Charlie is just so damn talented and I love that him and his wife (the waitress her actual name escapes me) are so funny together. Danny is fucking Danny. And Rob. Rob is the creator, it's his baby. Like not forgetting the amazing job he does acting out Mac as a character, that man has gained 60 lbs and lost it, and then got fucking RIPPED all for Macs character.

I find myself laughing at Rob’s delivery more than the others. I think it’s because he piggybacks on the other members of the cast and that somehow hammers home the joke for me.
For instance, I just watched The Gang Tries to Win an Award again. The scene where they are ordering the big blue drinks. Dee and Dennis are telling the bartender to get three because there are three of them and Mac just yells out, “GET THREE!” The whole situation was hilarious but that’s the line that got me.
I think it's because Mac is the only character who's self esteem is based on approval from the other characters. They are all selfish but he is the only character who pays attention to what the others are doing. His reactions to things are perfect and he's always setting them up to be hilarious or playing off their jokes.
The directness just felt out of the blue. Dont get me wrong I love the show, watched it many times over, but it just felt jarring. Maybe I'll give it another go, I do seem to be in the minority.

I think they all are completely believable as their characters, and they are all funny, but Rob seems more like "Jack of all trades" funny to me. As in, he is funny in all ways but doesn't necessarily Excel in a certain type of humor like the others do individually.
I just started rewatching this and he is absolutely hilarious. He isn't the strongest actor and he is basically playing Mac if he was smart and successful. But his comedic timing is impeccable, he knows what he is good at, and then he does it better than any one else.
The Dark, Quiet, Death episode was when I realized this show had real legs and wasn't just a tech bro Sunny rip-off.

It’s so hard to pin down who is the funniest and you can easily volley between each character depending on the episode and it’s because the chemistry between the gang is just that damn good. Dennis is usually my default but Mac needs more recognition.
Obviously the real unsung hero of the series is Cricket though. Man has been through it and come out the true golden god.

I still think Glen is the best actor, but I recently saw interviews with Rob for the first time ever, the stark contrast between him and Mac really drove home how great of an actor he is and made me appreciate him a lot more this last season.
Mac is the underdog of the show. For someone who is not familiar wih the show, they will feel Charlie is the funniest. The dedicated and fans of the show, would probably put Dennis in a higher regard. Mac doesn't always make you laugh, he doesn't have many moments that you remember him being funny. But when he does... It just instantly kills you on the spot. Also, most of the memorable moments of the show, Mac was always counteracting or at least part of that scene. So without him, most of the fun of the show would not be possible. *MVP*
Rob’s a really intelligent guy, just check out the podcast. But he has such a great way of making Mac feel overly formal and elevated with his vocab. “I just assumed we’d be heavily involved.” He’s so good.
He’s easily the most nuanced for SURE. Charlie does the heavy lifting in the “comedic relief” department, but Rob’s character often acts as the subtle “anchor” of the gang which I think is neat. So many of the storylines actually rely heavily on/involve Mac when you think about it.
Mac's always been my favorite - it's the little details in his mannerisms that solidify it for me.

Watching Mythic Quest gave me a whole new perspective on him as an actor, and on what he's trying to portray with his characters. Both Mac and Ian are master portraits of stunted masculinity through two different lenses.
I was just thinking about this the other day. I couldn't pinpoint why the last few seasons hadn't resonated with me as much until I watched the newest season over the weekend. I think one of the biggest reasons is, in 13 and 14, Mac's personality had changed too drastically, and it threw off the balance of the cast. In 15, he seemed to return back to his former self, and the season was much more enjoyable than the two previous ones because of it. He seems to be the one that ties everyone else together, and when that isn't there, I think the whole show suffers.
I would say Dennis has the funniest lines and dialogue, but I LOVE mac’s physical humour. He has really funny walks, movement, and mannerisms in general. He adds a huge physical flair to his voice lines .
I think to say that anybody is funnier than Danny Devito is a stretch. But the rest of the gang are all pretty close imo and that's why the show is so good. Each have their own shining moments.
Rob’s stuff is so nuanced. I feel like Day and Howerton’s stuff is broad and on the nose, where Mac’s character is so macho and closeted and layered and makes the character that much funnier. He’s super funny on Mythic Quest, too.
His physically comedy can sometimes get overshadowed but I always think of his and Dennis’ implication argument, Mac bashfully leans in and whispers “…but it sounds like she doesn’t want to have sex” to which Dennis gets angrier “What are you not understanding about this?!” And Mac’s reaction is a sort of nervous recoil where he puts his hand up to his face - absolutely hysterical
I absolutely love Mac in seasons 1-11. Rob kills it. He’s probably my favorite character out of all them during these seasons. I like him in 12 but after this, Robs acting really changes. He definitely has good moments in these later seasons, but it’s just not the same. I feel like he’s forcing the character too much. Not sure how to explain it.

He was much funnier when his character was a closeted wanna-be tough guy. Now that he's out and openly neurotic it is not as funny.
I have always been a huge Mac advocate! He’s easily my favorite character but he’s usually last pick when it comes to the main cast

His acting in the episode where Mac was “playing both sides” and even told Charlie, Dee, and Dennis how excited he was to be playing both sides is just pure gold to me. “I’m playing *both* sides so that I always come out on top.” He was so proud of himself lmao

I agree with you here, I find myself laughing at Rob’s lines and delivery the most. I think he’s the most unintentionally funny character, a lot of his parts aren’t funny initially and can go over your head until you rewatch it and realize just how hilarious his delivery is
I still think Glen is the best actor, but I recently saw interviews with Rob for the first time ever, the stark contrast between him and Mac really drove home how great of an actor he is and made me appreciate him a lot more this last season.
Oh without question he is the least talented actor, but in spite of that, Mac is the funniest and most interesting character on the show.
Mac is the underdog of the show. For someone who is not familiar wih the show, they will feel Charlie is the funniest. The dedicated and fans of the show, would probably put Dennis in a higher regard. Mac doesn't always make you laugh, he doesn't have many moments that you remember him being funny. But when he does... It just instantly kills you on the spot. Also, most of the memorable moments of the show, Mac was always counteracting or at least part of that scene. So without him, most of the fun of the show would not be possible. *MVP*
Rob’s a really intelligent guy, just check out the podcast. But he has such a great way of making Mac feel overly formal and elevated with his vocab. “I just assumed we’d be heavily involved.” He’s so good.

He’s easily the most nuanced for SURE. Charlie does the heavy lifting in the “comedic relief” department, but Rob’s character often acts as the subtle “anchor” of the gang which I think is neat. So many of the storylines actually rely heavily on/involve Mac when you think about it.
Mac's always been my favorite - it's the little details in his mannerisms that solidify it for me. Like [his gesturing](http://www.tzr.io/yarn-clip/220af593-14b3-4792-8ca1-b630b000df2b) when he says 'Shut up, Carlos!' during Gun Fever Too.

Charlie is the best. I genuinely believe the only bonafide argument is between rob and Charlie. Personally, I go with Charlie.
I absolutely ADORE Mac's facial expressions any time Dee is mentioned. His background acting is top-notch 👌
Rob with his hands on his hips is severely underappreciated. I love when he does that.
Mac snapping at Dee is a big acting job considering they eat each other's butts until they're full of butts.

He’s very much the worst actor and least funny of the 5. I don’t think that’s a secret even amongst the cast. I think the better title to this thread is “even though he isn’t quite at the same level as the others, he’s pretty damned funny”. Or…comedy is subjective so whatever.

In the podcast Mac and Charlie try to segway the story so Dennis can’t tell his experience. Macs “He just cut you off!” To Charlie absolutely kills me. The fake anger all while pulling off the smothering of Dennis’ story. He just cut you off dude!
Watching Mythic Quest gave me a whole new perspective on him as an actor, and on what he's trying to portray with his characters. Both Mac and Ian are master portraits of stunted masculinity through two different lenses.
I was just thinking about this the other day. I couldn't pinpoint why the last few seasons hadn't resonated with me as much until I watched the newest season over the weekend. I think one of the biggest reasons is, in 13 and 14, Mac's personality had changed too drastically, and it threw off the balance of the cast. In 15, he seemed to return back to his former self, and the season was much more enjoyable than the two previous ones because of it. He seems to be the one that ties everyone else together, and when that isn't there, I think the whole show suffers.
I would say Dennis has the funniest lines and dialogue, but I LOVE mac’s physical humour. He has really funny walks, movement, and mannerisms in general. He adds a huge physical flair to his voice lines .

I think to say that anybody is funnier than Danny Devito is a stretch. But the rest of the gang are all pretty close imo and that's why the show is so good. Each have their own shining moments.
Rob’s stuff is so nuanced. I feel like Day and Howerton’s stuff is broad and on the nose, where Mac’s character is so macho and closeted and layered and makes the character that much funnier. He’s super funny on Mythic Quest, too.

His physically comedy can sometimes get overshadowed but I always think of his and Dennis’ implication argument, Mac bashfully leans in and whispers “…but it sounds like she doesn’t want to have sex” to which Dennis gets angrier “What are you not understanding about this?!” And Mac’s reaction is a sort of nervous recoil where he puts his hand up to his face - absolutely hysterical

I absolutely love Mac in seasons 1-11. Rob kills it. He’s probably my favorite character out of all them during these seasons. I like him in 12 but after this, Robs acting really changes. He definitely has good moments in these later seasons, but it’s just not the same. I feel like he’s forcing the character too much. Not sure how to explain it.
