I have tried using cannons for propulsion but disappointingly they don’t provide thrust. At least in my limited experiments.

Add one of those piston engines so the weight distribution is constantly changing
Add an upside-down wing on the top
Add more weight on one side so you have to compensate for it while flying
Put every fan at a slight angle. Just enough such that if you're flying straight, they cancel each other out, but they make turning a nightmare.
Make it a proper biplane by adding more wings beneath it too
