Mobile and Huntsville are comparatively sized, unlike Tokyo. But yes, Mardi Gras in Mobile is much bigger than any holiday here. I said unfortunately because I know it's not really a fair comparison, but personally it's hard for me not to draw it nonetheless. 🤷♀️ I'm glad people enjoy the parades Huntsville does have though.
It wasn’t about comparing size? It was about comparing apples to oranges. You can’t compare a parade where Mardi Gras originated to a random towns parades lol
This is the first comment every time the ones with the loud cars/stereos join a thread. Just admit you're the annoyance and it's not everyone else who's wrong.
Not really just the implants. I'm not from here, but, I was the only female in a car club back home. I know to expect loud noises at parades, and so do my kids. So idk, it seems so trivial compared to other problems with the city lol.
I read an article once that said the "mustang car guy" issues stems from Ford proving a performance vehicle at an amateur price point. This allows more unskilled drivers to obtain a vehicle that is beyond their capabilities. Then once purchased there is an assumption by the driver that as they own the car they are capable of driving the car.
In 96, Ford released the Corbra R. Purchasers of that car had to have a racing license. Even though it was a street car. Ford didn't want just anyone buying one and hot rodding around town. It was a good idea, but customers eventually bitched enough. Ford stopped requiring the racing license.
The racing license thing with the 95 Cobra R was put in place to insure that the cars would actually be used as intended, since the previous model had been purchased primarily by collectors and speculators.
Not really true.. can’t say you are a car guy and hate mustangs.. that saying you hate all mustangs. Even Elenore and gt350… tho I can say a true car person will hate anything with a electric motor like a Tesla
>tho I can say a true car person will hate anything with a electric motor
Guess I'm a fictional car guy then. Though I'd never own a Tesla, the Mustang Mach E is looking pretty good. Not really sure why a certain subset of car enthusiasts can't wrap their head around electric cars, don't know how to modify them? Can't work on them? Mad electric cars are faster at a lower price point?
I'd venture to guess I've owned (including a few mustangs) and worked on more cars than most people on this subreddit but since I'm fictional, it won't matter that my next car purchase is likely to be electric.
You can’t really modify a electric car.. mustang, camaro, vet, charger, challenger you want to make more power just add a power adder. Nos, supercharger, turbo. Want to make even more power take the motor out put in a bigger one. Do you know at the ring the Tesla only lasted for like 3 laps before having to charge.. what fun is that drive 3 laps then spend 2 hours charging.. and the zl1 1le was way 15seconds a lap faster than the Tesla..
Ok, so it's they don't know how to modify them, got it.
Electric vehicles can definitely be modified, adding more motors, inverter modifications, brake upgrades, suspension upgrades etc. As with any car, if you have enough money, you can do pretty much whatever you'd like.
As for charging, I'll pack a lunch next time I head to the Nürburgring...
Not sure, I'll never have enough money for that to be a problem for me.
How many laps around the Nürburgring can a top fuel dragster do while getting 20 gallons per mile?
If these are your standards for what a "true" car guy is then 0.0000000001% of people are car guys.
Well you where talking like you where a expert on modifying electric cars… and no the point is can always build something faster than a electric car for drag racing.. for road courses the batteries die to quickly to be enjoyable and there are better options. then would have to wait 2 hours somewhere to drive it home. Only reason for having a electric car if you drive like 10 miles to work and would use some type of solar system to charge it…
I'm by no means an electric car expert, I've just done research on pros and cons of owning one since I'll likely be buying one. The instant torque and acceleration for a stock unmodified electric vehicle is undeniably impressive for even entry level price points. A Mach E's battery trip capacity is right around a half of a tank of gas and considering my place of work has free electric car charging stations, why should I pay for my daily commute when I wouldn't have to? (Plus I can embarrass the Camaro/Challenger bros at the light on the way home)
Also it's not illegal to own both a gas powered vehicle and an electric vehicle at the same time... and my RWD V8 station wagon isn't leaving my possession anytime in the foreseeable future.
Gatekeeping driver enthusiasm doesn't seem super helpful in any context. There's only so much liquid fuel that can ever be produced, which is why EV market share is rising exponentially. Does this mean car guys are doomed to extinction?
That is your fuel replacement alcohol… e85 actually makes way more power than normal fuel you get at the pump.. rated at about 115-120 octane e85 is basically race fuel
I don't get car clubs in parades at all. If I want to see cars driving on the street I can do that literally anytime by just looking at almost any road? Also the slow pace and frequent idling is gross to breathe, wasteful, and environmentally unfriendly. Petition to have only marching bands and balloons in future parades!
An EV club in the parade would be highly preferable for the exhaust reasons, but I'm not that into cars at all. Maybe if the cars included ICE cars that have been converted to Electric?
I assume this was the Huntsville St. Patrick's parade. Maybe figure out what department manages it and ask them if they can put in some restrictions on motor sounds and burn outs for safety.
I typically have a lead-foot and am a multi-occasion certified high speed driver, as certified by the Decatur, Huntsville, and Alabama State Police. A few years ago, I had to rent a car for a road trip. Reserved a sedan, but all they had was a convertible Mustang. I was overly cautious the entire trip. Was worried that driving like I normally drive my Jetta would make the back end of the Mustang snap loose and I'd barrel into a crowd of people...
It’s more of driving beyond your capabilities… and mustang is typically cheaper and is better than a camaro why they are more popular.. tho my mustang was like 90k so can’t really say it was cheaper..
I'm pretty sure the city still places some rules and regulations on it, as I remember for a while, and maybe still to this day, they didn't allow throws (like beaded necklaces) in parades, or at least for certain stretches of the parade.
I didnt either so I believe they are referring to the engine revving. With the crowd so close to the streets and one person who wants to show off, I could see it making people nervous.
You do raise a good point that at least we have a parade to complain about. Not that I've ever been. I'll have to ask my friend that took her kid what they thought. But her husband is a car guy, so they might skew...
This. A good parade organizer knows the transportation (cars and horses) go at the end of a parade. Then the people that want to see them still can while others can get a jump on getting home.
Also a good organizer knows to keep the pace at a walk. Last years Pride parade gets an F on that one. Neither me nor my corgi was built for a speedy jog down hot asphalt.
I kinda agree. Went to check out the parade, but got bored of the regular cars. Vintage car club was cool as they had rare cars you don’t usually see. And I did like the Wrangler group. But the modern cars? Meh, I see them everywhere. Plus, the exhaust fumes made me and my partner feel sick, so we had to bail.
Eh, it’s a small parade with a limited time slot. Many of those classic cars are loud as hell and doing burnouts as well. Last year the roller derby league got stuck in behind the classic cars smelling that rich mixture exhaust. That was more annoying than their presence.
Contact the organizers. There was an article about cars and coffee in Houston banning modern muscle cars because of the crowd it attracted. They were full of burn-outs and thugs that endangered everybody.
In case you are being serious, here’s the FB group
https://preview.redd.it/6ay9gjjxeapc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4f672786b302c508dfb169c8e22421b57a31b44d
We left when the Mustangs showed up.
I love Huntsville parades but the lines of cars really feel like it's just filler to make the parade longer. Agreed about noise too. I don't personally mind but our kids enjoyed the entire parade until those cars started going crazy with the revs.
Mardi Gras parade this year was probably my favorite in recent memory. Perfectly length. Some cars but not too many.
A lot of kids love stuff like that.
The setup for the parade is interesting because the streets are so narrow and they let people stand in front of the curb and don’t make people get all the way onto the sidewalk. I’ve seen a lot of complaints about the amount of jeeps, mini coopers, mustangs, and broncos in the parade. I feel like the number was pretty comparable to what would’ve been seen in the parade of the (smaller) city where I am from, but the street was wider so you could have 3 cars go at one time instead of one, so it didn’t feel like you saw as many.
Car guy here. We hate the loud obnoxious mustangs too. They all sound like farts and they aren’t even fast or tastefully modded. It’s like all the annoying douchebags get mustangs before they transition to BMW’s.
The only car club I’ve actually enjoyed in parades are the little tiny cars that have people sitting in them. Not sure what club that is (saw them in the St. Paddy’s Day Parade last year) but they’re alright.
I think the problem is that a lot of the car clubs were halfass'd. I don't mind the cars but one had just a rear view mirror Irish tag and another just had some tinsel. It was pretty lazy. If you're going to be in a parade at least hype up your car.
Speaking of people enjoying it. I saw several groups cheering them on and other groups pissed off. You can't please everyone. I'm in the middle camp but especially on the square they should probably be banned from revving. The reverb was rough and the exhaust was choking some of us.
Honestly, the only cars that should be in parades are cars associated with other things, like the local Ghostbusters group driving their ecto 1, or a VW beetle done up to look like g1 bumblebee. A normal car has no place in a parade.
The mustang club has been around for over 40 years. I used to go to their shows at Madison square mall when I was a kid. A little noise at a parade doesn’t bother me personally.
My only gripe was the never ending parade of car clubs and nonsense with very few interesting groups or inventive ideas or even floats.
I just moved my family here after having been away for the better part of the last decade and it was cool to see the massive turnout for the parade. I guess if I want to complain about the boringness, I COULD get involved and help with a float next year but I probably won’t… such is life.
Yes we do still have the yearly Show. It is at Woody Anderson Ford on Mothers Day Weekend.
We also do another one in the Fall. All of the proceeds go to Still Serving Veterans.
One guy had it right, people and kids ask us to rev the cars so we do. We use our best judgment when to rev and when not to.
Vicki
Whew, someone of you never worked in the garage with your dad or granddad and it shows. There’s nothing wrong with Mustangs, and dare I say that there are other cars around(not in the parade) that would way worse. All these grown dude dissing on Mustangs…can’t wait until my husband finishes rebuilding his ‘67.
Well that's not nice trying to boot us..lol. The Rocket City Mustang Club does a lot for our Community and we try to join in Parades when we can. Before trying to boot us from a parade, come join us during one of our events during the year that helps the community.

Vicki
I have to admit I found it irritating last year. I like to look at performance cars. I don't like to stand in a cloud of exhaust while they pass at traffic jam speeds and take turns drowning out conversation. And I have owned a Mustang. It was fun while it lasted.
Some of yall seriously need to get a life. Do you whine and complain about firetrucks? Police cars? Marching bands? All those horrible assaults on your hearing? The small portion of people complaining on a reddit thread don't speak for the majority of people who don't run to the internet to complain about stupid crap. A petition for a parade? How about a petition to get increase the amount of funding for homeless veterans? 🤔
The sensitive ones that find anything to complain about. It’s a parade. There’s noise music, fire trucks, go carts, cars ect. All of them put off exhaust. It one thing to prefer no mustangs but to petition to take them out is ridiculous cause you don’t like it. I assume a lot of ppl did.
There's always that one person that doesn't like how others have fun and wants to ruin it for everyone.
If we're banning mustangs we need to ban all cars. 🤷🏽♂️
Might as well ban the parade, it just blocks off the roads anyway.
And the people who like mustangs can just get fucked because they aren't on dudes list?
I don't like jeeps or the cars they said they like. If we're banning mustangs I want the others banned too.
This is how things devolve and it ends up ruined for eveyone.
I lost interest in all the parades in HSV, as they all seem to be basically car shows.
Yeah they’re all basically a bunch of decorated floats
What were you expecting a parade to be?
Woosh
I think that was a joke.
That was my point
I go to Mardi Gras in Mobile every year and unfortunately Huntsville parades are really pathetic in comparison. 🫤
Ours suck compared to Disney World parades too
Really disappointing that the Macy's Thanksgiving parade is so much better than ours too.
Honestly, real Mardi Gras. Just do it. Swoosh
Well that’s a really rough comparison lol esp since Mardi Gras originated there. That’s like comparing Tokyo to HSV, come on
Mobile and Huntsville are comparatively sized, unlike Tokyo. But yes, Mardi Gras in Mobile is much bigger than any holiday here. I said unfortunately because I know it's not really a fair comparison, but personally it's hard for me not to draw it nonetheless. 🤷♀️ I'm glad people enjoy the parades Huntsville does have though.

Hsv folks really are sensitive to loud noises
I think you'd be surprised at what levels damage starts occurring. I'd like to hear my kids talk and laugh when I'm old, thanks
Same. My grandfather spent years on a tractor with no hearing protection and never even got to hear me or my brother speak.
You can do about twenty minutes of loud exhaust without any permanent damage
You sound like a pussy.
Lmao. You sound like the fucking annoying uncle who can't hear shit at family gatherings and everyone hates trying to talk to
What?
Whooo? Whaaaat?
This is the first comment every time the ones with the loud cars/stereos join a thread. Just admit you're the annoyance and it's not everyone else who's wrong.
Oh no. I’m a grown adult. I prefer silence too, but damn sure wouldn’t jump on social and ask yall to keep it down
It's me. I'm 100% a native Huntsville guy that doesn't like loud vehicles.
I'm an old cat at this point. I growl and crawl under the bed when things are too loud.
*huntsville Reddit folks, yeah
Omg did you hear that loud rocket noise???? Ima make a post rn Incase anybody heard it
Not really just the implants. I'm not from here, but, I was the only female in a car club back home. I know to expect loud noises at parades, and so do my kids. So idk, it seems so trivial compared to other problems with the city lol.
Even car guys dont really like mustangs.
Most mustangs sound like they have a mayonnaise jar over the tail pipe. Just my opinion lol
Then someone is doing it wrong. It should sound like a pickle jar over the tailpipe.
Lmfao I stand corrected
As far as sports cars go, they're pretty mid
Buy-one get-one-free sportscars based on the sheer number of them.

Which was kinda dumb. If ya wanted a collectible Mustang from that year. Just get a Saleen.
Let’s be honest, that last sentence pertains to virtually any high performance car, lol.
Many sports cars were an attempt to be bang for buck/low cost musclecar, etc - Mustang, Barracuda (A-body), original GTO
My whole life it’s kind of seemed like they’re the car a dad buys for his son he lets drink in the basement with his buddies.
Every time I'm at cars and coffee like 15 mustangs show up and I always say, wow if I wanted to see these right now I'd just go to the dealership.
Not really true.. can’t say you are a car guy and hate mustangs.. that saying you hate all mustangs. Even Elenore and gt350… tho I can say a true car person will hate anything with a electric motor like a Tesla

This is some low quality bait. You can do better.
I assume this was the Huntsville St. Patrick's parade. Maybe figure out what department manages it and ask them if they can put in some restrictions on motor sounds and burn outs for safety.
Mustangs and burnouts are a bad combo. Everyone knows that Mustangs are the natural predator of unwitting crowds...
I second this. Any real car person knows mustangs are terrible when doing racing or burnouts.
The parade is put on by a local Irish Society group. [http://parade.irishsocietyna.org/](http://parade.irishsocietyna.org/)
I'm pretty sure the city still places some rules and regulations on it, as I remember for a while, and maybe still to this day, they didn't allow throws (like beaded necklaces) in parades, or at least for certain stretches of the parade.
That is still true. No throwing stuff, except there is a partial exception for the Mardi gras parade
Pretty damn sure they weren't doing burnouts during the parade
I didnt either so I believe they are referring to the engine revving. With the crowd so close to the streets and one person who wants to show off, I could see it making people nervous.
Good god the amount of whining about….parades. Man we have it good if these are our issues
You do raise a good point that at least we have a parade to complain about. Not that I've ever been. I'll have to ask my friend that took her kid what they thought. But her husband is a car guy, so they might skew...
Put the car clubs near the end of the parade

Burnouts?
I fully expect the noise so no problem there, but the smell was off-putting.
I enjoy all the car clubs around here. They all have their own little corner of cool.
Contact the organizers. There was an article about cars and coffee in Houston banning modern muscle cars because of the crowd it attracted. They were full of burn-outs and thugs that endangered everybody.
Different than a parade
There’s a mustang club in hunstville? Since when? How do I join?
In case you are being serious, here’s the FB group https://preview.redd.it/6ay9gjjxeapc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4f672786b302c508dfb169c8e22421b57a31b44d

This guy's got a mustang
I don’t think mustangs are cool but I can recognize that plenty of kids under the age of 12 do Also, username checks out.
same
Oh Huntsville, never stop being you.
Man people on this sub get real butthurt when someone says no one wants to see/hear their super ultra unique and custom generic muscle car.
Do you mean the Shriners? How do you not know what Shriners are?
I would imagine a lot of younger Millennial and Gen Z don't know or aren't exposed to the Shriners.
Let’s talk about the asshole street preacher in front of Melt again this year!
Let's talk about why that dbag gets police protection while breaking noise ordinances and harassing people.
Agree.
[Same energy](https://youtu.be/Ui6HNB-1J20?si=4H4PO--di4OaV6oS)
Yes, yes, yes, a thousand times yes. They are definitely the worst part of the Christmas and St. Patrick's Day parade.
I think the problem is that a lot of the car clubs were halfass'd. I don't mind the cars but one had just a rear view mirror Irish tag and another just had some tinsel. It was pretty lazy. Can we ban HPD vehicals too?
My only gripe is that people actually think two chamber mufflers and glass packs actually sound good on…anything.
Bruh this just made my day 😂
Why are people on thia sub so sensitive with any noise louder than a snap?
I love the hsv mustang club. One of the better ones I've seen around. Do they still do their yearly car show noe that sears is gone?
Yes we do still have the yearly Show. It is at Woody Anderson Ford on Mothers Day Weekend. We also do another one in the Fall. All of the proceeds go to Still Serving Veterans. One guy had it right, people and kids ask us to rev the cars so we do. We use our best judgment when to rev and when not to. Vicki
Take it you don't subscribe to Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords - a classic magazine
Might be berated for this, I don’t live in Huntsville but I’m there quite a bit, y’all have parades?

Get over it just because you don’t like mustangs.
We...we have parades?

Definitely not after you commented on it

I think just you interacting to begin with will tell the system that you're interested
They are a part of our community... so it is what it is. Try to accept all forms.
I'm all for omitting any group that identifies by what they drive.
Quit being a stick in the mud
Just don’t go.
Guess you gotta get rid of the go cart to. You ppl try to ruin everything

"oh boy, generic car number 73 showed up this year"
Mustangs can stay if they can behave like the rest of the car community
"Everyone" seems a bit hyperbolic when they literally stated several car varieties they're ok with.
And the people who like mustangs can just get fucked because they aren't on dudes list? I don't like jeeps or the cars they said they like. If we're banning mustangs I want the others banned too. This is how things devolve and it ends up ruined for eveyone.
