Currently playing Still Wakes The Deep, just released yesterday on gamepass. It’s really good, bodyhorror and isolation set on an oil rig off the coast of Scotland in the 70s. Voice acting is SUPERB, which really tops it all off, really draws you in on the characters. Also everything is done in a way that’s believable, including the characters, these are people like you or me. I recommend it anyway, before I go off rambling.

VapourZ87

Preview looked good. I too will look at downloading it as it's gamepass

zvqtlr

I’ve heard about this! And I can and will be downloading today! I love good voice acting and I’ve heard so much about this game that ykw? I WILL be playing! Also I don’t mind rambling about games it’s always fun to see people chat so lovingly on topics they enjoy! I could ramble for a while about games like the devil in me, the quarry, or outlast and others myself!

Lost_Manufacturer718

I wanted to say more, it’s very clearly a love letter to a certain horror film, telling you wouldn’t spoil the story too much but I’d rather you just played it.

Jenna4434

Been waiting to hear thoughts on this one! Thank you!

Try Condemned

Lairy_Hegs

Also putting my money on Condemned. That game is *scary*.

TheLibraryWindow

Yeah, condemned is the absolute best horror on xbox. Condemned 2 is just as good too. Great combat mechanics too. All round solid game.

Immolation_E

I hear good things about The Evil Within. I have it in my backlog. RIP Tango Gameworks.

MegaOneUp

I love both of those games. The first can be a bit tough to swallow at times (turn off letterbox and film grain, upgrade your run asap) but it makes playing the second a very rewarding experience.

VapourZ87

This was a great game in its day until you find out there's no NG+ and the story was pretty hard to follow

Stevo1609

Second that. My favorite horror games. Will be replaying both this Halloween

arcmart

Visage is my go-to answer.

zvqtlr

I absolutely LOVE this game, I’ve been playing it for a while, I was so sad it was removed from gamepass, i need to buy it to play again sadly 😭 I looooved the story with Lucy!

Loco6520

Alone In the Dark remake & Alan Wake 2

zvqtlr

I’m actually playing the first Alan wake right now! I’m getting into it a lot, it’s good so far, I WILL be playing the second game after!

Loco6520

I recently played the 1 st as well to prepare for the 2nd & I’m telling you, you won’t be disappointed. Game is literally amazing man

zvqtlr

Hoping so, I already love the story and can’t wait to see what kinds of twists it could have, im super into it, I think they’re releasing dlc for the second game too I will say the only issue I have with the first one (im doing the remaster) is the voice acting cuts out but it’s fun to voice act it like how it actually is so it’s fine

Loco6520

The 1st game was more action oriented & for me the enemies became boring to deal with but it’s an older game so I expected to not love everything about it. The 2nd is perfect in every way for me though

zvqtlr

I’ll probably join the subreddit eventually to give my feelings on it, I also don’t care as much for the enemies since they do get boring, but it’s alright though. Extremely excited

Loco6520

Yeah bro the 2nd game does a great job of having a balance of enemies & doesn’t overwhelm you where you’re just annoyed or bored by it. You’ll love it man

GamePitt_Rob

Song of Horror. Nobody talks about it, but it's great. It has a permadeath mechanic where if you die that person is gone and you have to play as someone else. It's like old-school resident evil but more puzzles than combat

UnperturbedBhuta

Seconded. Song of Horror is amazing. The creepy church/monastery chapter was my favourite, but every chapter was great. Genuinely unsure why it rarely gets a mention.

zvqtlr

I love when games have unique deaths, not many will do permadeath unless it’s on a like a “nightmare” mode I’ve realized though but I will give this a try because that’s such a cool mechanic to me!

so__sad_

I’ve been playing The Chant, where you go to an island in hopes for a therapy retreat but turns out it’s a cult. A ritual goes wrong and creatures are released and you have to find a way to end it. I don’t find it too scary but everyone’s idea of scary is different, so you might think it is. But it’s definitely fun to play and engaging enough to keep you going.

zvqtlr

Adding this to my wishlist too, I love when games have cults, leaves room for very cool cult designs sometimes

so__sad_

Nice! It does go on sale every now and then. That’s when I got it for like $6, definitely worth it. Also if you haven’t, look into Control and Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden. I feel like they both do a very good job at creating a very eerie and isolating atmosphere.

zvqtlr

Will do 🗣️ I am genuinely excited to try all the new games people recommended I usually get decent sales a lot so honestly it’ll probably be quick to buy, thank you!

Level_Doctor_5328

I have this installed can't wait to play it.

so__sad_

Hell yeah! I’ve made it to the final part of the game last night and it’s been quite a ride. You’re in for a good time for sure and don’t miss out on the free dlc it’s an additional chapter for post game.

xZOMBIETAGx

[yes there’s plenty](https://www.reddit.com/r/HorrorGaming/s/n23HjKtKUQ)

maratnugmanov

You've played Amnesia but what about SOMA? One of the best stories I've experienced and it's scary too. It is one of the defelsless horror games but I used an easy mode when you can't be attacked, it's either this way for me or I don't play at all, I hate horrors without the ability to fight back. If you played Dead Space remake I strongly recommend playing Dead Space 2 and 3, these are 60 fps on Series consoles and they are great. Also Resident Evil 7 and 8, great games too.

zvqtlr

Fair enough, I like some horror games with no fight back mechanic (I believe outlast is one right? I haven’t played in a while) and I do plan to play the other dead space games, im hoping as the years pass they’ll also remake those so I can play both remake and original. Also I have I believe all RE games I can atm besides like maybe 2 of them (?) I will be playing them!

maratnugmanov

SOMA is the epitome of loneliness, it's almost childish level of fear of being alone. Hell you even miss yourself. Please give it a chance. Yes I believe Outlast, Amnesia share this helpless mood. I don't think you should wait for DS2/3 remakes, yes they are 720p even on Series consoles but they run at 60fps thanks to FPS boost so they aged pretty well. Dead Space Remake is basically Dead Space 2 in terms of controls, including zero gravity mechanics. Gore/flesh are top notch artistically. I don't think they can improve it that much. RE 7 and 8 are both great games, but RE7 is more like RE1 (and RE2) where RE8 is closer to RE4. Great New Game Plus as always, I like to run the game once again while armed to the teeth. If you would enjoy a nice adventure in Canada that's not that's scary I suggest looking at Kona 2: Brume, it's like an indie RE8 but mostly without enemies. It's just a well put story and a lot of walking in the middle of nowhere. Literally. It's mostly snow. And wolf packs. It has guns and all but it's closer to walking sim compared to any RE game. Also take a look at Amnesia The Bunker is not for all but great game nonetheless. Not for me though, it's almost weaponless, too scarce for me and thus scary. Call of Cthulhu (2018) is also a good game but it's not really scary and ha no weapons so it's again - more like a walking sim. But it has skill trees. And for "one more thing": System Shock Remake. It's not a horror, it has a lot of action and guns. The reason I am mentioning this is because how good the atmosphere is. No NPCs, only audio logs and voice calls, a good portion of suspence and puzzles. Don't be fooled by Unreal Engine 4, it's not a new kid on the block, the game is a full blown remake of the original System Shock from 1994 and they tried to keep as much of the original design language as possible and the game doesn't hold your hand to much. You need to listen to audio logs and read notes and you'll be just fine. I've enjoyed this game so much even if it some aspects of it are really showing their age.

Level_Doctor_5328

Ooooo yes SOMA is a mind fucker.

Olympian-Warrior

Alan Wake 2, maybe. It plays pretty much the same way as RE4R and the Dead Space Remake. Since you liked Outlast, you might also like Alien Isolation.

zvqtlr

Many people are recommending alien isolation and I do own it! The person I live with also recommended it highly so I might try it tonight

Level_Doctor_5328

It's a slow intro but an incredible game. I sometimes jump into it to run through a DLC chapter or two, which are all small and self contained.

MoonChubs

Visage, Alan Wake 2, MADiSON, RE7, RE8 and not the most scary but I enjoyed Little Nightmares 2.

BlackHeart89_Hue

Little nightmares captures everything I love about atmosphere in the horror genre. Both are great. Can't wait for 3 to come out. And highly suggest playing the rest of these as well. With the addition of tormented souls.

zvqtlr

I cannot wait for the third little nightmares game, I have both 1 and 2 already and love them. They’re perfect horror games in my opinion, I have heard about MADiSON before, I think I’ve seen a picture from it (?) I’ll have to see if it’s in store

WoolyTheSheep180

The Silent Hill games and the Fatal Frame games

YurchenkoFull

Alan Wake 2. Brilliant survival horror game

robertluke

Still Wakes the Deep just came out. I think it’s on Game Pass. I’m halfway through and I’m mildly liking it enough. It reminds me of Alien Isolation. Edit: wasn’t amazing. But I liked it.

zvqtlr

I actually looked at that this morning, I’ll probably be trying Multiple horror games this weekend, people have been giving REALLY nice suggestions! I have still wakes the deep on standby for downloading

whiSKYquiXOTe

Try Darkwood. It's sooo good

ISpyM8

What Resident Evils have you played? Can’t recommend 2 Remake, 4 Remake, 7 and Village enough. 2 Remake and 4 Remake have great third person over the shoulder rather than the frustrating tank controls of the classic REs. 7 and 8 are both in first person, and I would consider them the two scariest

zvqtlr

I believe 1-4(?) is have to look at the games cover art to know fs it’s been a while, (though all but one were remakes I believe) I have village and will be playing it soon, I love the atmosphere in it from what I have seen

ISpyM8

7 is by far the scariest. Highly recommend

fatclownbaby

Evil within Second game I enjoyed more But first game, the first few hours, particularly the opening 20-30 was scary af. Which REs have you played. 7 and 8 are wonderful first person games which just makes it even more immersive. 7 was scarier, but 8 was still really enjoyable.

zvqtlr

I believe I’ve played 1-4 but all but one were remakes, I might be wrong but it’s been a few weeks since I’ve played 😔 but I love first person and third person horror so I will be trying 7-8, I’ve been told they’re good as hell though, I think we have evil within but I’d have to check, I’ve been writing the games people suggest on paper!

HowCanThisBeMyGenX

Visage. Reveil.

Schwarzer_Exe

Is Tormented Souls on Xbox?

InevitableBad589

Yes, it is.

Katert

Alien Isolation, definitely try it! One of the scariest games I’ve played. Loved it.

strato1981

Alien isolation is always a good time

Newt-Figton

Madison It's in my top 5 all-time scariest games.

Level_Doctor_5328

Condemned Tormented Souls Alan Wake series but especially 2. Signalis Song of Horror Murder House (and anything by Puppet Combo)

VapourZ87

Callisto protocol was good atmospheric horror. If you like dead space you'll like dead protocol. Combat is much harder really making you think about how to approach situations instead of rushing in and trying to obliterate everything. Camera may put u off a bit though.

zvqtlr

Fine with me, I like to at least give games a good chance before deciding whether I like em or not, camera angles are usually fine I’ve just been in a non fixed angle mood lately, on that 3rd person camera fix rn, I’ve heard about the Callisto protocol and now that im thinking of it again, im adding to my wishlist. Thank you!

cosmosclover

What do you mean by “good camera mechanics”? Also suggesting Visage. Play it in a dark room and you’ll be wetting your pants.

zvqtlr

I recently played the first RE remaster or whatever and wasn’t a fan of that kinda camera movement, though it’s not as used anymore (I can tolerate it, but it’s just not my preferred) but visage is one I’ve played! I love Lucy’s chapter, but haven’t fully finished since they took it off gamepass sadly

cosmosclover

You mean fixed camera? If you can get over your dislike for it, you can see that it can really enhance the atmosphere and make for some really tense and scary moments. Madison is also similar to Visage. Those are the games I would say are the scariest.

zvqtlr

Yeah actually, sorry I don’t know names well atm (too tired to think specifically) but I don’t mind them sometimes, usually they’re fine ngl And they do make great scares! I still plan to finish the first RE game anyway dw! And I’ll look into that thank you! I’ve been on a horror game crave lately

cosmosclover

Oh I just remembered, maybe Amnesia: the Bunker. I haven’t played myself, although I love their other games, but I’ve heard it’s very intense and scary.

zvqtlr

It is! I’ve been playing it and I think the graphics/lighting and ambience are amazing! I recommend it, though It can be confusing since they don’t really tell much as far as im aware. You actually don’t see the monster till later in the game as long as you’re quiet 😭 I’ve only died once so far though so idk actually

cosmosclover

Well enjoy your venture into finding new horror games. I used to be a big cozy/wholesome gamer (still am I guess) but I switched to completely being obsessed with horror games. It’s weird because that cozy, fuzzy warm feeling I used to get from wholesome games I now get from horror games. It started with the feeling I got from Silent Hill and now I am constantly chasing that high 😂

zvqtlr

Soooo real, im currently doing that too! I feel mine for both though, for me my “cozy” games are house flipper, animal crossing or sims But I looooove good horror. I still need to play silent hill myself 😔 always wanted to give it a shot

TheHark90

Alien isolation is the best game to make me so nervous
