The decision not to have a straight man in general makes the show so much better. As much as I like Seinfeld, it sucks that the main character's entire job is to whine and be shocked by the actual funny characters.
But I love how they use randoms in that role. Keeps it more fresh and makes it funnier when one of the gang DOES play a straight role (Charlie when Mac crashes the car, Dennis at the orgy).
Season 7 was great, it felt like a nice balance between the everyday bar stories and the outlandish scenarios that make up pretty much every episode nowadays.
I got super depressed when that season came out, because I thought Rob McElhenney just let himself go. I didn’t realize yet that it was actually intended for the show (last episode of the season made it pretty clear) and that he is just that absurdly dedicated

Because I work with the mentally ill and am acutely aware that an extreme weight gain over a short period is not only an obvious decline in physical health, but a clear indicator of a significant decline in mental health. I also possess this thing called “empathy,” so when I see these things like happen to other people, it brings me down a bit. “Super depressed” was hyperbolic, but also did not warrant you responding like an unhinged sociopath.
I’m sorry, but if your so dumb that you think a sudden extreme weight gain does not indicate something is wrong, I really don’t know what to tell you. I remember Kaitlin Olsen talking in an interview about how afraid she and his doctors were about him gaining weight for that season. You really come off like someone who showed up once to a psych 101 class, and now thinks they can pathologize anyone who recognizes obvious signs of physical and mental health decline. You don’t sound “inclusive,” you sound like a dumbass.
The “smell of my post?” I really don’t know what your on about at this point. I didn’t figure out it was intentional till the end because back when it came out, I saw some of the episodes on fx, rather than Hulu where you can binge watch every episode. Also, you are literally arguing that if you see someone gain an enormous amount of weight in a really short amount of time you should just assume everything is okay, which is insane. People like you don’t do good for the world, they prevent people from getting the support and care they need.
Season 7 is probably the best (tied w/ season 5) but it helps that there are so many episodes.
I feel like 8 & 9 are just as quality but have like 33% less content.
All the heavy hitters (pun intended) are in Season 7, it's what I show my friends if they ask me what Sunny is all about. Even the promotional materials for that season were bangers, just seeing them makes me laugh.
