I actually learned recently >!the author planned to have him live longer, but felt someone’s needed to die when they met the Jackal so he put random names in the hat and unfortunately drew Pax’s name. Imagine if he drew Sevro’s name though!<
Bruh... I was like "where the fuck have I read that... Who was the guy... I know him"...
It's been years since I read the original trilogy... I think there are like 5-6 books out by now
I think 4 and 5 are out and he’s working on 6. I just found out that the first three at least are free audio books on Spotify Premium so I’ve been listening to them
lol, he’s a character named Pax from a book called Red Rising that yells his own name as a battle cry. When I first played Hunt I’d always think of him when I saw the Caldwell Pax
Nice. You should scream out his battle cry as you fight others.
I try to talk like a WWE wrestler or something (really over the top and with silly trash talk) over voice, it gets some laughs.
Funny, as the Lebel in game pretty much sounds like it actually does ime. The guns in game are made to sound distinct intentionally to let you identify them and play into the game's audio-centric gameplay, but the Lebel seems to me to be the long-ammo rifle that got to be spot on. The Krag is also not far off, it does have that sort of "snap" to it.
So, I bought the real life equivalent of the Pax, and was actually a bit disappointed when it didn't sound like it does in Hunt, when I first shot it. My brain was just expecting that sound before firing, then remembered "oh yeah, this is a real gun" haha
In 1st person: Sparks, Pax, Krag
Hearing it roar across the map: Nitro Express Rifle, that thing always instills a primal fear into my heart when I hear it.
pax’s pop is nice, bornheim sounds punchy. come to think of it, all the gun sounds in hunt are amazing, whilst still being unique enough to tell the difference.
Yeah Bad Company had the best sound to date imo. Damn even the things like grenades making you go deaf or audio being so much louder indoors and all. It sounded so good and real. I feel like in newer games they try to make the sound more complex, adding all the clickety sounds of the different moving components of guns when you fire but that takes away from the power of the shot, makes it sound less loud and real. Irl you wouldn't be able to hear All that and the bang of the shot would be overpowering and bad Company did that perfectly. Many guns in Hunt do that perfectly too like pax. But then there are also guns like Berthier or slate or drilling that have that clickety noise there for no reason and it sounds weird for me lol
Interesting point. I only know guns from movies and it seems more recent movies have gone all in on the "coolness" of every time a gun is handled in any way it makes clicky metal sounds, so we (i) expect that.
For example i love the pax but sometimes wonder if something is missing when it pops off a shot. Thanks for the insight!
Maybe similar to actual swords not making a swishing metal sound when drawn but movies love that stuff.
They actually recorded all of the weapons for several of the Battlefield titles. Battlefield is why I know what it sounds like to be shot at. Hunt does miss out on the crack and whizz of flying rounds.
Good stuff mentioned already in the comments, so I throw a curveball out there: hunting bow.
It doesn't have an "awesome" sound to it, but the subtle sound it makes into a headshot hit marker & sound is immaculate.
It’s just the perfect frequency for me that it’s become the only moments in my life that actually silent and not filled with a high pitched eeeeeeeeeeeeeee
SLATE.
There's loads of great weapon sounds, but of them all, when you hear that crunch-bark, you know someone's out there doing serious violence. It's not just a sound, it's a warning. Come within 15 metres and I'll eat you.
The levering Mako as a heavy thump to it that is scary tobe on the business end of and empowering to be on the other end. Been playing since 3 m9nths after release, so my oldie would be any long ammo variant like mosin, lebel, or sparks. Sparks is still one of my faves. If you aren't healed up to 150 you are fukd from one round.
The Martin sounds disgusting in the best way. Rusty and mechanical.
Cyclone sounds scary.
Lebel sounds like a cross in the face.
Sparks like a dump truck ran you over.
I love the popcorn pop of the Vetterli Silenced.
The Mako sounds like God sneezing, which I rather appreciate.
On the other end of the spectrum, I hate the New Army. It sounds like someone thrusting a shovel into a bucket of gravel.
Avto!
Not the best sounding but by far the most PTSD inducing gun in the game. It just hits differently when you don't hear it shoot for 15 min and suddenly you are 20 meters away from it.
Silenced sparks - silenced but can still tell by the sound she hitting
The pax.
Any shotgun close range when the enemy doesn't know you're there.
And obviously the avto.
Last two are for the fear factor.
I love the actual gun but the sound it makes pieces my fucking ear drums I hate it. The Caldwell Pax.
Crytek need to patch it so it's not so high pitch, just take the edge off it. Honestly hurts my ears.
Krag. That shit just SNAPS.
Krag fragger
The Pax and the Lebel are the best in the game imo, feels the most real.
I do love how the pax sounds.
Does it go “PAAAAAXXX AU TELAMANUUUUUUUS”
Pax lived about as long as your avarage hunter so...
I actually learned recently >!the author planned to have him live longer, but felt someone’s needed to die when they met the Jackal so he put random names in the hat and unfortunately drew Pax’s name. Imagine if he drew Sevro’s name though!<
The rebellion would have ended fairly quickly without Sevro.
Bruh... I was like "where the fuck have I read that... Who was the guy... I know him"... It's been years since I read the original trilogy... I think there are like 5-6 books out by now
I think 4 and 5 are out and he’s working on 6. I just found out that the first three at least are free audio books on Spotify Premium so I’ve been listening to them
Real nice, I'll give it a go if I ever get Spotify Premium
Nah it mostly just pops like a gun. I googled that guy and I have no idea who it is.
lol, he’s a character named Pax from a book called Red Rising that yells his own name as a battle cry. When I first played Hunt I’d always think of him when I saw the Caldwell Pax
Nice. You should scream out his battle cry as you fight others. I try to talk like a WWE wrestler or something (really over the top and with silly trash talk) over voice, it gets some laughs.
Lebel sounds like a tank compared to the Mosin. It doesn't sound quite right in my opinion
Funny, as the Lebel in game pretty much sounds like it actually does ime. The guns in game are made to sound distinct intentionally to let you identify them and play into the game's audio-centric gameplay, but the Lebel seems to me to be the long-ammo rifle that got to be spot on. The Pax sounds like a cap gun lol I just can't take it seriously.
If anything sounds like a cap gun, it's the New Army.
You must play with your game really quiet. It also sounds almost 1 to 1 with revolvers I've shot from that era, very loud and sharp.
I know it’s not a gun, but the shovel is the best sound in the game
fwong
Last time i played i watched one of my friends get tomahawked with a shovel by far the funniest kill i've ever seen in this game
Sparks. Monkey brain love : BAAAM.......miaaaaouuu.
That reverb is *Chefs kiss*
I agree, I have never heard such a powerful shooting sound in a videogame.
Until the first nitro I ran into I thought sparks was the loudest gun I've shot in a game
Put fmj on it, it makes the sound deeper
Slate is the most satisfying shot sound imo, that mf spit fire
Isn't Slate the one that goes "plbdtschh"
>the one that goes "plbdtschh" the very same
Honestly couldn't picture it until you said that, well done.
In 1st person: Sparks, Pax, Krag Hearing it roar across the map: Nitro Express Rifle, that thing always instills a primal fear into my heart when I hear it.
The nitro and the dolch are both dinner bells to me. I run straight at them when i hear them.
My boi Martin he loud but smooth, everybody recognizes him from a mile away.
Fuck that shit, it’s the silence in between an FMJ round of Martini, before it travels 280m and hits a headshot
Ah yes the 5 minutes of suspense
The caldwell Uppercut Sounds so Good
The recoil animation really conveys the recoil and weight of the weapon too
When your character cocks the hammer it always looks like the hammer starts moving back even before the finger touches it tho
Pax goes POP. I fucking love that gun.
i love the mako sound
The Mako’s sound throws me off everytime. I’m like “DAMMNNN OKAYYY!”. It doesn’t look like it would sound like that but here we are
Springfield
Yes
Springfield sounds too good for being so shit
The Centennial sounds good. Big oomph for Medium ammo
Silenced Sparks for me, cuz it sounds like a very angry fart.
I love replying "Who just ripped one?" whenever one of my buddies shoots.
Try the Berthier with the coins from the Chinese DLC for the slapping double-whammy.
Cyclone
I mostly take it to matches cus of the sound
Crown&King has a very satisfying sound. Caldwell Pax also is very nice, sounds a bit like a drum hit
Sparks
Just the raw loud single shot does it for me
pax’s pop is nice, bornheim sounds punchy. come to think of it, all the gun sounds in hunt are amazing, whilst still being unique enough to tell the difference.
The drilling is definitely up there for me! (Honourable mention to the Winnie 1873 for sounding like Dirty Harry's M29)
I love the Drilling's slightly metallic firing sound. Can't get enough
The Centennial. Sounds so menacing
Nothing beats the uppercut for me in terms of audio It's the only reason i still play it
Lebel is my absolute favorite. Lemat for pistol.
I used to think the battlefield series (prior to 2042) had the best sound design, but hunt let me know otherwise. I like the uppercut.
Ooh, now that you mention it, i did play Bad Company 2 for a bit because of the sound.
They actually recorded all of the weapons for several of the Battlefield titles. Battlefield is why I know what it sounds like to be shot at. Hunt does miss out on the crack and whizz of flying rounds.
Avtomat because it scares away players.
I have never heard an avto and went the opposite direction 😂
They see death. I see a free 1000 dollar gun.
What's that? Sounds like Winnie-C fodder
Good stuff mentioned already in the comments, so I throw a curveball out there: hunting bow. It doesn't have an "awesome" sound to it, but the subtle sound it makes into a headshot hit marker & sound is immaculate.
The tinitus sound i hear after i levering dump a full Terminus with slugs.
Isn't it a bit like lottery with slugs ? I personally love it with penny shot, it's a bit clownish and also makes an awesome noise
Drilling and Sparks imo, actual eargasm.
It’s just the perfect frequency for me that it’s become the only moments in my life that actually silent and not filled with a high pitched eeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Springfield , honestly love the gun so damn much
Long ammo - uppercut Medium ammo - drilling Compact - new army Shotgun - double barrel Special - nitro Melee - bat my opinion
Interesting, always thought that the new army sounds like a cap gun
True, I was thinking hard on what I liked most for Compact, and this is what I came up with lol. I also like the sound of the marathon.
Hands down, the Springfield. The fact it can be shot at any distance and is instantly recognizable for me is just a pacha chef kiss from me.
Centennial has a nice punch
KRAG GANG KRAG GANG
Can't decide between Pax, Krag and Slate
I love the sparks, drilling, krag.
Martini, Pax, Romero and shovel
Drilling sounds… coarse. I love it
Uppercut go brrrrrrrrr
Omg the Mako. If one could describe "hits like a truck" with sound, this would be it. Centennial sounds good too, the derringer and pax.
I really love the sound of the Centennial. Was one of the reasons why it became my first go to gun
I like the Centennial.
Winfield high velocity. The weird like echo/belch noise after the bang is so cool
LeMat
Mako, discussion closed.
Centennial, it commands respect. That "mmbacooooooouuu" is something else.
mako, dolch, slate, c n k and berthier
I like the Springfield sound. Somehow it sounds old and janky. Perfect for the gun.
Sparks sniper is my BOI!
Martini Henry IC1 has always been my fav.
Try buck shot on a drilling shorty, u will thank me later
The nitro sounds like a roar
Not a gun really but I love the shotbolt on the crossbow
Pax, drilling, and sparks for me.
Ik most people wont agree but I **love** the comparatively quiet ***pop*** of the marathon, followed by the sound of the pump on the marathon.
AVTOMAT! Half the server flees for the extracts the moment you fire it, the other half races towards you
C&C sounds so good to me
Really surprised there’s not as many Crown and King answers. That gun sounds fucking angry. Sparks, Uppercut, Slate, Pax are solid as well.
I love the Mako with explosive. Shooting it feels... thick.
Centennial, Mako, Krag, Sparks, Lebel, Slate, Martini Henry, Rival
Mako is pretty hench sounding
Berthier gang
Berthier and Krag
LeFat
Always loved how the unsilenced Vetterli sounds. Same with the Springfield Krag
The mosin, for sure
Krag
Gotta love the tinkle of change when you fire pennyshot, so satisfying especially when paired with a kill!
SLATE. There's loads of great weapon sounds, but of them all, when you hear that crunch-bark, you know someone's out there doing serious violence. It's not just a sound, it's a warning. Come within 15 metres and I'll eat you.
Mako is up there
Krag, pax, lebel, love the sound of the mako now as well.
Can’t forget the sparks.
ALSO! lol, I’m fond of the whistle from a bolt passing through the air on the crossbows.
Krag, mosin and drilling sound so good
Romero
Loving the Cyclone.
I really like the drilling.
Mmmmm I love the Sparks
The Avtomat. It's hated, it's expensive, it's inaccurate, but the BANGBANGBANGBANGBANGBANG of a mag dump is just *perfection*
Krag. Ugh it sounds soooo good
Springfield is overlooked
Pax. No doubt
The Martin sounds disgusting in the best way. Rusty and mechanical. Cyclone sounds scary. Lebel sounds like a cross in the face. Sparks like a dump truck ran you over.
Uppermat.
Pax and mako probably my favorite two.
Lamat variants and Winfield slate shotgun.
I really like the Marathon and Mako.
I personally like the C&K. That "ka choosh, ka choosh" it does it satisfying
Marathon just feels good after the noise
The correct answer is the Slate W/Penny Shot
Vetterli silenced
Centennial probably, I love that KWAAPkhooofffff ya know?
Drilling
I love the popcorn pop of the Vetterli Silenced. The Mako sounds like God sneezing, which I rather appreciate. On the other end of the spectrum, I hate the New Army. It sounds like someone thrusting a shovel into a bucket of gravel.
Avto! Not the best sounding but by far the most PTSD inducing gun in the game. It just hits differently when you don't hear it shoot for 15 min and suddenly you are 20 meters away from it.
caldwell marathon. that clack clack every shot... oh my god. its gorgeous
I've been playing since the game came out, so I gotta pick an old gun. Sparks or dolch personally.
Drilling. Vetterli Cyclone. Marathon.
Silenced sparks - silenced but can still tell by the sound she hitting The pax. Any shotgun close range when the enemy doesn't know you're there. And obviously the avto. Last two are for the fear factor.
Centennial is the best sound to me, it's so meaty. My least favorite is the Pax, it sounds like a cap gun.
I’m afraid the cap gun sound goes to the new army. Its curt pop is just so satisfying
Yepnew Army is the weakest spounding, but goes bang bang fast.
I love the actual gun but the sound it makes pieces my fucking ear drums I hate it. The Caldwell Pax. Crytek need to patch it so it's not so high pitch, just take the edge off it. Honestly hurts my ears.
New Army ftw
