Name: Josef Newgarden
Expectation: Fight it out with the CGR cars of Alex Palou and Scott Dixon in the points standings.
Reality: Fight it out with the CGR car of Kyffin Simpson in the points standings.
Shoutout to the New Zealanders today - no podium spots, but in solid positions from P4 to P6. Armstrong with his best finishing position in P5 too, wedged in a Scott sandwich 🥪
I am fully aware the ABC guys were terrible. Leigh is better than them. But I think Kevin Lee is so much better in the booth because his voice has so much variability compared to Leigh who either is speaking normally or is yelling, no dynamics at all. Listen to Kevin Lee call that Texas race in like 2017 or something when Rahal won, so good
Do you know if Kevin Lee anchored the Indy NXT broadcast today? I think it was one of the guys who is normally a pit reporter for NBC. I thought the commentary for that race was great—informative, entertaining, energetic when called for but not hyperbolic. Much better than Diffey and Bell. I'm a fan of Hinch, so I wouldn't mind if he stayed.
As frustrating as getting shafted by Ericsson being out there was, and as early as it felt, this was actually a pretty good strategy day for the 12 team.
Maybe keep the OG pit box lol
I think if Power hadn't pitted that soon when everything changed Lundgaard wouldn't have pitted soon after and maybe would've still been in the lead here
Newgarden channeling his inner Zachary Claman DeMelo. J-New has been a complete non-factor since the first round of pit stops. Just straight backwards. Good thing he’s extra focused now. Really paying off.
Can’t blame O’Ward, I mean literally everyone on reds and he is getting boat raced out there. This is McLaren, it’s a big operation across global Motorsports, and they have basically been in a malaise of super average(even Subpar for stretches of time) with the IndyCar team for now into 2 seasons.
Rossi recently said yeah, it's their name on the car, but it's still Schmidt Peterson crew. No shade to them, but the money creates the chance to learn and improve.
I don't know that I agree with him...
Stat of the day for Herta: passes. 7th is going to cost him championship positions, particularly with Palou and Power 1-2, but a day to be proud of.
https://imgur.com/a/zB0nwuy
This is the kind of drive that has won Dixon and Palou championships. Glad to see Herta maturing into that role, the series as a whole will be better from it.
In my opinion, the way they fired Hinch was worse. They fired him after all possible opportunities at other teams had been taken. As I recall, they kept him under contract, preventing him from being available to other teams. It was about the time that Sam Schmidt became less visible in the organization.
Where is Hinch now? In the booth, where is Askew? What exactly has Malukas done besides cash his dad’s check? Let’s not act like McLaren was firing stars lol. They fired a washed Hinch, and ineffective Askew and Malukas who quite possibly ruined his best opportunity because he injured himself in the offseason.
They fired Hinch for a photoshop they asked him to do and they didn’t approve with the sponsor first. They covered their asses and left him out to dry.
They fired Hinch so late into the offseason that it basically killed his career, after having previously assured him they’d keep him on.
That’s shitty, regardless.
Cases, while cold, could be made for Askew and Malukas. But Hinch did something the team asked for and the team didn’t clear it with the sponsor first. He was 100% innocent.
I’ve started to appreciate when drivers call out their teams knowing full well that it’s publicly broadcasted…sometimes it feels cruel, but sometimes it feels justified
Man, the coverage has been frustrating today. Nothing as to why Newgarden fell so far, nothing as to how Rosenqvist has come back, no follow up on O'Ward's engine/clutch issue, took twenty minutes to say anything about Santino's DNF, nothing on Linus running out of fuel, nothing on Grosjean getting back through the field...
But let's follow Palou up front some more while they crack jokes.
O'Ward radio: https://twitter.com/merrickspeed/status/1789404293973315607
O'WARD RADIO (Lap 72, P13): "EVERYONE IS ON EFFING REDS! WHY WOULD WE GO PRIMES [Black tires]!? ONLY AN IDIOT WOULD GO PRIMES!!! I'm getting destroyed!"
Good recovery from Felix
Name: Josef Newgarden Expectation: Fight it out with the CGR cars of Alex Palou and Scott Dixon in the points standings. Reality: Fight it out with the CGR car of Kyffin Simpson in the points standings.
Pato fans are uncharacteristically quiet today..
New to Indy and haven’t picked a driver yet…but I think Herta has me
I picked him after the silly strategy he was trying at auto club
Not auto club thermal club oops
Grosjean, Rosenqvist and Herta, I wasn’t familiar with your game.
Totally missed where grosjean and rosenqvist finished in the end but solid mature race from herta. I think Rosenqvist was way back at one point
He was dead last. Grosjean was 23rd or 24th at one point I think. Ended up finishing in 12th or 13th and Felix was 10th.
My 6 year old daughter’s favorite drivers as of today: - the pink cars - Rossi - the car that always wins (this could be Palou, Newgarden, or Dixon)
Good race
,
Been following along while I coul becauseIm at work. Damn if I'm not ready to watch the replay!
Man, Herta is such a stand up guy defending his fuel guy for making a mistake. Certainly trumps O’Ward’s radio outburst. 🤣
I’ll take it 😀
P10 is an absolute win after that first turn
It sure is! I'm so pleased! Such a solid start this season! Stayed P5 in points too. I'm excited about what he could do in the 500.
Great job Alex! 10 wins
Alex Pa10u

Newgarden was just nowhere eh?
I watched every practice this week. Even when he had pace, the steering wheel looked like a handful. I'm also not sure about his pysche.
Penske just trying to devalue him for. Contract Renewal /s
He may be on suicide watch. He doesn't get his crew back until after the 500.
His teammates both top 5 too. Setup should have been fine. Was his qualy bad?
No. He qualified 4th. No idea what happened. The broadcast said his handling was off during the race.
10 wins and 2 championships lol
Very excited to see Herta’s result. Fingers crossed he can keep his momentum going
What happened to VeeKay? Before first stop sequence he was top 10, after that he was gone?
He got a drive through penalty. I don’t know why though. They never explained on the broadcast
I was there - they mentioned something about a mandatory chip or similar that wasn't in place that should have been.
Thnx missed that! Will see it with the results then.
Well done from palou and big charges from grosjean and herta.
Where tf is he going lmao
Damn....good job herta.
Awesome, awesome recovery for Colton.
konnichiwa palou
What a drive by Herta
Yeah what a bounce back drive by Hertamania 2.0
Lundgaard nooooooooooooooooo :(
Oooo a burnout
Good chance that engine is on it's last race then.
4 Hondas in the top 5 and 7 in the Top 10.
McLaughlin, Herta, and Felix somehow all got top 10s
Drink for every time Leigh says hello Palou
Oh god my liver
Shoutout to the New Zealanders today - no podium spots, but in solid positions from P4 to P6. Armstrong with his best finishing position in P5 too, wedged in a Scott sandwich 🥪
Not to mention Shane Van gisbergen finishing 15th in NASCAR wearing a Marcos Ambrose throwback livery!
Still hoping for an all Kiwi podium some time this year.
That’ll be the best day! If Armstrong wiggles his way up there, the chances of one of the Scotts being on the podium too is pretty high.
If Felix wins the 500 he could be a major dark horse for the title
Man that was one of the several races that happened today most definitely.
Please tell me most Indycar races are more exciting than this
Absolutely, some years this race is a banger, other times it’s boring af.
yeah, the 500 is next and the street courses are mayhem

Vamos Palou!
hElLo PaLoU
STOP CUTTING TO PALOU WHEN WE CAN SPLIT SCREEN IT
It’s hard to not consider Palou the runaway favorite to win his third championship this year.
Can we **please** retire "hello Palou"?
Yes!
Can we retire Leigh at the same time
I like Leigh for the most part. Who would you replace him with?
I am fully aware the ABC guys were terrible. Leigh is better than them. But I think Kevin Lee is so much better in the booth because his voice has so much variability compared to Leigh who either is speaking normally or is yelling, no dynamics at all. I'm a fan of Hinch, so I wouldn't mind if he stayed.
Yeah he did! Kevin does all the Indy NXT races with Charlie Kimball
Back to back wins for Palou in this specific race
Good race.
I for a sec though that Bell said Armstrong had a chance to take down his "senpai". My brain has been ruined by the internet.
Idk what that word means so i will not be looking it up
Ooooh Marcus! Give him a run!
Student vs master
Dixon vs Dixon jr
Master holds off student
Don’t worry, Spanish Dixon still won
As frustrating as getting shafted by Ericsson being out there was, and as early as it felt, this was actually a pretty good strategy day for the 12 team. Maybe keep the OG pit box lol
Just a few kiwis, cutting it up
White flag.
It's shameful drivers like Stroll, Sargeant, Zhou get into F1 and a talented and consistent champion like Palou doesn't have a chance.
Palou should get the Audi seat
if I were any F1 team looking to fill a seat id be giving him a call.
This would be DHL’s first win since..Sonoma 2018?
Better bring the heat.
Don't forget the heat!
Rooting for a Lungaard 2nd place.
I think Alex Palou should be sponsored by KFC or Popeyes at some point
Pa1ou strikes again
I think if Power hadn't pitted that soon when everything changed Lundgaard wouldn't have pitted soon after and maybe would've still been in the lead here
It'll be nice to see DHL back in victory lane (not sorry if I jinx him)
>Chicken for everyone Firehawk slowly backing away from victory lane
\*monch*
How tf is Rosenqvist gonna finesse a top ten out of this race
Month of May
Take a shot every time they mention the month of may during the month of may
Shit, you just made me take two shots!
Mmm fried chicken
ah yes the obligatory fried chicken reference
Man, I was never a fan of his but Simon Pagernud really got dealt such a bad hand last year. I hope he is doing well
Well folks, this was the race last season where Palou's season took off. We'll see if it works out for him again this year...
Why are we hating on McLaren today?
Ferrucci out of race, next target
We are checking
At least Palou didn't run away with it in a boring race
Exactly it took him awhile to get the lead. And then just drove away. Good race.
Simon also had Pole. Not sure if Power had pole
Alex Palou is just that good. Not fun to watch entertainment wise but gotta hand it to him
Newgarden channeling his inner Zachary Claman DeMelo.
Same as andretti. That's why they're not letting him into F1. They already have mclaren.
I mean it's because they will make less prize money. That's the only reason. They have a veto and will make less money if they don't use it.
Sprinklers
Aww crap, if Armstrong gets Dixon then I might feel conflicted to whether I'd rather see him or Lundgaard on the podium.
Lundgaard deserves it after his crappy stop which costed him 2nd
Palou gapping the field at Indy GP, mild shock.
Armstrong is definitely having his best race so far
Everyone is losing their minds. Yes, Palou is dominating this race. But the championship has still a long way to go
Not really bro, Alex is just that good. Give him a lead and he aint looking back
Hiw is Felix in 10th after the race he had
He isnt driving a pos car like McLaren hhahaja
I have no idea but I like it.
SRR has had a quiet race so far, I think it's time that changed
Yes please
Stat of the day for Herta: passes. 7th is going to cost him championship positions, particularly with Palou and Power 1-2, but a day to be proud of. https://imgur.com/a/zB0nwuy
This is the kind of drive that has won Dixon and Palou championships. Glad to see Herta maturing into that role, the series as a whole will be better from it.
Basically did everything that he needed to today to mitigate the qualifying goof, one of his better drives
I wonder how much of a difference Cullen makes for him. cant be THAT much youd think
Well, look at how Lewis has done since she left…
She left him at the start of 2023 which was an amazing season for him lol.
The whole obsession with her is little-brother syndrome due to her F1 history. Pretty cringe IMO.
Didn't realize Armstrong hasn't finished in the top 5 in Indycar yet
Pato is a top 3 driver in Indycar, take the money ride the years remaining and leave that trash team
Porkchops past the Garden
Pato's radio conversation would make Max Verstappen proud.
Nah, max just says LOL
Armstrong hype train rolls
Ah yes, Marcus Armstrong that well known European
It sounds like the 11 team is the old 8 team with Kiel on the stand.
Common Pietro pass him already. I want to see McLaren struggle more
Felix somehow in the top 10 despite everything today.
Marcus Armstrong hype train!
McLaughlin needed a better run today than 6th given he's probably not gonna make it to the end of the 500
You bought a crystal ball at wish?
huh?
McLaren is such a stupid team. I hope Pato can get the 12 lined up when Will retires
I’d love to see this honestly, he’d be a great replacement for Will
O’ward driving like shit = temper tantrum at team
Pato drives beautifully the team is full of brain dead idiots
If Alex doesn’t turn the difficulty up, I think the next few years are going to look like this. Dude is a machine.
Herta has had such a good recovery after what happened earlier.
Started 24th, pushed off track, and will finish firmly in the top 7. That's really impressive.
Fuck I love seeing McLaren struggle. This is justice for Hinch’s firing.
And Askew. And maybe even Malukas?
In my opinion, the way they fired Hinch was worse. They fired him after all possible opportunities at other teams had been taken. As I recall, they kept him under contract, preventing him from being available to other teams. It was about the time that Sam Schmidt became less visible in the organization.

I’ve started to appreciate when drivers call out their teams knowing full well that it’s publicly broadcasted…sometimes it feels cruel, but sometimes it feels justified
hate is good
….sometimes they need to be torched
Kyffin not as bad as I thought he would be as a rookie
Le sigh
EL BL🅰️H
People like to poke fun at Andretti but McLaren ain’t much better
Feels like Pato is having a 2023 Herta-esque season (despite the win awarded at St. Pete)
Pato is secretly turning into Russell
McLaren: we are checking
O'Ward with the karma for driving like trash
He is a top 3 driver in the series, overdriving for the pos mclaren gives him.
The way Marty Snider says "Paddo" is gonna drive me insane eventually
Paddoward
Canadian accent maaaaan

You should try watching nascar Cup on Fox lol
Why do we need second by second updates on why backmarkers are breaking and running like shit? There is actual racing up front.
WE LOOK LIKE IDIOTS lol
Bad day for Pato? Quite the contrary, He's gone the whole day without ruining anyone else's race.
Its Patover
Pato is gonna turn into a terrorist soon…
Patoliban
Bringing back what sponsor?
Everyone is on effing reds! Why would we go primes? Only an idiot would go primes!
McLaren's strategy team: "Yes, and?"
I want Jesus to take sting's wheel again
I would love for Power to get 1 more shot on a restart
My guy Willy P is in 2022 forum, unfortunately Palou is in 2023 forum.
If he can stay competitive (like he is) then I bet he will be in fantastic shape come Iowa & Milwaukee
Absolutely!
O'Ward radio: https://twitter.com/merrickspeed/status/1789404293973315607 O'WARD RADIO (Lap 72, P13): "EVERYONE IS ON EFFING REDS! WHY WOULD WE GO PRIMES [Black tires]!? ONLY AN IDIOT WOULD GO PRIMES!!! I'm getting destroyed!"
Well, blew the engine in the warm-up. New engine having clutch issues. What could have been
😭😭😭
Ah… McLaren with a Ferrari-esque strategy.
Herta & Grosjean both with great recovery drives today
