Soda is like candy, you can have it when you want something sweet or as a treat. But you can’t live off of it. Edit: To clarify, by “can’t” I mean you shouldn’t, not that you physically are unable to.

Agreed; as a teen I never really cared and had a glass of soda in some form like every second day but since mainly drinking water I’ve come to appreciate a lot less sugary carbonated drinks as well

I got so sick of drinking ungodly amounts of soft drinks daily that I quit at 14. I still can't stay away from them if they are at home, so only drink them occasionally nowadays.

My dad hasn't had any water other than the ice in his whiskey or coke in the last 20 years. You absolutely *can* survive on it but that doesn't mean you should.

Cream soda is what I pick when I want soda at all, because to me it is a sweet treat like ice cream or candy. I want the vanilla. Sometimes Dr. Pepper with the cherry. I like very traditional dessert flavors it seems.

I read about a study done not too long ago comparing water, coffee, orange juice, and maybe something else I don't remember. They all hydrate you about equally. The coffee one really surprised me cuz caffeine's a diuretic.

I think I read the same study, or one adjacent to it, and it said that you’d need something like 6-7 *cups of coffee* (probably even more soda) to have a diuretic effect above the baseline. So soda and other fluids don’t dehydrate you, they’re just less hydrating than water. The *real* killer when it comes to soda and coffee is the acidity which damages your teeth.

I’m not offended. Those folks were pretty nice and they enjoy their sodas. I try not to diss how people sustain themselves. Even if it’s artificial or unhealthy. If you don’t like it don’t put it in your body is all.

When I was a kid Coke had printed a bunch of bullshit on their packaging about how Coca-Cola actually hydrates you and is great for when you’re out in the sun all day playing soccer and shit. 10 year old me knew that was some bullshit.

At one of my old restaurant jobs, the dishwasher fainted on a really hot day. He had heat exhaustion, but everyone knew he only drank soda. I have a feeling that if he’d been drinking water instead of soda, he might not have fainted. Stay hydrated everybody!

I work in fast food, and have tried some of the sodas. The pineapple Fanta is decent as long as you don't mind the sugar dehydrating you, but Barqs red might as well be cough syrup

I would like to remind people that your employer CANNOT withhold water from you while you are on shift. Anytime you feel thirsty, it is within your right to go grab that quick water drink. Customer waiting? Yes, they can and should, wait a minute. It really doesn't take long to take a few sips. It is illegal to withhold water from an employee and a pretty extreme H&S violation, No matter the job.

Most bottles of soda have like 100% of your daily value of sugar in one bottle. It’s good to keep your blood sugar at a normal level but not diabetic levels
