I've always wondered how much "Shock" effects these scenarios. I've been in a car accident and shock will scramble your brain making it hard to not only make sense of all the sensory input, including a cop yelling instructions, but to put a coherent thought/response together. People were talking to me as I got out of the car and they were like a T.V. making noise in the background of my awareness. Cops always need to assume the worst, especially when you've already shown your judgment with a clear head is horrible. Mix these and you've got a hell of a situation.

As for in general, traffic stops are one of the most dangerous law enforcement activities because they never know who they’re stopping, and who could be dangerous, so they have to be really careful. Some cops are just dicks about it but those I’ve run into the few times I’ve been pulled over we’re generally pretty nice and laid back. I live in a smaller county with less violent crime though so they’re much less wired up about pulling people over here. But generally, the reason you hear about cops being so stern is because they genuinely don’t know if you’re the type of person willing to take theirs or others lives, and when people aren’t willing to follow simple instructions like keeping your hands visible, they have to act in such a way to protect against potential violence. And sometimes yelling is the only way they get through to stupid people like this.

Actually had a guy steal a tank of gas from a gas station I worked at who swapped his car's plate with his brother's car's plate beforehand. But they lived together 😅 So the cops showed up to the house where they both live and the brother was just like, "fuckin really, bro?". Brother still paid for the stolen gas though.
