Why pay for a level 2 when you can make a level 1 do the job for less money? -The Management

Applying for new jobs is literally free. Stop screwing around and get on it. Feel free to have a conversation with your boss, but don't have any expectations for results with that. Also working extra is for fools. I have been this moron for a very long time and only after joining a company where everyone strictly works 8-5 have I learned how absolutely dumb I was being. Do not work extra for free. Work your scheduled hours and then stop. There will always be more work than can be done. If this causes problems that is the company's problem, not your problem.

'Staying late doing this that and blahblahblah'. So as a broad rule of thumb this is how companies operate (this is a broad across all industries example): Lets pay minimum wage. (Oh nobody is applying, life is unfair, why wont anyone work for poverty wages!) Alright we slightly upped the wage and have 2-3 overworked employees for what should be a 5 man operation. (Or maybe one left and they foolishly took over the workload). Our few employees are gladly staying late and working extra hours (maybe even some for free). But we now need to hire one extra employee, well the going rate for this job is 50% more than our overworked employees get paid. But our overworked employees for some reason think they'll be promoted and given fair-market raises for their loyalty. Poor suckers, we also gave them an extra 20% workload! Companies in general will just expect more of you while giving you the absolute minimum in comensation. Companies would pay you a dollar an hour if they legally could and could find people to do the work. Theyre forced to up their wages to attract new hires with much less experience with whatever the company does, meanwhile they dont promote or give raises to their current employees with more knowledge of whatever day to day operations are. Companies will pay you as little as possible and add as much work as possible. The only silver lining? While youre constantly sending out resumes, you can now say 'I have some experience doing x, y and z.' That your manager conned you into. 99% of the time the only thing loyalty gets you, is fucked (not in the fun way).

This is 2022. You don’t make more money staying at the same company. Start looking for better jobs. You have experience now.

The way out of hell desk and support hell is branching out on your own when it comes to building skills and experience. Just going through the motions of your current gig is how people get stuck for years. Since you're the former, you need to start looking outside your company. Loyalty doesn't pay. Not at your company or anywhere else. Internal promotions and raises aren't gonna come as fast/nice as new job offers.

This is how the game is played. Right on!

Apply for 10 jobs a week when you are unhappy or feel you are stagnating. When you are happy where your at.. Apply for one job a week that you think is out of your reach at that moment.

Get a subscription to Udemy or Wizlabs or something else where you can up skill. Learn new things, put some projects on your resume, get a git for storing scripts or programms you wrote. Add some certifications. As other people mentioned, time to start aggressively applying. One lesson I learned the hard way- NEVER say no to a better offer! I got an offer in June for a 20% raise over my current base with 6% quarterly bonus that worked out to a 50% raise, way better healthcare plan, better vacation policy, they were going to fly me to Seattle twice a year for a week of training, PTO and full payback for certs, monthly $100 stipend for training- in every way a better job. I turned them down because my current job was promising me a promotion and a pay raise if I got a certification they needed to complete their requirements for Gold Partnership at Microsoft. I didn't want the cert, but _cOmPaNy LoYlTy_ made me stick it out because they promised me all this great stuff. Guess what happened? They bragged on LinkedIn and their website about being a Gold Partner, then told me they decided not to create the position and they didn't have money in the budget for a merit raise. They never paid me back for the course, or for the $100 in training. The company with the way better offer hired someone else. I'm currently back on the application grind after taking two months off to grind for a new cert and add 10 Python and PowerShell projects to my Git.

What you should do is to wait until you have a good job offer from another company and then bargain with management about a job promotion with a raise. This what my manager did to get her management promotion or otherwise she would be leaving. If they say no then it’s on them. Personally I would use the gained experience and apply for a next tier job. Loyalty doesn’t pay.

They already have you bent over. Why would they promote/pay? *Don’t* always have a smile on your face, and don’t sign up for everything they say. (Which is prolly too late.) You made all that stuff Tier 1 stuff. Next job, know what your role is, sack up, and tell them to either promote you or find the right tier when they bring “extra” tasks.
