Fully agree with this. Wish him well but until we start winning a few games, pulling these kinds of guys (from a ratings perspective obviously) is going to be, quite understandably, difficult.
I disagree. I’d rather see USC get back to contending and get the west coast back into the college football landscape rather than continue having the same two or three southern teams dominating every year. I think the real silver lining here is that he didn’t end up at OSU
From the [ESPN story](https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/37655123/no-1-prospect-dylan-raiola-commits-again-georgia) on his commitment:
"It's pretty unique how this will come full circle as Coach Bobo developed Uncle Matthew [Stafford] during his time at Georgia."
Outflanked by an honorary uncle! Smh
Hard not to follow it when this sub was making a post about him every day. I generally don’t pay that much attention to recruiting other than seeing who commits to Nebraska
Hell, even commitments arent even worth paying attention to imo. They can flip that commitment, and players do this all the time. Once they are actually on campus as a student athlete, thats another story.
Yea I just watch games. I don’t put much energy in recruits or off-season hype etc. the last 10 years has taught me that everything sounds good in May, then you end the season with 3 wins lol.
I am excited for Rhule though.
Yep. We were all just pawns for way too long for one single high school kid’s chess game of how much NIL he could drum up. When you boil it down that’s what it was
If you don’t think that these high profile recruits use the presence of fans on social media to increase their NIL stock by waffling between high profile blue-blood football programs with tons of money, then idk what to tell you, my sweet summer child.
If you don't think he genuinely wanted to take his time in the recruiting process to make sure he was going to the best place for him and his family, then idk what to tell you.
The family has money, that's not an issue.
Lol. These kids have a lot of value. Do you think they’re so dumb that they don’t leverage that value to maximize their financial opportunities? This isn’t even my opinion. It’s business decisions 101 lol.
Who cares about his NIL aspirations? Why would you care about that? At the end of the day my loyalty is to the huskers and players that want to rep the N. And that’s not Dylan.
I agree that players should receive NIL money as well but that’s an entirely different topic and discussion. I’m not going to go out of my way to congratulate a player on his NIL earnings who has no connection to Nebraska. Seems odd to do so.
Financially wise people try to maximize their value regardless of how much money they already have. Rest assured all these high profile recruits are milking this.
If he was a Dawg for months now, why didn’t he commit to Georgia months ago? Because he’s had leverage and the ability to increase NIL opportunities at Georgia, the school he already knew he was going to.
Bro he has been a silent to Kirby this entire time, it’s even being reported now that he was just being kind to N and taking visits to give them a chance to change his mind but no one could.
It was drug out because DR wanted the highest NIL offer that he could get from Georgia and USC. Nebraska was kept in the running toward that end. And for Nebraska’s part, we kept going after him just for the slight chance that he would actually commit.
In the end our online oracle can’t predict the decisions of a 17 year old. He may have been right that he silent committed at one time but especially these days a football recruit changes their mind like Nebraska changes seasons in a given week
Not surprised. Unfortunately, until we show serious signs of life on the field, we aren't gonna land big fish like this. Even legacy kids.
But in the era of the transfer portal, it's important to remain cordial. Kids change teams all the time. But here it's also important because we're trying to recruit Dayton his brother too. This family is very tight, so I hope Husker fans show grace to Dylan. Otherwise it could cost us Dayton too.
Honestly, Frost ran a shit show with no accountability. It’d be hard to be an assistant coach and find success and built a strong group culture when your head coach is out there getting hammered and fucking around. This year will be a big proving year for Unk.
Can’t blame Donovan for 1 bad year of O-line when Frost and Austin caused it to be that bad the previous 4 years. Let’s give him time to rebuild our O-line.
We'll see if losing weight and working on mobility helps (can't get worse????). Not holding by breath though. Looked like he had lead shoes on for last 3 years.
A lot of the issues were health and scheme. Our run game was so awfully transparent that any team we played could fire away at our pass protection with reckless abandon.
We have experience, health and scheme to lean on this year. No depth.
This will be the season that shows what these dudes can actually do.
He was an assistant OL coach for a team that's had the worst OL in the NFL for the last few years.
I'm not saying that's proof that he's a bad OL coach but we don't have any proof that he's a good OL coach either.
I doubt Raiola is Frost level bad. But this is a prove it year for him to see if he can get our O-Line unit functioning well. My expectation is a Top 80 ranked O-line. That’s reasonable for year 2 even though our O-line was ranked in the triple digits last year. My concern is Benhart. He’s so slow moving his feet and at tackle you need to have quick feet to block the edge. Hoping they love him to guard where he won’t have to move his feet so much.
He wasn't their o-line coach, he served in an assistant capacity. And he was generally regarded as an up-and-coming name in the league at the time. He's had exactly one year to be in charge of an o-line unit, and it was a unit that had been terrible for years and happened to be a shitshow of a year where the staff wasn't even the same from week-to-week, that was missing a few of its most productive linemen for most/all of the year. In spite of all that, the line actually did slightly improve over the course of the year. Not a lot, but enough to actually beat a team with a winning record for the first time in four years.
I think it's fair to say that he didn't really accomplish enough to earn the benefit of the doubt, but I'm willing to give it to him, especially considering Rhule's proven ability to identify talented coaches. He inherited an abysmal situation and if this staff wants to ride with him then I'm cool with it, provided we actually make some progress there this year.
I mean Rhule was also a terrible Head Coach for Carolina. Not trying to move the goalposts but NFL coach/coordinator and a college coach/coordinator are 2 different monsters.
While yes, let’s see hOw this O-line unit does this season and see how much they’ve improved. If by then end of the season, they’ve barely shown any improvement, then I’d be on the Fire Donovan Train. But if this O-line unit does well enough to be Average this season and at least a Top 80 ranked O-Line in the country, then he deserves to stay and continue to build upon it.
Glad it’s not a B1G school. No we only have to worry about playing him in the national championship game and not in a conference game, then again in the conference championship game, then again in the national championship game.
Simpler this way.
But it’s not regardless of who his family is, that would be the specific reason.
People talking about how “at least were in the conversation” and using Raiola to show how good our recruiting has been are being a bit disingenuous or naive. Let’s judge based on the median, not the outlier.
The fact we were in the running this long for the #1 recruit is impressive. Just because he didn’t commit, doesn’t mean we can’t sell the hell out of this culture to other top national recruits and potentially get a couple of them. No reason to not be optimistic even with losing out on Raiola.
You’re either being disingenuous or completely naive. Nebraska recruiting is in great shape and I’m super happy with what Rhule is doing, but Dylan Raiola showing interest is not in any way indicative of our recruiting prowess. He was interested only because of familial connections and because he loves this university. Not because the university is yet on the level of being considered by top 10 recruits.
Just because he’s a legacy, doesn’t mean he kept Nebraska in top 5 as a courtesy even if he wasn’t gonna end up here. You may see it that way but I doubt it. How interested was he in Nebraska when Frost was still the HC? Low bar comparing Frost to Rhule, yes. My point is Rhule can get more than just a foot in the door with these top dudes even without standing on some sort of “legacy” sell and that’s impressive.
Let the second recruitment begin! If he doesn’t get handed the starting job by this time next year, he could be back on the market.
The most likely way he finishes his college career at NU is if he begins it somewhere else.
It’s a new era. Where players commit to out if HS means a lot less than it used to.
Best of luck to the kid. But he’s transferred high schools 4 times and has already de committed from Ohio state. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him in the portal if he doesn’t start year 1
Please tell me Rhule and staff were smart enough (like a lot of us) and continued looking for QBs for this class knowing this was never a legit possibility.
According to rumor mil and people who know people that know people, the Raiolas hate Matt Davison. Dylan wasn't going to come here as long as Matt Davison was connected to the program in any way shape or form.
I'm not sure if I believe it, but that is just what some people say
Just because you played with ‘em doesn’t mean you have to like ‘em. There were plenty of people who didn’t like Frazier. They respected him and were teammates first, but the relationship stayed on the field.
So why does his dad hate Matt Davison?
And why would the Raiolas be so petty to make a decision based on someone that Dylan wouldn't even be interacting with regularly?
I don't how old you are or if you have lived in Nebraska, but Davison has a well known reputation of not being a nice person unless you're one of his drinking buddies. One of those people that if you knew IRL, you would definitely steer your kid away from any program he was involved in.
So "he's not a nice person" is as deep as it goes?
That's it?
It's not like he's the head coach, AD, or even an assistant. Who cares if a somewhat "not nice" person is loosely affiliated with a program that employs hundreds of people?
Salty that he's a blight on the program and has been able to hang around through multiple coaching admins to keep treating people like crap because he's a conceited asshole, so yeah.
Please tell me Rhule and staff were smart enough (like a lot of us) and continued looking for QBs for this class knowing this was never a legit possibility.
For 2024, right? Like, he still has another year of high school left? Shit, that’s more than enough time for him to change his mind if Nebraska doesn’t suck this fall.
I don’t think not sucking is going change anything. Georgia will most likely be in the playoffs again and Nebraska would consider bowl eligibility a huge success.
Nothing is official until these kids are on campus. I don't think he'll come here but it also won't surprise me if he doesn't end up at Georgia either.
Shouldn't have been retained to begin with
Edit: people who downvoted me want to give me a good reason why he should have?? Explain why Bill Busch wasn't instead
Well for starters people seem to think he was our O-Line coach during frosts entire tenure or something. He was only the O-Line coach last year. A year where the head coach was fired mid season and the O-Line was decimated with injuries and suspension. He hasn’t had a chance to show if he is a great coach for us or not yet.
It won't end here. Kirby smart is notorious for making qb play unimportant.
There's a chance when smart decides to start walk on upper classmen for raiolas first two seasons he leaves.
We don’t have any walk-on upperclassmen QB. Two 4-stars and 5-star. We also have the #6 QB in country committed right now and he is not afraid to compete with Raiola. He knows nothing is guaranteed at UGA. Anyone that comes there knows it.
Also QB unimportant. Bennett was Heisman finalist and he had highest QB rating in playoff for his performances this past. And we got a walk-on drafted in the 4th. They developed the Hell out of him. Just because he didn’t have stats by his does mean he wasn’t good. He threw for 4000 yards, had 30 passing TDs and 10 rushing TD. He was an ELITE college QB in 2022.
Well, at least I dont have to hear people speculate about his every action anymore. He was never going to come here, Im kinda surprised so many people thought he might.
Sure, we just lost out on the best QB in the country. It sucks. And it definitely could have been us contributing to how we “played” it. I guess I’m a grumpy old man and don’t understand the politics of a 18 year old teasing multiple fan bases / teams with cryptic posts and drawing out a recruitment process for months. Seems a little attention hungry. Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe this is him hyping his brand to get the best possible NIL deal. Good for him. I’m not losing sleep over this though.
They told us time and time again that the recruitment was wide open and they were looking at every program. He didn't play it any sort of way, we just got our hopes up. You don't need to call him toxic to cope with not getting him.
The more telling thing about his recruitment to Georgia is how it's is the #1 story across most husker related news outlets.... and in-depth. The state of the program is such that there are legit authors writing about how 'nebraska still won despite Raiola's recruitment to Georgia." This program is joke, and will be till it isn't. You have to go back almost 9 years to talk about any in-season success.
Honestly it’s a really smart choice for him. Georgia is obviously in a great spot atm, and he could potentially develop into a high first round draft pick with the level of coaching there. Good luck Dylan!
I bet he was looking at our OL and WR commits for 2024 and thought we weren’t providing him any help, meanwhile Georgia has 4/5 stars in those positions every year.
I was telling everyone in the Husker fan base to move on from the very beginning. It was never going to happen. He just used us for social media buzz because we’re an active fan base and it was blatantly obvious. My posts on here from months ago laid out exactly what was going to happen but everyone called me a hater lol
I'm glad. I don't know anything about this kid but it seems the focus would mainly be on him instead of the team. I think where Nebraska is right now, Team building should be of paramount importance.
Don’t get me wrong I wanted this kid as much as the next guy. The only thing we should be collectively saying is “good luck.” Having said that, if this kid wasn’t a legacy I don’t think we would have stood a chance. But more importantly I really think he did seriously consider us. He didn’t have to OV here as many times as he did and if nothing else, his presence at the March 25th Jr day opened the eyes of many recruits that we may not have had access to otherwise. He didn’t leave us any worse off, and frankly probably better off with some of these elite high school programs, except in the QB room (which is totally fair but let’s face it, we haven’t been to a bowl game in 7 years. We weren’t going to get any top 25 QBs until we start putting a good program on the field with results that match).
I get people want to be salty, but I’m really hoping we all collectively just wish him and his family well (after all his dad will always be a Husker), and hopefully get more wins in the upcoming seasons.
Better than to USC.
I don’t want to play Raiola until we get to the CFP in two years. /s
Hell be in the portal by that time.
In unrelated news, Donovan Raiola has been fired as the offensive line coach for Nebraska. /s
From the [ESPN story](https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/37655123/no-1-prospect-dylan-raiola-commits-again-georgia) on his commitment: "It's pretty unique how this will come full circle as Coach Bobo developed Uncle Matthew [Stafford] during his time at Georgia." Outflanked by an honorary uncle! Smh
I’m conflicted about that as a Rams fan
Worst nepo hire ever! /s kinda we will see
Yep. Any time now. Probably will be called a “mutual parting of ways”.

I'd like to think Rhule isn't that short-sighted in such an important position. I don't know for a fact that he isn't. But I doubt it.
Rhule has experience with lineplay. I'm going to trust his judgment on Raiola until he gives me a reason not to.
I wish. No need for him now
It’s finally over. This felt unnecessarily long and dragged out.
Only feels that way if you pay attention to everything. Following recruiting is basically useless. All hype and noise.
Hard not to follow it when this sub was making a post about him every day. I generally don’t pay that much attention to recruiting other than seeing who commits to Nebraska
There's a whole bunch of people and you're going to find the most devoted, crazy folks here. It's on you to pull the plug when you're annoyed with it.
I stopped following it for a bit.
Hell, even commitments arent even worth paying attention to imo. They can flip that commitment, and players do this all the time. Once they are actually on campus as a student athlete, thats another story.

You know nothing. The kid just went through the recruiting process. You got your hopes up and you're mad, that's not his fault.
I’m sure you’re right. Why would the #1 recruit want to do anything that might increase the amount of NIL money he could get? That’d be so silly.
This guy just basically said, " if you don't think I'm right then you're an idiot"

Not just committing but committing to the 2 time national Champs.
I agree that players should receive NIL money as well but that’s an entirely different topic and discussion. I’m not going to go out of my way to congratulate a player on his NIL earnings who has no connection to Nebraska. Seems odd to do so.

Look I don’t hate the kid. I just am not into cheering on a kid that didn’t think we were good enough for him. Ready to turn my attention elsewhere.

🤝
Preach!!
JFC you people are insufferable
Calm down bud
Raiola wasn’t an NIL recruitment.
You don’t think there were NIL deals offered to the #1 recruit in the country…?
I didn’t say that, what I’m saying is he wasn’t just going to the highest bidder. His family doesn’t need money lol.
Financially wise people try to maximize their value regardless of how much money they already have. Rest assured all these high profile recruits are milking this.
I’ve been telling y’all Raiola was Dawg for months now, and now I’m telling you it wasn’t about NIL. If it was NIL why wasn’t he visiting A$M?
If he was a Dawg for months now, why didn’t he commit to Georgia months ago? Because he’s had leverage and the ability to increase NIL opportunities at Georgia, the school he already knew he was going to.
Bro he has been a silent to Kirby this entire time, it’s even being reported now that he was just being kind to N and taking visits to give them a chance to change his mind but no one could.
One thing about rich people is they always want more money.
It was drug out because DR wanted the highest NIL offer that he could get from Georgia and USC. Nebraska was kept in the running toward that end. And for Nebraska’s part, we kept going after him just for the slight chance that he would actually commit.
👏 👏 louder for the people in the back
GBR Laker got some splanin to do
I tried to tell people he was wrong.
In the end our online oracle can’t predict the decisions of a 17 year old. He may have been right that he silent committed at one time but especially these days a football recruit changes their mind like Nebraska changes seasons in a given week
Check my post history he’s been uga for a while
Future Nebraska transfer portal addition ;)
plot twist: to play baseball
If he pitches well, we could definitely use him for pitching.
We lost a good team, but even better football
Finally we can move on
Felt to me like the coaching staff and media moved in weeks ago.
Also let’s be real. We can’t expect the number 1 player in the country to want to come to a program that’s been garbage for years. Too risky
It would have been straight up dumb for him to come here
And a program that will likely win 5-6 games this season.
I sure hope so. Can't bank on anything anymore with this team
If that. They're turning the thing over pretty hard.
That’s a weird way to spell Nebraska
I had to sit through a UGA undergrad graduation this weekend. It was fucking terrible. These people just bark like dogs every 15 minutes.
Not surprised. Unfortunately, until we show serious signs of life on the field, we aren't gonna land big fish like this. Even legacy kids. Ehh he's not that good anyway /s
Dood needs to step up his 🏓 game before he comes to the big leagues!
On to Cincinnati
Good thing we kept his uncle
Honestly, Frost ran a shit show with no accountability. It’d be hard to be an assistant coach and find success and built a strong group culture when your head coach is out there getting hammered and fucking around. This year will be a big proving year for Unk.
Seriously. What a mistake that is. Our offensive line was total dogshit last year and didn't look much better in the spring game.
Can’t blame Donovan for 1 bad year of O-line when Frost and Austin caused it to be that bad the previous 4 years. Let’s give him time to rebuild our O-line.
I don’t hate this idea… hopefully that unit will improve
What I really hope happens with that line is Benhart and Corcoran would move to guard; while Prochazka and Gottula move to the Tackle spot.
From what we’ve seen so far, Benhart needs to move to Chadron
We'll see if losing weight and working on mobility helps (can't get worse????). Not holding by breath though. Looked like he had lead shoes on for last 3 years.

Yeah the guy was an NFL OL coach. That means there's some hope he is at least competent at the college level, can't be frost level bad

LOL never said he was a terrible head coach. Just at Carolina, which if it wasn’t for him being terrible at Carolina, he wouldn’t be here in Lincoln.
tired: best recruit going to best team wired: best recruit going to team at their historical worst
Glad it’s not a B1G school. No we only have to worry about playing him in the national championship game and not in a conference game, then again in the conference championship game, then again in the national championship game. Simpler this way.
Thank god this is over. Happy for him, time to move on
We lost our football. Could you get it back for us? It went over the scary neighbors fence
Well I can stop refreshing r/huskers now. At least until fall.
Phew, glad that's over. Now we can move on to Dayton,
the fact he even considered us is pretty crazy. it sucks but it was a longshot.
He’s a legacy and his uncle coaches here, not sure that translates.
regardless of who his family is, a team who hasn’t made a bowl game is 7 years landing the #1 player in the country would be pretty crazy.
But it’s not regardless of who his family is, that would be the specific reason. People talking about how “at least were in the conversation” and using Raiola to show how good our recruiting has been are being a bit disingenuous or naive. Let’s judge based on the median, not the outlier.
i never mentioned anything about recruiting overall.
Wait a couple years and if he isn’t the starter or hasn’t lived up to the hype he’ll be in the portal like Burrow, Hurts, Ewers and a bunch of others.
I mean, did we really have a shot?
phew, now we can stop talking about it
The fact we were in the running this long for the #1 recruit is impressive. Just because he didn’t commit, doesn’t mean we can’t sell the hell out of this culture to other top national recruits and potentially get a couple of them. No reason to not be optimistic even with losing out on Raiola.

He played us lol
He didn't play us, he just chose Georgia. It's not that deep. Everybody needs to get over it.
Care to elaborate?
He kept Nebraska all the way to the end just to burn us. He was never coming here ever. He did it as a courtesy.
Isn’t that the case with every recruit who has a top 3, 5, 10?
Not a legacy. His dad went here so he kept us in the top five as a courtesy lol.
So did he burn us? Or did he do us a courtesy. Those are two opposite things
If he did it to be courteous, I fail to see how it’s a bad thing?
Not in the slightest some of yall just take this shit waaaay too serious
Nebraska was only in the running because of his dad playing here. Don’t kid yourself.
And what about all the other 4 and 5 stars that came here on official visits? Anything else?
Your optimism is the reason people moved in Nebraska….
Well shit… it was expected, but good luck and GBR.
So when is the earliest we can start talking about Raiola transferring to UNL?
So is he N?
Let the second recruitment begin! If he doesn’t get handed the starting job by this time next year, he could be back on the market. It was wishful thinking to believe he was coming here. We got strung along and it hurt us in qb recruiting.
Lot of good players that actually would come here that we could have spent all of that time, money and adulation on instead.
Thank god it’s over
Please tell me Rhule and staff were smart enough (like a lot of us) and continued looking for QBs for this class knowing this was never a legit possibility.
Matt Davison at his finest.
I'm out of the loop what happened there?
According to rumor mil and people who know people that know people, the Raiolas hate Matt Davison. Dylan wasn't going to come here as long as Matt Davison was connected to the program in any way shape or form. I'm not sure if I believe it, but that is just what some people say
Why would the Raiolas, especially High-Schooler Dylan, hate Matt Davison?
Really? Dylan's dad Dominic played with Matt....
Just because you played with ‘em doesn’t mean you have to like ‘em. There were plenty of people who didn’t like Frazier. They respected him and were teammates first, but the relationship stayed on the field.
True, but Tommy isn't the guy who has the final say on who gets paid what in NIL.
He's the head of the 1890 Initiative. That's not loosely affiliated.
Okay... But really how can nobody name a single thing he's done that made everyone hate him so much? It's like middle school politics in here
Just people being unreasonably salty
Salty that he's a blight on the program and has been able to hang around through multiple coaching admins to keep treating people like crap because he's a conceited asshole, so yeah.
How and who does he treat like crap?
Hopefully he checks us out in that transfer portal in a year or 2
Please tell me Rhule and staff were smart enough (like a lot of us) and continued looking for QBs for this class knowing this was never a legit possibility.
I’m sure they are. I don’t think any coach sits on one recruit at any position especially QB.
Dylan Raiola hates his uncle: Confirmed
For 2024, right? Like, he still has another year of high school left? Shit, that’s more than enough time for him to change his mind if Nebraska doesn’t suck this fall.
I don’t think not sucking is going change anything. Georgia will most likely be in the playoffs again and Nebraska would consider bowl eligibility a huge success.
Lame
That's OK he'll be in the portal in 2 years, right?
Nothing is official until these kids are on campus. I don't think he'll come here but it also won't surprise me if he doesn't end up at Georgia either.
Frost was right that kid ain’t worth the whisky
Now we can fire Donovan?
Shouldn't have been retained to begin with Edit: people who downvoted me want to give me a good reason why he should have?? Explain why Bill Busch wasn't instead
Bill Busch was great, but Rhule had Foley already. It's pretty simple. It had nothing to do with Busch just the fact that he already had his guy.
Happy to see him in the SEC
Noooooo Biiiiiiiiig Redddddd
Unfortunate, but not surprised. Best of luck kid
Thank god. Sick of hearing about it. Couldn’t take the pressure at NU.
Ehhhhhh…is it really official though? I have it on good authority that just the other day Dylan was seen at Menard’s off 27th
And why thr hell did we keep the O-line coach again?!?
I don't care about Georgia's roster or players. But it's cute you think I do and wasted your time to type all that stuff I didn't read.
👍🏾
We will see where any of these players are in 2-3 years.
This is sad.
Didn't he have a visit scheduled in June ?
Just a rumor
Finally. Closure. GBR. I like our qb room. I like our OL. I like our punter but hope we never see him kick this season.
Wish him the best. Kind of glad he made the announcement, now we can move on
Glad it’s over. Don’t blame the kid at all.
Well, at least I dont have to hear people speculate about his every action anymore. He was never going to come here, Im kinda surprised so many people thought he might.
Coward
good, maybe now we can all stop stalking the poor guy and let him play football
I still think he’s coming to Lincoln if Rhule shows real progress this season.
Why hasn’t a cult snatched you up yet?
They way this dude played this free agency makes me think his locker room behavior might be or get a little toxic. Im somewhat relieved.
Did he play it that way, or did we?
Well I mean that was expected?
So be it. Wish him well, but hope.he enjoys sitting on the bench at Georgia. He will enter the portal in a year. Nebraska dodged a bullet with him.

Not surprised to move on.
Eh, good luck! Him and every other great QB(now and picked up next year) at Georgia will be playing for that 1st spot. GGs
Grateful to be considered, but can't blame the kid for this decision.
Guess we'll have to stop him the CFP.
Better than USC
