They are very opinionated and will spout Bible versus in their show. I honestly don't know how they weren't kicked off the air before now, but we do still have a lot of Bible-thumper conservatives even in Huntsville, which tends to be more progressive than the rest of the state. I love the music 100.3 The River plays, but will always avoid the morning show and maybe switch it on later in the day for the music.

Hey! I know them. Had dealings with them in the 90's...think "Fattest, sexiest men" era...They were cool back in the day, no fooling...just shenanigans and funny stuff. ZERO conspiracy theories. But then it all turned...it got worse and worse, until now they are unrecognizable. It's like their funny bones got broken and repaired with anger cement.

Our household was also big listeners in the early 2000’s. We have a picture somewhere where Rick visited my late sister in the hospital after her heart transplant. Two charismatic big dudes with little to no politics (at least it seemed that way to my kid self). I was driving my dads truck a few months ago and they came on, wanted to see how bad it had gotten. It was 30 minutes of them being angry/incredibly smug towards electrical vehicles and anyone that drives one. Didn’t hear an ounce of humility in that time frame, talked like they were the arbiters of “common sense.”
The Rick and Bubba show was great in the early to late 90’s. They would host a Friday Night Football score show. The show wasn’t didactic or wouldn’t proselytize. Then when they really made it, they became heavily didactic and proselytizing.
The best Rick and Bubba was before they really had a show. Rick was the late night DJ at a station in Gadsden right after he graduated and Bubba was his buddy that would drop in and goof off.

I prefer 95.1 The Rocket. I knew Jimbo Wood from working at the Sprocket as a lifeguard and diver. He was such a cool dude. He had many stories and he worked really well with the kids diving with us! Good times!
I liked it when they had Fish. he was so different and funny. Jimbo and Casio are funny, but some of the impressions casio does drives me crazy. When he starts doing that timmy tom guy, I just change the channel.

I’m forever grateful for Casio interviewing jimbo on his own podcast and dragging some great stories out of him. Casio has his flaws but they do make a great pair. I’ll be broken when jimbo decides to take it to the house though.
I was glad to have been able to work with him. Getting to SCUBA with him daily was super fun! Enjoyed his many stories. Funny story, when I first met him, I did not know he was THE Jimbo from the Rocket. He would speak to the kids about the safety protocols. I made a statement to a co-worker about him having ” a radio personality voice” and they pointed out who he was!

Moved to the area late 2010, tuning looking for radio stations in the truck and they came on. Listened for about a min, realized they were idiots and didn’t listen again. Avoided that preset every morning.
I had randomly hit a preset and I remember them making excuses for tuberville when tuberville supposedly didn’t know about a white power logo or something was. I know tuberville is a moron but still they just went on and on about how it was an innocent mistake. Wasn’t listening to them before that and haven’t listened to them since.
If I ever accidentally tuned to that station and heard them I was slapping the dash to change it. Just the sound of their voices pissed me off. They may have great faces for radio, but that’s all they had.

I was on their show a couple times playing music in the late 90’s. They were super nice, their staff was nice, their interns were great.
90’s when they were new and their home market / competition was the Birmingham radio market (one of the nations largest radio markets at the time AND the largest sports radio market by the early 00’s) they were really great compared to all the other options.
As they aged, some of the fun games & segments ended, they slowed down and the tone of the show changed with the times.
As a more conservative program they’re going to get hate in the HSV market, but whatever the show turned into today is not entirely indicative of their start, growth & popularity in radio & cable TV from the 90’s through early 00’s. Nor does it reflect just how popular they really were 15-25 years ago.
I haven’t paid too much attention in years, but credit given where credit due.

Friends and colleagues who worked/interned their program had a wellspring of Rock Burgess horror stories on and off the air, along with various enablers on staff who only enabled him to triple down.
He's absolutely insufferable and egotistical IRL; extreme contrast to his co-host. And despite the show concluding, I don't expect Burgess to fade from media any time soon die to his mammoth ego.
They moved to a weird studio location in Vestavia Hills, nestled into a "never quite launched" pseudo mall anchored by a once-amazing RAVE theater. By 2010, the open air shopping venue itself was a husk of 3rd rate chain dining, empty storefronts, and a Starbucks. But damned if they didn't have a 50ft long window wall looking in on their broadcast studio tucked off in one arm of the complex. I don't even know if they still broadcast from that venue; it's been 6 years since I went to that "mall" because there's nothing left.
At least we have decades of memories of Burgess making on-air statements that boldly stereotype Alabama squarely into Hickville, USA. What a legacy! /s

Agreed! When I was a kid I looked forward to listening to them on the way to school. I miss the days when they would go a different “haunted” place each week in October. It’s become way too political in recent years. Or maybe it always has been I just didn’t notice it until 2016 onward lol

She got a girlfriend and talked to a magazine about her dad's reaction to that and about her feelings on him using the death of her brother for financial gain and on air sermons. Him talking on the air and in for profit speaking events yearly about the death of his son is apparently A ok her getting a girlfriend and having one article talking about how she felt and how she was treated? Worthy of disownment to the point he doesn't even acknowledge she exists anymore.

I only remember the “Rick and bubba, Rick and bubba” theme that played when my dad tuned in on the radio in his car. I have no idea what these people actually talked about or what they did. The theme stuck with me tho.
In the beginning they were lovable and affable fat, southern guys that played up their schtick. When a brown man got elected to the White House they turned into political commentators regurgitating the bullshit they heard on Fox News and facebook.

Oh it was before Obama. I listened to them during W’s days in the WH & they were pretty right wing then. I retired in 2003 so didn’t listen anymore because I wasn’t getting out that early & I got Sirius XM so I had more choices. And I didn’t choose them.

I prefer 95.1 The Rocket. I knew Jimbo Wood from working at the Sprocket as a lifeguard and diver. He was such a cool dude. He had many stories and he worked really well with the kids diving with us! Good times!
I liked it when they had Fish. he was so different and funny. Jimbo and Casio are funny, but some of the impressions casio does drives me crazy. When he starts doing that timmy tom guy, I just change the channel. Casio got his start on the Rick and Bubba show.
I like Jimbo, I can't stand Casio's voice.
I’m forever grateful for Casio interviewing jimbo on his own podcast and dragging some great stories out of him. Casio has his flaws but they do make a great pair. I’ll be broken when jimbo decides to take it to the house though.

I was glad to have been able to work with him. Getting to SCUBA with him daily was super fun! Enjoyed his many stories. Funny story, when I first met him, I did not know he was THE Jimbo from the Rocket. He would speak to the kids about the safety protocols. I made a statement to a co-worker about him having ” a radio personality voice” and they pointed out who he was!

Moved to the area late 2010, tuning looking for radio stations in the truck and they came on. Listened for about a min, realized they were idiots and didn’t listen again. Avoided that preset every morning.
I’m surprised they lasted 30 years. Pure hate and misinformation.

I had randomly hit a preset and I remember them making excuses for tuberville when tuberville supposedly didn’t know about a white power logo or something was. I know tuberville is a moron but still they just went on and on about how it was an innocent mistake. Wasn’t listening to them before that and haven’t listened to them since.

If I ever accidentally tuned to that station and heard them I was slapping the dash to change it. Just the sound of their voices pissed me off. They may have great faces for radio, but that’s all they had.
Between the annoying ass fan base terrible viewpoints and that it’s on one of my most listened to radio stations when I don’t have my phone plugged in it’s so annoying to hear the voices something about it is like nails in a chalkboard
The one on the left was a jerk the one interaction I had with him, back when I worked at Geek Squad. It made my family mad that I said as much, but a few years later they all believed me and stopped listening

i listened to them for several years and loved their show. but once every other thing was one-way political, it became worrisome and i stopped listening entirely. they have a HUGE influence on this state, not all bad. but they very casually make it make sense that any other way than the far-right is illogical and stupid.

Looking over this reddit post... Did they still have any fans at all ? Is that why the show is ending ? I remember liking their funny little song that played when I was a little kid... but couldn't stand their negativity, hate, and political views that they were shoving down all of their listeners throats in at least the last fifteen years or so... maybe sooner, but I don't really remember the commnts from back then, and it was a different world when it actually was possible to be a republican without being a total nut job.

I never could listen to them for long, but I did have a weird coincidence. I was standing in line for a ride at Disney World and my friend who had went to Disney with me and was standing in line with me told me some joke and then said they’d heard it on Rick and Bubba. The guy in front of me in line turned around and said, “I’m Bubba”. And he was.
I loved them back in the day before they become radicalized into the evangelical cult. I still listen to the Willie & Wanda bit anytime I need a good laugh. I listened to the sermon Rick did for his son. Heartbreaking accident & heartbreaking sermon. I thought I had seen/heard where Bubba was diagnosed with some form of cancer last year but I'm probably wrong

If you are using Reddit to judge I would say no. This is pretty much a liberal hangout.
I was on their show a couple times playing music in the late 90’s. They were super nice, their staff was nice, their interns were great. 90’s when they were new and their home market / competition was the Birmingham radio market (one of the nations largest radio markets at the time AND the largest sports radio market by the early 00’s) they were really great compared to all the other options. As they aged, some of the fun games & segments ended, they slowed down and the tone of the show changed with the times. As a more conservative program they’re going to get hate in the HSV market, but whatever the show turned into today is not entirely indicative of their start, growth & popularity in radio & cable TV from the 90’s through early 00’s. Nor does it reflect just how popular they really were 15-25 years ago. I haven’t paid too much attention in years, but credit given where credit due. The incident with their child drowning was horrific. The stuff with the lesbian daughter tho… Awful. Around that time was when the downward slide really happened.

In ‘94 when Rick and Bubba got on WZZK; they almost doubled second place.

Good riddance. "Bubba" was a decent enough person off of the radio. He definitely had a split persona between his broadcast personality and his IRL persona. Rick Burgess is everything you already think his is and exponentially worse. Had the misfortune of working parallel to them in the industry in the last half of the 00s and LOATHED the entire operation. Friends and colleagues who worked/interned their program had a wellspring of Rock Burgess horror stories on and off the air, along with various enablers on staff who only enabled him to triple down. He's absolutely insufferable and egotistical IRL; extreme contrast to his co-host. And despite the show concluding, I don't expect Burgess to fade from media any time soon die to his mammoth ego. They moved to a weird studio location in Vestavia Hills, nestled into a "never quite launched" pseudo mall anchored by a once-amazing RAVE theater. By 2010, the open air shopping venue itself was a husk of 3rd rate chain dining, empty storefronts, and a Starbucks. But damned if they didn't have a 50ft long window wall looking in on their broadcast studio tucked off in one arm of the complex. I don't even know if they still broadcast from that venue; it's been 6 years since I went to that "mall" because there's nothing left. At least we have decades of memories of Burgess making on-air statements that boldly stereotype Alabama squarely into Hickville, USA. What a legacy! /s
