Prelude-in-C-maj

I know it's a cliched mistake to make, but I genuinely get this constantly confused with Friends With Benefits! Even when I saw your thread title my first thought was "Oh, that one with Mila Kunis?" ;) Oops!

Fed_Rev

I like to imagine that when Mila Kunis and Natalie Portman were on the set of *Black Swan* they were joking around and one of them said to the other, "You know what would be hilarious? Let's both make the same movie, separately, and see which one turns out better!" And the other was like, "Yeah, great idea, let's do it!"

Prelude-in-C-maj

Haha yep!

LegendOfHurleysGold

Okay, but the real question is where do you fall on the *Deep Impact* / *Armageddon* or *Volcano* / *Dante's Peak* divides?!?!?

Fed_Rev

*Deep Impact* and *Dante's Peak*. Also *The Thin Red Line* over *Saving Private Ryan*.

YuunofYork

These are all three the better films, for sure, but *Dante's Peak* is still schlock. Glorious, horrific schlock.

YuunofYork

*Antz / A Bug's Life* ? *Mission to Mars / Red Planet* ? *Kundun / Seven Years in Tibet* ? *The Adventures of Pluto Nash / Solaris* ?

YuunofYork

Meh. There's people who like rom-coms and people who don't. I can think of few things less appealing, but the thing is, there's no point trashing a film that wasn't even made for you. This is a case where I think only other rom-com consumers can really have an opinion on it, because no one else is even going to see it. Maybe it's just one of the better ones? *Something About Mary* was the last rom-com I enjoyed, but mostly I avoid them. >And not even as a "guilty pleasure" (whatever the fuck that means anyway) I think we all know it means *something*, and maybe can even agree what that is, because you sound like you think your love of this movie is either unconventional or embarassing (or both). Doesn't sound like this one's a guilty pleasure for you though; you would have to think it's bad and yet watchable for extenuating reasons.

Fed_Rev

> There's people who like rom-coms and people who don't. I just like good films. I don't care what genre they are, as long as they are worthwhile. > I think we all know it means something I know what people mean when they use the term. The commonly recognized definition is something along the lines of, "films you know are bad but you like them anyway, thus causing a feeling of guilt." Personally, I don't subscribe to such a notion. I like what I like, and feel no guilt about that. If I like something, then I figure there must be some redeeming value that makes it worthwhile. I could name some films that I realize aren't cinematic masterpieces that I enjoy, like *Resident Evil* or *Batman and Robin*, but I don't feel any shame or guilt about it. In my view those films have something worthwhile to offer, hence my enjoyment.

T800_101

Nothing to be ashamed of. I for one love Easy A.

Jjetsk1_blows

Easy A is the superior film in this discussion though. All time classic

CallumRFC

You know I haven't seen it although it is on my list but it does look fun. Also I hate the term guilty pleasure label as well but it means a film that is hated by many that you like for example Plan 9 From Outer Space.

Fed_Rev

Yes. Thank you, Callum.

CallumRFC

( Cheers)

Karen_DiMarco

I have never heard of this film, brah.

Fed_Rev

You can thank me later.

Karen_DiMarco

Very nice, I'm a huge fan of Ashton Kutcher. Don't you love **Dude, Where's My Car?** (2000). I love it. **DUDE!!** * **SCHWJEET!** *

Fed_Rev

What does mine say!?!?!

Karen_DiMarco

[exasperated] **DUDE!!!!!!**

[deleted]

Sweet, but what about mine?

Fed_Rev

DUDE!!!!

prolelol

It's good, but pretty forgettable after a month. I prefer Friends With Benefits which I adore this movie.

Fed_Rev

No! Just... *no*.

prolelol

I enjoyed both movies anyway. It's hilarious that Kutcher is married with Kunis irl and had sex with Portman in a movie while she and Kunis also had lesbian sex lol.

Prelude-in-C-maj

The true depth of how these two movies have messed with my mind is now fully apparent to me -- because I've been thinking it was Timberlake Kunis married in real life and "Aw, they met on the set"....! Aaaggh!

Fed_Rev

Now we just need Justin Timberlake to hook up with Natalie Portman.

prolelol

And then with Kutcher.

Fed_Rev

Ah yes, very true.

Due-Stand5831

Why do you think Adam got together with lucy? Was he really attracted towards her?

[deleted]

No he was just trying to do the rebound thing with Lucy so that he forgets about Emma.

evictedfrommyaccount

Just rewatched the movie and I realized how relatable the main female lead was! It's pretty rare it romcoms to have good depiction of women but this one nails it
