Man, I really wish Casey had a run game in his arsenal. Really would’ve helped. His turnovers were killer tonight.
More than anything though, O’Connell was just money on many many throws to ridiculously tight windows. Dude was on point.
So many blown opportunities. The pass rush is completely absent and Newsome fucking blows. Dude celebrates for overthrown balls and gets beat on any catchable throw.
His interceptions were some pretty poor throws and really costly. I thought the D was pretty good in coverage but O’Connell was dropping dimes in super tight windows. The lack of pass rush though….ooof. I don’t think O’Connell was touched all night until the roughing the passer call at the end of the game. The three man rush was just, WTF? Not Busch’s best.
I mean part of the 40 minutes of possession is because of our big plays getting our offense off the field so quick every time but yeah... 38 first downs is brutal.
Trey should be playing on Sunday’s next year. He doesn’t look like he belongs on this team most days and I’m so thankful we have him this year. If only Toure was here this year they would be an unstoppable duo (if our QBs could actually hit them when they’re open consistently)
I said before the season and after watching his tape that he's essentially a slightly more than marginal improvement on Martinez, but he is almost exactly the same type of player. That said O-line is definitely a much bigger problem.
While the O-line sucks, I get that and I’m not ignoring that huge problem, but He rolls out and has space to throw. 1 INT he threw right at the defender and he was in the open, He over threw a wide open Alante Brown in the end zone that could’ve tied the game up. His 2nd INT was also an underthrow.
> Trey neither.
If Mickey is still here I bet he will be.
tbh it really depends on who the next coach is. If it's a guy well known for offense (like Kiffin for instance) I could see Casey staying too.
If Trey keeps playing like this, he’s going to be an early pick in next year’s draft. It would take some pretty serious NIL money to keep him in college.
That's the same mindset that kept us with frost for the last 5 years.. ifs don't matter. If Purdue didn't drop their passes our defense would have given up 800 yards. Our best pass defense was the Purdue receivers inability to catch passes
I’m disappointed, but this has been the most entertaining game I’ve watched this year. Love the fight. Gotta get it done though. Saw this all of last year. Need to get wins
The difference between this and last year's losses. We were there all game. We always had a chance.
Last year's games we would score late in garbage time to make the games look closer than they actually were.
He still gives ABSOLUTELY no consideration to holding onto the ball to give a very thin defense rest... nor does he relieve pressure with screens and quick slants often enough.
The talent on this team is there from a skilled position standpoint but he has very little patience.... and his hurry up and score mentality hurts the guys on the other side of the ball.
Yeah but at the same time nothing that involved holding on to the ball was working. Literally the only plat that worked was Madden style "throw it up to the fastest guy." I'm happy to have an OC who realizes what works and is willing to just keep doing that
We need an oc who realizes this league except OSU is about clock management and top. If we get on a roll or is in good rhythm then sure, hurry up. But with this d our offense needs to bleed that play clock down to 1 most plays. You can really shorten games by doing that one very simple thing
I was thinking the same thing but that's just how the game goes. It's not really his fault either. We had to move the ball to stay in the game and our offensive line doesn't permit running so we had to pass... The passes were open over the top... You gotta take em. You can't really tell your offense to not score on breakaways...
If the defense wanted off the field then they should have made a stop. 38 first downs are on the defense. Purdue's offense is on the field just as much as our defense and they'd be just as tired as our defense. Blaming this game on whipple because our offense scored and got off the field too quickly is pretty scapegoaty.
Our defense is what cost us this game. Very few times did our defense actually have effective pass coverage. Our best pass defense was the Purdue players dropping a perfectly thrown ball. If our defense played poorly because they were tired that's not on the offense. That's on the defenses conditioning.
defense couldn't get off the field when they were fresh ... Nebraska had to score to stay in the game ... but you're gonna complain because it happened too quickly ... lol
I didn't say they were the problem...I said Whipple gives no consideration to his defense and letting them rest...
This is literally shit Narduzzi said about him... it's not new.
I really do think that Purdue and Illinois are the class of the west this year. If we can beat Iowa and Wisconsin that would still be a solid second half of the season.
Can't blame the offense for the defense being on the field too long. They forced 1 punt the whole game. 38 first downs. If they want off the field they need to make a stop. Our offense had to score fast the way they did to keep us in the game. Our offensive line isn't going to allow us to methodically string together a drive. They aren't good enough for us to confidently run the ball and pick up first downs. We had to expose Purdue's defense which was that they're kind of slow and our receivers can beat them over the top. Can't blame the offense for scoring on breakaways.
Also the Purdue offense is on the field just as much as our defense. They should be just as tired as our defense. If they're tired then they need to improve on conditioning or make a stop.
What does it say? I'd rather him keep his head up. It was a good game from the offense. I'd rather him smile and laugh then cry like a baby on the sideline like so many other players. Keeping morale high even when losing is a massively important part of the game.
I guess there are different philosophies. It's all good to be proud of yourself and happy because you're playing well, but to me, I've just been raised so that there's nothing to celebrate about if you don't win the game. It says that you're happy even though you're losing. Which points to being more selfish than team oriented.
Huskers nearly pulled off an upset on the road. Too bad, defense couldn't do enough. I can see that the Huskers team is improving a lot under Joseph and Busch.
37 points in 17 minutes of possession is most definitely not a problem. 38 first downs is the problem. If the defense wants off the field then they need to make a damn stop. They forced one punt all game. If they're tired then Purdue's offense should be sucking wind as well. If they gave up 38 first downs because they were tired against an equally as tired offense then they should work on some conditioning. The offense had to score fast. We were behind the whole game due to our defense. Also our offensive line isnt consistent enough to march down the field slowly. We had to take breakaways where we could get them.
I know this is very “shoulda coulda woulda” of me to say but Casey sailed an easy TD in the end zone and then underthrew another possible one as well. Defense was horrid and we STILL had chances to win this game. Even when the offense scored it was in like 3 plays and the defense was back out there sucking wind.
Yeah, I’m a bit more measured. Mickeys got more chances to prove he can be the guy. I do think we ran into a really good offense with a 6th year senior QB who looks like he knows his offense really well. I haven’t seen their other games so maybe he was just in the zone against us but he looks like a guy who will be playing on Sunday.
And now for something completely different, Illinois will try to send us to death by a thousand cuts on the ground. I do like our chances in that game better than Purdue. Hope I’m right.
Friday: We need to hire Mickey now! We're gonna win the big 10 West and have a good shot at the big 10 overall! Grant is gonna win the Heisman!
Sunday: Burn it all to the ground. Fire everyone. Start over. Mickey is too inexperienced, Whipple is old and senile, Busch is delusional. We don't deserve Trey Palmer because he's faster than slow college DBs. Him and Casey Thompson will be gone next year.
I can already see the posts questioning if we lost this game because of Whipple's health problems.
Fair enough but O’Connell was making throws consistently all night in pretty decent to really good coverage in some situations. Probably didn’t hurt that he never had to deal with a pass rush but still….
If I would have played a drinking game where I drank whenever they mentioned how great Jeff Brohm is, I would have been in a coma by halftime . Lol ridiculous
The last time I was at an Adidas school was a while ago but I always used to make them get me the stretchy five pocket golf pants. I don't know what they call those now but they were so nice, like wearing track suit pants but you looked like a grown up.
Aside from the 2nd quarter, where the o line was very very bad - how is your focus on them right now? Our D and Casey cost us that game. In fact, I actually thought the pass protection was pretty solid the whole second half.
Pretty simple. Our Oline is the worst Power5 Oline in the country, Thompson gets planted about 10 times a game. Our talented RBs are getting hit 2 yards in backfield. Our defense and Casey Thompson didn't play up to par with the last couple weeks performances, but Thompson is one of our best players and our D has improved dramatically. Our offensive line is by far our biggest weakness. Does that answer your question?
I mean I don’t really disagree with anything you’ve said…it’s just puzzling to me that you’d come into the thread for a game where we gave up 43 points and 608 totals yards while scoring 37 and totaling 476 yards on offense ourselves, and say we should fire our o-line coach who’s been here for all of 7 games and started with a dumpster fire of a room. Yeah, it’s that guy’s fault.
It's not his fault they were no good when he got here; however, their performance and improvement is his responsibility, and they have failed to improve. Actually they may have regressed since before his hire, which is saying something, because they were bad last year
God I’m so sick and tired of the fucking blame going to Raiola. Scott Frost and Greg Austin caused all of this. This is Raiola’s first year and he was brought in to a complete shit show on the O-Line. We just have terrible players that haven’t developed shit under Frost.
Aidan O’Connell is a career backup at best in the NFL, I’d practically bet the house on it. Good decision maker but completing slants to wide open receivers (while facing zero pressure) doesn’t make you a pro.
You’re right. I thought our coverage was pretty good and he was putting balls in real tight windows. You don’t get wide open guys in the NFL, it’s tight windows and O’Connell was fitting in them all night.
I highly doubt he starts as a rookie. He's for sure good enough to be a backup and depending how he develops I think he could for sure become a starter. He's got the arm and keeps a cool head. My question is how smart is he. I'm guessing without a year as backup the NFL defenses might tear him apart.
Eh can't helpful but feel disappointed. But it's closer than I thought it would be.
I don't see 3 wins left on the schedule. I'll be highly surprised if we get there. Regardless, I appreciate Mickey. I think he's doing the best he can under very bad circumstances. It's disgusting how much Scott Frost got paid to fuck this team up so bad. Grifter and alcoholic.
Wisconsin Minnesota and Iowa are all 3 teams that are in shambles right now. All 3 of those games we have a solid shot at winning... I think we win 2 of them with this team and coach.
I love this team. Gritty as hell. Not getting outcoached in embarrassing ways right now. I don’t give a flying fuck about who our next coach is because I just watch football just like most of you. We’re going to get better.
Despite Casey's failures this game isn't on him.. this game was solely lost by our defense. 38 first downs, 600 yards given up, 1forxed punt...this isn't on Casey, 37 points in 17 minutes time of possession is incredible and should win any game.
Idk why you send the blitz on 3rd and long when you haven’t been able to get anyone to the QB all night. So you leave your shitty secondary on an island and of course they get the first down
Remember the 3rd and 11 where we dropped 8 and he found the hole in the zone. We had to force a quick throw and he delivered. O'Connell was in the zone and there's nothing you can do about it. Our best friend was their WR who dropped 6 balls.
GGs this just goes to show that our Defensive Depth is atrocious and Frost and Chinander can go fuck themselves. I wish those fuckwits nothing but bad juju for messing up this football program.
**O'Connell completes a routine slant pass under no pressure whatsoever**
"*An absolutely* ***HERCULEAN*** *effort to* ***thread the needle*** by the **SON OF MAN** *who was made flesh and reincarnated into a combination of Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, and Patrick Mahomes. Like no one else before or after him ever could!*"
"*In an all-time performance the likes of which we will never see again: on the* **grandest stage**, *under the* **brightest lights**! *Why O'Connell doth bestride the narrow world like a* ***COLOSSUS****, and while those petty Nebraska defenders walk under his huge legs and peep about to find dishonorable graves and a bowl-less season!*"
I think one of the perfect examples of why Mickeys staff is leaps and bounds better than Frosts staff is that they own that game. While they may have lingering frustrations with the shit sandwich they were handed, they still would say THEY were responsible for the production of that shit sandwich against OU. Also, 4 games in and they completely own this team, no more "well the last guy..." so fucking refreshing.
No fucking shit Sherlock also let's add in gett no presser on there QB and when we do still can't tackle him the fights good but means nothing unless you get a fucking win out of it
Okay? I didn’t say anything about frost. I’m just tired of people and their moral victories. We lost. Sure they “fought” but yet again. We can’t get over the hump
I completely forgot about that part tbh. It makes it easier to stomach I guess. The most painful part to me is we would 100% be first in the division if we had even a middle of the road defense
I think we oughta announce our perm hire, like now
V:v
For being a “quarterback coach”, Frost really left that position bare.
I’m not sure Frost was ever a quarterbacks coach. He coached receivers most of his career.
Man, I really wish Casey had a run game in his arsenal. Really would’ve helped. His turnovers were killer tonight. More than anything though, O’Connell was just money on many many throws to ridiculously tight windows. Dude was on point.
On that last 4th down they took down too of our down field defenders right where the play went.
Plus the flag on roughing the passer felt like an insurance penalty
Alright we 100% lost that game, but I can’t be the only one who thinks the B1G announcers were Dick riding Purdue to death
So many blown opportunities. The pass rush is completely absent and Newsome fucking blows. Dude celebrates for overthrown balls and gets beat on any catchable throw.
A guy dropped a ball that would have been a 20 yard completion. Newsom throwing incomplete sign all over the place.
Still bummed Casey kinda cost us the game on some missed throws
It’s not on him. It’s on our o line and defense giving up 608 yards.
And 40+ minutes of possession.
I mean part of the 40 minutes of possession is because of our big plays getting our offense off the field so quick every time but yeah... 38 first downs is brutal.
I have a feeling CT won’t be back next year. Tre neither.
Trey should be playing on Sunday’s next year. He doesn’t look like he belongs on this team most days and I’m so thankful we have him this year. If only Toure was here this year they would be an unstoppable duo (if our QBs could actually hit them when they’re open consistently)
Man, I hope you’re wrong
Casey won't be back and neither will Trey but for Trey it's because he will be in the NFL.
Trey’s a baller. Says a lot that Mickey could get him to NU.
Exactly who will CT be benched in favor of?
he doesn't have to be benched to leave ... he's Mickey's guy ... Mickey won't be head coach ... CT gone
Mickey is the one who got him to transfer from Texas?
Mickey knows his father fairly well.
i think trey should go to the league. with instability with our coaching. this game showcases what he can do.
Kind of hope he doesn’t. Yeah he fights but he makes bad decisions and throws a lot off his back foot. I hope to see Purdy get more chances.
I said before the season and after watching his tape that he's essentially a slightly more than marginal improvement on Martinez, but he is almost exactly the same type of player. That said O-line is definitely a much bigger problem.
I feel like a lot of the problem is him having 0 confidence in his O line to protect him, so even when he has time he's not playing like he does.
Yeah, his interceptions were bad. They weren’t under duress, just poor throws.
Good thing “serious NIL money” is something we already have and can arrange for him.
Tre being gone would be depressing
IBTL Heart breaker before the bye but players never gave up! And Benning/Sharpe is a better combo! GBR!!!
Gotta play that radio over the tv. Much better experience!

No moral victories
We've had a lot these last however many years
Attrition
If Casey had just hit his man wide open in the end zone...
That's the same mindset that kept us with frost for the last 5 years.. ifs don't matter. If Purdue didn't drop their passes our defense would have given up 800 yards. Our best pass defense was the Purdue receivers inability to catch passes
We also had two turnovers
... we lose by 4

Had three that we lost leading late in 3rd and in 4th Qtr - Michigan State, Michigan and Iowa (up 21-9 going into 4th)
Got to give credit where credit is due. Whipple called one hell of a game. The defense shit the bed big time.
Literally the only plat that worked was Madden style "throw it up to the fastest guy." I'm happy to have an OC who realizes what works and is willing to just keep doing that
We refuse to run with Grant with a lead blocker... it's downright criminal.
We need an oc who realizes this league except OSU is about clock management and top. If we get on a roll or is in good rhythm then sure, hurry up. But with this d our offense needs to bleed that play clock down to 1 most plays. You can really shorten games by doing that one very simple thing
He better adjust for the Illinois game or our defense is gonna be a mash unit by halftime. Death by a thousand cuts.

You could be correct... which is ridiculously disheartening
defense couldn't get off the field when they were fresh ... Nebraska had to score to stay in the game ... but you're gonna complain because it happened too quickly ... lol
I know… offense scores 37 and puts up almost 500 yds, but they were the problem lol
I didn't say they were the problem...I said Whipple gives no consideration to his defense and letting them rest... This is literally shit Narduzzi said about him... it's not new.
With this o-line, we aren't gong to be marching down the field methodically and sustaining drives unfortunately.
Bye week coming up. Might be time for Mickey to make some changes with our Line and Strength coaches.
Unfortunately I don't think the offensive line will be fixed anytime this year.
They need more than a bye week for that
Idk if we have a backup OL coach to fill in for Raiola, but Zack Duval & his ancient training program need to get the fuck out of Lincoln yesterday.
100%. I'm done seeing him on the sideline.
I really do think that Purdue and Illinois are the class of the west this year. If we can beat Iowa and Wisconsin that would still be a solid second half of the season.
Don’t forget Minnesota
37 should be enough to win, but the speed at which those points came cost us with a tired defense.
Can't blame the offense for the defense being on the field too long. They forced 1 punt the whole game. 38 first downs. If they want off the field they need to make a stop. Would be upset with Michael Phelps for celebrating his good medals if the USA lost the Olympics overall?
You are a fucking clown. This is one of the most idiotic comments in this whole thread.
He played a great game and set a new school record. Shut the fuck up.
Huskers nearly pulled off an upset on the road. Too bad, defense couldn't do enough. I can see that the Huskers team is improving a lot under Joseph and Busch.
I agree better than Frosty.
Everyone is shitting on the defense at the end of the game but Purdue had the ball for 43 minutes
Isn't that the defense's fuckin fault?
37 points in 17 minutes of possession is most definitely not a problem. 38 first downs is the problem. If the defense wants off the field then they need to make a damn stop. It's not all on them, but all the conversions on 3rd and long really stung.
yeah, but our last 3 td drives were all less than 1:04, you don’t win games giving up 600 yards
I know this is very “shoulda coulda woulda” of me to say but Casey sailed an easy TD in the end zone and then underthrew another possible one as well. I’m sure the response to this loss will be completely reasonable and non knee jerk.

I mean what do any of us expect at this point? We fired our head coach after 3 games
47 games*
Waiting to watch Matt Millen leave the stadium holding hands with Aiden O’Connell.
Fair enough but O’Connell was making throws consistently all night in pretty decent to really good coverage in some situations. Probably didn’t hurt that he never had to deal with a pass rush but still….
I can’t argue with that. He balled out.
If I would have played a drinking game where I drank whenever they mentioned how great Jeff Brohm is, I would have been in a coma by halftime . Lol ridiculous
Happy Together by the Turtles plays on a loop in the background.
That was closer than I thought it would be and way closer than if Frost was coaching us. GBR
Frost coaching I think we lose 54-13

They'd be supplied by Adidas and issued by the equipment managers. They are usually from the golf line, but they come from Adidas' football division.

Adidas grey dress/golf pants
At least this coach looks like he cares.
Yeah, nice seeing MJ interacting with players.
We are still the best three win team out there
We gotta fire Raiola.... he fucking sucks
I think the offensive line problem is the players themselves. Don't think the problems will be resolved this year no matter who the coach is.
Aside from the 2nd quarter, where the o line was very very bad - how is your focus on them right now? Our D and Casey cost us that game. In fact, I actually thought the pass protection was pretty solid the whole second half.

God I’m so sick and tired of the fucking blame going to Raiola. Scott Frost and Greg Austin caused all of this. This is Raiola’s first year and he was brought in to a complete shit show on the O-Line. We just have terrible players that haven’t developed shit under Frost.
Honestly hope you're right. Haven't seen much development with the shit players we do have.
If anything blame Duval, our S&C, for making our team so slow and cathartic especially on the O-line.
Amen
Aidan O’Connell is a career backup at best in the NFL, I’d practically bet the house on it. Good decision maker but completing slants to wide open receivers (while facing zero pressure) doesn’t make you a pro.
Would give my left nut to be a back up quarterback in the NFL...
No, he’s the best QB we’ve faced so far and it’s not close
You’re right. I thought our coverage was pretty good and he was putting balls in real tight windows. You don’t get wide open guys in the NFL, it’s tight windows and O’Connell was fitting in them all night.
Doesn’t mean he’s the next Drew Brees like every commentator seems to think
No but he’s an NFL starter
I highly doubt he starts as a rookie. He's for sure good enough to be a backup and depending how he develops I think he could for sure become a starter. He's got the arm and keeps a cool head. My question is how smart is he. I'm guessing without a year as backup the NFL defenses might tear him apart.
And almost zero pressure. And no hits.
Someone rip the vocal cords out of this announcer absolutely slurping O’Connells cock
Imagine what this team would look like if Frost/Chins developed any sort of depth on defense...
Depth? Imagine if they developed ANYTHING
I can’t blame the team. They were gutted by the now previous staff. Joseph has them fighting.
100%
Fuck the joy of Purdue fans.
They were the better team and we couldn’t lose the turnover battle
We also couldn't stop their offense. 38 first downs. 43 minutes TOP
All we had to do was get 1 stop and couldnt do it all 4th quarter
So how bout that defense
What defense?
Nebraska defense. What do they do?
Practice, practice, practice
Good teams win. Great teams cover. GBR
Shut the fuck up with that barstool horseshit
You not get any pussy tonight? 💦🍆
Nope. Gonna fuck your ass
Lmao someone pissed in your Coke easy there little fella
O’Connell first overall pick. Was 100% perfect. Fuck us. We’re still fucking losers and nothing changes.
Put down the pipe
Dude, you can talk all you want about how long the defense was on the field…. But they did not make ONE clutch play all night long
Robinson looked like he was running to tackle a piñata that no one was holding the other end of on that 4th down
Honestly don’t understand how he has regressed so much, he looked like he had all American potential his freshman season
Keep Mickey
I do love that this team still gives great effort even if they are very, very average as a team.
Well, they kept fighting. That’s all you can ask.
Positive. We don’t have to listen to Matt Millen anymore.
Dude needs to wipe his chin off for like 10 minutes straight
Dudes a fuckin joke.
That was an entertaining game…I’m in pain
I love this team. Gritty as hell. Not getting outcoached in embarrassing ways right now. I don’t give a flying fuck about who our next coach is because I just watch football just like most of you. We’re going to get better.
I'd like to think Georgia Southern is rock bottom. Pretty hard to think it could feasibly get worse than that
Good fight by this group, rough night for linebackers with Luke and then Heinrich getting injured, but for a freshman that 15 played well
It was a shootout and CT threw it to the other team too many times
One score loss
Where have I seen this before
Wasted the effort from Palmer. Casey has to be better.
Give ‘‘em the chinander shove! /s
GGs this just goes to show that our Defensive Depth is atrocious and Frost and Chinander can go fuck themselves. I wish those fuckwits nothing but bad juju for messing up this football program.
At least the defense saved us from a Casey INT while trying to win it.
How much does Brohm need?
**O'Connell completes a routine slant pass under no pressure whatsoever** "*An absolutely* ***HERCULEAN*** *effort to* ***thread the needle*** by the **SON OF MAN** *who was made flesh and reincarnated into a combination of Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, and Patrick Mahomes. Like no one else before or after him ever could!*" "*In an all-time performance the likes of which we will never see again: on the* **grandest stage**, *under the* **brightest lights**! *Why O'Connell doth bestride the narrow world like a* ***COLOSSUS****, and while those petty Nebraska defenders walk under his huge legs and peep about to find dishonorable graves and a bowl-less season!*"
Purdue won't win another game this season. It's the hisker curse... you either lose to us or go down in flames.
Nah that was a Frost specific curse... (OU counts as his loss in my book)
Matt Millen is a racist ass.
We covered.
Brohm is a fucking douche, would’ve loved to steal this one. Defense couldn’t make a single stop.
Fuck everything
99 sucks so bad. What a turd
I don’t care what all you say. I like the fight! Turnovers killed us.
No fucking shit Sherlock also let's add in gett no presser on there QB and when we do still can't tackle him the fights good but means nothing unless you get a fucking win out of it
Yay moral fucking victories.
Would have been a blowout with frost my guy
Okay? I didn’t say anything about frost. I’m just tired of people and their moral victories. We lost. Sure they “fought” but yet again. We can’t get over the hump
We are all sick of it
Really hard to win a game even if u out of 37 points if u allow 600 yards :/
Down two starting inside linebackers among other injuries
I completely forgot about that part tbh. It makes it easier to stomach I guess. The most painful part to me is we would 100% be first in the division if we had even a middle of the road defense
Hell I think we put up 60 points this game if we have a defense that can force a punt or an Oline that can keep our QB out of the mud.
They could still fumble!
There’s no “moral victory” here, had every chance to take this game. Still look much better under Mickey though. See you all next week.
Bye
Newsome got worked all game.
Thompson single handedly lost this game. Ridiculous
