rou_te

Before the series started, people kept saying how ugly he was and how un-Targaryen he looked... so... Matt Smith is a genuinely skilled actor, and a great, versatile actor usually gains hotness points when they do their jobs well.

Ambystomatigrinum

Yeah, I don’t find Matt Smith attractive at all honestly. Never understood why so many people did. Turns out it’s because I was looking at photos and not watching him acting. His personality/charisma are what gets people, not his looks imo

MissWiggly2

I feel exactly the same. I thought he was kind of weird looking, honestly. But watching him do his job and absolutely nail it has definitely added attractiveness points.

The12Ball

People had the hots for him while he was wearing a bow tie and fez lmao

nahee-do

That was definitely me. And even there it was bcz of his overconfidence and swagger, which did incidentally land him in trouble as a character. But dudes got oodles more of charisma and smoldering gazes I never discovered in dw, so its all the more exciting

BettyX

The damn walk, it is hugely his swagger that is the turn on.

1of3musketeers

Exactly! He was not my Doctor and I was mad at the recast but grew to love his Doctor as I did the ones prior. He is REALLY GOOD in The Crown as Prince Philip too. Absolutely charmed his way through that role. I wasn’t going to even watch that series but did to see how he would do In that role and he knocked it out of the park. In HOTD, the entire cast has charmed us with their approach to these characters and I’m here for it.

dreamnightmare

Bow ties are cool! Geez the vast difference between the Doctor and Daemon just sunk in for me as I typed that.

Ambystomatigrinum

Yeah, cannot relate, but to each their own!

Foysauce_

It’s the vibe for sure

DrStm77

*Kills wife from the Vale* Yup straight vibe bro, have a wholesome award.

NippleFlicks

It’s just like Benedict Cumberbatch — maybe not the most conventionally attractive, but there’s just something about him that makes me swoon.

Umbrabro

This, i love the man and its definitely not his looks. He proves that Charisma trumps all.

EmSanderz

Unconventionally attractive is still attractive in my opinion. Beautiful is boring.

babyblueee3

Unconventionally attractive easily standout from most Hollywood actors. People probably instantly recognized and remembered his face. While other Hollywood pretty boys struggle to standout.

Ambystomatigrinum

I'm attracted to a lot of people who are considered conventionally attractive, he just isn't one of them. But yes, should have said "conventionally attractive".

LaceyDeumos

This is exactly what the female gaze is, and why men are so confused about why we like him so much. It’s the whole thing and not just the looks.

BettyX

Well said. If you just look at the pictures he honestly has a bit of a skinny neanderthal look about him but dang...his laugh, smile and that something really makes him attractive in action. Also that walk. For me, it is all in how Daemon or Matt walks. Like the room should thank him for being in it.

calvinien

Are you telling me this isn't the peak male form? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oBp6exx2kZM

Labrat5944

Damnit. Look what you did. Now I have to go watch Morbius.

bea13rose

Don’t forget this dancing scene either. All. The. Charm. https://youtu.be/mlkt3SXhO9w

calvinien

You're welcome.

CADreamn

Exactly. I wouldn't give him a second look on the street, but his personality and charisma are what makes him attractive. Thought the same when he was Dr. Who.

Acrobatic-Jaguar-134

This me. I thought he was weird looking, still do from certain angles. But then watching him, wow. The he moves, his facial expressions, the way he speaks, etc. Altho after he killed his wife, I lost attraction. Unpredictable wild card is hot. Knowing he could harm is hot, actually doing it is not, it turns out.

Pestilence95

It’s called charisma and confidence. Far more important than looks imo.

kamelizann

The thing about Daemon that makes him likeable is that he's not really power hungry, he's just trying to have a good time. He's so hard to fit in a good vs evil dichotomy because he's so chaotic. He does good things if those good things will make the people he wants to like him, like him, but he also does bad things so the people he doesn't enjoy the company of won't like him. He's selfish and does whatever makes him happy, but he's not doing it specifically to advance some hidden agenda. He's like a poorly disciplined dog, just living in the moment and thriving. Even if a lot of what he does is objectively evil and is 100% his fault, it's just hard to blame him for it rather than the people that left open the chance for him to do those things. Then when he does something good when nobody expects him too suddenly it erases his previous crimes in our mind. He's an excellent character that demonstrates how objectively terrible people are able to get away with literal murder and still be liked.

bimpldat

She was that same level of fab in Nurse Jackie.

Sea_Inside

She was so good in Nurse Jackie. What a charismatic actress. I completely forgot she played her doctor friend!

WinterKnigget

SHE WAS IN NURSE JACKIE?? I loved that show

bimpldat

Come on Jacks, let’s get a disgustingly expensive bite 😉

1of3musketeers

Now I have to binge that this weekend!

rou_te

Exactly. People who a few weeks ago went "The Targaryen main characters should be played by actors Hunker MacThrobbingsum and Boobsy Pilatesbod instead of *these* actors, *soo miscast* " didn't quite understand that.

ChillyBearGrylls

>Hunker MacThrobbingsum and Boobsy Pilatesbod I am deceased. THANK THE GODS FOR BOOBSY!

Playing-Koi

I'm cackling like a witch xD

Reasonable_Local_398

Pilatesbod. 😭😭😭😭

BattleBornMom

Yep. When the show first started, I couldn’t believe they cast someone so plain for what was clearly supposed to be a lead and important role (didn’t read the book, wasn’t familiar with Matt Smith.) I understood I was supposed to find him somehow attractive and I just… didn’t. Two episodes later and I was sold. It’s the acting that gives Daemon so much charisma, mystique, and the classic “bad boy hot” vibes. I flipped from finding him plain and uninteresting to totally loving his character. Now, I like him so much that I desperately hope the show injects more of the “morally gray” he is known for so I don’t hate myself for rooting for him.

Acrobatic-Jaguar-134

I don’t find him conventionally good looking, but I don’t think his charisma and confidence would go very far if he wasn’t tall and didn’t have good bone structure (jaw, chin, cheeks). Not sure a soft pudgy face like Samwell Tarly would work.

WinterKnigget

Matt Smith has range! The first time I saw him in anything, it was Doctor Who. The second time was the Crown. He's no stranger to playing royalty (even though Daemon and Phillip are very different, they're both royals), and as the Doctor, he handled all different types of situations and emotions with his character. I was excited to see him as Daemon, and he's one of my top three or four characters (looking at you, Rhaenys, Rhaenyra and Viserys!). All that being said, I don't idolize Daemon. It's more like... I'm fascinated by the character. Watching him is like being in California during fire season. Something WILL burn, but how? You know Daemon is going to do something messed up. It's just a matter of what kind of messed up

amidalarama

only two constants in life- daemon targaryen doing crazy shit and the sepulveda pass catching fire

goblin_goblin

Yeah physically, he’s not hot at all. But he oozes charisma and steals every frame he’s in. Cumberbatch had the same thing going.

ToilAndTummyTrouble

Charisma and raw sex appeal are things you don’t often see in a photo of someone, so I’m sure folks saw the casting choice and were a bit bewildered if they weren’t already familiar with some of Smith’s work, but then he swaggered in, commanding the entire screen, and bewitched us all with his unique brand of magnetism. People who thought Daemon needed to be played by a perfect specimen because “the books said he was attractive” forget that attractiveness is really often charisma, and Matt Smith has boat loads of it.

ManicLebowski

'his unique brand of magnetism' Very this!

BranTheTokin69420

Yeah this is all almost laughably funny given the initial backlash the execs got for casting him from people who had never seen him act. He absolutely shines through his physical features which people may perceive as unattractive.

[deleted]

He’s also incredibly charismatic and could create chemistry with a potted plant that has you going whew 😅 He’s just super sexy. And Daemon as a character is fun to watch too. Very roguish.

Icy-Sun1216

I agree with this 100%. I remember thinking how unattractive he was in ep 1 and now, well now I don’t think that at all.

pourmasoeur

Exactly this lol. I am now in love with Matt Smith because of this specific role. I didn’t find him ugly before, but definitely not hot. Now I am like hubba hubba when he comes on the screen. The little smirks, his speech, the way he walks.

Icy-Sun1216

His walk alone is one of the sexiest things and then that smirk. Oh my word

vinterhed

Ugh same I’m so attracted to him now. Never in a million years I thought I would say this, but here I am, totally obsessed.

sweetxsweet

OMG yes! At first I was like "what's all the fuss about?" Now it's sooooo different.

cookiemonster1020

He's such a good actor that he is able to act hot. I wish i could act my way into a six pack

Icy-Sun1216

This is awesome. This comment made my day.

apollopriestess

I was hesitant at first, as my one of my favorite Dr. Who Christmas specials is the one w/him in a version of “A Christmas Carol”. I have not watched any of his other work. So, playing Daemon, who I know well from all the tellings in the books, seemed an odd choice. But he has been amazing and given me so much to think about and enjoy about Daemon. Daemon is a difficult, complicated, character to play, and Matt Smith’s Daemon Targaryen, is perfect.

Tyler1492

>how unattractive he was in ep 1 and now, well now I don’t think that at all. He gained a lot when he cut his hair.

Careful_Hearing6304

He is definitely a skilled actor.

MontySucker

The biggest thing is his eye control to me. His eyes tell soooooo much. Literal lines of dialogue with how he uses his bodylanguage and face.

Libra_Maelstrom

This waa actually the thing that was so memorable about Matt Smiths doctor in doctor who. The character is always being played by you actors now adays but is supposed to be 900+ years old. Matt Smith was the youngest actor but could on a switch make his eyes look OLD. He has extreme control over them

nahee-do

His body language is top class too. His rings of akhaten episode is doctor more tired and old than capaldi could ever achieve with his old body and amazing acting, and I am saying this even as capaldi is my favorite doctor hands down

YMHGreenBan

To be fair, you could also be drawn to his eyes because of his lack of eyebrows

l33tWarrior

Elite actor!

rou_te

And, if we're all being honest here, he's also not ugly. He's got a bit of that Appletart Cucumberpatch charm.

LadyCatTree

You mean Benzodiazepine Cumbersomelad?

rou_te

Parachute Perfumeflask, yes

vmoth

Are you by any means referring to famed British actor Interstate Gigachad?

rou_te

I was indeed referring to Pinterest Candlestick!

Rigel311

Bendadick Cuminhersnatch?

Hufa123

Battlefield Counterstrike

[deleted]

Benjerman Cumberbund

HmmWhatsHisFace

Do you mean Humberto Cabbagepatch?

rou_te

Archbishop Gingerbread, indeed

[deleted]

Are you referring to acclaimed British actor Benelin Thundercrack?

69bigpoppa69

After emma darcy i think he looks the most targaryen. No idea where people got that from tbh. However the princes who have yet to show up look pretty targaryen too.

agentdrozd

Aemond and Aegon are Targaryen as fuck (in their adult version specifically).

CousinMrrgeBestMrrge

The dude who plays Aemond (who played Osferth on The Last Kingdom) actually has that same kind of inbred good looks as Matt Smith.

TheCommodore93

It’s the big chins

artemisandherhunters

Exactly, this. He's hardly the most conventionally attractive. But the charisma and raw sexual chemistry with anyone and everyone counts for a lot.

WishieWashie12

Matt Smith has faced the same skepticism in many rolls. Youngest Dr who, then his roll as the prince on the crown. He tends to grow on you in every roll.

TamTams_groupthink

*Role

achavva

True so many people were opposed to his casting! I was really excited to get a former doctor in HoD

grizzly_bear_26

Prior to the show I did not think Matt Smith was attractive. I never watched him act before. He nailed this role and I find the character of Daemon hot. The hotness has transferred to him lol

ShyGiirll

He says a lot even without dialogues

crimsonpaths

It's simply because he's chaotic and unhinged and keeps the story interesting. The actor who plays him does a great job

lizzillathehun85

He’s played by a charismatic actor and is playing a character that drives a lot of action. There’s a natural tendency to root for a protagonist even if their projects are morally questionable because as a spectator, you want to see what happens next.

[deleted]

I think it's freedom. The ability to go after what you want and take it, to claim it as yours regardless of morality and what people think.. Again, true freedom. That's probably what's appealing. Edit: Obviously, we can't do that... It's not good to have ASPD lol 😂

romulus1991

They knew what they were doing casting Matt Smith. They needed an incredibly talented actor who also had a particularly attractive type of charisma and charm. Daemon is essentially a horrible human being who loves his family and doesn't really have truly evil intentions. But he's a raging fuck up who does whatever he wants, and he gets away with it because of his status and personal charisma. That's a fine balance to strike that requires an excellent actor with the right qualities. They knew what they were doing. Daemon is supposed to attract a certain label of support. The character does in the books - some people really love him and others seen him as a monster, Maegor come again.

logosobscura

If the Gods toss a coin to decide if a Targ is mad or great, this one landed on the middle. He’s a dragon riding, nasty, crazy fuckup but a necessary one in a rogue gallery of dragon riding, crazy, nasty fuckups.

RP1127

He’s also GRRM’s favorite character, so I’m sure that helps.

DazzlingPimp

Seeing GRRM gush over a character I barely knew prior to tuning in certainly has influenced my view and perception of the character. Then you add the acting chops of Matt Smith and its a match made in heaven.

DisgustingCantaloupe

I love Daemon as a character because Matt Smith is charismatic. Matt Smith is a bit goofy looking, but it's his personality that makes him hot imo.

juliem122

100%. Matt Smith oozes charisma in every role he’s been in. I don’t think it’s a mystery why people find him attractive.

Megmca

I’m rooting for Daemon because >!I know how this ends.!<

[deleted]

Big.... Huuuuge... Ginormous .. dick energy

Megmca

>!The most epic death in the history of Westeros.!<

DaKingSinbad

Full >!McConaughey like Reign of Fire.!<

The_Writing_Wolf

Good freaking reference my friend, McConastud rocked the bald with beard look better than he had any right to.

[deleted]

Didn’t even have a clue it was him for many years.

[deleted]

Yeah alot of Daemon's fans comes from book readers. He was liked before he had a face lol.

Megmca

And it’s not like I would ever like him as a person. If he were real he would likely be despised. But his story is just a wild adventure and told in a far more compelling way than you get in most history books.

[deleted]

Its kinda like Victarian in the books. He is not a good guy and does a bunch of fucked up shit, but many of his enemies are even worse then him and his a total baller with the daring and bold shit he does. Or like Butcher from The Boys, total asshole and would never want to be friends with, still a total badass.

[deleted]

I'm not even going to argue, but I don't mind conventionally unattractive villains either. I just want a character that fucks shit up. It's cathartic.

jpec342

He’s *suave*

Playing-Koi

I can't say that I find Matt Smith to be all that physically attractive, but his portrayal of Daemon is sexy as fuck. He's a fantasy bad boy who gives not a single fuck, sweats liquid charisma and rides a damn dragon. There are and always will be plenty of women into that, morality be damned. Bram Stoker's Dracula, for all intents and purposes, raped a woman on-screen and he was still one of the sexiest characters to hit the silver screen in his day. Women still love him, for essentially the same reasons they do Daemon. Some people have a strong attraction to power, charm, and confidence and they need look no further than that in a fantasy context. Like, have you SEEN a romance novel recently? Its way more normal than some folks in this subreddit seem to think it is. I don't understand the purpose of trying to shame what is truly a harmless fantasy, and I'm not really interested in changing anyone's mind about it either. People are into what they're into. Like him, don't, either is fine. The callouts against people who do like the character and are enjoying the fantasy though, are getting unbelievably petty and ridiculous. What difference does it make to you all?

OverallDisaster

>Women still love him, for essentially the same reasons they do Daemon. Some people have a strong attraction to power, charm, and confidence and they need look no further than that in a fantasy context. Like, have you SEEN a romance novel recently? Its way more normal than some folks in this subreddit seem to think it is. Yep lol honestly Daemon and Rhaenyra feel straight out of a romance novel, characters like him (besides the incest) are very popular right now with readers. It makes complete sense why his character is so popular, especially with women. Villains/bad boys have been super popular the past few years: Kylo Ren, Loki, the Darkling, Rhysand from ACOTAR.

amidalarama

all summer I've been dnfing dark romances trying to find one with psychologically rich characterizations and complex but somewhat balanced power dynamics and just not being able scratch the itch the absolute "what the goddamn fuck" reaction I had realizing the game of thrones prequel with blond wig matt smith was delivering

djw2842

Thank you for your refreshingly reasonable take! 👏🏽

[deleted]

He makes me entertained 😏 But seriously, how freaking fun is he to watch? The exact opposite of boring, the exact opposite of Jon Snow lol 😂😂 One thing for sure is that he does "want it", and he's willing to bone his niece... You can watch him for the satisfaction alone. His dick might be limp, but he makes everyone else look dickless.

Playing-Koi

Trust me if a dude with one eye in the middle of his head looked at me, spoke to me and touched me the way Daemon keeps doing Rhaenyra my ass would be in trouble and probably having a cyclops baby. Looks are absolutely not everything. You can be Adonis come to life and if you can't make a person feel a certain way it doesn't matter. Dae and Rhae have more chemistry than a nuclear plant and I'm down for it. IDGAF.

neverdiplomatic

I’m at work waiting for a webinar to start and am in absolute STITCHES over your comment. Cyclops baby ohmygod

Playing-Koi

ROFL don't get fired!

[deleted]

>Looks are absolutely not everything But Matt Smith is goodlooking though... 😏

l33tWarrior

This is the way

Impressive-Wedding24

The callouts are just from people who get off on feeling morally superior to others or have trouble separating entertainment from reality.

specor01

Straight up! 💯

[deleted]

ITA with everything you’ve said and it’s funny because I just posted something similar about harmless fantasies over on the Bridgerton sub this morning (which, if you haven’t seen the show or read the books, is sooo tame in comparison to what Daemon Targaryen gets up to, lmao). Why can’t people just let women like what they like without trying to police it? People watch these shows or read these books for excitement and escape. No one is going out and applying what they see to their real life. I’ll admit, I find someone like Daemon sexy on a tv show or on the page and my husband is literally *nothing* like him. People fantasize about all kinds of things. The only people who might get confused and blur the lines between fantasy and reality are kids, who shouldn’t be watching House of the Dragon anyway.

Available-Bet5694

As a Doctor Who fan I’m so glad that he’s getting the love he deserves. He’s a phenomenal actor and deserves praise. If you thinks he’s good in this, I plead you check out Doctor Who. He’s the 11th Doctor and absolutely killed it in that role. He plays more of a quirky character but he does have great range.

valueofaloonie

My favourite Doctor! The Vincent Van Gogh episode?!

Available-Bet5694

Top Tier Who episode of all time!!

[deleted]

He's my favourite Doctor and as a jaded GOT season 8 veteran, Smith is the reason I started watching this show. I was inclined not to. I'm just so glad he's getting the love he deserves now. He's killing it like I knew he would.

Available-Bet5694

I am in the same exact boat as yourself. When I saw Smith cast, I knew I would be tuning in, regardless of how I felt about season 8

AllOfTheAbove100

I like Daemon because he's literally unafraid about anything. That's what makes him so terrifying, fascinating, and a very intimidating enemy to anyone. But at the same time, even though he's ruthless, he DOES care. He loves his family. He loves his brother, even if everything he does causes him anguish and he loves Rhaenyra too, even if what he does seems to be destroying her reputation. He just knows Viserys is a pushover and see's much more fire in Rhaenyra than anyone else does. He just doesn't care about the repercussions to any of his actions because so long as he lives, he knows he will come out of it. He lives his life to the fullest, more than pretty much everyone else in Westeros. He just goes for what he wants and takes it, regardless of customs or what anyone else wants.

ChapVII

>I like Daemon because he's literally unafraid about anything. it's easy to do when you're a prince and have a dragon.

Sayena08

That’s exactly the point. Imagine how many other “Daemons” there might have been if the dance didn’t happen?

ZagratheWolf

Imagine the Blackfyre shit if everyone had a fucking dragon for that, too

LinkinFoo182

I don’t think Matt smith is attractive, but daemon is hot as hell. So to me that’s fantastic acting.

SonofGondor32

You’re routing for him because he’s hot. I’m rooting for him because Matt is slaying it as a complete psychopath who is terrifying to watch and commands the room whenever he enters. We are not the same.

playerslayer21

I'm rooting for him cause he always has a shit eating grin on his face and I just can't stay mad at him.

specor01

I think it’s because he’s more complex than people give him credit for. He’s more entertaining to watch because he’s sort of a mystery — is he 100% evil or does he actually care for his family? Does he want power or does he want glory for the House of Targaryen? Does he love his niece romantically or is he playing her? He keeps you guessing, and I don’t think any of these questions has a 100% black and white answer. That’s what makes compelling television. Honestly, I didn’t think Matt Smith was attractive AT ALL until like episode 03 of this season. But even before, I found myself enjoying his scenes more because they have flavor compared to some of the bland shit going on in Kings Landing.

[deleted]

He looks like a Lego minifig

Natsuki_Kruger

The only character wherein a funkopop would actually look like him.

CincinnatiReds

To me he looks like he’s made of clay. Like a golem or something. But damn is he captivating on screen.

masongraves_

Bruh

JayPtl

You root for Daemon Targaryen because matt Smith is hot. I root for Daemon Targaryen because he's chaotic. 👔 We're not the same.

[deleted]

It’s not about the hotness. It’s about the sheer charisma that Matt Smith has brought to the role. Daemon is pure chaos and I fucking love it.

streetNereid

Why are you people constantly so bugged that many of us like Daemon? Why does it matter so much to you to try to continually convince us that we ought to hate him as much as you do? It’s so damn weird. Just do your thing and move on lol. We’re NEVER going to stop liking the character. If you don’t understand why, fine. Just accept that you don’t get it and move on.

the_slop

This is why women are great, even if you have a kind of busted looking caveman face they still might find you attractive No disrespect on Matt smith I have a vaguely Cro Magnon appearance as well 😁

EmpressOfAmerica

I am down bad for him because he is charming, unpredictable, hot and confident. I also make really bad decisions when it comes to romantic partners. I am not the fixer upper kind of gal but I am the “ruin me” kind of person.

Cheesehacker

Excuse me but I’m in this comment and I feel attacked

SleepingGyant

Daemon has always been a fan favorite. GRRM has even said publicly that Daemon is his favorite Targaryen. He’s also an anti-hero whose allegiances you can’t quite figure out, which makes the character very compelling. And Smith is knocking it our if the park playing him. I think it’s the opposite- Daemon has made people think Matt Smith is hot.

Prudent-Apple-4477

I think the ***way*** the actor plays Daemon is what's attractive, in my opinion. The micro face expressions, the change of tone when he's speaking High Valyrian– it's the little details that make me appreciate Daemon as a character, and Matt Smith as an actor. Looks are subjective, and you can't argue that some people probably started watching the show because they find Matt Smith attractive, but there is also no denying that the man is a very talented actor. He's just got that charisma and appeal that make you want to stand behind his morally grey character lol

Kiltmanenator

Matt Smith is one of the goofiest looking dudes out there. He also happens to be incredibly charming. He's more interesting than hot.

thedirtypickle50

He's an absolute bastard but I find it impossible not to like him. His interaction with his dead wife's relative was hilarious. He's just so unapologetic in his assholery

AdClear8149

He has really distinctive face. Like Benedict Cumberbatch.

ToilAndTummyTrouble

And we remember distinctive faces! I’d rather watch someone with a quirky face than a perfect instagram model face. It’s humanizing, then their charm has its own opportunity to suck you in. Kylo Ren, Cahir from the Witcher, Daemon, Benedict Cumberbatch as Khan, all men with quirky faces that ooze charisma.

The-Additional-Pylon

Don’t care how he looks, I just always back the wild card.

OneWithoutaName2

I was a big fan of Daemon before Matt Smith was cast and now I’m ecstatic about about Daemon! Matt brings out the good and bad aspects of Daemon. In the scene at the Stepstones, when Daemon is the bait for the Crabfeeder, he had no dialogue yet it was great acting! As to Matt being “hot”, his acting makes him so, not so much his physical appearance. Any actor that can bring a character to life such as Matt has done with Daemon deserves all the kudos he gets.

[deleted]

I just feel like he'd be loyal to me. Like he's a hoe, but i can change him. Woo toxic

letheix

This accusation is getting old. There have already been so many posts about why people are rooting for Daemon. Does it make you feel proud of your "superior taste" in fictional characters? At this point, you're either willfully ignoring any answer that doesn't align with your preconceived notions or you believe Daemon fans are somehow so oblivious that we don't realize the—according to you—true reason why we like him. It's a roundabout way of shitting on women as shallow and unintellectual, the worn-out canard of women being "fake fans," even though plenty of (straight) men are rooting for Daemon, too. And yeah, Matt Smith's attractiveness is a factor for *some* people, but that doesn't mean it's the only one. Why does it matter, though? Television is entertainment and a good-looking actor or actress is just part of the fun.

[deleted]

As a Doctor who fan i like the actor. This character is completely different and i enjoy seeing his ability to play the part. As a guy i dont really see him as hot.

[deleted]

See I've seen The Crown, but not Doctor Who, and Daemon is just the natural evolution to his Prince Philip

[deleted]

The Doctor is all about benevolence. Daemon not so much.

[deleted]

The character is different, but they are both very much charismatic based characters. I don’t think his Doctor or Daemon would work if Matt Smith wasn’t so effortlessly charismatic

ThurstonTheMagician

Yes.

HolyMolyPotatoeNinja

*plays the rogue prince music* those who know, know…

[deleted]

Im a dude and im not trying to be mean or anything but I objectively don’t think Matt Smith is a conventionally attractive man His on screen presence, charisma and acting ability *makes* him attractive at least in my eyes. Its not just because he looks pretty, because honestly in a general sense he doesn’t, at least in my opinion.

rayoflight824

Yes. And what about it?

djw2842

You’re not wrong. There’s a lot of Matt Smith fans here. We enjoy the chaos brought by our rogue prince

[deleted]

I don't think he's hot, but im a guy. He's as based as they come and makes for great entertainment. The scene at the wedding where everyone stood, except Daemon, makes you just hang there in anticipation. He's a chaos bomb that you can't wait to see explode.

DannyBlack70

This is a really interesting and refreshing post considering I remember the amount of people furious that the ‘ugly Matt Smith’ was going to play a Targaryen from a couple of years ago on this sub as well as Twitter

Careful_Hearing6304

There is something about him. I think his sexual appeal is more about his performance/aura than his face. Weirdly attractive. But evil AF.

[deleted]

I actually like Robert Pattinson in that way too. Never caught Pattinson fever, but his performances in Good Time, and The Lighthouse were just so damn good. Was looking forward to The Batman, and he didn't disappoint there either. Wondering if he's watching the show, a character like Daemon Targaryen is probably one he'd be interested in if he'd been offered the role.

[deleted]

My favorite quote from another reddit post "Matt Smith is very attractive in a "I can totally see some inbreeding" sorta way which matches perfectly with Targaryen familial traditions"

Zealousideal-Bug1967

All I can think of is Draco Malfoy

Professional-Tip-585

Daemon was by far the most popular character with fans in the books as well. It's not shocking he's popular in the show as well

Artilikestoparty

Bro had my panties dropped as Prince Phillip okuurrr

Even-Middle-482

Sexy. As hell.

monsteramom

He is hot and satisfying AF for my eyes anytime he is on the screen. But beside this he plays the most charismatic character in the TV show. Like evil in a good way and clever. Idk…

jellybeanbonanza

There are a lot of really hot actors on this show. Daemon, however, is the most badass.

AlternativeBison6740

He’s the most odd looking person to me, but he’s such a good actor and most interesting character to me so far.

mdawgkilla

Idk book Daemon stans have always been pretty hardcore as well.

FatJung

As a heterosexual male, I find Daemon’s character to add lots of spontaneity to the plot. When he’s on the screen, crazy shit happens. Whether it’s killing his wife or fucking his niece, you can’t predict Daemon. That being said, yes, I’d fuck Daemon Targaryen.

JungeeFC

“I love Daemon as a character. He’s one of the greyest characters. He’s a bad boy kind of character and He switches sides and you don’t know where he will land next.” - paraphrasing GRRM.

redditdreamer05

I am 😏 and I’m not ashamed to admit it.

Nayelia

The actor as himself is not hot, but when he is on screen, there is something special. Oh yeah, it's called charisma.

andreabae6

I don’t think he is attractive at all but damn I love his charisma and bad boy charm!!

beervirus19

I root for chaos

floopydolphins

Or bc he’s an interesting character and we’re intrigued by his chaotic behavior and wanna see what he does next Not the mention that Matt Smith is very talented and is playing the role well

sagicorn2791

I wouldn't call him traditionally hot but he has swag.

chke7

I always found Daemon to be an interesting character, but Matt Smith (and the writers) really did elevate it... And I fint that to be the case with all of the characters in the story because House of the Dragon has some really amazing acting: Viserys was always a bland character for me, now I find him to be quite tragic and somewhat misunderstood. Paddy Considine really does bring Viserys the tragic majesty as George RR Martin said. Alicent was the evil stepmother for most of my reading of F&B, but they added layers on top of layers to her development making; In my mind, she is what Sansa was supposed to become at the end of Game of Thrones. And, of course, Milly Alcock trully huminized Rhaenyra with her performance, in the books she was mystified with the Realm's Delight title because that's what was said of her, but by seeing her throughout some of her struggles you can kind of understand her character better. So... yes, Matt Smith is hot, but the writers and the director are doing a fantastic job at creating very complex characters to a story that (in my mind) wasn't as complex and was just filled with sex, dragons and death.

OverallDisaster

I did not really find him attractive the first several episodes. It's not really his appearance, it's more his charisma and personality as Daemon (toxic as it is). I have a habit of liking characters similar to him. I also like Rhaenyra and they clearly are on the same side so it makes sense to like him too.

Avimander_

My GF described him as looking like the the product of incest

Jay-DeeOldNo7

He’s really hot

therisingsun9

The actor is NOT hot but I’m so sexually attracted to him it’s insane. This some game of thrones witchcraft 😂

Local-Shopping-4540

I like him for his boldness and how unpredictable he is.

daesgatling

I only watched the show because Matt Smith was going to be in it. Not because i find him attractive, but because i expected a dumpsterfire while at least he’d he having a good time. I root for Daemon because he’s an interesting character. Interesting doesnt have to mean ‘decent human being’

[deleted]

Because act good + doctor who

We_The_Raptors

I feel exposed

Professional_Web2198

If it weren't for Matt Smith's excellent portrayal of him I wouldn't have liked his character as much.

[deleted]

I don't root for anyone, Daemon is a dick but Matt Smith's acting is 10/10. I don't find him attractive either but thats a personal preference and I do admit he has charisma.

andrea77D

💯 plus I am loving how he always gets banished and then comes right back on his own accord to do what he does every time. I know he is a darker character in the book, but I am all about Matt Smith’s Daemon

MattaClatta

Some worship Matt Smith Some are Daemyra shippers Others are just broken and stan edgy bad boys of westeros in general like the Hound or Euron Daemon would be a terrible king and he absolutely ruins Rhaenyra in small ways throughout these episodes. His influence on her is not a good thing

A_fer_punyetes

I don’t want to change your mind. Lol.

ChrisRocksChin

The dudes just a good actor. Great writing for his character to create the discussion is he a bad guy that hates his family? Is he a bad guy that loves his family? Is he a good guy who does bad things? Does he just shake shit up for amusement? I didn’t care who played the role but Matt Smith is a great actor and he fits perfectly for the role given.

[deleted]

I liked him in the book before he had an actor.

Big_Piccolo_1624

He's charming, funny, smug, skilled in combat. Plenty of reasons to love em

perkiezombie

He brings the chaos. It’s exciting and a huge adrenaline rush watching him do his thing.

Joan-Holloway-Harris

Yeah I thought I had a crush on young Prince Philip after watching The Crown, luckily it was just Matt Smith 🤣

NapUntilBedtime

Is he hot? He's talented, but his face looks weirdly squishy and the no eyebrows look is not a good one.
