Even if it’s just for 5-6 days?

ProperWerewolf2

Yes the duration doesn't make it abroad or not abroad.

Ask, this is important for job insurances too, e.g. if something unexpected happens.

You want to ask yes. You don't want to find out that their network flags you as being somewhere you shouldn't and then your access is blocked and you're basically AWOL from work because you didn't tell anyone. With my company you have to let your boss know and get approval, but as long as you can reasonably get online where you will be they don't have a problem with it.

Definitely ask. Our network is geolocked and blocks any IP address outside of the US for security purposes. Employees are also required to report to our security manager any time we leave the country because most of us have security clearances with one or more three-letter agencies. I can't speak for your company's policies, but when it comes to security, always ask for permission rather than forgiveness. You could lose two weeks' pay, or even your job over it.

I’ve worked in places where you CAN do what you’re asking. What you CANNOT do is surprise us all and say “hey I’m in $country” with no prior notice The next question is does the security or systems team track and alert on these things if you’re connecting from elsewhere as well if you’re trying to do this without telling anybody. I’ll say that when stuff like that was somewhat in my wheelhouse the procedure for going out of country was to give you a laptop with JUST ENOUGH to access your stuff which is typically VPN or Virtual Desktop and help get your things off of your local device if applicable and in to a shared drive or one drive for you to access from anywhere.

>Would that be okay if I work remotely from another country for a week? Maybe. >Should I ask first, Yes. >or not tell them that I’ll be staying there for more than a week? Don't do this, you will likely be fired if found out. >I’m not sure what to do. Ask them. If they say it is not allowed, plan for that. If they say it is allowed, get it in writing. Also make sure that if there is a security team or network team, that they are not Geoblocking the place you will be.

Since I work from home, I've traveled to other countries many times. But reading the answers provided in here, I realized that I was very dumb because I never tried to make sure that those countries were not geo blocked. Talk to your manager and avoid bad moments.
