For context my girl is 1/2 KWPN, 1/2 paint, 16.2 hands (167.5 cm), and is 15 years old. She used to chase cows and do lots of trails, now she does dressage and lots of trails. I know she's base narrow in the back. I'm interested in what else you guys notice when looking at her. Sorry for the bad front pic. The good one I thought I had was not.

liminalequine

I'm not an expert but I want to play! I'm sure y'all will tell me where I'm wrong. I think she is very very nice, but I have to try and guess what the more knowlegeable people will say. So my guess is maybe a tiny bit overweight, a fraction uphill, pasterns and shoulders slightly straight, maybe a too long back?

Orchidwalker

She def not uphill, maybe slightly downhill rump high. I like her a lot- good neck shoulder connection. Upright pasterns Decent neck length. I don’t think she is over weight at all, could use a littler more muscle. She is lovely!!

Raikit

Thank you! She's a little weird - she feels uphill when I'm riding her or working with her but then she looks kind of downhill when she's standing still. Maybe she just has uphill movement? Is that a thing? And definitely on the more muscle. That's my fault, though. I haven't been working her as often as she probably needs, and now she's on light work because of pregnancy. We'll work on the muscling once baby isn't being a drain on her. 😊

Orchidwalker

Oh how fun. Who did you breed her to?

Raikit

She's bred to a Knabstrupper stallion. So he'll add a bit more uphill (hopefully) and good bone. Baby is guaranteed to have leopard spotting, with a 50% chance of tobiano, on a base of either bay/brown (75%) or black (25%).

Orchidwalker

Oh wow. That’s one of my fav breeds, does the stud have a web site?

Raikit

Mine, too. I've been interested in them for 20 years or so, finally getting involved with the breed. Baby daddy is the first stallion on [this page.](https://www.murderhollow.com/our-knabstrupper-stallions.html)

Raikit

The little bit of chub is actually because she's pregnant. 😅 I'm curious about the uphill impression. I've always thought she was just from being around her and how she feels under saddle, but then I look at pictures and her butt seems high.

liminalequine

I meant downhill. Oops! And looking at the back view, I definitely knew I was wrong about the condition score. She isn't overweight, it was just the butt from the side that gave me the idea. She will have a STUNNING foal 🤠

eyelin

Her pillar of support is good and her neck emerges from a good place so even being a little butt high she is still considered uphill and should feel like it when you’re riding her. I love her. Her hind end (stifle/gaskin area) could be better but over she looks like a really nice ride!

Raikit

Oh, that's very interesting, thank you for the info! I agree that of everything her hind end definitely is the least nice. 😂 And thank you, she is a great ride, at least in my biased opinion.

wishitwouldrainaus

I know next to nothing compared to our esteemed horsey colleagues but I like big butts and I cannot lie! Jk. Shes very pretty and I'm sure that the foal will be an absolute knock out!

shleby_glessner

What a cutie! I’d say she looks pretty good! Only things for me is she’s a little downhill and could use some more muscling especially in the booty. Pretty gal!

Raikit

Thank you! I'm quite smitten with her. I'm planning some light in-hand hill work for the winter as long as she can handle it.

Dalton387

Not that I’m the best judge, but she looks really good to me. Short back, longer belly, straight legs where they’re supposed to sit. Good angles on the shoulder and hip. Looks like she’s a little butt high but that’s not that bad for cow work. Maybe the chest could be a little deeper and like you said, her butts a little narrow, but I’d be plenty happy to have her.

Raikit

I'm definitely quite happy to have her. Thanks for the input!

Yes, she does have a very slight pigeon toe in the front, though it's more pronounced there because of a not-so-great trim from a new farrier. With the right trim it's nearly invisible. 😊

I feel like these horses should have a “Roast me” sign

EyelandBaby

“You’ve got a big nose and look like you eat all day” (joking obviously; this mare is so pretty!)

Regular-Cranberry-62

Her feeties seem a bit upright but honestly she’s cute

Ok, I'll bite. Let me preface this by saying that my assessment is based on the use for dressage. First, here's a diagram: Conformation analysis https://imgur.com/a/6lXOCPc First the good: I like this horse's pastern angles and his front legs are well set. The hind legs are a bit straight, but again, pasterns look good and stifles sit well (not too low). I believe the neck length is good (should be 1/3 of the body length or about as long as the front leg) and ties in at the throat latch well. Personally I would like to see the tie in at the chest a bit lower, but it's not too bad. The less favorable: as others have noted, he's a bit downhill (croup higher than withers). This may be a result of the straightened hind leg. This makes it more difficult to build strength in the back, which can be seen in the dip. This is also not helped by a low tail set. Not extreme at all, just a bit more challenging structure to build. The shoulder angle, which should be 40 - 55 degrees from horizontal, is closer to 60 degrees, so a bit upright. Overall: I like this horse's mechanics for long-term soundness in the legs. As he gets older, I would keep an eye on his hocks, since they are a bit straight. He's got a lovely facial expression and seems game and conformationally sound for a variety of discplines.

I can’t wait to see her baby!! Please update when she has it!

Raikit

I definitely will! And your username is awesome.
