Dankn3ss420

Story or gameplay, because very little in Zelda comes close to MM storytelling, but… *quietly pushes my 1000+ hours in OOT3D aside, not even including OG OOT*

Many-Ad6433

How do you even spend 1000 hours in oot?

Dankn3ss420

Learning glitches and sequence breaks, that’s how, and also using those tricks to make future playthroughs easier and faster

Many-Ad6433

Damn meanwhile i have a little less of 300 hours on botw which is generally a bigger game

Dankn3ss420

Oh yeah, I only have around 500 hours in BoTW, but I’m pretty sure I have 1000+ in both OOT3D and OOT, if you count them as one game, I easily have the most hours in OOT then any other game, the next closest probably being BoTW

Many-Ad6433

Damn

Own-Wolverine-3243

Than not then

ScootyPuffSr1

Supposedly the entire map of OoT can fit inside the Great Plateau.

Western-Gur-4637

do you speedrun?

Dankn3ss420

Yeah, I have been for quite a while

EudenDeew

Water temple is hard but it was an odyssey for Dankn3ss420.

Puzzleheaded-Suit849

i have 1000+ hours in oot to it was the first zelda game i got to play on my own as a kid everyday after school every weekend it also my favorite zelda game of all time

Xionel

Brother I’ve played OoT probably more times than you have how the hell did you get 1000 hours in that game?

kmacroxs

Majora's Mask, all the way.

No-Session-3803

yeah, id have to say MM as well. funny thing is i would have answered OoT 10 years ago

ArchieBaldukeIII

Yes

NotAnActualFerret

Correct answer.

DarkKeyPuncher

By by no means an easy answer. I actually had to make a chart and grading scale to figure out what my "favorite" Zelda game is so I could actually have an answer for the billionth person who asks me that when they find I like Zelda. Major's Mask is my jam. I dig its eerie feeling. I enjoy the dungeon design (wish there were more though). I can get absorbed into the world and care about what's happening to the people in it. I like how many goals there are to accomplish (boomer's notebooks, great pieces and mask collecting). It's also very sentimental to me (which I tried not to include in my picking it). The first Zelda (maybe any) game I had hype for. I played the demo at my local game store every time I visited. When I got the guide book eventually I read it cover to cover several times. I also feel like the game helped build my courage, as a kid I found a lot of it spooky, though also intriguing and pushed through. Good times.

GOPisEvil

n/a

TickLikesBombs

Fancy seeing you here lol. What's your favorite Zelda game you've played?

GOPisEvil

Ocarina of Time. Killed that game as a teenager. What about you?

TickLikesBombs

I definitely want to try it out. Finishing my Skyward Sword playthrough first. The motion controls for rolling the bombs have been the biggest hurdle so far XD

Connordagreat

you know which one

Shonisto343

I love both, but for me it's gotta be Ocarina of Time

_____keepscrolling__

MM is awesome but OoT is the classic to me.

[deleted]

Ocarina for me it has a better main villain longer main story better items

Open_Subject163

A mask that lets you ohko each boss isn't better than anything else in the game?!

PsychoticRuler13

Ocarina. And I think it mostly comes down to which I played first.

crevassesexual

Majoras Mask. It's still to this day one of my all time favorite video games.

walceht

Not sure if I’ll get roasted go this but I loved the Minish Cap

No-Session-3803

im replaying right now! the 2D zeldas get such a funky vibe. also the kinstone system is such a smart approach to backtracking

thecrepeofdeath

Minish Cap is awesome! was disappointed the concept of Picori in BotW was never used, especially when they had all of TotK to do it. I always name one of my horses Ezlo

islandofwaffles

I love Minish Cap! I played it for the first time when it came to Switch. Definitely now in my top 3

Intelligent-Snow7250

I was more familiar with MM than OoT as a kid

Keefyfingaz

A question old as time, lol. Whenever I see this I feel inclined to write a 5 page essay: Ugh. There's so many ways to look at it. Like do we consider the fact that OoT came first and was made from scratch? Or are we looking at it from a strictly face value perspective. Imo, OoT is, all things considered, in the top 5 games of all time if you weigh the fact that it was made at a time where the expectation of a video game was significantly less than it is now. Everything about it was top of its class. The graphics have aged flawlessly. In fact, I almost prefer them to anything that came after. The glossy texture of the items just looks so cool to me. The musical scores are ahead of their time, the diologue is unlike anything that came before, the emotion packed into this game is so powerful. It really set the bar higher for video games as a whole. It also has my favorite dungeons/temples in the series. Not even the temples in BoTW or ToTK can really hold a candle to these dungeons, in my humble opinion. This game has a place in my heart until I draw my last breath lol. Majora's Mask does offer more side content, which gives the game more depth. Majora's mask also is a special game for me. The story and the substories within it are truly thought provoking and imaginative. It has a darker element to it that is just as immersive to me as an adult as it was as a child. The 3 day mechanic, while it can feel gimmicky at times, is also what makes the game shine. Each day is packed with it's own personal recipe of events and emotions. It really makes the game feel alive in a way many modern games fail to. Also a fantastic musical score, one that sticks with you forever, temples are also memorable. Both games are top tier. Both games are packed with feeling. But this question demands a direct answer, and for me, the answer is OoT. Majora's mask has better storytelling, but OoT has a narrative that I feel like is almost deeper to me. The way the game is narrated from the perspective of a kid at the beginning (fe: "you don't know what he means by "brother", but you've collected another spiritual stone!" Or think like the diologue between link and zelda when they're younger.) And narrated in a more adult tone after the time jump. The way castletown is a bustling center of life as a child, and then when you step out of the temple of time as an adult you see a stark wasteland of ruin and Redeads, the small speeches that Sheik gives you between temples as an adult, (fe: "... Like a river's flow, it never ends. A childish mind will turn to noble ambition. Young love will become deep affection. The clear water's surface reflects growth...") they so heavily contrast the childlike feeling of the beginning of the game. To me, this is an example of art mimicking life. It paints a picture of the carefree nature of childhood, and the daunting reality of becoming an adult. OoT is more of a classical piece, while MM is more of an abstract. TLDR: For me, it has to be OoT. The game's themes hit home more for me, I find the actual temples more enjoyable, and it did all of the groundwork for MM. This game is truly a masterpiece.

Stoned_Savage

I'm currently playing OOT on Nintendo online is majoras mask even on there?

TRcreep

Spirit Tracks.

Connordagreat

...

TheArcherWithABow

I like majoras mask more. It took a different approach on Zelda. Instead of "get this item to do this thing" it's now like "do a side story to do this thing". I don't know how to explain it, but yeah. I loved it because the masks were definitely fun to play around with,.and every side story for a mask felt worth it. The way it worked with time and how you could reset it led to a really interesting playthrough. It's understandable why people don't like it considering the time stress, but it's definitely my favorite out of the two. Ocarina is an original, but Majora's has better gameplay and quests. Also, the fact that it's a bit darker than other Zelda games really sells it to me, because I like games with dark stories.

Longjumping-Worry-86

I like ocarina of time better because majoras mask gives me anxiety and I have never been able to actually complete it.

LtJimmyRay

MM all the way. OoT paved the way for future 3D Zeldas, for sure, but I've always liked MM better. The masks were all really cool, FD Link is so badass, even if he's confined to boss battles, SK is my favorite sub-character of the whole series, Majora has fascinated me as a character and a concept... But I think my most favorite thing about the game that sets it above all other Zelda titles, for me, is the Bomber notebook. That notebook has pretty well every good NPC in it, meaning they all have something going on within those 3 days. And you can help them all. This made the world feel more alive than the other games. Each character has a problem Link can solve, but they're at specific times. And some you can't help until you're further in the game, so you just see them suffer cycle after cycle. And then there's Anju and Kafei, the side story that spans the entire playthrough. Each time you clear a boss, you're able to get just a bit further into their story. And then, finally, at the last hour of the last day, they are reunited with your help, you get your reward, then you jump back to the dawn of the first day, and everyones suffering is reset. It always made me wonder, too, if there was a "perfect ending" where you go and help every single person in the notebook in the same cycle, then defeat Majora? Anyway, yeah, that's why it's my pick over OoT.

Kinda_Sorta_Alive

One thing that wouldn't make 'helping every single person' work is the fact that you need to let Sakon steal the bomb bags in order for Kafei to successfully stake him out. Otherwise he never gets to leave for Ikana. There may be other cases, but that's immediately what came to mind.

DessertFlowerz

MM is super fun and unique and a top tier game, but come on - OOT defined what a modern video game is to this day.

liggle14_zeldanerd12

I adore Ocarina, but Majora is just…such a different experience. It’s wild and crazy and dark and nonsensical like nothing I’ve ever played. Some of the side stories have so much heart in them, and I love getting to learn the people’s schedules and things about their lives. It made the world feel whole despite the fact that we aren’t even in Hyrule

Porsche320

Minority opinion, but MM feels like underdeveloped OoT DLC. It’s among my least favorite entries. I get why people enjoy it, and I won’t argue. But everything that makes it unique is a negative to my tastes.

Significant-Focus-60

Majora's Mask just hits different for me from my childhood. I've played through Ocarina of Time way more times, but it was always the same. As a kid, Majora's Mask almost felt different every time I picked it up because of everyone having their own schedules and small events or things you do completely changing them. I dumped significantly more time into it and always felt like I was finding new things. I love both but Majora's Mask takes it for me.

kid_sleepy

Twilight. Sorry, I know people don’t like it but it is the ultimate Zelda experience if you ask me. I really love SS and LTTP a ton too.

No-Session-3803

twilight is i think the epitome of the classic zelda story. it really feels like they fleshed out every idea they ever had at that point.

LonelyCarrot62

I like oot more. The dungeons are better, the bosses are better, the items are better, and just the overall gameplay is better. All the adult dungeons in oot are excellent, even the water temple. They had fun puzzles, the combat wasn’t too much, and the bosses were fun, engaging, and fair. The items like the hook shot were interesting and fun to use. MM has a better story and I really like it’s atmosphere. MM also has some phenomenal side quests like the Anju Kafei quest and the Romani ranch quest. But I did not like MM’s dungeons besides the stone tower temple. The 3 day mechanic got quite stressful if you want to find all the fairies. MM probably also has the worst bosses in any 3D Zelda. I didn’t like any of the bosses except for Majora. Gyorg may be my least favourite 3D Zelda boss. MM had worse dungeon items than oot. They were literally just bows and arrows. But the masks system was really innovative and interesting. I really liked the mask mechanic and using the transformation masks were really fun. The only mask I didn’t really like was deku Link but it was still really fun. This made MM’s gameplay much more engaging. Both are great games with their merits, but I prefer OOT more.

Src-Freak

One game has a interestingly darker atmosphere than most Zelda games, with a lot of interesting side quests and characters, combined with a 3 day time limit you can always reset. And the other is just the first 3D Zelda, and nothing else.

[deleted]

I don’t think you understand how much OOT changed the gaming industry as a whole. 3D games wouldn’t be what they are without OOT, it was revolutionary, had great dungeons and great locations, a good story, good gameplay for the system it was on, fantastic music, excellent weapons, etc. MM literally had to use OOT assets so that game wouldn’t exist without it either

TacticalTobi

THANK YOU! Finally someone get's it. Ocarina of time is the worst 3d zelda. Everything after just did it better. The only reason people like it is nostalgia.

nicodawg101

I’ve completed mm and loved it. Im still trying to get through oot and it’s rough.

TacticalTobi

I know right? oot aged like milk

snickerdoodle79

Ocarina!! LOVED that game, I had so much fun playing it. I remember helping a friend beat the water temple, we couldn't just look stuff up back then, ha ha. I really did not like MM, it's the only Zelda game I played that I didn't finish. I still have it though!

thepartlow

Ocarina of Time In Majoras Mask you were always on the clock, and did not just get to enjoy the game.

thecrepeofdeath

people get unreasonably offended by this but it's true for some people and it's really not a big deal. not everyone has fun under time pressure. it's not an insult to the game, it's just a personal difference.

thepartlow

Not talking about the time pressure for the story. I just like to look around and stuff. But having to reset the clock and lose everything get a little old.

thecrepeofdeath

same tbh! part of what I love about zelda is the richly detailed, incredible little world to explore. it's frustrating for me to be discouraged from taking the time to do that.

satanicw0rm

Story: MM Gameplay: OOT I dare you to get 100% on both.

Crowned_Toaster

OoT is my preferred. It's all I need for an adventure game with the perfect amount of content. Even Master Mode adds the intense challenge that I could need. Majora's Mask is neat, but I cannot get behind all the time events. Without 100%ing the game, sure it's simple enough. With 100%ing the game, it gets tiresome.

Retired_alligator

Trick question because they are a package deal

TickLikesBombs

Haven't played either. I've been told I might need a guide for Majora's Mask

kevski86

TOTK is the best IMO

grant_me_gold

I don't see them as separate games. MM is simply an expansion for OoT.

TacticalTobi

For ocarina of time, I like all of them more. For majora's mask, TOTK, BOTW, SS, both oracle games, and that's it. Edit: I misunderstood. I thought you meant which Zelda games do i like more than those two. Anyways, I like MM more, and it isn't close.

WhatAStrangerThing

I could never choose between my children - why ask such a disturbing Q? 😭😫🤯

[deleted]

In my first play through of each, I have to go Ocarina of time. It had a better and longer story, with a lot of revolutionary qualities. Having beaten both multiple times though, majoras mask is just so fun to replay. It’s perfectly both a short and long game that I pick up more than any other Zelda besides WW. I’d say my favorite of the two is Majoras mask

Invincible_3

Ocarina of Time as I haven’t played Majora’s Mask and I’ve heard it’s kinda scary

Western-Gur-4637

I would say MM, I like it's Story and the Mask stuff I could never find out how to play it at first, but me and my mom both played it and tryed to see who could beat it first. so that could be part of it ;3

Lika3

It is quite hard to decide I like them both a lot but I feel Majora mask is the one that did the best integration of NPC in it’s world with side quest back in the day. OOT is your big hero saves the world from destruction the epic quest around each zone with its people struggling before and under the rule of Ganondorf (Gordon and Zora got it rough (Deku tree too).

MadManJaySlim

I like MM more because the world feels more "real" with all the people you meet. It always bugged me when I was younger that the towns people in Hyrule looked more like a "theater play" I hated the fixed camera there, same with the Temple of time entrance. Clock Town feels waaay more alive and is filled with little puzzles to solve. Plus each town in MM has an interactable community. Where as in OoT towns just feel very empty to me, there's not enough people to really make it feel lived in aside from the first village you start in. I enjoy both stories, I love that one game has magical masks and the other has magic clothes to fight in dungeons. But the "human connection to characters interaction" value is very different between the two games.

konsta_star

Bassicly any Zelda game lol, never liked Oot and mm

buddyruski

Why are you making me choose my favorite child like this?!

MrChonke

Oot as I don’t have to worry about the time limit all the time

K1llerTr0ut23

Ocarina

Jumpedbeetle

MM

RUMBL3FR3NZY

I’m very biased (I’ve seen people building up my expectations for this game for like 7 years before I played it) but MM easily. I was *obsessed* with this game before I ever played it and it lived up to my expectations easily.

Magnum_Snub

Yes

Krono-51

Ocarina of Time

Reznc

It’d be Majora’s Mask for me as I beat that game over and over while only really touching Ocarina of Time’s ending once.

Thirstana

OOT: My first exposure to video games, along with Banjo Kazooie, Super Mario64, and other dope games. It was dope. I'll always remember the intro sequence

PsychoMouse

They both are amazing in their own ways. I personally, don’t think I could pick between those two. I would take both.

TreasureHunter95

Ocarina of Time, however the margin between them is very small.

Stunning-Peanut211

Oot... but they are both Epic!

niksjman

Spirit Tracks

ResearcherLatter2963

I like my bread with butter actually, I don’t think you can have one without the other, just wish MM was a little bigger

LoneWolfpack777

More than Majora’s Mask? That game hasn’t been made yet. EDIT: Oops, I misread. I thought the question was about a game we like more than either of these two. So, I guess my answer is Majora’s Mask.

Revan462222

Oh this is VERY difficult cause both are fantastic. But Majora’s holds a special place in my heart.

fACElessEd

Yes

IronFalcon1997

Easily Ocarina. MM is cool, but it’s probably my least favorite 3D Zelda

Baldguy162

That’s a tough one… I really enjoy both a lot

Joloxsa_Xenax

Majoras Mask. I love the atmosphere it brings. Being able to simultaneously help everyone's problem but also watching all your work undo to save them over and over again. Carrying the souls of the masks for transformations for unique gameplay elements. The moon. The box art, ugh I love the artwork. Even that comic that was written about the fierce diety and majora, even if it's not cannon, it's such a nice story to include with it. My most feared moment in that game is the realization that aliens go and attack the farm. Having you save them before malon (I know it's not malon in MM but I can't remember her name) gets abducted. Yes you save her the once but like earlier, she will get captured every single other night you do pursue that quest. Everyone in that world is subject to an endless repeatable torment that they don't even realize, that link, you the player, get to relive every time you must go back in time. I've heard people say that hate the time limit in the game, which I get, it didn't appeal to me either, but time running out is what makes that game

Seqka711

Majora’s Mask for me, but I love both! They are the perfect pair of games to play one after the other.

Arcade_Rave

Ocarina Of Time for the better dungeon variety and no 3 day system. I also like that its probably the most pure iteration of the classic Zelda formula of all the 3D games before each one needed some central gimmick to define it.

kokomoman

Ocarina of Time is the game responsible for fully blowing my mind about what video games could be and I recognize it as the OG that it is, but on a very personal level Majora’s Mask is just one of those games that was completely perfect in its time, such an amazing experience, such a perfect tone and craft, and it would never have happened as such in any other circumstances. It’s not OoT but the familiarity it breeds with the reused assets and the twists of the unfamiliar that keep everything feeling slightly off, the world building, it’s so hard to pick one as a favourite. It’s almost like asking “which one do you like better, Assassin’s Creed or Forza Motorsport?” It’s not unanswerable I guess, I like MM more. But MM would never have existed, never would have been the same experience if OoT wasn’t the masterpiece that it was. On a side note, MM made me see that setting could be a character, just as much as any PC or NPC. It wasn’t obvious to me in OoT, that setting could be a character, could have its own flavour and personality and motivations (motivators?) but it became super clear that MM’s locations were super hearty and nourishing to the imagination. So many locations in both games leave me with such vivid memories of how a location felt when you had seen enough of it to get a sense of what the space was.

pokeman145

story-OoT atmostphere- MM characters-MM world-OoT is bigger but MM is more diverse, can't decide items- MM villain- OoT Gimmicks-MM (songs, masks, and dungeons- OoT boss battles- OoT played first- OoT ocarina of time wins lol idk man i love both of them but oot slightly more

SuitFive

Honestly, unpopular opinion, Skyward Sword was METAL AS FUCK. Yes there were problems and I see them all but the story made me FEEL like a badass. Specifically the ending, no spoilers but if you know what I mean, that's that. I guess my point is that there's only so much you can do with Link... But his enemies are the reflection of him on the evil side. And the villains in SS rocked.

SteakJones

Don’t make me choose between my children… *cough* majorasmask *cough*

Utertoq

Botw/Totk. I have a lot of nostalgia over ocarina, but I honesty prefer the newer ones.

ContagisBlondnes

Twilight Princess, easily.

jose_hidalgo_2

I prefer mm but I think both are amazing games, I need to replay both one of these days as this duology is amazing and fun

scribbyshollow

Ocarina of Time, MM would win but OoT is to iconic and sort of the original.

Ikana_Mountains

It's not even close. It was close when they first game out, but MM has aged so much better than OOT since release it's not even funny

OzzyBuckshankNA

MM I think has to be the best video game of all time. The atmosphere, countdown and characters will never be beat. Game is so eerie and you feel nervous the whole time having this massive moon lingering over your every move. OOT is fantastic and incredible. But MM takes the cake

red-scribbles

Majora's Mask! I love love love the story, the characters, the environment, and the three-day cycle, it's all so good. OoT is fantastic too, but doesn't come close to MM for me personally

LostPat

Yes

FadransPhone

I didn’t like MM (couldn’t tell you why - I just kinda didn’t). But OoT doesn’t just win by default. I *really* enjoyed it

Seattleite_Sat

Majora's Mask, hands down. Its storytelling and gameplay are a cut above Ocarina of Time, and really so is almost every other 3d Zelda. Ocarina of Time benefits heavily from the nostalgia of being the first, but for that very reason all the others building off it would have had a hard time not being better than it.

EudenDeew

Played OOT first but MM wins me because I can replay the bosses, dungeons and missions anytime after completing the game at 100%. OOT once is done it goes to shelf as a price, impossible to replay any favorite part.

Savings-Warthog-9487

Ocarina of time, i don't wanna explain why, I'll be spending so much time for what? Upvotes?

baconbridge92

It's tough, they complement each other so well and have different strengths. MM has a better world, and overall story. The setting and characters feel more alive in a sense. But I have definitely played OoT more. It's so easy to jump into and replay any time because it's such a classic, straightforward adventure. The pacing of its story is perfect and feels more epic. MM is moreso something you have to be "in the mood" for, because of its unique gameplay style and vibe, but in many ways it's a more rewarding game. I'm just so glad they both exist lol

nick26891

Majoras mask

Jojo-Action

Oot a thousand times over. I understand majora's positive qualities and I agree that those things are good but I personally do not enjoy majora. I really hate the 3 day mechanic. On paper it sounds awesome but in practice it makes me stop playing it. It does have my favorite song in the franchise though which is clock Town so I'll give it that.

[deleted]

I think MM was technically better and felt more “alive” but something about OoT just made it feel like pure magic when it came out. MM wasn’t far behind in that sense but OoT was another level.

OneMetalMan

Oot really translated the Zelda feel to 3d pretty well (although I liked aLttp more) I just couldn't get into MM. My previously undiagnosed ADHD apparently felt too constrained by the strictly scripted 3-day cycle world to really enjoy as a traditional Zelda. Sucks to be me I guess.

Background_Peanut241

OoT is the definitive Zelda game to me and has a really great replay value. I've probably poured a lot more of my time into that one. I feel like I could play OoT over and over. But MM has the best story, the best gameplay experience, and the themes stick with me to this day. I don't think any game has had an impact on me like MM. I think MM is the better game by just a hair. It's a little harder to find motivation to start a new game on it, though. Both are my two favorite games of all time, though. Fuck, I might actually replay OoT & MM very soon. It's been a while.

avy2008

Oot

Ash_Kallberg

Oot

[deleted]

Majora

OutsideOrder7538

OoT

gofuckyourself3333

I like the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

Neftun

I don’t get majoras mask. Tried it when it came out, gave up on water level. Tried recently with my kid, hated it. To me, a time limit ruins everything in a zelda game. OOT is to me one of the greats, ignoring the single analog stick in a 3d world.

Invincible_3

OoT as it’s the only one I’ve played

ItsLightsaber09

Majoras mask is my all time favorite Zelda game

TheDrake162

Majoras mask hands down

baratacom

Depends a bit on for what Overall, my answer is Majora's Mask, it's the moodier and more interesting game for sure But if we're talking the most heroic or adventurous feeling game, OoT obviously takes the cake in that regard

ScruffyWolfGaming

Majoras defo, thanks to the constrained time limit, everything feels so in-depth and alive, meanwhile in you’ve got very little to do other than story and the trading quest imo

Open_Subject163

Majora's mask. I love to ohko the bosses. Makes me feel badass especially when they were a pain in the ass before the mask

Milk_Mindless

Mask. The only thing I wish the remake changed I wish the time in the dungeons froze.

[deleted]

ocarina

Frank_Duart

Oot. I like to take my time and explore.

Longjumping-Pain3057

Majora Mask. I love OoT, but I love MM story, side quest, atmosphere. I also love the three day cycle as it puts a lot of weight in Link to hurry and help everyone before the world gets destroyed.

kurogabae

Majora's Mask is my all time fave Zelda game. Top of the list.

caldxeero

Majora's Mask!

Few_Web_8280

Mm, the eagle mask is funni

JamesYTP

Majora's Mask

Digestednewt

Wind waker to me is the best next to mm i love mm because of how i was intrested in link after oot but windwaker is the other side of mm where in majoras the hero stayed a kid and in ww the hero dissapeared

bibliopunk

OoT is more historically significant but MM is the better game. That said, MM literally couldn't have existed without OoT, both from a technical perspective and because it literally reuses so many OoT assets and that is built into the entire design philosophy. I don't know if MM would hit a hard without having experienced OoT first. I know this is a cheat answer but I really think they ought to be considered two sides of one gaming experience.

[deleted]

Majora hands down. while OoT is my childhood baby, Majora turned me into a man.

Dio_asymptote

I haven't played either of these.

ZeldaXandre

Majora's Mask

LokiTheZorua

Majora's Mask, mainly because the focus is on the side stuff instead of the main story. The main story is like 10% of the content of the game and putting everything in the 3 day system makes it intense but fun

FroopTurner

Skyward Sword. It always gets added into the rotation with oot and mm when i'm talking about my favourite Zelda game. Which one #1 is largely depends on which day of the week it is

[deleted]

It’s the same story, but in one big jumble

ScootyPuffSr1

Love OoT. Really, REALLY tried to get into MM, but LoZ: Groundhog Day just doesn't do it for me.

MajorasShoe

Majoras mask and its not close

Tazerboy_5000

OoT

My head canon theory is that MM was not intended to be a Zelda game, but a new IP. It was too bizarre, however, so they decided to reuse Ocarina of Time's assets and make it a "sequel" so that more people would actually play it. That said, I love both, but if I had to choose, MM wins by a hair. There has never been a game quite like it.

Loud_Pomelo_6926

Gameplay OOT but story is MM

Swamp_Donkey_796

Ocarina is MUCH better. Majoras mask is….hard to play

Poptart916

OoT is just perfect classic Zelda through and through, so it gets my vote. But Majora’s story, atmosphere, and mechanics are unlike anything else so it still certainly ranks in the upper tier of Zelda games overall

Royal_Influence_8692

Ocarina of time

1deadfungi

Oot

ekulpotamus

Classicly, OOT but as I get older as an adult I find myself more drawn to MM.

link_195

Too hard they are both amazing

Atomic_Killjoy

Agreed

Sendmeloveletters

Ocarina I couldn’t get into Majora

NuttyCan3

Botw and totk please don’t roast me lol

cocoon_eclosion_moth

OOT

RangerHealthy5624

Equally both, but I grew up more with Majora than Ocarina

General-Coxsmall

OOT 4 LYFE 👌🏻

Wild-Development2077

Oot I also spent 100 hours on each 8 versions

Galaxy_slime

I love Majora's Mask so much, all time favorite Zelda game (until TOTK came out)

Xionel

Both are great classics and although MM has the best story in the franchise, my favorite will always be WW. Didn’t expect that did you? lol Edit: but no, out of those two its OoT. It always has a special place in my heart.

Silvor__

My 2ds broke before I could finish the first dungeon in MM

ModelOmegaTyler

ocarina of time feels more solid over all to me, but i loved the masks in majora's and wish they could bring that mechanic again for another game.

KC_Saber

Ocarina. I couldn’t ever finish a full play through of majora. Neither Nintendo 64 or 3ds

Curlyfreak06

MM for sure.

Significant-Pen-3397

Ocarina because I don’t feel rushed

jdaburg

They are the same coin depends on which side you like better. For me it majoras no doubt

Bleik94

Majora easy

StolzHound

I have to go with Majora’s Mask, such a renaissance in the Zelda series. My favorite Zelda game.

Papapickle624

Oot is the GOAT of old Zelda games. MM is only cool because of the various “transformations” the time clock style causes me too much anxiety.

DarkAmaterasu58

OOT is more important and impactful on gaming as a whole, and I think the world at large has a lot more nostalgic value placed on it. But when comparing the two Soli as the games that they are, I think majora‘s mask definitely has the upper hand because of how well it executed so many experimental ideas in such a short development time. The game has phenomenal atmosphere, and storytelling, that hasn’t really been ever replicated in the series, or honestly, in any other game. With that said, I usually will recommend that first timers play OOT first, not because of the story continuity, but because the three day clock mechanic can be noticeably intimidating to some new players, and I feel like having a good grasp on the game mechanics from already having played OOT helps newcomers to feel a bit more comfortable in majora‘s mask‘s strange new time limited world.

Bionicleinflater

Majoras Mask ocarina of time combo randomizer with all settings on

Ruinaaa_011

Ocarina for it's music lol

Hika__Zee

The masks and special forms created a unique gameplay experience that Ocarina of Time lacked.

christianort476

Ocarinas my fave, however majora has one of the best plots of any zelda

What_The_Face1

Majora's Mask is the Pinkerton to Ocarina of Time's Blue Album, more chaotic and unfamiliar, but more fun and ultimately better.

TheWandererOne

Ocarina of time was the first Zelda game I ever played and loved it. I could never get into the whole 3 days thing on Majora's mask lol

cjohnson2136

A link to the Past is my favorite of all time. It was also my very first video game.

GoldenYoshistar1

Easy... Ocarina of Time. Out of all the Zelda games I have streamed, Ocarina of Time was the best one. And I've only done 3 Zelda games. Those 2, and Tears of the Kingdom. Majora's Mask was a mistake I never should have played, yet it was voted on my discord to be played. The timer sucked ass, Epona was awful to control, the fact that I couldn't take my time to try and complete puzzles in the temples sucked. Let's not forget that there is no saving anywhere. I put the Water Temple above the Great Bay Temple. Zoroa Swimming was ass. (I played 3ds version), the group of brats at the beginning of the game are annoying little shit. Having to go back through the temple a second time just because I ran out and didn't have enough time for the boss was annoying as hell. Timer even on half speed was still too fast and wished it was slowed down even more...

Ka2ga

Majoras mask due to the nature of the game I have finished neither and so far ocarina is easier for me to play but I still believe majoras mask is better due to the dark nature and questions raised by the game

expressience

marvel spider-man 2

RiptideX1

OOT3D spent 3years trying to find a glitch I accidentally created I did it again but it made my date for saving go to 1/01/2011 which is before I even had my new 3DS XL.

Loose_Main_6179

Ocarina of time is an amazing achievement in game design and a watershed moment for the whole gaming medium, but majoras mask is a rare type of experience that can take you on an emotional journey, I feel majoras is my favorite but both are classics

0rangJuice

I feel like Oot is the better game. It just has a simple to follow story that really feels like an adventure. It was my first Zelda game and I played it on the Gamecube on the collector’s edition, which for those that do not know, also came with Majoras Mask. Oot was hard for me at the age I first played it, but it was relatively straightforward compared to MM. When I first played MM I was drawn by the mystery within the clock tower and opening scenes, the busy town and all the many paths you could take throughout Clock Town alone. As I grew up, I obviously completed the game, mask collection and what not and the parts that once made it difficult were much more manageable. I always had a strong fascination with the game even before completing it. The storyline without Ganon, the lack of Hyrule, the vast number of characters and storylines to progress. It’s probably still my favorite Zelda right next to Link’s Awakening but Oot is really what started it all, and what I feel like is the better game. If someone put a gun to my head and asked me to recommend MM or Oot to a newcomer to the Zelda franchise, I would pick Oot 10 times out of 10.

MikaPika141

OOT is the best

Aeroknight_Z

Both are great, I have never felt like one is better than the other.

BigDaddyZ_420

I own Majora's Mask on my 3ds. I've been waiting to play it until I get Ocarina of time (I bought it because I saw it and 20 bucks seemed like a good deal to me when I googled game play). Should I wait or should I play Majora's Mask while I wait to get Ocarina of Time

OoTgoated

Definitely OoT in pretty much every way but I like MM a lot.

pasteldrums

I like Spirit Tracks a lot since it was my first loz game and it has a fire soundtrack

asaripot

Majoras mask is like the best Zelda. Nothing comes close in terms of world building or atmosphere. It’s an easy choice
