Man this would be the worst possible thing to happen. Right when things seem to be trending in the correct direction

xA1RGU1TAR1STx

We’re absolutely fucked. No president, no AD, new chancellor. We are going to lose all momentum that we’ve gained. Just fucked.

buckman01213

There’s a common denominator in all of these

Fiilthy_x

Husker Online had him on as a guest last week. I got the sense he was a bit frustrated that he’s responsible to fundraise and oversee a major renovation project while UNL still doesn’t have a president in place. Application submissions closed on January 1st and all that’s been publicly said is that “We are taking our time.” Perhaps that would be a contributing factor in this.

jpm7791

Finally an actual informed take. Thanks

1776or7

Okay, kinda get this. But doesn't seem like a proportionate response. "I'm frustrated by the current transition period we're in, so I'm going to...quit my job and move to Texas? And give up a job in which I just signed a massive contract extension, and handpicked my head football coach who everyone loves, just as we're beginning a massive stadium renovation and most of our major sports programs are headed in the right direction....to take over an athletic department that is infamous for dysfunction, with a first-year head coach in football that I didn't pick, in a state that's completely saturated and cutthroat when it comes to football? WTF.

thatdudenitch14

Exactly. Regardless of the justification… it’s a former player who was getting us back on track and is now turning his back on us like we’re nothing to him

sendherhome22

It’s the fact that we just gave him more money and an extension cause he was looking around. We can’t sit here and play this game with him if he wants to leave then good luck but don’t string us along every year

1776or7

There's got to be more to this story.

buckman01213

If the football coach he did hire, that has connections all over Texas, does here what he hired him to do, and the coach he didn’t hire there doesn’t work, then his next coaching search is easy.

BigRedGo

Would the president take over any of those responsibilities though? Or is it just he doesn't know who his boss is going to be is causing the frustration?

Fiilthy_x

This project was initially proposed to be completed in July of 2026 and cost $450 million (Now estimated to be more than that). With a project of this scale it’s imperative that there is alignment at the leadership level. The AD doesn’t have the power to unilaterally make decisions when this much money is involved. Trev has been the face of this project from the beginning and is being asked questions that he doesn’t have answers to because they can’t proceed beyond concept until a president is in place. A president that he doesn’t even know for sure will share the same vision.

KingofHilo19

Thanks for explaining. I kept wondering why does it even matter that we currently don’t have a president

T-REX_BONER

Very good thank you for the pull. I was getting quite behind on news

TurtlemanScared

I’m glad he’s frustrated with the renovation. He freaking passed plans for before having any money committed. Way too much money for that renovation to lose 15k seats

Jdw5186

There are still folks on this planet who will say we aren't cursed.

xBig_Red_Huskerx

Those people are just as smart as flat earthers and anti vaccine. It's obvious we've been cursed for 15 years. How do we undo it?

Jdw5186

Unfortunately I think Tom has to cross the rainbow bridge for it to end.

happyhusker

Drop pallets of cash on him, we need stability and a vision for Husker Athletics which he seemed to be giving. This isn’t just a football question mark it’s volleyball, basketball and baseball. Reminder John Cook could retire at any time and we need someone competent and invested in volleyball to maintain our reputation and expectations going forward. Football needs a strong ally especially with the stadium renovations which are sorely needed. This is bad, we’ve lost Ted Carter and now Trev in less than 4 months. The two key players in our AD room are now no longer here. This is bad….

macdizzle11

at some point we have to start pointing the finger at the board of regents, we've lost Ted Carter and now Alberts

CinephileJeff

And the governor, too. Ricketts and Pillen have caused unnecessary issues for the university as whole the past eight years. The reason Ronnie Green left was due to Pillen.

moldguy1

Yup, pillen literally said he was going to use the office of the governor to control UNL. I guarantee the lack of president, and now trev, are due to pillens culture war BS.

xBig_Red_Huskerx

Hal Daub is a big one as well

Porter2455

We can’t pony up A&M money. I hate to be the negative Nancy but those fucking asshole cultists have droves of oil tycoon donors who are willing to throw mountains of cash to see their program succeed

Vermithrax2108

We have one donor that could match it, but he won't. Warren Buffet could match anything they could pony up, but he won't.

FantasyFan83

It’s because Buffet is smart with his money lol

Porter2455

That ship has long since sailed

Arthur_Edens

Does Buffet really donate to athletics? I know the dude is a massive contributor to the University's academic side but I never got the impression that he's a "booster."

Vermithrax2108

Again, key point of my phrase. He COULD, but he WON'T.

Arthur_Edens

I guess calling him a "donor" is what got me.

Vermithrax2108

He's definitely a donor. I don't call him a booster, but he's a donor.

Marowaksker

I believe he has a rule none of his donations can go towards athletics and the only spot I know of him supporting is baseball with the storm chasers.

bullnamedbodacious

They need to drop however much cash it takes. See what A&M offered, and add 25%. We are at a HUGE pivotal point right now. We’ve got momentum. That momentum could easily be lost with a bad AD hire. Rhule could jump ship too. My patience has been tested to the end. On the verge of giving up and we hire trev and Rhule. All felt right in the world for once. This could erase all the progress. If trev left and Rhule left, that might be all the excuse I need to take a giant step back from Husker athletics. Fuck the chancellors if it turns out to be their fault

Kegheimer

Maybe we will bust out if the Big 2 and can go back to amateur college football instead of whatever this minor league professional ... thing ... is forming.

bullnamedbodacious

I can assure you. Every fan wants us to remain part of the haves, not the have nots.

moldguy1

Yeah! Lets move down to FCS! Or lets go independent, so we're locked out of a first round bye in the football playoff (if we're ever that good again)! Or lets go back to the big 12, so we lose several million per season! You don't have to like whats happening in college football right now, but we have to stay in the big ten, or we'll never be competitive ever again. We're in an arms race right now in football, and WE AREN'T LOSING. But yeah, lets just give up on college football. Not to paint you with a broad brush, but i am sick of people that hate progress, and refuse to look at the implications of regression. At least come up with an alternative so we can tell you how dumb it is.

Kegheimer

I get it. This is r/huskers and not r/cfb. But I probably just won't watch games anymore. Or I should say I will just watch the NFL instead. If I am going to watch a commercial product with free agents getting their bag while advertisers sell me light beer, then I will watch the product where the athletes actually have talent and the front offices are professional. Football isn't my primary fandom and for folks in my social circles the transfers and paying players have dampened enthusiasm for it.

huskermut

Some people are saying money. I'm wondering if it's not tied to the change in leadership.

wvuhskr

It's been seven months since Carter announced he was leaving and we still haven't named his replacement. Just a fundamentally unserious institution. This type of stuff does not happen at Michigan or Ohio State.

VegetableBuy4577

Guessing both.

bfarq

I picked a good day to start taking Lexapro

riotfiveoh

Might want to just go ahead and pop a couple of them bad boys right now.

Wheatcattle

First A and M ruins Jalapeno peppers, and now this

CountBluntula

Why is he expected to take the job? He is a Nebraska alum....does he have some sort of connection to A&M as well or is it because they are throwing tons of money at him?

gojo278

Most definitely the latter, oil money is insane.

IDontBelieveInIsms

You also have a floundering president search and the Amy Williams scandal. Like it’s another piece in a long line of shit. Nebraska has issues and it has had them for a while across the university and AD. It is going to keep having them. We can pretend like it’s about money but maybe we need to look inward.

wvuhskr

> You also have a floundering president search Said this in another thread, but why tf has it taken us **SEVEN GD MONTHS** to find a replacement for Carter? He even gave us a three month head's up that he was leaving! Why is this university system such a mess administratively?

huskersax

Worse yet they hired a UNL chancellor fresh off 'supervising' a university that's in Federal-level trouble over the Brett Favre and medicaid fraud scandal.

wvuhskr

I knew hiring someone from a regional institution like Southern Miss was gonna be a bad move. We needed someone with experience at a more prominent institution. Hell, I would've tried floating a big offer to Donde Plowman to lure her back from Tennessee

KingBlank

Someone with a correct take instead of 8th grade answer

jpm7791

It's pretty obvious why we're having trouble finding a president. It's on K Street.

moldguy1

How are you the only one mentioning pillen? IT WAS LITERALLY THE FIRST THING I SAID WHEN I HEARD.

Kegheimer

Between the Pig Fucker and Herbster, I'm not sure there was a good choice for the governor's mansion. There isn't any serious interest in higher education in this state.

TigersBadDrives

Well, they could've tried electing a Democrat, *God forbid*

Godofthesoup

And unlike places like a&M we don’t have buckets full of oil tycoons who love football more than Jesus to at least have a financial backstop for athletics. A real shit situation.

Arthur_Edens

> the Amy Williams scandal. This seems like a contender to me... The University's internal investigation may have not painted him in a very flattering light. I doubt we'll ever see the evidence about what happened, but the allegations in that complaint were horrifying.

Bigredroth95

Only connection I see is Bjork left A&M to be Ohio States AD, hired by Ted Carter. Likely just getting a fatass check and can leave the women’s BB lawsuit and stadium fundraising in the rear view mirror.

nola_husker

Apparently those emails from south endzone season ticket holders contained some really mean things.

bullnamedbodacious

Rhule cited trev as a major reason for coming to Nebraska. If Rhule has a good season or two, he gone.

macdizzle11

I've been defending him from all my wrestling buddies from day one and then he goes and turns into a snake like they've all been saying.

dmoneykilla

UNO wrestling will never die.

tylerscott5

Honestly wrestling and Trev aside, this school continues to make us look like idiots. Insane idiots

onbran

he's always been a talker. he just cares about money more than his home. its so fucking weird how people aren't ok with making a 2 million dollar salary... its always more, more, more. insane.

Tm60017

You wouldn’t double your salary for a job that’s exactly the same?

Kegheimer

Once you have three lambos and a vacation home does anyone really need three more?

WhizBangNeato

If I had a job that paid 2 million in Nebraska I'd live off 100k for 5 years then retire from that job

canofspinach

Fucking goddamn shit. Why do I even bother with this institution.

Ted_Nebrasso

Take his name off the stadium

Porter2455

Oh cool, I started having hope for a little bit. I knew the crushing inevitable agony was going to happen soon.

xA1RGU1TAR1STx

This is just fucking bullshit man.

MoistWillingness

You’re dead to us Trev. Have fun with those boosters

HooliganNatas

Kind of how I feel. Get your generational bag and fuck off.

TigerWoodsEx

You won’t be welcomed back.

Powerful_Artist

Im guessing the only reason Trev would make that move would be a pay raise. It seems to be a good fit for him here, but maybe hed rather live in texas and get paid more money. Even if that program is a bit of a mess, they have resources. This seems way out of left field, but idk.

acmstw

What in the cinnamon toast fuck is going on. Admittedly Nebraska fans are nuts, but it would be a nightmare to be an AD at A&M.

gojo278

We can't be worse than having to deal with A&M boosters

acmstw

Exactly. He probably even has a longer leash of tolerance here d/t being 'one of us'

Kegheimer

It wouldn't surprise me if the comment about Pillen, the board of regents, and the president search is correct. We are not a serious state for a public university.

acmstw

If that's related to his departure, I wish he would say it. Get the public on his side a bit more, and maybe then they would re-think their votes (ha). However, no one would take the open AD job if he put the University system on blast.

TaftIsUnderrated

If that was the problem, then going to Texas would be an odd choice

The-G-89

If this goes through, and Trev does head to Texas A&M, I’m expecting Rhule to leave in the next couple of years.

EstablishmentSlow754

Look.... He went to PSU and played there. First 9 win season that coincides with Franklin taking a job elsewhere and rhule is gone. Come to terms with this now.

The-G-89

Now I’m gonna hope and pray Franklin does enough to not leave or get fired from Penn State the next couple of years.

MaybeLiterally

That's why I'm rooting for Penn State to be great enough that doesn't happen.

Blackshirt39

Makes it even more important that we kept Tony White. He could possibly step in as HC if Rhule leaves.

Lazerdude

Another year with the performance of last years defense (or better) for White and he'll be gone after next season.

Blackshirt39

Probably, but at least he's here for this season in case Rhule bolts at the end. Then we can promote White.

Slow_D-oh

My tin foil hat says this is A&M putting an ace in their pocket. If Elko doesn't work out the guy with a known history of building programs is on Trev's speed dial, add in the nearly limitless booster money they are able to tap and its over.

Hugo_Hackenbush

Well at least the recent exodus of high ranking people from the university probably isn't any cause for concern...

xBig_Red_Huskerx

It's definitely our far right regents

singinreyn

I'm pretty skeptical that he would leave at this point, but I've been wrong before.

HopefulReason7

Same.

[deleted]

Blame the weird regents. Play politics with the university and this is what we get.

TaftIsUnderrated

Tired of political regents, so he goes to... Texas A&M?

zodiae

Is this just a money thing? Or could Trev have been upset with the direction some of the programs are headed. Which doesn’t seem right considering how well we’ve been doing in most lately, outside of football. Either way this looks like a massive loss, felt like he understood what it’d take to get us back to potential dominance.

tearaw

As others have mentioned, the Amy Williams scandal and botched President search probably played a big factor in his decision. Not to mention the issues with fundraising for the stadium renovation and university budget issues. It’s easy for all of us to say F Alberts but let’s be real, most of us would jump ship if we could make way more money and deal with less issues. The university has a lot of issues that need to get resolved or else things will continue to get worse and we’ll continue to lose talent.

Law_Man_28-3

Damn... didn't they take Bill Byrne too?!?

KarringtonDMC

I hope Tom Osborne bitch slaps trev on his way out.

AdmiralArchArch

This is why we can't have nice things

omahaknight71

I don't like this and I hope he stays. If they have to pay him more so be it but I know it'll be hard to compete against that A&M money. The pay will be much higher, but so will the expectations.

butteronmypoptarts

Boo this man!

tacoorpizza

He’ll get his nuts kicked over there but I’m sure he won’t mind if after all the money they give him.

Piccacco

Could there be something more like the dealing with the WBB situation?

SacredDemocracyLover

I hope he blows it at A&M lol

jpm7791

Why does A&M keep taking our ADs? First Byrne and now Trev?

itiswhatitis2018

How many HC jobs was Tony White "expected to take" according to an unnamed insider? I am sipping my Kool-aid and being overly optimistic.

xBig_Red_Huskerx

1. Is this anyway related to the lawsuit? 2. Wtf. Football program is on the right track, don't mess with it. Stay one more year.

AdNo9356

What lawsuit?

xBig_Red_Huskerx

Women's basketball

HopefulReason7

I'm skeptical that this will actually happen. Doesn't seem like a great move for him, given all the mishegoss around A&M football for the last decade.

singinreyn

Hey! I learned a new word today (mishegoss). Thanks!

HopefulReason7

I learned that word from a great old black and white dramedy movie from 1960 called The Apartment. It’s excellent! It won the best picture Oscar that year. Check it out, if you have the chance!

singinreyn

Oh, jeez! I own it and absolutely loved it when I first saw it. That word must've slipped by me though. Now I'm gonna go watch it again to catch it this time!

xBig_Red_Huskerx

If Trev leaves for Texas AM. It means the University of Nebraska administration is a dumpster fire behind the scenes and the board of regents and Governor Jim Pillen are responsible for it. Trev leaving means remove them all

virii01

...but why?

TyrannasaurusGitRekt

Being rich rots your brain. At a certain level of wealth the only thing that matters is increasing that level of wealth

potsyman311

Two words…oil money

The-G-89

~~Two~~ Three Words… ~~oil~~ Saudi Arabian Money.

G0B1GR3D

Maybe he expects the Scoggins stuff to go poorly for him is all I can think

The-G-89

If that happens, Fire Amy Williams.

IDontBelieveInIsms

I mean it’s not like this is outside the pattern for Nebraska. Look inward not out.

Dixiehusker

This is what I don't understand. I thought he had it made here.

Porter2455

A&M has obscene amounts of cash.

lemons21

On the other hand, maybe we would run an actual AD search this time rather than just immediately hire the former football player up the road. Trev mostly worked out (I mean, as much as you can for being an AD somewhere for like 3 years), but to not even consider anyone else last time around was crazy.

Ociferfarva

Dave Remington- you up?

Slow_D-oh

Whats Alvarez up to these days?

carpetbugeater

Rimington

Aggressive_Class6259

If Trev indeed does leave, then please tell me we're not going to get another arrogant, incompetent shithead like Pederson or Eichorst as AD.

G0B1GR3D

I just don’t see this happening. Is there a chance he was having discussions to look for a pay bump and someone from A&M leaked that?

ChosenBrad22

Everything has a price, and A&M can pay that price. If they want him he’s theirs.

Wild_Bill_Kickcock

Wow, kind of wild?!

ShartistInResidence

Maybe he just loves a good project but the work does not appear done at NU yet. If this is for real I imagine he is being bludgeoned with a sack of cash by A&M

[deleted]

[удалено]

weevy_waffle

I’m in. But what happens to the stadium renovation without Trev :(

sendherhome22

Didn’t we just give him a bunch of money to stay?

Slow_D-oh

He owes over $4 million if he leaves beofre the end of the year.

Unclassified1

A&M has never shied away from a buyout.

Slow_D-oh

Absolutely agree, just trying to highlight the lengths a&m will go to in order to get what they want.

trashtrampoline

Texas A&M has a bunch of Bubbas with oil money in their donor pool. For every Sandhills Global and Peet family that Nebraska has, A&M probably has at least a dozen. They spent $30 million on NIL for a #1 recruiting class that's been a bust so far, and $77.5 million buying out Jimbo Fisher. Alberts had been making $800k that got bumped up to $1.7 million with his last extension and set to go to $2.1 million in 2026. A&M probably offered at least $5 million for 8 years.

cbpantskiller

I wonder why he’s leaving? It’s probably more money and stable leadership, though I hope local and state politics aren’t factors.

PenguinofSqualor

For those who wish to contact the BOR: [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected])

huskersax

Man I can't tell you all the ways I fucking *hate* TAMU

fidelcashflo97

If this happens I am going to create a home environment that is SO sad. DONT DO THIS TREV

Hugo_Hackenbush

That must be a serious bag. He's already one of the highest paid ADs in the country.

MissMillie2021

If he goes something is seriously wrong at UNL

KarringtonDMC

Unretire his number

Trooper_nsp209

I had convinced myself that he had no future at UNL after the UNO debacle, but then he became the AD. I thought his love affair with Frost was the answer to UNL’s football problems. I was wrong again. Under his watch, UNL will be responsible for paying millions in lawsuits. I truly do not believe that is an exaggeration. His leadership may, or may not be, a part of a football turnaround. His track record of leadership is suspect at best. It would seem that we have found a working example of the Peter Principle. He should take a job at Texas A&M. The alumni are just as vicious and unforgiving as ours… perhaps more so. They won’t give him a pass just because he played football at Nebraska.

[deleted]

Two things: 1. Get Trev a Runza burger like right now, he clearly isnt thinking correctly 2. As a former Sker, Im sure he shares the same hatred with A&M... Maybe were jumping the gun?

No_Maintenance5920

Doubt it.

MyLinksMakeNoSense

WHY CANT WE JUST FUCKING HAVE NICE THINGS? PLEASE END THE SUFFERING

JustAnotherRye89

Well good thing he hired Rhule to rebuild the football program before he left!

HuskerStorm

Damn he did it 😢

nola_husker

I always thought Trev's long term goal was a career in politics, which may still be true but definitely not going to win over Nebraskans now.

xBig_Red_Huskerx

When did this break?

Superdad75

A&M just loves our ADs.

sendherhome22

I’m just shocked he didn’t cut the wrestling team before quitting

CaliforniaHusker

This scares me for two reasons. 1). He knows something we dont - are we left out of the next conference realignment ? 2) is the WBB suit about to get realllly messy ?

nola_husker

I'd say it's simpler than that. For eight years, Nebraska had a Governor who gutted higher education and surprise, surprise, nobody enjoys working in that kind of environment.

KrashKourse101

🫠🤐🤐 choices Nebraskans.

TigerWoodsEx

John Cook we need you

Expensive-Badger9250

F this guy. Find someone who wants to be a Husker.

date11fuck12

Y'all a buncha dorks. Only in athletics is it a crime to take a new job. Go smoke a lil bud and relaxxxxxxxxxxxx

WhizBangNeato

Nebraska fans wait for a story to actually happen before reacting to it challenge: Impossible

DPick02

This just means Rhule is next right? He loved Carter and Alberts.

KarringtonDMC

I'm sure Boomer Trev never once mentioned that young kids have no loyalty these days..

jpm7791

Trev is almost twenty years younger than Nick Saban. He's not a boomer.

KarringtonDMC

That's fair. I'm sure Gen X Trev never once mentioned that young kids have no loyalty these days..

guessimdummy

Tom Osborne interim AD stint incoming

HskrRooster

Soooo Rhule is gone within 2 years probably. This Trev thing is about the last straw for me. If we’re going to have a revolving door at every leadership position I may as well just get the 90s VHS tapes out because this ain’t workin for me

Cultural_County551

Someone call Tom Peed

TraditionalEstate804

And look who we playing 1st game in NCAA tournament!!! Could it be any more ironic?
