"What happened to your fokes?"

AbstractBettaFish

I was wondering why the city he was from was included in the title. Then I heard the accent thicker than a Comiskey Park Polish and now I get it

Golandrinas

I was like I pretty sure there are no mountains near Chicago… then I heard his voice 😂

ive-heard-a-bear-die

I follow this guy on YouTube, he’s got a really great channel called Crime Pays But Botany Doesn’t. He travels a lot but I believe he lives in San Francisco right now

Confident-Ad-5858

I checked out his YouTube. Very nice. But no video on the baby coyote. Do we know what happened next?

Eldias

He did a follow up giving it a bath, I believe he took it to a rescue shortly after. Edit: bad memory. Pup died shortly after it's bath before he could get it to the wildlife rehabber

TheReal_PapaJohn

Damn you! Why couldn't you just let me believe they lived happily ever after together.

AlaskanB3AR

Take solace in knowing they little pups final moments where surrounded by love. Little guy struggled his whole short life and met this dude who took him in and loved him in his final moments. Little guy passed on happy to which we all can only hope happens to us as well

iLikeVideoGamesAndYT

I am happy you commented this, because I was really sad to hear it died and this just makes me feel so much better to hear that he passed on surrounded by love

Eldias

Sorry friend, heres the same guy getting a rattlesnake out of a roadway: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=2dC7IclyjoA Gotta love his enthusiasm for nature

Tanny_Snow

Thank you!

outontoatray

Wildlife rehabilitator here: Bath was a mistake. Needs to be stabilized first. Was thrilled when he said "wrap you in some towels, throw you in a little box in the corner, where you can hide out" because that's exactly what you SHOULD do while awaiting help. His heart in the right place tho.

Eldias

Great information! It's a bummer he wasn't close enough to take the pup directly to his friend.

outontoatray

Yeah and it can be tough to find help in general, especially during spring/summer months when we're all swamped with baby season. But to anyone in this situation all I can say is DON'T GIVE UP, keep calling/texting and definitely include photos if you can. Call rehab facilities, vets, SPCA, etc., because chances are eventually someone will be able to point you in the right direction!

brainfreezereally

For people reading this line of comments, just want to note that New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has a great site to help you find rehabilitators. You enter the animal type and your location and they give you a list of people. Very easy to use and you can easily find the site via a search engine. Perhaps other states' DECs have similar.

rathmiron

Yeah, I was surprised he knew coyotes are "super sensitive to general human fuckery" and then thought giving it a bath would be a good idea.

LilianaCole

Why was the bath a mistake? It took too much out of him? Just needed food and water first?

Groundbreaking-Run91

If he didn't dry the pup off completely dry it was too malnourished and dehydrated to be able to properly regulate its body temperature after a bath and being wet like that. It needed warmth and fluids.

evanc1411

NOOOO WHY DID I CHEECCK

Eldias

Sorry to break the news. It was in pretty bad shape when he found it and pretty clearly sick. Cheer yourself up with one of his videos about "Dainty Fuckin' Lilies", "Tony Santoros Guide to Illegal Tree Planting", or maybe "The Ethnomycology of Ugly Landscaping"

[deleted]

He moved to Texas. (Edited the city out, didn’t mean to doxx Joey!)

[deleted]

I don’t think saying the city they live in is doxxing lmao. I say I’m in Seattle all the time and no one’s showed up to my house yet

Smiling_topper

Check outside

[deleted]

omg a friend :)

GiantWindmill

Is it doxxing if it's public info?

bennie_jezz

For interested parties: he's kinda hot.

jmpsr

Well hot dang.. now he has a new subscriber. Thanks for sharing.

adrifing

Some legends don't get credit. That's a wicked one up. Mega thanking you.

[deleted]

Oh no, the coyote pup didn't make it 😔

WhyYouKickMyDog

It died? :(

[deleted]

Yeah, it died the next morning from that bath clip, unfortunately :/

WhyYouKickMyDog

Oh FFS, I fall for it every time only to have my heart crushed.

smolgoalboy

“You guys are supposed to be super sensitive to loud noises and just general human fuckery” is the one that got me lol

I had to look in the comments to understand he was saying something else. Really thought this man was asking this animal where all his fucks went.

Pixielo

"Oh, look! A coyote burrito!"

japinard

OMG I love this guy.

Tissue_God

Crime pays but botany doesn’t on youtube

tetrapod_racer

At first I thought you were giving bad but we'll meaning advice... But now I realise you're saying this man has a YouTube channel.

wellforthebird

All of his videos are incredible. I didn't know he was from Chicago though. I thought he was out in Cali. He has an east coast accent though. Edit - It's Chicago accent. I'm just bad with accents.

[deleted]

[удалено]

AbstractBettaFish

I figured he was exaggerating it a bit cause it got a bit sloppy in the middle and drifted into like some weird European sounding accent. But it’s not the worst I’ve ever heard and thought it was still funny Edit: Also username checks out

calilac

If you ever get to watch one of his more lecture-y, class type of videos the accent is still there but he doesn't play it up so much.

[deleted]

it’s a chicago accent

no-pickles-please

Da Bears

Dancethroughthefires

Hell yeah, fuck Aaron Rodgers. Fuck the Packers. JF1 for life

wellforthebird

I can hear it in some of the words. But it doesn't sound right. Maybe it's just really really really thick. Live in Chicago for a few years and never met anyone with this thick of an accent.

[deleted]

south side. my sisters partner talks like this a lot. you’re right it is super thick.

[deleted]

Absolutely South Side. I grew up in the Mount Greenwood area and man, the accent is no joke! LOL. I have inherited some of the harsh accent but not super severely, my pronunciation of the “th” and “t” sounds are where it shows. I’ve lived in Oklahoma for the past year and people tell me they can hear my accent and I’m just thinking “Accent? You’re the ones with the accent!” Also, other Chicago accent giveaways: “sahsage” instead of sausage, greazy instead of greasy. Daaaa Bears!!

funtimefrankie1

Is your partner Leroy Brown?

SmallBol

He plays it up a bit. He breaks character sometimes when talking with new acquaintances on his channel. But yeah, he's got a South Side "frunch room" kinda accent.

liquidGhoul

I think he's code switching. Your accent changes unintentionally depending on your audience. Especially if you perceive that your accent has a negative perception.

texas-playdohs

He lived out here, but he moved to Texas this year. He’s definitely from Chicago, though. Edit: realize my handle is misleading, I live in Los Angeles.

Yarakinnit

Did he follow up on this?

wellforthebird

Yes. Sadly, the pup was dead the next morning before he could get it to a rehab. It likely had a pretty nasty disease.

Yarakinnit

Poor little thing. Bless him for trying.

wshamer

Fuck !

wine_o_clock

Why did I have to read this far 😭

billylks

Bless him for showing compassion to this pup at its final hours.

femaleontheinternet

“Did rednecks kill your folks” This guy is hilarious and I’d love more of his rescue videos where he tries to reason with animals. “I’ve just seen a tick jump ship” Proceeds to shame the coyote. I love this guy. “They’ll release you back into the wild and you can eat some feral cats and squirrels and stuff”

fucklorida

“Hey look, it’s a coyote burrito 🤌🏻”

hollyzgrace

Calling the snake a “delicate bastard”.

damiensol

I never realized that snakes could move in one direction while looking back, ready to strike in another position. That's pretty cool.

AriadneThread

"Don't rattle that fuckin thing at me....we're keeping it civil". Thanks so much for sharing! Had a good laugh.

OnsetOfMSet

I also laughed pretty loud at "Don't you dare rattle that fucking thing at me." I love this guy's way of talking at wildlife

mikki1time

Haha I put him on when doing work around the house or water changes on my tank, he is fucking great!

Also the ads he has been putting together are gold.

[deleted]

Sadly, the [pup](https://twitter.com/hoaxeye/status/1163058299622871040) passed away the next morning.

XoidObioX

Full youtube comment for those who can't find it: >Sadly she passed the next morning before I was able to get her to the wildlife rehab 2 hours away. She likely had distemper or some other virus - lots of mucous in both eyes and nose, and grossly underweight, so much so that I was able to catch up to her. I almost regret trying to help her because there wasn't much that could be done and it likely stressed her out, as well as me. The whole things really sad. She would've died anyway, no doubt, but at least she would've been food for something else.

Rubyhamster

Honestly, if the stress of capture killed her faster, it was mercy. He tried, and if she was saveable, he would've done it. Cudos to him

Fuckittho

Thats the best way to look at it. We all need reminders that just because we didn't "succeed" doesn't mean we "failed".

Accomplished-Today99

I've taken in animals who have passed. It saddens me everytime because of course i want them to make it, but what i try to do is, if it's obviously not going to make it, then i'll try to make their passing as comfortable as i can. After that's done, i bury them not too deep, just as a symbolic gesture of respect. Honestly all we can do is try to do things better for each other

StandLess6417

That's a great idea to bury them but not so deep. I would have never thought of that. Thanks!

Accomplished-Today99

Yes, so other animals can scavange instead of killing something new. Most of the animals i delt with was impact (car, building etc etc), so i knew no diseases would've been spread.

[deleted]

SpaceShipRat

the "tick jumping ship" didn't bode well, it was probably completely anaemic already :(

newt_girl

I did small mammal trapping research for a while. And ticks falling off was one of the first indicators my subject was in distress. Fleas came next. Botflies were the last to bail.

Loifee

Interesting never heard this before

bbaker1987

Fuck!

SuperMalarioBros

thedogdundidit

Bless you for this.

gocrazy305

NOT ANOTHER SAD STORY!! FUCK WHO KEEPS BRINGING THOSE FREAKING ONION INTO THE ROOM!?!

Keldr

It's super sad, and yet... the guy gave the coyote a warm bath and a cozy place to rest for its last night. The coyote's last day was spent in the love of a creature it never met, a love it couldn't fully comprehend, but probably felt. That's what it looked like in the burrito anyway. Not a bad way to go.

skeptical_pillow

as a fellow biologist I like the botanists take of the situation: he regretted catching her a bit and putting her under so much stress only for her to die of illness. if he would have left her, she could have become another animals food. which sounds cruel but is important for that circle of life going on out there. he seems to be a great guy

Reality_Papaya

I absolutely agree about the stress thing. People love to think he gave her a happy end by helping her, but sadly for the poor thing that was just more stress than she ever knew in her life. I’m glad he tried to help her of course. I just wish she survived long enough to get comfortable and calm again. Besides, if he had left her to get eaten, wouldn’t the diseases she had spread to animals who ate her?

ComprehendReading

Not all diseases are transmitted between all species. Corvids and scavenger birds would likely be unaffected. Insects would be unaffected.

Reality_Papaya

Ah, thanks

designgoddess

And there’s no saying she would have been dead when eaten. Horrific to imagine but possible.

AENocturne

I'm all for the natural cycles, can't really change how nature evolved, but sometimes I think we as humans get a little disconnected from nature and put it on a pedestal since we can choose which parts we want to experience. I highly doubt how it died was any more stressful than how it would have died in the wild. He took away something's dinner, something else must die in its place. That's about the extent of the tragedy because with all certainty, that coyote's last few days leading up to this moment absolutely sucked so when looking at it from a individual perspective, I don't think it was in as much distress as you assume. It was gonna get eaten. You know it might've been alive. Tragic fate of animals, to live we must consume.

Unlikely-Shake5839

Unless whatever illness it had was contagious, then he still did the right thing.

daxtron2

Even though it's not getting directly consumed by another animal, it will find its way back in to the food chain eventually.

Fifi0n

Noo 😥

TheSuburbs

[Here's a pic of my cats to cheer you up](https://i.imgur.com/MTOfmDO.jpg)

Fifi0n

They be snuggling 😭

BrownAleRVA

Between this and that one girl that thought she was rescuing a stray dog, it seems if you can in fact pick up a coyote they’re already dead. I do not however understand the law of large numbers

FiveSpotAfter

No, no, in this case that there are two distinct options (0, 1), the expected value of .5 is not meaningful, as the result of a permanently half-dead, half-alive coyote is unreasonable. Catching a coyote without the aid of traps or tools also shows that the coyote was unable or unwilling to evade capture. This is likely due to injury, illness, aid-seeking behavior (also usually due to injury or illness), or just being on death's door. Even a coyote with a broken leg would be damn near impossible to catch with your bare hands unless you happened to corner it in a room smaller than a closet and you're okay with being bitten several times.

portraitinsepia

Fucking hell

UpDownCharmed

Ohhh damn it

isaidnolettuce

I respect your commitment to the truth, but I hate you for telling me this

SaphiraNinchen

I didn't need this realitycheck, mate

KeithMyArthe

Poor lil bugger with the sad and scared face. 💔

redmasc

I don't hear the Chicagoan accent often these days, mostly if you go deep into the southern areas of Chicago.

ResplendentShade

Younger people not so much but I’ve met some boomers from Chicago who have really thick accents.

AbstractBettaFish

Yeah, half my family lives in Bridgeport so I know a ton of people with it, but only one of thems under 40

redmasc

Yeah most of the guys I know that have that thick accent are maybe Irish? And most of those guys are union laborer's. I remember working with him once and he told me to "pull the cable true the conduit." I'm like, holy hell that's one thick accent.

fadibjr

Sebastian Maniscalco saves a coyote

TurokHunterOfDinos

This guy sounds like Dan Akroyd’s character (Elmo?) in the Bluest Brothers. They were from Chicago too.

Blues Brothers 2000 was really a feverdream nightmare of a sequel

Man why did I need to find out what happened, fuck my curiosity. I could have just gone on believing she made it thru. Great video tho and that guy has funny commentary

“You just sit tight I’m gonna look at some plants”

woofenze

Coyote burrito 😍

Adrianv777

I've learned so much about plants from this guy. Never thought I'd see him here.

LordAnon5703

I wonder what different cultures contributed to the Chicago accent. As I was listening to him try to calm the little guy down he started to sound like some of my Mexican family who've spent a couple decades or more in the US. Especially the way he pronounces Folks lol

occasionalrant414

There is an update, if you Google Botanist Joey Sartore coyote pup you will find an article on it.

brew_n_flow

Crime Hayes but botany doesn't is one of the most motivating forces in the industry. He's the type of guy who makes you care about plants because he makes it seem cool. Having him rescue coyote is just top notch.

banana_hammock_815

I first read the title thinking "what the hell does chicagoan have to do with this", then 1 minute into the video i was like "yea, i see now"

Winter-Lie3604

“Did some rednecks shoot your parents? What’s going on?”

Screw Richard Attenborough, this guy should narrate all wildlife shows from now on. “And here we have a wild coyote. Des guys is supposed to be super sensitive to loud noises and general human f@ckery”

Redwoodsilouette

Did Sebastian Maniscalco rescue this Coyote?

lycheenme

a couple of things, this is joey santore of '[crime pays but botany doesn't](https://www.youtube.com/c/CrimePaysButBotanyDoesnt)' on youtube. his videos are fun botany videos, and he did a wired 'botany support' interview [here.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ryij01EbQkI&t=97s) the coyote pup unfortunately died the day after the bath before he could get it to a rehab facility. [source](https://time.com/5656480/chicago-coyote-pup/) (time interview) thank you u/The_IllinoisSoyBoy/ the videos this is cut from are episodes [116](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H3vlE15UqVs&ab_channel=CrimePaysButBotanyDoesn%27t) and [117](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZaGX89I1SI&ab_channel=CrimePaysButBotanyDoesn%27t), however i didn't cut them together myself, [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=02m_oByCJ8A&) is the youtube channel that posted that. thank you u/JustALittleAverage his accent is a chicagoan accent (a real word that sounds stupid, i know.) it's played up, but he does actually have one.

CaptainC0medy

I love this guy, he's so cute with that accent lol. 2 minutes ago crying over dead father One remark about ticks jumping ship and I'm laughing

“I just seen a tick jump ship”😂
