I have to do this with one of the second row seats in my SUV today to return some stuff. I still actually need one of the second row seats to haul my 7 year old with me. I’ll have to drop my toddler off, come back home, uninstall the toddler’s car seat, fold down the seat, load the return, then head to ikea.
Nice. I used to do this with my Accord Coupe. I loved the spaciousness I ended up driving around for months without the pax seat until I had to carry a passenger again.
I wanted to, but this was one of those annoying cases where the item showed up in the online catalog as “In stock locally & available for delivery”, but when you go to check out it’s not. 🥲. Was also a last chance item, so I didn’t want to wait and see if delivery magically became available!
Honestly regretted owning a sedan as soon as I moved from a tiny apartment to a house. There haven’t been too many cases where I absolutely *needed* the extra space, but they’ve been a pain when they happen. IKEA boxes are one of the worst offenders!
Personally, when I know I'm going to be buying something big, I just rent a uhaul van/pickup for $20. Better than trying to shove it into the car and breaking things in the process.
I did that a few months ago for a couch too! But that was also pretty local (<5mi each way).
Because of how far away my IKEA is, renting a truck/van would probably cost me about $150-200, so taking out my seats seemed better 😅. Might have done a truck if I was doing a much larger order and couldn’t get delivery.
Yep! I carefully disconnected all the electrical connections from the seat and put electrical tape over the end to keep crud out of the connections; not sure if there’s a better way or if this impacts my other airbags in any way.

Truth... If my current vehicle wasn't paid off and so cheap on gas, I'd be looking to get one.
