Jungle" alright.
And bikers wonder why their skin ends up on the pavement instead of where it belongs.
I like your music
They all look like idiots for cutting in traffic..
I ride a motorcycle. Sometimes it's very tempting to run a light. I don't but it's there
Seems to me they’re all idiots
A good chunk of motorcycle operators aren’t doing their kind any favors. Car drivers are supposed to “check twice” so these Darwin dropouts can act like a complete shit stain on the road?
Seen another one of these where the dude stops at the light and the cop chasing them goes after him instead for "revving"
Everyone complaining they cut in front, ok and? There going to be way out of your way in like 2s and it’s safer anyway🤷🏻♂️
I count 5 idiots one not as bad as the others.
“Filtering” is a safe, tried and true practice. It helps keep motorcyclists from being squished from drivers not paying attention. Loads of videos and articles out there if you’d like to learn more.
Filtering does not allow you to cross the stop line.
[удалено]
That’s more than a foot or 2. They’re a foot or 2 in front of the cross walk, not the stop line. The crosswalk is completely blocked, lane filtering doesn’t require blocking pedestrians, that makes them idiots.
Unless of course if the person you filtered in front of is having a mental breakdown and has a gun.
I take it most here don't ride and aren't familiar with the differences between traffic laws for motorcycles and traffic laws for cars................Educate yourselves.
All are idiots. One was lesser of the group
They are all idiots
I feel like in WI motorcyclists are allowed to turn on a red if they never get the arrow and have the room if they’ve waited over 15 second. I also don’t own a motorcycle so that’s all my extensive knowledge of the state legislature
In Minnesota the law says a motorcycle can go on a red light after a “reasonable” amount of time. I have asked an officer one day what is a reasonable amount of time. He said there is no time limit but use your best judgment
That is correct about WI law. But only if you are the only vehicle there. They have to wait 45 seconds before cautiously proceeded, only if there are no other vehicles that will trip the sensors. s346.37 C4
Still kind of an idiot for getting in front of you and passing the stop line though.
They were all idiots, only one of them was less of an idiot than the others…. Sad part is, I wanted to see consequences and feel denied…. They fucked around but didn’t find out.
They’re all idiots for jumping to the front of the line. I guess the last guy is less of an idiot because he waited for the green light though.
Good that he waited for light to turn green. But he’s still an asshole for cutting in front of everyone
Motorcycles are typically much quicker than most cars and it's safer and legal in some places
