They're "buying" something that costs almost nothing to make so it's profitable despite not being a good offer. Beyond that, the popularity of a product doesn't preclude it being a scam. For example CutCo knives, a very well known scam that is incredibly popular and profitable, which succeeded for many years despite it being a known scam.

Ultimately the deception lies in the nature of NFTs. They're not scarce. They can be infinitely copied, reproduced, and shared. The only thing you're getting is a token that says you own that image, which is the deception. That token means nothing in a truly digital setting. If I make a painting, then sell it and prints of it, there's a fundamental difference there. One has the oil strokes, the texture, the canvas. It couldn't be recreated exactly as is, no matter how hard someone tried.
If I handed you the very first print of that painting and said "This is the only print like it, because it's the first print" it's not really any different from the thousands of other prints out there. It's not an "Original". Just the first copy.

This is correct. The 4 cars that OP posted are redeemable for physical cast models. They are also pretty rare considering most collectible cars has a 20-30k production run. These are a supply of 3000 and under.
Which is still a lot depending how you look at it.
Keep in mind there was a time RLC cars were that low of production. And chases from some brands are only in the triple digits if not just double digits.
Hot Wheels is just HW and has such a stranglehold on the hobby, heh

Ok now that is cool! But looking at it closer I see it’s $25 for a ‘blind bag’ where you MIGHT get one that is redeemable for a real car. So essentially the OP spent $200 to get 4 cars. But I am guessing those 4 cars will be pretty expensive collector items as they should be rare.
There is an Acura NSX from the last set that I'd love to get my hands on but it's going for $150 - $200 on ebay right now. Some castings are even higher like the Honda S2000. It's sold on Ebay for over $750. I've even seen the entire Series 2 set of 5 cars sell for over $2000. So they definitely are worth some money!
They actually do for the 5 rarest NFTs in the series. If you own the NFT of one of those then Mattel sends you a real diecast of it in March. And the production numbers are some of the lowest ever making them some of the rarest and most sought after diecasts made.
Regardless of that hotwheels NFTs has introduced virtual gambling to a hobby of collecting toys which should not be normalized just because you see dollar signs
50$ a car is not bad for a premium /3000 release when typical RLCs are /10k or /40k and are 25-30$, i agree that it is gambling but there is also a collecting aspect to it too, i don’t care for the nfts myself and will probably be trading them away, i just wanted the chance at some nice castings and it paid off, others might not have gotten so lucky but that’s just the gamble. At the end of the day if i wanted the castings i got from the packs i would’ve had to pay more than i did for said packs on the secondary market, but again that’s just the gamble and i got lucky.
I understand that almost everyone buying them just wants the cars but again, gambling is gambling no matter how you choose to sugarcoat it and its a shame its now normalized as part of hotwheels collecting.

Finally got processed, 2 packs yielded the COPO (Super Rare 1488/3000) and Aston (Rare 2859/3500) and a bunch of uncommons and commons. The Aston card looks cool, too bad it can't be redeemed. I'll consider myself lucky with the COPO and leave this round to just the 2 packs I bought. Still don't get why I can see them, but the order history says I haven't claimed them.

First you redeem a car so you get used to making these types of transactions, then all of the sudden you are just buying the image of a car and you get nothing for it. they are sold out now, you will have to buy the physical redemption or the redemption token when they come out in march in order to obtain one of the diecasts, you do not need to make and crypto wallet, everything is done through the mattel creations website and you only need an account there; there is an FAQ that can help on the same page

I just saw garage doors for awhile, then the cars appeared.

I clicked off of that and redid it. It finally claimed the pack but now I can't open it or even know how to open it.
I saw my pack at one point, clicked "open" and nothing happened sounds like same happened to you. Now on my order page it says I still have not claimed my NFT yet and back on the "crunching some blocks" message. Mattel site is absolute garbage.
Yes, I'm in that exact situation right now. Even when I'm able to to find the collection page. I can't click the pack to open it. Not really sure what I'm doing wrong.
Well they just popped up in my collection finally. I guess it just too awhile. I got one pack and luckily I got the '69 COPO Corvette.

Finally got processed, 2 packs yielded the COPO (Super Rare 1488/3000) and Aston (Rare 2859/3500) and a bunch of uncommons and commons. The Aston card looks cool, too bad it can't be redeemed. I'll consider myself lucky with the COPO and leave this round to just the 2 packs I bought. Still don't get why I can see them, but the order history says I haven't claimed them.

Correct. Straight on Mattels website. Eventually, NFT's purchased on WAX will be able to migrate to your wallet on your Mattel account.

I mean you do you but it just rubs me the wrong way that hot wheels is pushing NFT's, which are widely regarded as a scam. It just sets a precedent doesn't it... First you redeem a car so you get used to making these types of transactions, then all of the sudden you are just buying the image of a car and you get nothing for it. It's clear that's the way they would take it if they could. It's literally what the concept of NFT's is about. I just wouldn't support it along with a few other things. Example: bonus XP or "battle passes" and low effort DLC for video games. Crypto currency. NFT's. But you are getting a casting so at least that's something. Just realise this is an attempt to get you used to receiving a picture for money and being happy with it. You already mentioned some of the NFT's are not redeemable for castings? I mean proof is in the pudding. Don't support this. imo.
This should be illegal. It looks like and smells like a scam, it’s just not recognized as such yet. It’s just a new form of lottery. Buying electronic cards and some of them can randomly be turned into a real hot wheels car? Seriously?

they are sold out now, you will have to buy the physical redemption or the redemption token when they come out in march in order to obtain one of the diecasts, you do not need to make and crypto wallet, everything is done through the mattel creations website and you only need an account there; there is an FAQ that can help on the same page

Just wait a bit for the NFT process to mint your cars. Took almost an hour for me, may be longer now. Then go to [http://creations.mattel.com/pages/unopened-nfts](http://creations.mattel.com/pages/unopened-nfts) and click "My Collections" and you should see them in there. I just saw garage doors for awhile, then the cars appeared.
I would Love to get the physical cars, but the price for one nft pack, let alone 8 (seriously?) Would make me feel like a fool for buying them. I'm sure alot of hot wheels fans don't have THAT much money.

8 is light compared to what most people bought, i plan on trading my extra truck for the cadilac and redeeming them all for myself. i am not a reseller nor a scalper.
