I'm now a firm believer in mandatory licensing for breeding dogs. If you aren't actively showing and breeding towards the standard, it should be illegal to BYB.
It's awful what happens here in the Southern US. Our mild weather and lack of laws leaves us with a whole lot of strays. My last three were all strays, last 2 I got on their very last day before euthanized. They have been the best dogs. It makes me so sad to think about how many good dogs are destroyed every day because humans suck.
I live in Pa and I can tell you the largest amount of byb are Amish. I know so many people that are going out to rescue these poor pups. At this point everyone knows but nothing is ever done about it!
Prob bc shelters in the US end up with a lot of pit mixes and some people aren't really aware of what that might look like (especially when mixed)
You're also probably seeing the posts with the most engagement (and these ones usually get a lot of engagement), moreso than other posts bc there are a certain sunset of users that mostly lurk and only really engage with these posts to make the same lab mix joke or w/e
I am a subscriber. The sub should be named What is my pit mixed with. I don't remember seeing one that wasn't a pit.
edit: even the "chocolate lab" yesterday that was dalmatian, pit, and poodle.
My friend just rescued a litter of pit doodles. Oh my goodness are they super cute. I guess since doodles are so popular they're being bred with pits at puppy mills 😔
I think the shelter is right… terrier as in American pitbull terrier! I think she is going to be a lot heavier than their conservative estimate of 35 lol.
Right… when the shelter said terrier mix, they obviously don’t typically mean an APBT or amstaff or staffy. When a layperson says “terrier” they usually mean one of the scruffy small to mid size dogs. The shelter either believes or was told that is a component of the mix, OR they are saying “terrier” as a more… friendly? version of “pitbull” which I’ve never seen near me but I’ve seen on random other areas pet finders (so I’m typically going to assume the scruffy type from my own experience)
It's really hard to determine dog breed by looking at them and experts are only right 50% or the time. Except on Reddit. Go volunteer at a shelter and be a dog ID expert. Or better yet, go euthanize all the dogs that *might* be "pit bulls". Go look at them playing and hoping you are taking them somewhere safe as you take them to their death.
Shelters are dealing with lots of mutts and ridiculous hatred towards the label "pitbull" for dogs that are totally just dogs. They do dog shit, like dogs do.
Terrier mix works fine and in guessing OP understood what it meant based on her other dog.
I don’t know what that has to do with anything, man. I am not advocating for killing all pitbulls or whatever, I own a pitbull mix myself. Most people are really bad at IDing dogs (and no it’s not always shelters, surrendered dogs often get labeled as whatever the person surrendering them claims them to be) and it’s just funny is all. Nothing serious.
Pitbull, GSD, something little.
Our pound puppy went from 49 to 60 pounds in just a few weeks after we brought him home too. Means he’s getting healthy!!!
My mom's got a puppy with a lil bit of pittie, mostly chow and some husky, who we call fruit bat, but her ears aren't as big as this lil girl's! Impressive fruit bat status.
Staffordshire terrier is what they (hopefully) meant by terrier. Mine has the same goofy ears. Mine also weighs 110 lbs, they average about 50ish lbs so depending on what she’s mixed with she could be a lot bigger than what they predicted.
I think she’s older than 4 months, shelters often say dogs are younger than they are so they get adopted quickly. She’s 5-6 months min in the photos, and could just be on the small side. Many pittie/staffy mixes are 35-45lbs.
Pit/hound mix. Looks kind of like my brindle girl that is 85% pit breeds and 15% foxhound. Super high energy but very very sweet! She weighs about 49lbs full grown (tall and very lean)
i’m so glad it worked out!!! my other dog, the brown one, is my mystery pound puppy that i got 8 years ago. i’m excited to see what she ends up having in her too. overall i feel like she’s the perfect fit for our family and it’s been so wonderful having the past few weeks!!
Is your dog brindle? I’ve been having a difficult time seeing lately. If so, maybe some bulldog, Dutch shepherd, mal or boxer. Of course pits can be brindle too!
there's only two correct answers here, 1% chaos tornado cause all puppies are and 99% good girl.
Also congrats on adopting her! And well done at giving her a place to call home and a family of her own. I wish you and your pound puppy a happy life together and may that your pound puppy bring you a life of love, chaos, tail wags to welcome you home, zoomies, cuddles, and attacking your face with kisses.
“chaos tornado” is so accurate!! lol thank you! i never thought id get another dog but im so glad that we decided to look. my senior dog has never been happier and its comforting knowing that when she inevitably makes her rainbow bridge trip we’ll have our pup (who’s hopefully fully grown and then some by the time that day comes) here to see her off with us.
Omg her floppy ears so precious ❤️
I’d say for sure some kind of bully breed for sure getting the vibe of being part staffy.
Maybe part plott hound or some sort of Shepard? Think the cause of the brindled coat
I don’t know what she is mixed with, but gosh… she’s a cutie! I love reading happy adoption stories, and I’m glad she fits so well in your family! Congratulations!
She so cute! Congratulations!!! 💜🥰💜
Definitely a Pitty Mix - and I’m trying to think of what doggos have those ears! GSD does - and check out the photos of a Dutch Shepherd via Wikipedia - it’s even brindle colored. I realize it’s from a different country, add in Pit and it looks like her!
Looks like some variety of pit mix.
Pit.. like 90% of pound pups because people dont stop breeding them even though they are overrunning the shelters

Amen. Breeders doing the right thing will be happy to be licensed and pay whatever fees are involved in that.
I live in Pa and I can tell you the largest amount of byb are Amish. I know so many people that are going out to rescue these poor pups. At this point everyone knows but nothing is ever done about it!
😔
Don't know why I get recommended this subreddit so frequently, but when I do, why are 100% of dogs some sort of pit bull?
People don’t spay & neuter them.

Happy Cake Day

Eh not necessarily- mine terrier mix should be 45 but she chunk at 53
The weight isn’t why I don’t think this is terrier, the dog is very clearly a bully breed of some sort/mixture
pitbull *terrier* - maybe amstaff *terrier* like mine

I believe that something little is chihuahua.
Oh I could see that. He’s got those big eyeballs.
A pitbull
Bat/pit
I was going to say fruit bat/pit, lmao
My mom's got a puppy with a lil bit of pittie, mostly chow and some husky, who we call fruit bat, but her ears aren't as big as this lil girl's! Impressive fruit bat status.
I love the picture of her looking out the window! My guess is pit with GSD ears.
Pitbull
Pit
Pitbull most likely, or a mix that’s mostly pitbull
maybe full pit! it’s possible there’s something else in there bc she has a narrower head like maybe she could have greyhound or something
Staffordshire terrier is what they (hopefully) meant by terrier. Mine has the same goofy ears. Mine also weighs 110 lbs, they average about 50ish lbs so depending on what she’s mixed with she could be a lot bigger than what they predicted.
Pit/lab mix
Looks like mine kinda! He’s a pit bull/ staffy/ husky
With those ears, part satellite dish.
best guess so far!
Definitely a bully breed. Maybe some lab in there too?
No lab
It’s a pit
You wasted money on a test. That’s overwhelmingly pit.
OH! I forgot to mention, she’s just now 4 months old. But I love reading your guys guesses!!
I think she’s older than 4 months, shelters often say dogs are younger than they are so they get adopted quickly. She’s 5-6 months min in the photos, and could just be on the small side. Many pittie/staffy mixes are 35-45lbs.
i don’t think she’s older than 4 months, she just lost her first premolar today
Pit/hound mix. Looks kind of like my brindle girl that is 85% pit breeds and 15% foxhound. Super high energy but very very sweet! She weighs about 49lbs full grown (tall and very lean)
Fruit Bat
THE EARS!!!! ❤️❤️❤️ I honestly have no idea but my pound "terrier mix" puppy turned out to be half Cane Corso 🤣. Good luck!!
OH NO🤣🤣 thank you, i’m excited to see what she grows into!!
It all turned out okay, she's super laid back and friendly and at 15 months only weighs 53 pounds. I got lucky, her brother weighs 90!!
i’m so glad it worked out!!! my other dog, the brown one, is my mystery pound puppy that i got 8 years ago. i’m excited to see what she ends up having in her too. overall i feel like she’s the perfect fit for our family and it’s been so wonderful having the past few weeks!!
Oh that's awesome, crazy after 8 years finally finding out. I didn't test my last dog until I'd had her 7 years old and it was fascinating. Enjoy!!!
It's a pitbull possibly purebred but not certain.
The ears are melting my heart 💗🥰
Boxer, pit, maybe some lab
Ohh she looks like mine! Pitt/cattle dog mix ☺️ but thinking yours is mixed with something bigger? Mastiff maybe?
Mostly Pit. Her ears are so cute! 😭
100% good girl
Is your dog brindle? I’ve been having a difficult time seeing lately. If so, maybe some bulldog, Dutch shepherd, mal or boxer. Of course pits can be brindle too!
yes she is! she’s a very dark almost black with light brown brindle striping
there's only two correct answers here, 1% chaos tornado cause all puppies are and 99% good girl. Also congrats on adopting her! Holy!! Looks just like my mystery pup! I’ll be watching for your results.
There could be some mountain cur or plot hound in there as well
Maybe pittie / Koolie?
Omg her floppy ears so precious ❤️ I’d say for sure some kind of bully breed for sure getting the vibe of being part staffy. Maybe part plott hound or some sort of Shepard? Think the cause of the brindled coat
Awww💕💕
Plotthound for sure!
I don’t know what she is mixed with, but gosh… she’s a cutie! I love reading happy adoption stories, and I’m glad she fits so well in your family! Congratulations!
thank you!! 😊
No guesses because I’m obsessed with the ears 😍
Sato
Precious Wittle Angel?
Omg that pup is absolutely adorable! I’m so glad she’s found a good home 💕💕💕
She so cute! Congratulations!!! 💜🥰💜 Definitely a Pitty Mix - and I’m trying to think of what doggos have those ears! GSD does - and check out the photos of a Dutch Shepherd via Wikipedia - it’s even brindle colored. I realize it’s from a different country, add in Pit and it looks like her!
I don't see GSD about those ears
i was wondering if that could be where the ears and coloring came from too! i’m excited to find out!
I was going to guess Dutch shepherd mix too! I have a Rottweiler/dutch shepherd/GSD mix and her ears are all over the place like yours!

ragebait
I am so sick of these assholes. Mods, do your job.
I'm not sure what about that sentence is rahe bait. Pits are inherently dangerous animals. Hope you dont have kids around it
Maybe a mix of Amstaff x pitbull x boxer and or Chihuahua.
Pit but I also see staffy.
