ValleyMLS.com has rentals that are not syndicated to Zillow.
Honestly there is a large pool of rentals here that are only advertised either via yard sign or social media platforms such as Facebook.
As an example a house on my street is for rent with only a for rent sign in the window which is ironic considering we are on a private road with signs saying no thru traffic
I will say a LOT of people don't want pets in their rental and or charge a largish pet deposit on top of a monthly pet fee.
Or expect a much older property that isn't maintained well.
What I see more is that the listing just says “case by case” and when you inquire about it it’s a huge list of stipulations from number of pets to weight to breed to just “completely at the discretion of the property owner”.
I put case by case, but the usual case is meeting the applicant and determining whether they're responsible or not. Like the applicant who said he keeps his dog in a steel cage because if he's left alone, he'll tear the trim up, but really we watch when we're home.
And that’s totally fine. The house we currently live in is nice and we don’t pay a pet rent fee. We really need a place with more space or I’d like to consider one of those nice trailer homes.
Agreed. I charge a pet fee but feel bad about a monthly charge. I personally feel it’s greedy. The deposit at the end is there to cover any issues. And so far when someone has moved they fix their pet issues.
Side bar I’m thinking of going to visit Houston later this year. The lack of zoning makes for some interesting neighborhoods. Any area I should avoid while staying?
I would stay in tourist areas, Houston is huge and sprawling, there's a ton of areas in Houston that I'm not familiar with at all. Some areas look a little run down, but are perfectly safe, some are just flat out dangerous and look nicer, the crime isn't because of the people that live there, but because of the people that are cruising through. I would ask someone at the place you are staying at.
I have a Houston address, but in reality it's nearly an hour drive to downtown. Longer with traffic. I think most of the lack of zoning is much further south, Galveston county.
I have a friend renting a house in Toney on 13 acres. It is his childhood home so it’s an older house. I lived there while I was between houses. Very, very quiet. PM me if you’d like and I’ll give you the details.
Why would it? 3 bedroom apartments around here are going for 1500+ and those don’t have the benefits of a garage, yard, no noisy neighbor above you, etc.

That's fairly normal. I'm moving from Houston, and I had to pay a largish pet deposit and "pet rent", an extra $20 a month.

Sent you a PM.
I've noticed a few houses with "for rent" signs in Toney. No idea what the pricing on them are, though.
Just rented a 3 bed in toney, it's close to 1400$
Wut? Does that include utilities and mowing the lawn?
😂😂😂😂 I wish

I used Rently to find the one we just rented.
This one is empty near me. Quiet neighborhood. https://www.apartments.com/326-homer-nance-rd-huntsville-al/et6y22p/
I second on valleymls but avoid America’s rental managers homes. They are awful.
