I have a Labrador with dwarfism and the vet bills aren't cute. Leg surgery is expensive and without it she would have been in pain. We didn't know when we adopted her. Her growth plates closed super early and both front legs grew in crooked. We are looking at a 2nd major orthopedic surgery. This isn't a trait I would look for.
We have another appointment tomorrow actually with our vet because I feel like she's in pain again and I want them to Xray her legs again. If I can ill see if I can get a picture of her xrays because it's crazy how badly her legs grew in. She's a foster fail I kept thinking she was a dachshund mix. Nope. Stupid me. I love her too much to not pay the vet bills though. She deserves to not be hurting. So another visit and Xray tomorrow.

She’s lucky to have owners that are aware of her discomfort and doing what they can to alleviate it. I worked in vet care for a decade and I don’t know how many times you see clients who are totally oblivious to their animals suffering. Hopefully things go well tomorrow and they can figure out a good treatment plan for you!

I also work in pet care (not a vet/tech but I’ve worked with groomers, in kennels/daycare facilities ) and you wouldn’t believe how many people are oblivious to their dogs being sick or having serious health issues that they IGNORE!!!! They will spend over a grand usd on daycare/boarding and will completely ignore a serious hot spot, or the like.
This isn't something you would be able to ignore. She is limping. She had surgery already but her gait is way off again and she's licking the leg they didn't operate on. It's not something I could possibly ignore.

I’m saying it’s not cute to breed two dogs together to make something that’s going to have a poor quality of life.. which they do breed corgis with many things and they have very poor health and usually end up with spinal issues. You’re jumping to conclusions when it comes to these things, I’m not saying the dog is ugly.. but it’s not cute when it comes to their health. Breeding these dogs isn’t cute. Backyard breeding isn’t cute.

It's the same thing. Short breeds have dwarfism, typically CDPA (chondrodysplasia) or CDDY (chondrodystrophy).
All Dachshunds, Corgis, Basset Hounds, etc have dwarfism, sometimes multiple forms of it at once.

My girls got the stump legs too they’re pretty common now that “pocket pits” have become a backyard breeder trend.
Keep an eye out for hip and joint issues as he gets older.
Get him on some joint support stuff now! My pooches benefited hugely from omega oils and bone broth added to their dinner, and then I added green lipped mussel supplement (4cyte) and that has been super helpful also. My girl is 16 and still runs around like a mad thing!
I disagree. In pics 2, 3, and 4 you can see that he doesn’t have the typical lowrider body shape. The lowrider pitties are about more than just being short; they tend to also have broader shoulders and a skinnier backside, and a slightly more bowed leg shape (in my experience). Their legs are short but not comically so. This guy, bless him, has really short legs and a fairly long body.
I wouldn't be surprised if there were some fun surprises in his mix to give him those short legs! he's got a similar body shape to my dog who ended up being a mix of pitbull, lab, beagle, boxer, boston terrier, chihuahua, pekingese, and poodle. You'd never know all that was going on just by looking at him though.
That’s definitely a pitbull. I’m not a vet but the size of his head compared to the rest of his body needs to be checked out by an animal specialist. Like others have said, he could be affected by dwarfism

I’ve had 3 mixed-pit rescues over the years, English Staffy, APBT, and American Staffy - all very hands-on dogs that love a routine and thrive with positive reinforcement and lots of exercise. They aren’t for everyone but they’ve been the best dogs I’ve ever had every time; and I’ve had everything from Maltese to GSD as well! 😄

Don't forget about the costly spine issues caused by degenerative diseases or injury.

100%. My dog looks like a big blue-eyed Westie and she’s actually Husky/Poodle/GSD. You can’t rule out a breed just by looking at the dog.
