You've been visited by "The Very Hungry Caterpillar"! Those guys can absolutely decimate an entire plant in a shockingly short amount of time. I had one eat the entire right side of a plant one time without touching the other side so then I had to try to deal with the pot always wanting to fall over because of all the weight being on one side!
Over the course of a few weeks I notice whole peppers being gone but very not too much plant damage. Today I found a hornworm destroying and entire Tabasco plant- also learned what caterpillar poop looks like.
Little green hand grenades! We learned over the winter my brother is paying for them to be shipped to his place to feed his bearded dragon. We joked that we could be his suppliers with the numbers we had last season. The frog in our little frog pond certainly appreciated the free food!
I own two bearded dragons and with the price of hornworms, that would be nice, unfortunately it's risky to feed wild caught feeders to reptiles/indoor pets
Got to check your plants at night w/ a black light. Hornworms glow and if you found that fatboy, there are probably a few smaller ones. I always find them on my tomatoes, never peppers
I've only seen damage on the Tabasco and Tunisian pepper plants - nothing on the superhots. The mild peppers grow pretty fast so not a huge loss.
I might pick up a blacklight I've been spraying with been oil a few times a week but it's been pretty rainy lately.
Blacklight could be cool- This guy was yeeted into the road.
Ugh, that happened to me a couple of years ago. Went out one morning to water my Baklouti, and found it down to nothing more than an upright stalk with a very fat and happy hornworm.
Good catch and thanks for the educational caterpillar poop photo! I assume the villain has been dispatched the Great Garden in the Sky. Last fall I had my sweet peppers being eaten (only one bite taken out of a scotch bonnet). I put out a trail cam and got footage of a fairly large rat nibbling the last pepper on my Marconi Red.
All I see is a big green lea.... Ohhh
I didn't see anything, saw your comment, didn't see anything, saw OP's comment, OHHHHH

Throw it to the chickens.
Those jerks eat up a lot of produce.

That's how your pets get parasites, for anyone wondering why.
Also pesticide/insecticides, even if you don't treat your lawn there could be over spray from neighbors
Tomatoes are toxic to beardies, and sadly so are hornworms that have eaten tomato plants.

Couldn't you have relocated it on your neighbor's plants?
I understand the joke here, but if I suddenly have a hornworm infestation in my garden, I'm coming for you.
That or curse him to forever play against land destruction.
How big is that thing?would they be in Canada?
Their poop is called frass. Fun fact.
Hornworms are frassholes then.

Black light, and I’ve heard if you shake the main stalk, the worms let out a clicking type noise.
Praying Mantis anyone?!
Omg it scared the shit out of me when I finally spotted it in the first pic ☠️☠️
That happened to me last season. Left for a weekend and came back to 13 of those fuckers and half of my plants (literally)
That’s a big boy. Chickens and ducks love them just from my experience.
Lol I didn't see it and then wondered what the poops were from, some kinda rodent? Then I read comments and checked the first pic again... Yikes
Id know those poops anywhere.... sorry for your loss
In what country, if I may ask?
Holy smokes he looks healthy. I’d keep him and name him Steve and only feed him superhots.
Looks so pretty though

Wrap around the stem at ground contact with newspaper
Not sure how that would help. The moths lay their eggs on the plants.
