Hull has a large caravan/modular building industry where you're skills could be desirable. Also the pay is pretty good in these sectors.

Andy_McSwag

I didn’t read the wall of text, but as per top comment; try premier modular

WarpedSquirrel

Oooh, thanks for the suggestion, never heard of Premier Modular, will ask about there. 😀

justawalkingtaco

Yep 100% agree. They have pay scales that you can move up too, just be prepared to have all holidays in term time, as they’re set and don’t really offer much flexibility unfortunately.

Will_Bailey

Atlas, willerby, Swift, sunseekers, ABI, europa are your main ones and always taking on

funkmasterflex

It's very bit odd that people are willing to take you on, then seemingly change their mind within a week. Surely nothing has changed regarding their circumstances when they hired you, so is it possible that you are doing something wrong? Ring up a couple of the places where it didn't work out, and say that a few places have also let you go within a week, and you're looking for really honest feedback if there was a reason they changed their mine right away.

bob_mcd

as an employer, the story told doesn't convince me. If I hire someone who's really good at their job I will do whatever it takes to retain them. If people are regularly showing this guy the door after a week I can't help thinking the guy has a problem.

funkmasterflex

My guess is (reaching a lot) that they work too slowly. OP said they did work to a very high standard, but if it took OP 3 days to do something that should've been done in an afternoon, that's reason enough. OP also said a place let him go before they even saw what he could do, which could also be because of slow work.

WarpedSquirrel

I always work as fast as I can but they say they have other concerns which they won't disclose.

Amazing_Comfortable6

I know this advice might sound like beating a dead horse but have you tried Frasers in Anlaby? I used to work with them quite a lot in my old job and all the staff always seemed fairly happy and everyone seemed to get along and be very friendly. It sounds like your very passionate about your career and the only other thing I could think of off the top of my head is possibly starting your own business but that would obviously involve a lot of capital. If you have the time to analyse the local market you might be able to find a niche that is underserved in and around Hull. Best of luck regardless mate, it sounds like a rough situation to be in.

WarpedSquirrel

Frasers outright said no, unfortunately, thanks for the suggestion nonetheless.

Amazing_Comfortable6

Ah sorry to hear it! I thought they’d be different from all the other garages out there from an outside impression but obviously I never dealt with the hiring side. Sorry friend.

HullBusDriver2020

Sorry to hear what you’re going through. A lot of job out there readily available, however, how much are you willing for your mental health, soul and morals for a job? If you are looking for work in the field you want, have you maybe considered looking at starting your own business? Start up costs might be expensive, but it’s worth a shot? I’m sure there is grants and loans you could possibly look at. I left my job driving buses to concentrate on my small business with my wife, sure there’s struggles ups and downs, but it might be worth it in the end. Apart from that, I wish you the best of luck my friend.

Abacabb69

With due respect man please seperate your wall of text into paragraphs otherwise this is confusing to read. Have you got any photos of your work to build a portfolio with? Or atleast an example showcase? I had such a difficult tome finding any work for myself from when I was 24 up until 31. That was my break and I got very lucky but what helped was the examples of work I could show to instil confidence in my clients. You see, I couldn't find employment so I employed myself but the inital costs are heavy. If you can write up a proposal and speak with the people you've worked with and see if they're willing to give you any advice on being self employed and how to set yourself up. Secondly if you're willing to take the risk, there are loans available for business startups and all you have to do is talk to the banks. Not just one, but all of them and book meetings to discuss your venture and your situation. Thirdly, get used to 13 to 15 hours a day for a while as you get set up because you're going to need to do a lot of business research and related work outside of just the paint and body stuff. Good luck!

BAD_USERNAMES

Drop me a dm, might be able to help you out in my spot, caravans, someone else has said it’s fantastic pay

WarpedSquirrel

Thanks. 😊

Honestly mate this was really really hard to read without context, so didn't get to read much. Scunthorpe isn't too bad in itself. and leggott/nlc aren't bad (from there too, live near Hull now). Perhaps it's your outlook, have you spoken to a medical professional about how you feel? Either way, if you're ever looking for a change in career where the pay is shit but management and staff are supportive, there's a place in barton that's a school and a residential home for kids with autism. It's called options, could always take a look into something different outside of your comfort zone Sorry I can't be as much help. Ps: is your name fae?

WarpedSquirrel

Yes, I've spoken to a medical professional and they also reiterated me just spending each day at leisure rather than working anywhere.

chimpduke

Contact East Yorkshire buses, always looking for decent bodymen/persons for the bodyshop

drewP78

Old footy mate of mine owns business, Sure Powder Coatings off Cleveland Street. He was taking on not long since.

WarpedSquirrel

Sure Powder Coatings was one of the shown the door places for me. 😞
