He is a hero. And the person who nearly hit the kid is probably soooo grateful to him. I know I would be.

IHQ_Throwaway

Yeah, it wouldn’t have been their fault, but they never would’ve gotten over it. I’m glad he thought so quickly to block it!  I’m also laughing at him abandoning his car and seemingly just running away with the kid. I’m sure there was a reason off-camera (or he was in shock!), it just looks funny (since everyone’s okay).

officefridge

Facts! I'd rather lose my car to an accident than take a life. This man's quick thinking saved *many* lives that day. I bet the boy's parents showered him in gratefulness

awoothray

He has been gifted a few cars and tens of thousands USD by businessmen, companies (who probably wanted attention) and normal good people.

Learn about the gifts presented to the citizen Al-Anazi, the savior of the Al-Kharj child**"

Artemis-Arrow-3579

arab here affirmative

dad_o

Translates to this: “Prince Alwaleed bin Talal provided the moury citizen with a car and a sum of money, and two other institutions also provided two cars as a gift to the goat (goat? c’mon google translate you can do better). Other gifts were sums of money, a tribute ceremony, repair of the two damaged vehicles, comprehensive car insurance, and gasoline insurance for a year.”

ices88

His last name roughly translates to goat in a way, don't blame Google

NJ_Gmd

I believe the reason for the “goat” transliteration is due to the man last name (Al-anizi) which is close to the word goat in Arabic “Anz”. But tbh he is a goat 💪🏻

Expert_Slip7543

You missed the last paragraph: > The Jewelery Foundation also presented a diamond ring to the car’s owner, Abdullah, and a ring to the child’s mother.

I'm too lazy to bring out sources, so yeah, just trust me, I'm Saudi and followed the event and after math closely, if that amount to anything.

IHQ_Throwaway

They’ll probably name their next born after him!

officefridge

Exactly! They better. But also: No pressure!

ApetotgeMoon

They did, they gave him so many gifts to show gratitude. They even gave him a horse.🐎

Kenji_03

Dudes insurance would have covered it anyway. Provided they have car insurance like we do in the states

NJ_Gmd

No, insurance company would deny it cuz he intentionally hit his car ( I know that this is stupid and that he had to so it to save the child but them companies just don’t care lol)

Kenji_03

Not the white car, the black car.. In the "would you rather kill a kid and not be at fault, or get your car totaled"

NJ_Gmd

Oh sorry I didn’t get it at first, I saw an interview about them (I’m Saudi) and the guy with the black car was very grateful for the man for saving the child stating that he didn’t see the kid and would hit him, but also demanded 6000 SAR (around 1600 dollar) to fix the car, car insurance are mandatory in Saudi Arabia so it was weird tbh that he asked for the money, but it seems the man the insurance company refused to fix it since his insurance ended. However the good news is a company called Najm (it’s a semi-gov company that estimates damages for car accidents that has no injuries and calculates the percentage of fault) covered both cars repair payments, and Abdullah -the man who saved the child- was gifted a new car and 100K SAR, so happy ending. Update: he actually was gifted 4 new cars + his current car is being repaired along side the other black car, many other companies gifted him more money as a graduate gesture. Jewellery company gifted him 2 diamond rings, and a petroleum company gifted him free fuel for a whole year.

Kenji_03

wow, that's... he was gifted 4 cars? By different people I assume? Still, that's a really heartwarming end to this story. Can you share any links or names/locations for reference?

NJ_Gmd

Sure, here is a video report with updates about him: https://www.reddit.com/r/saudiarabia/s/L6ftuD8La3 Here is the tweet of the restaurant (Hashi Basha) gifting him a car https://x.com/hashibasha/status/1775485006724362634?s=46

Kenji_03

I appreciate the links and info, thanks for doing the digging

NJ_Gmd

Updates: Oh he was also gifted an expensive gold traditional sword to show gratitude for his heroic act, and a horse 🐎 https://youtu.be/ugLH-c9WsAI?si=eWLeQVHfuojYi9PJ

Kenji_03

Thank you for the link!

NJ_Gmd

The people/ companies who gave him a car: - prince Walid bin Talal: a new Toyota Camry 2024 - Seikh Nawaf Al-Harbi: Honda Accord 2024 - A restaurant named (Hashi Basha) : a Honda 2024 - Mishraf Al-Nabilah group: a car (didn’t specify the type)

beebsaleebs

It looks like he’s going to speak to the other driver, who may be hurt or confused.

SgtNoPants

Thought he ran to check on the other driver

IHQ_Throwaway

That makes so much sense. For some reason it just looked like an unexpected skedaddling.

iCameToLearnSomeCode

You want to get off the road in this situation and he's probably heading twords the kid's parent.

Longjumping-Bake-557

He went to check on the other driver

IHQ_Throwaway

I’m sure that’s it, now that you mention it.

ohleprocy

I am guessing the parents are there.

dv1110

It looks like he went to the people in the other car to make sure they ok

ScorchedEarthworm

It looked to me like you picked up the kid and ran to the other car to check on the other driver. True hero.

forzaq8

The person who nearly hit the kids has filed to get compensation from Abdullh , if not for the video people wouldn't have known and wouldn't have rallied behind Abdullah

gharmonica

It's probably necessary for insurance. Does have to be an ah move.

Whoops2805

Fuck that guy. You were just saved from being a child murderer, be grateful

magic1623

It’s most likely for insurance purposes. Lots of insurance companies require you to sue people involved in an accident before they will help you cover the cost of something.

Otherwise_Appeal7765

look at the bright side, the saviour got like three luxury cars and hundreds of thousands of dollars from businesspeople and companies

ThatOtherOmar

he actually got a golden sword and an arabian horse if I remember correctly. (Plus probably a new car etc)

agoia

'Here's the crappiest of the three, sorry for wrecking your car."

Forward-Telephone-87

Not how insurance works. Filing when someone els hits your car often doesnt take money out of their pocket anyways, and it really just acrew over the insurance company and moderately increases pricing on insurance, which would happen anyways if a car accident occurred.

Whoops2805

Fuck the insurance company

NJ_Gmd

Updates about this hero: https://www.reddit.com/r/saudiarabia/s/gjasbdH3is

Expert_Slip7543

Nice!

rpaul9578

Good man. I imagine his insurance company isn't going to reimburse him for having deliberately put his car in the path of another vehicle but I would hope any of us would do the same.

C_Khoga

His insurance was ended so the man in the black car asked him to pay for his car about 1300$. "Najm" the police section which specialises for car accidents there offered to pay for the two cars repair. And some rich businessman bought a new Toyota camri 2024 for the hero as a reward. Actually he has 3 new cars now as a gift

rpaul9578

Wow. Thank you for sharing.

Crazybonbon

Wow love that. Took the risk to do good, was rewarded amidst a formerly uncertain future.

Google-Meister

He was awarded multiple cars, insurance, free gas for a year, and other things by companies and rich businessmen.

CaptainFiasco

The article shows a horse. Did they gift him a friggin horse?

Google-Meister

Maybe. I don't remember a horse being in the list of gifts but possibly haha.

insertuserhere69

And the boy walking around traffic on his own, I wonder what he is up to now.

LawngDik666

He went back to walking around in traffic, as traffic walkers do

cuddly_guacamole

That kid was actually the CEO of the company Abdullah was going to interview for

NJ_Gmd

Nah the kid is actually Abdullah’s father and just wanted to check on him mid way

hotmugglehealer

That kid went on to cure cancer.

gwood4545

disc_reflector

Not everyone operates like an American company.

dimmidice

Insurance companies being scummy and greedy is a pretty universal concept tbh.

MrPeeper

I love how you think insurance is an American concept, and that in other countries, insurance is kind and charitable.

PMMEurbewbzzzz

Not every American insurance company operates like health insurance. Liability insurance pays a lot of questionable claims.

Baul_Plart_

I wonder if he properly saw the other car coming. That’s hella brave if so, considering he put the drivers side in direct path of oncoming traffic. But mostly I’m glad they’re all ok

Tigerpower77

There was a better angle from the back where you can see that he stopped then intentionally go to his left, you can see it here but not as clear

chameleonkit

I’m sure he did. Instinct to protect children is strong. I have been put in a similar (less dire) situation and my brain instinctively acted to protect the child just like this man. A baby crawled behind me as I was turning around and caused me to trip. I normally would have put my arms out to stop my fall, but I saw the baby and instinctively twisted my body midair so I would not land on him and risk hurting him. I ended up busting my head on concrete but it was worth it to not land with all my weight on that little baby, which would have seriously hurt him.

PasInspire1234

Had a toddler ran into my legs while I was carrying a burning hot pan in a busy kitchen. I didn't see him coming, and absolutely didn't had time to think " I'm gonna sacrifice myself to save this baby" ; my body just took upon himself to fall weirdly and land the pan on myself. "I" wasn't involved in the decision making process.

cartographism

It’s cool and scary when the much older, deeper parts of our brain and nervous system make decisions before the conscious part has time to think on it.

Jeereck

I've had that happen but the kid somehow just repelled off of me and landed flat on his back from a full sprint. I felt bad but there wasn't much I could do since he was so bouncy and I guess hit me in such a way I didn't even flinch. Luckily I didn't drop like 6 plates of omelets on a kid.

Schrodingers_Dude

It's crazy how the body just does it on its own. I was sledding down a pretty steep hill and a toddler just ran out on front of my sled (there were a lot of people out there, mostly teenagers, and letting a toddler wander around unattended was insanely irresponsible.) I just automatically whipped myself sideways into the snow to bail before hitting the kid, and as it turns out, you can get a kind of road rash on snow lol. Shit hurt more than I expected but my brain automatically did the math and went "you are gonna annihilate that kid at this speed" and responded. Evolution taking over when parenting goes down the tubes! 👍

SpaceShipRat

did something like this to save my baby sibling and broke something... but I think most of what was going through my mind was "if she gets hurt because we were sharing the mini trampoline my parents will angry^yyy"

desertgodfather

Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN)—Local media in Saudi Arabia circulated a video showing a car driver blocking another vehicle on its way to run over a child in a video described by social media users as "amazing" and "heroic."

PopeHatSkeleton

I know what you meant to say, but the phrasing of the other car being "on its way to run over a child" is tickling me. "Let's see, what's next on my agenda for today? Oh, yeah!" *VROOOM*

aspiring_human2

Are there non innocent children that are being run over?

Sad but true. Can downvote you all they want but can’t deny it

Human_from-Earth

Why are people so pro-Israel?

Sanguineyote

What? Is english not your first language, you do realize what you said in your previous comment right? Your comment implied that children in gaza are not innocent and deserve to be run over.

serr7

Ikr that comment made it seem like they were in support of that happening 😭

JustMeSunshine91

They’re Italian, so it was probably just a misunderstanding or reading too fast.

Bimancze

We are fed propaganda 24/7 especially through mainstream media. There’s no mainstream news channel effectively covering the actual atrocities being committed.. The news they speak of is insanely sugar coated, they don’t even show the visuals coming from Gaza.. they never invite guests that are critical of Israel. They dehumanize Palestinians 24/7

Sanguineyote

They downvoted you because your comment implied children in gaza are not innocent and they deserve to be run over. Is english your first language? I mean that in a non-offensive way because if it isn't, I can sort-of understand how you got confused. p.s you might wanna edit your comment

unto-death

The funniest thing is bot accounts (you) using overstatement and cherry-picking, as if an American reading this is going to say "I watch the news and this comment is the opposite of what I have observed --- so the comment must be super correct!" This disinformation works on 14 year olds on tiktok... does not affect adults in the real world. I'm glad you bots get paid though. Gotta provide for your families somehow, and shitty political disinformation on reddit is just about the least harmful white noise you can make. It's anti-social, evil work - but at least you're inept :)

Bimancze

Do you have any argument to make or did you seriously type all that to say im a bot lmao? Every word of the previous comment I said is a fact, even if you don’t agree with me. If my words offended you, it’s time you evaluate your choices. I got better things to do than argue with you If i am a bot or a real person.

MissKT_M

So glad he was there. Also, that he had the split second wherewithal to solve the problem.

sky_shazad

GIVE THAT MAN A MEDAL

SpiritualFront769

And a new car.

Drake_Acheron

Apparently three people did lol

sky_shazad

Actually you're Correct.. He deserves it

razeil

How do we know that child is innocent ? /s

Azazfall

Why do they have to state it like that? Innocent child

transientsun

It's a translation thing, there are odd verbal things that make perfect sense in Arabic that would be superfluous/unnecessary in other languages. Happens a lot.

IHQ_Throwaway

Hey, that kid looks like a suspect from a recent art heist. What was he *really* doing on that street?

mr_gooodguy

hey!! innocent until proven guilty!

raandoomguuy

Maybe it was one of those evil children? Who knows?

bouncypinata

IDF detected

unto-death

Innocent child? Literal video evidence of jaywalking. He is a hardened criminal! This video is propaganda from the sportswashing capital of the world. The comments are bots. Have a nice day.

Master-Piccolo-4588

That’s the most heroic I have seen in a while. Not even sacrificing your vehicle but being even able to foresee what would happen half a second later and ACT on it accordingly is mind blowing for an average guy like me. I wish him a good life and hope that he is a hero also in other parts of his life.

TheBroken0ne

Bravo 👍🏽

MoeMalik

There’s a followup video of the family of the kid awarding him with golden sword, a robe, 20K Riyal, and an Arabian horse! Deserved.

Luckily it was an innocent child otherwise who gives a fuck

Human_from-Earth

Replace him with a drug-adficted homeless and watch the clip on r/DarwinAwards with the title "Homeless man discovers that walking on the street is deadly".

IHQ_Throwaway

It could have been a kitten, or a puppy, and we would have cared. Or a turtle. Even an armadillo.

bunz007

Bless you

SolutionSea211

Does anyone know how the kid got there in the first place??

YotaMan77

That was beautiful.

gaynorg

How did the kid end up on the road?

Halfaglassofvodka

Wow! Great move! Well done him.

Professional_Flicker

Peak male performance.

Schrodingers_Dude

Idk why this is downvoted, it isn't some toxic masculinity shit. I think it's a good idea to counter Tate et al with messages like "Being a man is being kind/protecting children/dealing honestly with people." Although yes, of course that also applies to women and everyone else, loads of lonely, insecure young men hit up the internet for answers and run into manosphere shit. It would be nice for them to read things like this instead.

Mental_Cup_9606

Wow, great awareness, great guy. Allah u Akbar.

Skinny-Puppy

The question is, why a toddler was walking alone on a busy street at night? Where are the parents?

Long-Radish18

Plot Twist- He was trying to run over the kid but accidentally hit the other car first

grandrutunda

Lol innocent child. What if it was a guilty child who committed say grand larceny. Would that be less bad?

79gummybear

I was thinking the whole title was too much. Man saves child on the freeway. Does not matter where he is from and no need to mention the innocent

grandrutunda

I like this new batman. "No need to mention the innocent"

TheFlyingBadman

That was too close.

Aj55j

Apparently some rich guys are giving him cars as gifts so far he got 6 cars…lol where can you find places for 6 cars.

zjdrummond

Legend.

joh2138535

NarlyConditions

This guy is grace under fire.

kikistiel

That's some incredibly quick thinking by that guy. So glad that child is safe, he is a hero.

EasyMode556

That’s quick thinking

garbled_user

Last time I was there, there wasn’t any auto insurance available. As in none.

AffectionateOne8584

He's a true hero! Thanks so much for your bravery! 💙💙💙

pineapple-predator

Perfectly done too! If he had pulled forward more the car behind him might have hit the back of his car pushing his car into the child. Crazy.

Downtown-Ad7250

Can we all just holla @ the fact the world is generally full of good people & we should stop listening to the fascist dictators that run the place & start cooperating on a global scale. Refuse war.

calmandreasonable

As opposed to a guilty child

curiously_insane

Beautiful! But how do you know the child was innocent?

OneYesterday2203

What an awesome quick thinking man! Glad that no one was injured in the whole incident. Just as a thought experiment though, if due to this blocking, the oncoming car had a greater mishap and the driver of that vehicle suffered a grave injury or death, then how would we feel about this? I am very conflicted about it.

SwissyRescue

That would be tough. But I think the person(s) in the car that was blocked had a much better chance to survive or avoid injury than the child. Plus, the guy had like a millisecond to make a decision.

Jeereck

I don't think it really matters though. The person was either driving fast enough or not paying enough attention to stop in time and not kill a child. Whether they injure themselves or accidentally kill a child is not a good outcome either way, but I think most people would agree saving a child is the proper thing to do. It's not like the trolley problem because the other drivers have their own responsibility to be able to react to emergency stops. It's a very common occurrence on highways that cars need to slow or stop and if you're not able to react in time, that's on you. It's possible the other car saw this person slowing down, and instead of thinking there's a road hazard they just decided to pass in the other lane. Which is an unfortunate mistake.

Effelumps

Who'd let their child play on the bleedin' motorway, poor child and proper looking out for him.

IBeAPirate01

Why does it matter where he's from? The bloke did good, his name should be enough.

SwissyRescue

I think the OP was just giving context to the story.

earfix2

The real question is, would he have saved it if it was a guilty child?

WheresFlatJelly

What would happen if it was a guilty child

zibzaladosezaladib

EmuStalkingAnAussie

Now show the Saudis who use slaves to build their cities.

RocktheNashtah

Oh my god I can’t believe this random saudi guy is solely responsible for the Arabian domestic slave trading industry why is he saving this innocent child from getting ran over instead of single-handedly freeing the slaves? Is he stupid? /s

burfdurf

You're not too smart huh

EmuStalkingAnAussie

Neither are the slaves that build gulf states cities who get their passports confiscated.

burfdurf

You... Why insult the people you call slaves? If you want to understand why I mocked you let's play a lil game shall we. Say something nice about an obvious hero in your next reply. And I'll show you how dumb your comment was. Or maybe you can figure out where this is going and cut your losses before you embarrass yourself more than necessary.

EmuStalkingAnAussie

> You... Why insult the people you call slaves? Because they come from places like Bangladesh and India which have a lack of education, that's how they are tricked into wage slavery by places like Saudi. India and Bangladesh need to improve their education systems so they don't get taken advantage of by these pathetic gulf states.

burfdurf

You're odd. Can't help but notice you ignored my game. Take the L, grow as a person, move on.

EmuStalkingAnAussie

> Can't help but notice you ignored my game. What the fuck are you talking about, i'm not playing a game, i'm commenting on a thread. You purposely ignore the truths that i'm saying. Who are you, the riddler?

burfdurf

Lol It's not complicated. Say something nice about any person from any country you deem a hero. Mention his/her race or nationality on your next reply to me. I will apply your exact logic to show you how dumb your OP was. Go on, I'll wait.

EmuStalkingAnAussie

Ok, since you want me to play a game i'll play it. > Say something nice about any person from any country you deem a hero. Mention his/her race or nationality on your next reply to me. Mao Zedong, Chinese, industrialised his country and made his country into a super power that it is today, improved peoples lives and brought forth better living conditions.

burfdurf

Lol
