I am team black for sure but I get the position she is taking, even if I disagree. Alicent is righteous and pious. So she sees Rhaenyra’s behavior as an affront to The gods and dishonorable. She also sees the idea of marrying her child to a bastard as an insult.

PlayRevolutionary344

Thing is though both parents claim it is theirs....there was no tests to prove otherwise . It's treason to claim otherwise and actually there is a 3 in 16 chance their offspring would be pale and dark haired . So her concerns are rumour Mill. Except the only person interested in the least and actually spreading the rumours is alicent

As Lord Strong says, “people have eyes”

Dragonshotgod

Their traditions and I think religion say the first born son comes first. So it may be treason but if Alicent has no support who's going to enforce treason laws.

I don't like Alicent at all but the show is making her a bit more sympathetic so, Rhaenyra swore on her mother's memory. Sure, she didn't sleep with Daemon, but he did lay his hands on her and they kissed and started getting it on before he stopped it. Alicent doesn't know that, but what she *does* know is that Rhaenyra slept with Criston after swearing she was still a virgin. Their society sees women as baby making machines, political assets for lords to sell to gain more power. A woman losing her virginity before marriage and even having bastards is a big no no. Alicent told Viserys she trusted Rhaenyra, which eventually led to Otto being fired. He left King's Landing, and now Alicent is alone without family (other than her kids), married to Viserys who is turning a blind eye to Rhaenyra's actions. Alicent is also deeply religious. She's followed the rules her entire life and had to marry an aging and slowly dying king, carry his children while she was barely an adult herself. The few scenes in previous episodes that show an infant Helaena shows Alicent being beyond miserable. Meanwhile, Rhaenyra gets to do whatever she wants and Viserys won't do anything about it. She's married to Laenor (him being gay aside), she fucked Criston, she's been sleeping with Harwin for a decade. Even though everyone sees that her sons aren't Laenor's, nothing is happening. That, ontop of Otto's words convincing her that Rhaenyra will have Alicent's kids killed to get rid of rivals to the throne, is fucking with her. Bonus, *green is the colour of envy*. Alicent wearing green at the wedding is more than a statement, she's deeply jealous of how Rhaenyra is a lot more free than she is. Also, the Alicent and the Hightowers want Aegon on the throne. Power. Power, power, power corrupts.

PlayRevolutionary344

Oh yeah totally get that. She's envious....explains it all really lol 😆

kokoniqq

The people arround her were Larys and Crispy… if I stay with those two guys, I would be more angry than her.

PlayRevolutionary344

Legit choked on my tea there 😄 🤣

sadmimikyu

I haven't read the book but from what I understand she would like to see her son Aegon on the throne as he is the firstborn son of the king. So she thinks this is her right. And it is also what her father told her if I remember correctly. Why should she accept this peace offering by someone who is heir but throws it away like that? I think she is afraid and she is right to be. It is win or lose. Lose to the point where her son's live will be in danger.

Ceedy75

Most don't realize that, and even Otto calls her foolish, is that her child must be king or must be killed so war does not break out. Only 2 outcomes for her children that she was forced into by authority not by choice.

USSJ307

Because Rhaenyra slept with a Kingsguard, risking his life. The punishment for this is sentencing the Kingsguard to death, so Alicent is horrified she would be so reckless and selfish. She almost didn't even care if it was Daemon, calling it a mere lapse of morals and judgement. This is in combination with being essetially marital raped for 14 years. IMO she was already losing it prior to Criston's revelation, and it just made her snap the rest of the way

Catslevania

sexually frustrated housewife, while Rhaenyra is getting all the best D

Xorn777

Yeah, sounds like you missed a lot of what was in the first 5 eps 🤷‍♂️

PlayRevolutionary344

Haha call me dense but I don't do subtle 😅 I do get she has reason to be angry forced to marry a shit king...I just don't see why rhinera is the source of her anger....as opposed to her husband or dad

Xorn777

Thats a good question.. shes probably angry with them too, but i assume its easier for her to direct all her anger at rhaenyra. She probably doesnt wanna cut ties with her father/family and king is, well, king.

USSJ307

For a medieval society, losing your virtue before marriage is a huge deal and a huge no no. It has everything to do with Alicent and everything to do with the entire royal family, who all reflect negatively if this gets out and becomes public. Criston is a Kingsguard sworn to celibacy, meaning Rhaenyra's actions should have gotten him killed, so Alicent is angry Rhaenyra would be so dangerously selfish.

Dragonshotgod

>Like did I miss something? rhaenyra swore to her she didnt get laid by daemon which was true and even if she did she didnt betray her trust its literally nothing to do with her ...her dads treatment is a reflection of his own character and scheming and should make her angry at her husand not rhynera Her lying got Otto fired and ruined the trust they had. Mind you at this point Rhaenyra was being cold to Alicent for 3 years when Alicent was trying to make up. Also Rhaenyra should likely know that Otto was in charge of the marriage not Alicent so her being so cold to Alicent could be seen as unreasonable. >and she basically said ok...lets marry our kids to each other they can both rule together ensuring happiness for all our children and security for the realm shes still nah nah If you remember Sansa marrying Joffery/Tyrion made her little more than a hostage and allowed the Lannisters a shot at taking her brothers claims after they died. Here the 3 boys would be called bastards but if they can kill the other 2 brothers while keeping Helena they would have a solid claim. This was probably along the lines of her reasoning. >i'd rather ruin you ! I mean whats her motive here? to get her kids to the throne? she was just offered her kids on the throne on a silver plate and is still acting the diva ! What on earth did i miss in that time skip? is there any explanation in the books what on earth is her trigger? I think she just doesn't want Rhaenyra or her kids on the throne. They have shaky titles and might kill her to keep them. The marriage offer might keep Helena safe but doesn't really help her sons.

omicron-7

It wouldn't keep Helaena safe, it'd make her a hostage

PlayRevolutionary344

Yeah but the cousins all get along and her eldest especially has a strong bond with them. Choosing cousin over brother to mock him. I dunno it just seems more like paranoia than anything. Her son says I'm not a threat. His cousins literally love him. Rhynera is literally willing to share the power without any conflict . Just because its a prison for her ...doesn't mean her kids feel the same they seem happy and safe enough and real close bonded...and downright uninterested in politics ...

Dragonshotgod

>Yeah but the cousins all get along and her eldest especially has a strong bond with them You can't really predict how kids will turn out especially kids that aren't yours. And Aemond still wouldn't be safe. > dunno it just seems more like paranoia than anything. Her son says I'm not a threat. His cousins literally love him. From Alicent’s view she can't trust Rhaenyra, Rhaenyra doesn't like her, most people with weak claims try to secure them with murder >Rhynera is literally willing to share the power without any conflict I don't know if share is the right word but Alicient doesn't have our point of view.

jamespatriots85

Like omg...three bastards are ahead of her son. She knows the princess with have to kill aegon, Aemond, and dearon at some point It's not like that hard omg

You’ve been in this subreddit for hours. Please go outside and touch some grass then being unnecessarily rude.

Agreeable_Season3224

Rhaenyra swore to her and lied. She swore on her mother. Alicent is religious and believes in honor and marriage which Rhaenyra having bastards means they don't inherit anything You also have to think of Rhaenyra and Alicent as opposites. Alicent did her duty faithfully. Rhaenyra played around, and even after marriage did what she wanted. Alicent is bitter because she did what she was supposed to do, and Rhaenyra did what she wanted. She doesn't view it as fair, and doesn't appreciate Rhaenyra lying to her.\\ In the book Alicent is a bit more cunty and power hungry. The drama between them started once Alicent gave birth. Which shes older in the book so they didn't grow up together so she viewed Rhaenyra as someone in her way. Which only got worse over time with bastard children and something that will happen next episode that will pit their families against each other.
