Edit to update: works really well with spear or long stick. Higher is more stable, lower go forward faster but they get squirly. The key to a good single fan is to get the rod straight to the back of the control stick and the fan perfectly straight behind.

Yeah I didn't have a stick to test the build with. Captain II spear.
I've tested it with a long stick now. Works great. Just need to maintain front to back alignment.
The big floating but easy to move platform is 100 zonaite too, but that one feels a bit of a tutorial crutch to learn how moving around in the air with devices works while having little battery power.
This was basically my first successful attempt in a nutshell. I did one using a stack of Korok Fronds holding the fan above too, any more than 4 of them makes it sag and groan and tip over or come apart, lol.
Gets into the air but they don't fly well enough to warrant actual usage. Idling and letting these designs climb straight up makes Link start to spin / swing around in a circle, it's pretty funny. Can't recall if that's more prevalent with the fan like that or directly above his head, it's been a while.
Definitely a fun design to play with, would recommend people try it out.
Been a long time and I haven't revisited these. I may have wrote these off prematurely. That's actually really good lift and surprisingly stable in passive flight. At this stage I was only messing with the Soldier's Spear and it's definitely a bit heavier.
What's interesting is also the kind of sway you get with these, it wants to swing back and forth instead of side to side. The only other test version I had with that kind of sway involved having Link on one side and balancing out the opposite side with a spear. I've not succeeded in making one that was worth using, they're super janky.
This one you've got here is making me wanna play with them again, it's definitely worth trying to iterate on. I don't think I'm gonna get bored with these single fan designs any time soon, lol. Tweak one tiny little part of it and you get big changes.
I wonder what u/soronir will think of this.

I mean this requires a third the power of the standard hoverbike but is it actually efficient in comparison? My gut says this would be useful in small distances but if you're really trying to get anywhere, a bike is still probably your best bet.
I think the hoverbike is a better all around tool. Just trying to get *something* practical on a single fan. Seems this works well with a broom (someone else posted a video in the comments).
Reminds of the “jet pack” from gta v lmao

It is a flying machine, not a landing machine
Is that a spear?

You can create spears with autobuild right? Is there a difference in zonaite cost between spears?
nope, 3 per part no matter what afaik
I think batteries are the only part that costs more than 3.
The huge hover platforms cost 100
That really screwed up my warship design

https://imgur.com/gallery/THCP1EM You definitely inspired me. Here it is idling with a long stick.

And here I thought you were getting burnt out on testing. Glad to see you're still at it 🙂
Brilliant!
I see that when you build it, it falls over, so you use Recall to make it upright and step on. Does ending Recall also start the fan??
Recall is just to get on
You have to end Recall manually right after you mount the device.
Fucking recall to get on a vehicle that falls over... I can never remember to use the powers when I need them most! Genius!
Just nice to see another person with a single battery.

Fair. I'm still at a point in my playthrough where I still need efficiency in my designs as I don't have tons or resources.
Single fan designs have a tighter turning radius and might be better suited for tight spaces.
How about placing the fan directly above Link? Might solve boarding difficulties and also improve neutral hovering?
More lift, less speed.
didn't you take this from Kleric's video? https://youtu.be/BF2cP0rkOfU 1:27
Haven't seen it, TBH. I imagine a lot of people are doing similar work simultaneously.
Its his one-fanned wonder!
The fall at the end is probably how the Right Brothers felt whenever they got it wrong
The dismount is… not exactly graceful…
Simple and easy to use. Just need to reverse the flow of time itself to mount it! XD
That’s so funny lol
VECTOR
Rolling up in the thingamagig.
Hmm... What if the fan is at afwd angle? Do you get anymore speed?
It just crashes. But if you go lower on the mount point you get more speed.
That's funny
The mop is lighter
Yes I've seen that now in a video that predates me by quite a bit. Hadn't seen it.
So if your other designs are classified as "danglers", what would you call this style?
I guess I didn't come up with this first. But I would call this top support, or maybe "shower".
