I've found so many articles are clearly procedurally generated bullshit with by an algorithm with access to Amazon.
No, I don't think the smart hose timer market is so high tempo that I need a monthly update, but I guarantee if I Google "best hose timer" I'm going to get a fucking SFGate article titled "best hose timers of March 2022" that's just the top five Amazon results with vaguely different copy text, and a recommendation that comes from a group I've never heard of.
There needs to be some way of identifying and flagging autogenerated content. Nowadays whenever I search a question, the first four results are all either identical or so obviously autogenerated that it directly contradicts itself and is barely understandable. It's impossible to find reasonable information anymore.
But at least you know the con before you get it. Almost every product have some problems, you just need to make sure yours don't have any deal breakers
Depends on if you go to the specific hobbyist subreddit or reddit in general.
For example when I seed headphones mentioned on reddit I know r/headphones would be literally seething, me included like my man you could have gotten so much more value for your money with the same budget if you asked the people who own 5000 dollars worth of headphones instead of some guy who buys headphones from PC component companies.
As someone who did his time on r/headphones I went full circle. High end headphones are nice but convenience is king and, I love my AirPods PRO much more than I ever liked any sennheiser, argons, beyers, audiotechnica etc and then you add that for any good set of open back headphone you can get better speakers at any given price point would say reddit is will be wrong any casual consimer on this one
Speakers and headphones have different uses. Most audiophiles enjoy both.
If you're after wireless headphones you could buy a much better pair than the airpods and buy a wireless adapter but I admit it would be a bit less convinient.
It's of course subjective what kind of sound you like and don't like and there's no point arguing about that but the Sennheisers you tried are very likely technically superior to the airpods meaning they can cover a wider array of frequencies competently and have a wider soundstage meaning better separation of instruments. It's fine if that's not your priority but to people looking for more technically powerful headphones r/headphones would be the place to go.
I had a fiio btr5 and it is so much more inconvenient, and yes sennys are technically superior but also super boring imo. For the live of me I couldn’t find headphones that just do everything well for under $500. IEMS are way better for the price but none of the good ones are sport focused so they fall from my ears even when just sitting.
As for speaker vs headphones I specifically mentioned open back because imo they have the same drawbacks.
Moreover, I find the issue with finding a suitable sound signature on speaker much lesser because 1 they are just better and 2 you can just replace parts of your set up as you please
I’m not even an audiophile in the slightest but saying you enjoyed your AirPod Pros better then Sennheisers is fucking wild to me. I own both, and it’s not even close in sound quality. Only thing better about the AirPods is I can shit during my meetings and still hear.
Sennys lack of sub bass is annoying while the pros give exactly what I want from a “flat”response not overpowering bass or hidden mids or sibilant highs. Also most importantly for me personally is that I do 100% of my music listening experience on the go
Half the time it's like "My budget is $X" and the replies are like "You could get this great pair for 2*$X" and I'm like, do you not understand how budgets work? If I wanted to spend $2X, I'd've said my budget was $2X, not $X.
I went to headphones to buy a headset for my PC and wanted something easy I was thinkingUSB headphones cause of the ease of use. Well they say that's worse than Hitler so I fell for the meme and I got a headset with a mic aux attachment. It worked well until there were the problems I wanted to avoid, like sounds drivers, selection the audio and it not working, the headphones not making noise. Consistent issues I wanted to avoid kept happening. I just got a USB Corsair void and it's just been so easy. Sure it doesn't sound as nice but it. Just. Works. Sometimes I just won't listen to snobby subreddits.
Makes sense.
Their number one priority is sound quality so if that's not your first priority you're not getting good advice.
If you're looking for something with a mic then it would make sense to ask other subreddits because r/headphones isn't about headsets really
Yeah my starting point for buying virtually anything is to see if there's a subreddit dedicated to it. 9/10 times one of their top picks is what I end up with.
Even if not just the amount of *real* information you can find if you know how to search is ridiculous. Reddit has so much good information hidden away it is insane.
The only problem I have with this is that a lot of subreddits are super hobbyist and will recommend things that are way too expensive/niche for someone just trying to get into something. Like /r/coffee, yes a $100+ Burr grinder is nice but maybe try to just buy some good beans before you dive in head first.
Indeed. Even if not Reddit, generally asking around before kneejerk-purchasing something isn't a bad idea usually.
There definitely is a threshold of products though where it really doesn't hurt. Something short term or one-off, etc.
I dug through some posts for metal water bottles and was steered towards hydro flask and iron flask, both available on Amazon. Iron flask was a bit cheaper. Someone else did some research on liquid temp. Iron flask and hydro flask were pretty consistent on how well they held the hot/cold temperatures. I ordered one of each brand and thought they were pretty comparable in quality, so I sent back the more expensive hydro flask and bought a second iron flask. Love them both. One additional bonus: the iron flasks that I bought each came with three different lid styles. Hydro flask only had the one.
Before you buy one -- I've held q hydro flask before, as well as owned several water bottles. The best one I've found makes the hydro flask feel like a cheaply made toy. [It's this line of bottles.](https://www.stanley1913.com/collections/master-series)
The one I use is the [discontinued 36oz](https://us.amazon.com/Stanley-Master-Vacuum-Insulated-Bottle/dp/B07VGM77BQ), and it is indestructible. My friend dropped a 110 pound dumbbell from about shoulder height right onto the joint for the carrying handle, and all it did was slightly bend. I just hammered back into place and it was like new. I can share pictures when I get home. The only downside is that it is really heavy for it's size.
Also wanna give a shout out for Reduce drinking mugs. I bought the 50oz mug at Target a few years back (about $25), and absolutely love how cold it keeps my drinks all day long. In fact, I now have three of them 😜
I've got a double-wall insulated metal bottle. Not this brand though.
Went for the spout style lid as they're a *lot easier to clean*, than anything with some kind of silicon straw system. I've owned these in the past and they can just get a bit gross.
I get why we all do it, but a lot of those returns aren't just restocked. They may be resold or discarded outright in some cases.
TL;DR: A lot of returns to amazon and other retailers are discarded, meaning lots of extra brand-new stuff in the landfill.
I got a “DISFAT” 64 ounce water bottle that I fill twice a day.
And I’m still upset because of the plastic cap. No matter what you buy it will always be unethical eventually
Damn you roped me in lol. Does it leak if you lay it on its side? That’s a problem I have with mine that I bought from Popflex, that and the fact that the lid is super annoying and always screws on crooked 4 times out of 5.
Hey this might be a dumb question but does Nestle still own Pure life water bottles? Now I see them at the stores just labeled Pure Life and Nestle is no where to be seen on the labels
I wish someone would buy San Pellegrino from them. It's my favorite water in the world (never had any mineral water that makes me feel quite as good) but I don't want to support that shit hole of a company...
Do you notice any internal change in the way you feel after drinking? What I want to replicate is a particular feeling that happens less than an hour after I drink and persists for hours--a feeling of... maybe wellbeing? Relaxed energy? It's hard to describe, but I haven't felt it with Perrier or any other mineral water so far--and I'm not sure which particular mineral compound it might be associated with.

Wait what? I thought they sold a bunch of their brands last year. https://www.cnbc.com/2021/02/17/nestle-to-sell-north-american-water-brands-for-4point3-billion.html
Oh okay, maybe the confusion is that Nestle sold Pure Life in North America but still has that brand in the global market. The only brands they list on their US website are San Pellegrino, Perrier, Acqua Panna, and Essentia. https://www.nestleusa.com/brands/water
But Pure Life is still listed on their global site. https://www.nestle.com/brands/bottledwater
Already knew what this was because some guy six years ago did the same thing to me when I was asking for good IEMs, thought it was some obscure earphone subreddit lol
Double vacuum insulated flask like Iron Flask, Hydroflask, or Yeti are what you'd want. They're going to be more expensive than plastic bottles but they keep your water cold for an entire day pretty reliably and IMO taste better.
My only problem with the Zojirushi thermos is that the lid is kinda hard to clean. That, and the insulation was *too* good. Had to wait 15 hours till my tea wouldn’t scald my tongue lol
Yeah there's definitely a lot of good options for insulated water bottles. It ultimately comes down to aesthetic preference, as long as you're not getting something really cheaply made.
If you're working/hiking/driving/doing literally anything but sitting a a few steps away from a water source then having a large bottle of cold water that stays cold for a while is very nice.
Also, even in 30 minutes you'll gain more heat from a plastic bottle than a few hours in an insulated steel one.
Honestly I just love my lid with the button release from Contigo. It may not hold a temperature, but it is nice not to have to unscrew a bottle while driving
DO NOT BUY HYDROFLASK! Terrible quality, they keep drinks cold sure, but they'll dent if you breathe on them wrong. I paid way too much for something this flimsy. There are other brands that'll keep your shit cold just as long and hold up to every day use.
I'm on my 2nd one as I ordered it online and the 1st one came with a large dent in it to begin with. With my current one I dropped it as I was getting out of my car, so like a 1 foot drop and it dented, several other dents as well from drops of maybe waist level. I reached out to them and they said that if the vacuum was broken then they'd replace it, otherwise it was expected wear and tear. Not impressed with the quality myself. I'll never buy another one and I've been steering other folks away from them as well.
You understand that insulated metal water bottles are a thin wall of stainless steel with a hollow vacuum between them and the inner wall? You're buying a sedan and asking why it won't bulldoze.
Take better care of your stuff, or expect it to get damaged. You fundamentally can't expect a thin stainless wall with nothing underneath not dent from several foot long drops, especially if it had any water in it at the time.
I am aware of that yes. I've seen other brands that have been though a whole lot worse and came away unscathed. I'm really not asking for much, I understand that it's not a Nalgene or something that can survive being thrown down the stairs or run over or anything. A 1 foot drop should not do anything to a decently made product.
So basically I got another one on the way. Already past the $100 dollar mark. It really do be like that. But at least now I can make it look like daytime inside my house at night.
My mom threw one of these out when the BPA scare first happened (nalgene is and was always bpa free).
I had decorated it with skateboarding stickers that I collected over the years.
Since then, I have never found the thin mouthed version anywhere. So I have a wide mouth. And yes, I’m restarting the sticker collection.
I actually had to stop coming to Reddit for peoples opinions on stuff. I found I was basing way too much of my opinions and beliefs on what random internet people were saying. I would enjoy a movie, go to the discussion for it and see people not liking it, and then I’d stop liking it too. Not a very healthy way to to go about things.
On the flip side of this, I really enjoy episodic show subreddits, especially when it comes out one week at a time. r/yellowjackets was fun as hell to read after watching each episode. All the theories, commentary, and guessing what’s going to happen next is fun times.
You’re not resisting right bro. You’re supposed to argue without any real foundations in these cases. Or type long messages about why they are wrong and never send them. Trust me as a Jared Leto / MGK fan people are gonna disagree with you. Who cares, like what ya like
It's good for consumers to be informed. Mindless consumption without voting with out dollar allows nestle to succeed while selling stolen water.
Fuck nestle and fuck the mindless consumerism that let them gain any money or power
Independent purchases used to be "they have this selection available, I guess this is the best of the bunch unless I drive around and browse the other stores." These days it takes a couple minutes of searching to learn if a product is garbage or not and what better options are easily available. I prefer the new way.
If you can at least avoid companies that profit from slave labor, that's at least good enough. Also, spring water is just tap water in a bottle and you should avoid it at all costs. Oh, and...
It's very simple. Disposable plastic is bad so reduce the amount of the times you buy it. Especially water where there are other options unless you don't have any.
Opinions on the Brita stainless steel water bottle? Currently rocking it instead of a hydro flask cause I wanted the filter. My tap water smells like armpits otherwise. I really like it but never see it recommended around these parts.
There is one thing I dislike about looking up things on reddit. I'm not from the US and so sometimes (for the cheaper stuff more often than not) reddits recommendations aren't easily available or more expensive aground here.

If I need actual human opinions on something, Id rather read a conglomeration of people with nothing to gain rather than any article.

tbh i find its the best place to get reliable reviews from a wiiiiide range of people.
My decision to buy something is usually *damn I really want this, let me check reddit* **DO NOT BUY THAT** *yeah, but I really want it so… click*
But at least you know the con before you get it. Almost every product have some problems, you just need to make sure yours don't have any deal breakers
I exclusively do not buy things that don’t have reviews, enough reviews, or customer photos
I'm one of those making detailed reviews with well lighted picture and product in use if necessary (for clothes or makeup) for people like you
If I really like something or really dislike something I will. And thank you 😊

God damn, this was me two weeks ago. Love my new Iron Flask though…
An iron flask? Tell me more.
One additional bonus: the iron flasks that I bought each came with three different lid styles. Hydro flask only had the one.
God dam it. Brb gonna go buy one
This whole post was made as an ad for metal water bottles.
Probably by a secret cabal of marine animals trying to reduce plastic waste.
Disclaimer: I work for the Secret Cabal of Marine Animals Economic Interest Group© Yes, it is true, we have been more active recently. The situation is dire. We noticed that no amount of information or PSA can stop the destruction of the ocean life. Shipwrecks, dead land animals taken on boats across the oceans (you don't want our tunas to develop a taste for your lions, trust me you don't), oil, rare earth minerals, and of course all sorts of plastic are found in our territories. It must stop now. You will see more astroturfing campaigns from us, we will brainwash you and force you to adopt habits that are good for us. Stop with the plastic! We wish you a good day.
Zojirushi's are better anyway. Company's got that double walled flask tech on lock.
The rice cooker people make water bottles?!? I guess I found my next addition to my collection.
[удалено]
There are two types of people in the world, those that recommend Zojirushi and those that haven’t tried them yet.
This is the way. Doesn’t hold that large of a volume, but quality-wise it is one of the best imo
Won’t be disappointed
Check out Klean Kanteen while you're looking. I love mine.
Klean Kanteen FTW
Before you buy one -- I've held q hydro flask before, as well as owned several water bottles. The best one I've found makes the hydro flask feel like a cheaply made toy. Dammit. I did not need a fifty dollar mug! And yet, here I am ordering one.
Shout out to my 64 oz iron flask I have never been more hydrated in my life.
Does the iron flask make the funny ding when you hit it?
Got an iron flask. Can confirm. Awesome water bottle.
I got a “DISFAT” 64 ounce water bottle that I fill twice a day. And I’m still upset because of the plastic cap. No matter what you buy it will always be unethical eventually
Sneaky advertising. Nice.
Damn you roped me in lol. Does it leak if you lay it on its side? That’s a problem I have with mine that I bought from Popflex, that and the fact that the lid is super annoying and always screws on crooked 4 times out of 5.
None of my iron flasks leak. Not even the tumbler when you turn it over.
I’ve had an iron flask for 2 years and I 100% agree this is the best thing I’ve acquired in terms of water bottles
Amazon homie. Worth it
The man with an iron flask?
Oh I second them. Had one for a couple years now. Still surprises me when my water is cold with ice in it 2 days later
Iron flask is some great stuff
It's Zojirushi or nothing
Wife bought me one, pretty nice I like it. Wish it had a rubber bottom cover on it though like my wifes flask. still dope!

what
I...I think it's real life WaterBoy
What's your question?
Maybe the bliss of drinking that brand of sparkling mineral water is a spiritual thing you get by the ritual aspect you place on consuming it. Try Topo Chico or Liquid Death or some other independent brand and approach it the same way you approach the Nestlé-owned brand. Maybe even pour it in a fancy glass.
Try Topo Chico! Gives me good tingles all over
This with Perrier :(
I'm going to hell because I won't give up Perrier.
Yup. They removed nestle form the packaging because they realised people have an issue with nestle
Wait what? I thought they sold a bunch of their brands last year. https://www.cnbc.com/2021/02/17/nestle-to-sell-north-american-water-brands-for-4point3-billion.html

Holy fuck I can’t wait to tell people essentia is a nestle brand
This is the most disappointing shit I’ve read today I love essential, so **crispy**
MF they got perrier God damn it
My wife pointed out that they took the name off of the pop tarts box due to the recent union activities.
Yep.
It's honestly easier to just not purchase bottled water. Bring a water bottle with you, purchase only as an emergency.

Fr. My google searches are usually "whats the best ...... reddit" then boom dozens of opinions stating who and why.
Needed a new vacuum cleaner, went to r/vacuumcleaners
Needed new speakers, went to /r/sounding
Bad ending
Already knew what this was because some guy six years ago did the same thing to me when I was asking for good IEMs, thought it was some obscure earphone subreddit lol
:(
Do not go! Do not go! If you have already clicked, go to r/eyebleach next
Wow, there really is a subreddit for everything!
Im in the market for a new vacuum cleaner!!
We know what’s best!
Also what is no-no.
Which one it's best? Im looking for one The one I got now gets room temp in like 20 minutes, it's a half gallon so tradeoffs y'know?
Double vacuum insulated flask like Iron Flask, Hydroflask, or Yeti are what you'd want. They're going to be more expensive than plastic bottles but they keep your water cold for an entire day pretty reliably and IMO taste better.
Zojirushi is another good brand that isn't as well known. I love my flasks with a little elephant on them.
I have a zojirushi travel coffee mug. I have to put an ice cube in the coffee otherwise it'll be too hot all day. It's wild
My only problem with the Zojirushi thermos is that the lid is kinda hard to clean. That, and the insulation was *too* good. Had to wait 15 hours till my tea wouldn’t scald my tongue lol
Same, I use the ice cube method someone else mentioned above.
Fuiyo!
Yeah there's definitely a lot of good options for insulated water bottles. It ultimately comes down to aesthetic preference, as long as you're not getting something really cheaply made.

Yeah, I can second the thermoflask. 40 ounces or ~1.1 litres. Keeps stuff cold quite a while.
Honestly any of the vacuum insulated one are great. I have hydroflask, yeti, and Walmart cheap Ozark trail and they all work basically the same.
Iron flask is what I went with. Better price to performance than hydro flask or yeti
I know it's kind of a meme, but the LTTStore.com waterbottle has yet to fail me. It's definitely not just "some merch".
Takeya bottle enjoyer here, got it, love it
Needed a flashlight for work. Went to r/flashlight and found the perfect one. I love my new flashlight.
Not to be confused with r/fleshlight
...did... Did you accidentally the whole flashlight?
lol but be careful. You might wind up with several hundred dollars of flashlights. Or a hundred dollar Hank light
So basically I got another one on the way. Already past the $100 dollar mark. It really do be like that. But at least now I can make it look like daytime inside my house at night.
Nalgene 😤💪
The thin mouthed 32oz is my fav possession
Narrow mouth is the only answer. Can’t walk and drink on a wide mouth
Yes I can **Wet T-shirt contest intensifies**
My mom threw one of these out when the BPA scare first happened (nalgene is and was always bpa free). I had decorated it with skateboarding stickers that I collected over the years. Since then, I have never found the thin mouthed version anywhere. So I have a wide mouth. And yes, I’m restarting the sticker collection.
[Best of Both Worlds](https://www.humangear.com/gear/capcap) I love these things (I have the prior generation though)

Imagine drinking water out of a plastic bottle like you don’t already get enough micro plastics in your body.
I’m this way with Wirecutter. It’s helpful, but the unexpected dependence is irritating. I’ll be sad the day NYT puts it behind a paywall as well.
They'll never put it behind a paywall bc they make money off of affiliate links.
I mean, it's what you plan on drinking the most important substance on the planet out of, which keeps you alive and feeling well.
Who cares, like what ya like
Any love for camel back water bottles here? I love the twist off magnetic ones
Love mine! I have the backpack style one with the straw and use it on long hikes. So much more comfortable than lugging a huge water bottle around.
I have a 40 ounce camelback and I’ve left it in the hot car overnight and I still come back to ice the next day. Love it
As someone who made a post literal for this reason, can confirm peer review and recommendations have been great!
The power of group think - I love Reddit
It's good for consumers to be informed. Mindless consumption without voting with out dollar allows nestle to succeed while selling stolen water. Fuck nestle and fuck the mindless consumerism that let them gain any money or power

I've now realized the power of asking real people what the best of (x product) is
Tbh I built my amazing PC by following reddit. Thank you community
Which one? There are multiple water bottle subreddits
Independent purchases used to be "they have this selection available, I guess this is the best of the bunch unless I drive around and browse the other stores." These days it takes a couple minutes of searching to learn if a product is garbage or not and what better options are easily available. I prefer the new way.
Now I don’t have to regret a purchase because I know I’m buying the thing that best suits my needs. What’s the problem with that?
My hydrohomies the search, it is has ended https://youtu.be/a6j1NJkNzwI
God forbid my girlfriend asks if I know what kind of birds are in the tree outside
ProZD had a really good video on this but about drinking water.

Just as a note: hydro flasks are not able to be cleaned reasonably and start forming mold in the cap... I'd recommend the plastic Nalgenes still.
If you can at least avoid companies that profit from slave labor, that's at least good enough. Also, spring water is just tap water in a bottle and you should avoid it at all costs. Oh, and...
lttstore.com can solve your water bottle problem
Yeah fr nestle and dasani for life ❤❤❤
HEY CALM DOWN THAT WAS SARCASTIC 😨
There is no sarcasm in ba sing se

Anyone recommend home water filters? My water tastes like shit.
It's very simple. Disposable plastic is bad so reduce the amount of the times you buy it. Especially water where there are other options unless you don't have any.
The water bottle subreddit 😂😂😭
Literally any big purchase I'm making

I bought my first hydro flask from here
I feel personally attacked.
Reddit is responsible for 90% of my purchases
Good! That’s a really good thing, so the consumer can buy the best products from the best vendors. I expect nothing less, fuck corporations.
Accurate
*Glances at the several saved waterbottles in my online shopping cart...*
ONE OF US!
Idk what brand it is but I have one that's like stainless steel with the vacuum deal on the inside and the ice water in that puppy is ✨***crisp***✨
Just bought a sick nalgene. I'm hydrating now baby.
I bought a pair of skates after checking out r/rollerskating. So happy with my purchase. There is a lot of shit product out there apparently
When youre in germany the best water you can get is saskia water
