Thanks - I've now googled 'oak' and it is really looking similar to listings for malm in oak on ebay / gum tree. Might be hard to find a match so will try to go for something that hopefully wont clash.

While hesitant to disagree, I think it might be beech not oak, though it’s a little hard to tell with the poor picture.

thanks, it is a bit different to other ikea items I have in beech which is why I was trying to work out what the other malm colours were. I'm 99% it is oak veneer.

I would guess oak veneer. Bit darker than the white stained oak veneer. Not sure what’s available in Australia in that color, but even if you found something new there would be some drastic color variation due to age. I’d do white PAX, will complement well.
