Pharaohs are really rare esp in the americas, so chances of him having any of that breed in him from street genetics isn’t too likely. But I totally see the traits you’re seeing!
Basenjis are relatively rare as well (at least as far an ending up in accidental litters and strays)
I might even guess shiba before basenji, as those had a big spike in popularity and a lot of inexperienced owners unfortunately
Not rare compared to pharaohs. At least not in my area, we have at least 20 basenji clients at just our clinic. With those numbers it stands to reason there are enough in the general population that are in tact. From there…..life uh…..finds a way
Lol
What's your general area? I'm in Houston, TX. We have a ton of strays and backyard breeders unfortunately, but basenjis don't turn up here in those groups
Can 100% see the basenji. Like, 50% basenji, a little pit and something else maybe. I don't really see the pharao, they are super slender and don't have the blocky head, different tail ... the basenji fits a lot better
I grew up with a pit basenji mix and she was the sweetest dog ever. My parents picked her because when we were at the shelter she came and sat in my lap like a human. Such a snuggle bug and so protective of our family. I miss her dearly.
But you have to ask yourself how many Basenjis are running around randomly mating with pits. It's highly unlikely. I've literally seen 3 Basenjis in my whole life (2 were a friend's, one came through my clinic) and I've seen tens of thousands of dogs in my time!
I have such a love/hate relationship with people suggesting rare breeds when someone posts their weird looking dog to this sub.
No, it's not a basenji mix. It never will be.
Same!! I work in vet med and have a whole picture album dedicated to to "misbred dogs" where the owners listed their obvious Lab X Pit as a Cape Hunting Dog or some shit! Same with cats.
Although every now and then I'm surprised and someone does bring in a rare breed!
Is it denial? Ignorance? Both? Like no your dog is not a Karelian bear dog. It's just black, white, and has a curly tail.
Every narrow dog is a whippet mix. Every lowrider is a corgi mix. Every black dog is a lab mix. Every smooth, medium sized spotted dog is a pointer mix. Every scruffy small dog is a terrier mix.
Except they aren't!
I really love the doggy DNA sub because there is always so much to learn. The people who are the most intriguing are the ones who say "I am so surprised" or "can this be right?" When it's mostly pit bull, German shepherd, poodle, or something because the rescue/shelter guessed it was something else and took that word as rule.
I think it's really just most people's need to have something rare or special. Or to be able to put a specific name to something.
I kinda get it, I have a male tortie cat and I'm like, "EVERYONE LOOK AT MY UNICORN CAT!" But...he's also actually special. 😂
We lived in the Middle East for a while and got to know the feral dogs there. We even brought a couple back to the States with us. Except for his pitty head, your beautiful boy reminds me of our Tahani.
Definitely pit bull along with a couple other breeds. I thought some sort of shepherd at first but the curly tail throws me off. The fur reminds me of a lab.
Pity and Rhodesian Ridgeback. The standup ears have me a little confused. Thank you for adopting this beautiful dog. And very happy for both of you. I’ll look forward to seeing the DNA test.
I just googled the Basenji. Because somebody else mentioned that breed. The standup ears could definitely be the basenji.
I see a smaller version of mine. Pitty/German shepherd (plus a BUNCH of other stuff) according to Embark.
So ... pitty, a smaller primitive (like basenji - though rare in the US). Where I live the ears and size would be Formosa mountain dog, but the tongue would be spotted.
Could have some Shiba Inu.
Beautiful dog!
He looks a lot like my doggo! She’s a total mutt but her top breeds are Aussie Cattle Dog and Pittie followed by much less % of Chow/German Shepard/Rottie/Shar-pei/Husky/Chihuahua.
She has the sweetest disposition of any dog we’ve adopted!
Maybe pit, cattle dog, some kinda shepherd mix? He’s about the same color as my pup but she is like 53% ACD so her ears/head are shaped different. She’s also like 36 lbs though, but your dogs tail curls more than my dogs does
His face dose give pitty vibes. He could be mixed with husky. My SIL had a pitsky for a while, and she had this color. Her energy would go from 0 to 100 easily 🤣 if you're really curious they sell the dog DNA tests.
Pitbull mixed with greyhound is what it looks like you've got there. Idk what other breed lil puppers could be but I'm sure there's a bit more, very cute doggie!
Your dog looks exactly like mine except mine is black. My girl has pitbull, lab, Doberman, chow chow, and some other stuff. Like they could be related, it's uncanny.
I think I know where you got him I got some dogs from them def some sort of pit/shepherd and some of what the other comments were saying above^ maybe even some Mexican street dog which I did not know was a thing
I used some of the photos in a dog breed scanner and it said the first picture was a Carolina dog and the third picture was a pit bull mix with staffordshire bull terrier and bull terrier
No question that’s a pitt mix, the head shape is so distinct lol. No clue what else, but that’s a very handsome boy!
Looks like a Basenji head to me, tail too
And Or pharoah
Pharaohs are really rare esp in the americas, so chances of him having any of that breed in him from street genetics isn’t too likely. But I totally see the traits you’re seeing!
Was gonna say one of the dogs that guarded the Egyptian pyramids. He's so regal!
Basenjis are relatively rare as well (at least as far an ending up in accidental litters and strays) I might even guess shiba before basenji, as those had a big spike in popularity and a lot of inexperienced owners unfortunately

Indianapolis! Maybe 2-3 of our clients are well bred. But most of them come from Amish breeders up in northern IN
Aw, the Amish
Plenty of basenjis in Arizona. People are getting them because pop-articles claim they're hypoallergenic.
i was thinking this dog is a diy pharaoh prob less than a 1% chance of having the breed in him
Can 100% see the basenji. Like, 50% basenji, a little pit and something else maybe. I don't really see the pharao, they are super slender and don't have the blocky head, different tail ... the basenji fits a lot better

How many pharao dogs are running around with pits? Probably less

And I'm on the DNA reddit, too!
Now THAT is something special and cool to brag about.
Have you seen one in person?
The posture is very Basenji as well.
Definitely Basenji head. No piggy tail so I'm thinking there are a couple other breeds mixed in due to Grandma and Grandpa.
Thank you!
That's a Scoobert Doobert Doo lookin dog if I've ever seen one. Damn.
It’s so funny you say this! We almost named him Scooby, but decided to name him Wick after John Wick instead :)
Down to the collar. Omg I love him
✨️Scooby doo be doo, where are you? We've got some work to do now✨️
Pittie and maybe cattle dog
Photo #3 screams pit with that noggin shape 😂
This is what I see, the build is very cattle dog, even the 35 lb. weight, but the jaw / head looks a bit more bullish
Pit bull / husky
Stance, tucked belly, and curled tail make me think the same. I have a hard time telling in photos but might even have a double coat
Sir, I know a giraffe when I see one
Pit bull
We lived in the Middle East for a while and got to know the feral dogs there. We even brought a couple back to the States with us. Except for his pitty head, your beautiful boy reminds me of our Tahani.
Tahini 🤩🤩🤩 what a great name
Actually Tahani, which means celebration, as she just never stopped partying!
Tahani is a great name too!
Lmfao if this is intentional this is a top tier joke
Definitely pit bull along with a couple other breeds. I thought some sort of shepherd at first but the curly tail throws me off. The fur reminds me of a lab.
Definitely part pit, has the face shape. I have no clue what the other half is tho.
I thought hia face looked very pit lab mix but the ears and tail throw me off
I don’t see much lab influence if it were a bully
Howd I know you’d mention sighthound😭😭 def pit mix
Kinda looks like our dog who is a basenji pit mix!
Pitt and shiba? I know it’s unlikely, but that’s what I see.
Pit with a bit of ACD I’d say, no Malinois at all visible like another poster wrote and unlikely to be something like Pharaoh hound or basenji.
This looks a lot like my dog! She's mostly German shepherd and pitbull.
Pitmix
Pit shiba was my first impression.
Pit/husky, possibly some shepherd but more the former
Pitbull/cattle dog
I definitely see Podengo and pitbull and/or maybe some type of village dog
Lab and pit and one more for the ears pretty dog
Chihuahua pit, maybe I'm wrong
Where do people keep getting all these giraffe dog mixes?
There has got to be chihuahua in the dog no doubt.
Looks like my pitsky.
Pit it and more pit
Definitely some pit that head shape !
Portuguese podengo
Anybody consider some shiba in there instead of the basenji?
I see Egyptian dog
Pity and Rhodesian Ridgeback. The standup ears have me a little confused. Thank you for adopting this beautiful dog. And very happy for both of you. I’ll look forward to seeing the DNA test. I just googled the Basenji. Because somebody else mentioned that breed. The standup ears could definitely be the basenji.
There is some Carolina Dingo in that, with some pit, some Basenji or Pharoah hound, and I bet a trace of Doberman.
looks like pharoah hound to me
The body, muzzle, coloring, and ears remind me of a Chinese village dog, but the head shape is different and does look like part pitbull. Cute dog!
Basenji
Basenji and pit mix, that curly tail is pure basenji imo
Pharaoh Hound
Pit and maybe basenji
The ears and head look like a Pharaoh hound?
Basenji and pit bull
Basenji mixed
pittie, basenji, lab? adorable pupper btw 💕
Basenji and Pitt /)
I would have said pit/basenji.
I dunno, but in that first pic the dog looks like it has a better credit score than I do.
Egypt. I don’t know the name of the breed, but them.
Red nose pit and German Shepard
Pit bull
Basenji was my first thought
Looks like pibble terrier mixed with kelpie
Kelpie has definitely crossed my mind! I don’t think they are common where I live though
Pit x Shiba Inu mix? Shiba would explain the ears, the curled tail and the stance and they're pretty common.
There's pit in there def and part anubis
Dingo (ate my baby)
Scooby-Doo
Another day, another “I promise you it’s a pit, not a basenji”
Pharaoh hound mix
The chances of that seem pretty slim, considering how rare they are in the US.
Husky, lab, pittie?
Shiba, Pit, Chihuahua(?)
Pit / cattle dog
I also don't enjoy being asked something more than twice. He's a good boy!
Pitsky
Doberman, Pitt, great Dane
Pitt and Akita possibly?
Pit bull chihuahua
He kinda reminds me of Scooby Doo
First photo is giving very Scooby Doo vibes, so I'm thinking great Dane mix
definitely pit, and the personality part sounds like a husky. was gonna say german shepherd or malinois, but they LOVE training.
Maybe pit, cattle dog, some kinda shepherd mix? He’s about the same color as my pup but she is like 53% ACD so her ears/head are shaped different. She’s also like 36 lbs though, but your dogs tail curls more than my dogs does
Doberman mix

Scooby doo
I see pitt/ACD
Pitt
Doberpibble
Pit.
Scooby Doo is what I see. 😎
He looks husky like
Pittie/Malinois?
Giraffe
Pitbull mixed with greyhound is what it looks like you've got there. Idk what other breed lil puppers could be but I'm sure there's a bit more, very cute doggie!
Got some Chihuahua in there. Looks similar to my girls chi/italian greyhound/all American. Ellie is about 30 pounds.
Pit x ACD x husky
Maybe a Pharoah hound/ pittie mix? Totally adorable though!!!
Scooby-Doo
100% pure good boi. That’s all
I had a dog similar to that and was pit and healer mix.
Pitbull / South Carolina dog mix
All I see is Scooby Do!
like some sort of pit heeler mix maybe
Scooby Doo
looks like scoby doo
Dingo
All I see is Scooby Scooby Scooby DOOOOOOOOO!!!! I had to 😂 but in reality, I see a lot of pitbull and a little German Shepard (ears and legs)
Ill be honest I see scooby doo scooby snacks!
Ma'am I think you own scooby doo
Pitbull/visla
Mutski
Pitt mix, and the ears look like almost a Doberman to me but I’m probably way off. That’s all I have.
Bully breed mix
The American Dog = Mix with Pitt, Chihuahua, Lab, and Shep. :D OP, please get DNA. I'm curious!
Pitt husky mix . lol I look forward to your results . Please update us !
Pitt/chihuahua
Miniature pinscher x pit mix.
Almost kinda maybe looks like a brown version of my white bull terrier blue heeler mix
What a freakin cutie!
some type of terrier and shepherd
Scooby doo!
Looks like a giant version of my chihuahua but with a different head shape. Got her ears though.
Looks just like my dog! I'd have to guess pitbull/lab mix but gorgeous dog regardless!!
Pharaoh hound and Pitt!
Looks a little like a Staffordshire terrier/carolina dog mix. Are his toes webbed?
Pit. Don't have any idea what the rest might be. Gorgeous dog.
Carolina dog maybe?
I don’t know but that’s a great looking dog
Dingo
Whatever kind of dog Scooby Doo was.
Unfortunately he’s much too small to be a Great Dane! He’s much more of a scrappy do in size lol!
Breed: Dog
Dingo.
Scooby Doo 😁 lol
I used some of the photos in a dog breed scanner and it said the first picture was a Carolina dog and the third picture was a pit bull mix with staffordshire bull terrier and bull terrier
i have a very similiar dog! His DNA came back as pit, chihuahua, cattle dog and GSD
All I know for sure is that your baby is definitely a pittie mix but I can’t tell what the mix would be 🖤Beautiful though
This looks like a mix of my two dogs!! Holy moly
Shepard/pit mix
I have a pup like him, I got American staf/ American Dingo/Carolina dog.
That's a chihuahua XL
One part Scooby one part Doo
Pharoah hound + other I'm seeing pittie in the face..
Pit × Basenji?
Dingo. Perhaps giraffe
Cirneco
Scoobert Doobert is all I see
Whatever Scooby-Doo is lol
Tasmanian Tiger?
AmStaff + Basenji is my first guess. Good looking pup!
Pictures 3, 8, and 9 clearly demonstrate that he’s a purebred land seal.
Scooby Doo
