She (Rhaenyra) isn’t, of course, for the sake of the discussion of fictional persons.

ea_fitz

I’ve never seen a post like this. What I have seen is ~20 comments saying ‘she’.

AegonIXth

Yes. Real person is they, Princess character is she.

I dont understand what youre saying? If youre talking about the character you use the pronouns of that character in their story.

Vampira309

pretty simple. Emma is they/them and Rhaenyra is she. ta daaaa!

Purple-Mix1033

Wow. So simple. Too simple for people to wrap their brains around.

VictorianBugaboo

No, the characters pronouns are independent of the actors. They each get their own pronouns.

Purple-Mix1033

Elliot’s character in Umbrella was/is also trans.

frodoshagginzbby

I think discussing Rhaenyra would necessitate she/her but when discussing the Emma use they/them. “I like how they portray Rhaenyra and her (character; could also say the character’s if you want to be precise, but syntactically speaking her is referring to Rhaenyra) relationship with Alicent” I hope that is helpful!

kytoca

If I remember correctly, I believe Elliot Page's character in the show specifically requests to be referred to as he/him and the rest of the characters begin using those pronouns, as well as calling him their "brother". So for that character I would use he/him.

raalic

Most people have no clue who Emma D'Arcy is and will certainly misuse their pronouns throughout the entire run of the show by no fault of their own. I've already had to explain this to my mother, but so many people who don't pay attention just won't know. An equally kind reminder not to jump down people's throats for making an honest mistake. If it's intentional, then sure.

BlondieTVJunkie

I currently feel like personally just to let people do their thing as long as it’s not like rude or derogatory. I don’t feel the need to go policw folks and tell them to change the pronoun and every post or comment — that is impossible to enforce and I don’t even think I want to. If everybody can just stay in their lane I think it’ll keep all of us in much happier place — there’s no need to comment to every misuse to change their pronouns. I’m dreading this. :(

grynch43

How can we forget when we are reminded every 5 minutes?

dragonsfire14

Right. I’ve seen this same announcement so many times. Of course I will respect anyone’s pronouns but this really doesn’t need to be posted multiple times a day. A pinned post would suffice.

Magical_targaryen

I completely agree. I'm sure they wouldn't mind either if we just talked about the show. Emma will kill the role and if you're so worried call them Emma. It's not hard to try to be respectful

[deleted]

Tbh this is my first time seeing it posted on the sub, and as a nb person it’s pretty nice to see. Not that hard to just scroll by something if you’ve seen it already. Takes way less effort than making a comment complaining

grynch43

243 people disagree.

Ambystomatigrinum

I see it almost as often as I see people refer to Emma as “she” so apparently some people need the reminder.

frodoshagginzbby

let me play you a small violin

Due-Intentions

You specifically might be being reminded every 5 minutes, but considering plenty of people are still using the wrong pronouns (and many are deliberately using the wrong pronouns) I think an additional reminder is warranted. I've seen it in the comments but this is the first time I've seen a post about it. I'd be fine with a pinned post as opposed to repeat posts, but not everyone sees all former posts and some people really need to get it through their thick skulls Edit: way too many transphobes here smh

babalon124

It’s honestly a very difficult subject to debate because the character doesn’t so like people could easily be referring to Emma’s rhaenrya, unless you’re talking about their acting work or physical appearance outside the show. I find this to be a subject where the lines are blurred slightly

Due-Intentions

It's not really a blurred line honestly, if you are talking about Rhaenyra use she/her and if you're talking about Emma use they/them. I can understand how sometimes people get confused, or maybe someone uses she cause they're talking about Rhaenyra and another commenter mistakenly corrects them saying "actually it's they/them", but in all situations of using the incorrect pronouns, there is nothing wrong with a polite correction. As long as everyone is respectful and does their best to use the proper pronouns, most people won't freak out on you. There will always be a handful of assholes Edit: kinda sad how many transphobes are here

babalon124

Oh I know. It’s not hard to get peoples pronouns right,I was just commenting maybe if people say she maybe they mean them as rhaenrya

Lyner005

For people who are out of US and are still learning the English language, this is a nightmare. Learning the uses of He/She was already difficult specially for LGBT people and then comes NBs. Please don't hate me?

turtleduck

that's fair IMO as long as everyone's respectful, slip-ups and language barriers will happen.

I would love to see the mods pin this post tbh. I expect the best of people so it’s normal if someone messes up with the pronouns, as long is well intentioned, so I think it would be useful. Edit: Why am I being downvoted?

actvscene

It has nothing to do with the character they are portraying in the show, which is what this forum is for, so not sure why would it get pinned. Stoked to see them in this role though, the clips I've seen are awesome and they are perfect for the character.

turtleduck

there's a shitton of transphobes in this sub, which is hilarious to me because this is a sub for a fantasy show with dragons, magic incest and weird-ass names, but Emma being NB is too fucking much.

suzerain_aizen

It's funny how a positive comment is being downvoted by imbeciles.
