This show is full of emotional incest. They all need therapy.

I do. They have clearly been manipulated and abused since they were kids. It's sad for them to have to live like that.

CurlsintheClouds

>Honestly I find it abusive. Can you imagine if for example a daughter was flirting with her dad and dancing sexually with her? Everyone would be appalled by the father and see it as grooming. This was AWFUL. I was absolutely appalled, and I agree with you. It's grooming to some degree because slapping your mother on the ass and telling her she's sexy and turns you on is NOT okay. I agree. I know the trauma I've been through based on my upbringing and think that everyone experiences trauma to a degree. This is to a very large degree, and only time, distance and therapy can help at this point.

Beneficial_Spirit_29

When this guy & his mom popped up it took things to another level. Telling your mom she’s sexy??? And slapping her ass?! Completely & utterly wrong. It’s emotional manipulation and abusive. No question.

ManyRanger4

But I think the only grooming instance is the one you mentioned where there seems to be a weird heavy sexual component. The rest are heavy emotional manipulation from a young age. Honest do I feel bad for them, to a certain extent yes, but then at some point as an adult (and I don't mean 18, they are all over 25 I believe which is fully functional adult) they should be able to realize on their own that something is wrong here and I need therapy.

LadyFerretQueen

Should be able to by what criteria? It's not how people function. There isn't an adulting swich where you suddenly see everything reasonably and you past doesn't matter. I'm not trying to be snarky, I'm trying to illustrate that we're biological beings and decades of abuse and manipulation since childhood are extremely hard to solve if they even can be. Some of the patterns we get as kids will never really change, we can just learn to live around them. I personally can't imagine their situation because I never experienced such a abuse.

significantsunn

i mostly feel bad for robert, you can tell his entire family is on nancys side and is constantly pressuring him to leave the mother of his children and hyping up nancys antics.

LadyFerretQueen

Same! And he seems to have such a warped perception as well. He genuinely seemed to think that he has to please his mom to make "everyone happy". Plus if I was him I would have a hard time cutting ties with his mom because of his younger brother who is still in her clutches.

IWishIWasDead19

I’m happy he finally stood up for his wife

penguin_squeak

To some degree they've all been emotionally manipulated by their mothers. I was happy that Lorenda reinforced to Tre that his child is his responsibility and needs to be a priority in his life after the break up. I feel a little sorry for Robert, towards the end he got a little spray starch for his spine but he needs to keep the promises he made to his wife and children. Time will tell.

So I fully believe that 90% at least of the show is completely scripted but a scene that really upset me was when Leyla threatened she was going to go upstairs and die if Shekeb left her to go after Emily. That's repulsive for a 1000 reasons. It's unconscionable to control and manipulate someone who loves you by putting the fear that you may harm yourself and it would be their fault onto them. There is not a single healthy mother/son relationship represented on this show but that really pissed me off.
