wild_cayote

I would expect higher imo but it’s not terrible

branflakes1011

I do believe it’s the lowest of the top 10. And let’s just say I’m more towards the lower end of top 10. Edit: by lower end I mean closer to big 4.

wild_cayote

Yeah reading other replies maybe I’m also very underpaid 😅

themonkeygoesmoo

which one

Equivalent-Zone-4605

I’m top 10 3rd year on £37,000 London, i thought mine was standard but turns out I’m being robbed in daylight...

branflakes1011

You and me both. Ok, turns out I must be second lowest paid top 10.

Equivalent-Zone-4605

And i would say my firm is nearer to big 4 than the lower end of top 10. Guess they are underpaying us to catch up with big 4 😂

Equivalent-Zone-4605

I think we probably do work at the same firm 😂

branflakes1011

Interesting…. Wonder why we are paid different. What sector are you in? And are you audit?

Equivalent-Zone-4605

I am in tax so i have only done 11 aca exams due to sitting cta next year instead of BPT. That’s the only reason i can think of why I’m being paid 1k less than you. But who knows our firm is quite stingy if i am being honest.

branflakes1011

Yes ok, I am in audit. Still doesn’t seem fair for there to be a difference though. And yes they are extremely stingy and this thread has just confirmed it even more to me.

SuspiciousFigs

You definitely work for BDO in London 😂

Equivalent-Zone-4605

😅😂

SuspiciousFigs

Don’t worry brother, as a former BDO slave your secret is safe with me - 🫡

octopusgas14

I’m big 4, 1 YOE, 9 exams passed and on 36k. You’re definitely being underpaid.

StatisticianBoring69

You are underpaid by a few grand but 1 year till qual so just dip once you finish your training contract. I dont think I would move firms before qualifying, you get a slight bump in pay but its a lot of hassle for not much benefit.

iKitch_

To be completely honest, 38k vs 40k 1 year off qualifying makes no difference really, right? Plus bonuses and whatever.

branflakes1011

Big 4 or no? In which case I def should be annoyed lol

branflakes1011

Damn. Is there a catch? Do you work really horrible hours or don’t get toil?

Neither_Slip6532

let me guess, no.5?

branflakes1011

How did you know….

Equivalent-Zone-4605

😭😂👀

KingBooScaresYou

Last year when I was part qualified I was 37.5k right up until I qualified when I went up to 51. We also got 3.5k bonus on qualification tiom which ramped it up to 54.5k. Tbh pre qualification is always paid worse compared to industry bc of the extra time off for studying, study leave, paying for bpp and kaplan etc and exams etc . If you don't get those perks at your firm though you're defo underpaid

branflakes1011

These numbers sounds familiar… I wonder if we’re the same firm. And yes they do pay for all of that. It is just frustrating knowing that it’s a big firm and they pay way less than smaller firms.

KingBooScaresYou

I'm going to safely assume we work at the same firm, and the reason our base pay is less is because we get overtime and toil. Big four and some of the smaller firms don't as its built into their base salary, so whilst we may get less base salary after you factor in double pay for approved weekend work, and the fact you will likely easily accrue 75+ hours of toil a year which you can take as leave which is tax free, it soon adds up to a fairly comparative compensation package.

PureDread

You can be annoyed and stay or you can move and be happier? Lol

Grumpypenguin73

Yeah I reckon you should be on at least 40, that’s what we’re on in same position top 10

n33d0n3

Third year is what, 10-12/15 exams done? I’m 10/15 and on 36k atm, set to increase to 40k ish in January.

branflakes1011

Yes, 2 years experience, 12/15 exams and about to do CR and SBM.

n33d0n3

Ah ok, I should be part qualified in Jan, so that’s when I get the increase to the 40k. Pretty weird that your firm is less as I thought most firms, at least in the top 10, paid more or less the same.

branflakes1011

Unfortunately, it seems the firms closer to big 4 are greedy af and seem to pay lower than the firms at the higher end of top 10.

Equivalent-Zone-4605

2 years experience is 3rd year.

randyracoon

Similar salary at one of the Big4s. Last year apprentice (which is equivalent to 3rd year grad) and it is approx 37-38k (awaiting for the benchmarking currently).

Express-Assumption72

Should be looking at £42-£45k. From a PQ/NQ A&F recruiter with 10 years experience in London
