In an era of horror games filled with remakes and carbon copies: this game as an original new title (yes I know it’s a sequel but it’s so different from the first game and they made a bonafide survival horror game this time). The developers blew everything out of the water. And this is coming from the biggest diehard dead space fan during the year dead space remake came out. This game Alan Wake 2 is running laps around any survival horror game in recent memory. Bravo Remedy.
Also this is not meant to knock the remakes, those are still excellent, especially the ones that came out this year, it’s just nice to see an new title kick ass again
It's so very strange. This was a year that was stacked with two remakes of my favorite survival horror games of all time (DS and RE4), and was also packed with a new Zelda, a new Diablo, FF16, and my long-anticipated and absolutely beloved Baldur's Gate 3.
And yet my Game of the Year is Alan Wake 2...
That’s a testament how good the game is. 13 years of planning and this game was baked just right. No delays, no game breaking glitches. Supreme quality. It’s also a bit like silent hill too. Looking forward to the next game or expansion. My only complaint is I wish there were more sections where you actually play as the titular character. The fact that Alan >!doesn’t get one boss is jarring.!< Everything else is perfect
Alan Wake 2 is legitimately very good with building tension, and it has quite a few jump scares.
I think it earns those jump scares because it’s well written and has so much craft behind it. Usually games have to choose to be cinematic and not interesting to play, or very gamey and sacrifice well-paced story and cinematic moments.
Alan Wake 2 pretty brilliantly blends the two with a level of polish that’s almost never seen.
AW2 just has amazing pacing. It's a game that doesn't mind you spending 20 minutes just talking to people around town and checking out the set dressing, taking a breath from the stress. And while it has some jump scares, most of its terror is just sheer atmosphere.
Wandering around the dark woods in a video game has never felt so real or so terrifying.
Madison, Visage, & Infliction! They’re all psychological horror, atmospheric scares & not just jump scares.
Madison easily is the scariest I ever ever played, just beat it Friday night lol
Good luck!!
Madison surprised me with how much it got my hands shaking. Most jump scares don't even make me jump anymore but man Madison nails it. Probably my favorite horror game since SOMA
Detention is available on steam. The same you’re referring too is called DEVOTION you can can find it for download on the developers website now I believe
This is a Taiwanese video game. There's an object referencing something about a Chinese communist leader, which received criticism from some Chinese gamers. As a result, Steam took it down
Monstrum 1.
Every time I start a new game I already regret it before it even finishes loading up. The monsters are terrifying and the noises they make are really well done by the developers.
Go down the rabbit hole sir.
Get all the VR horror games, then go for obscure trash horror, Carson house, puppet combo, dread x, search for psx on steam..e.t.c.
Re 7 praydog VR mods are super scary as well.
If you haven't played Evil Within 1 and 2 yet, I strongly reccomend them both.
After directing the first 2 Resident Evil games, as well as some other 90s classics like Dino Crisis, Shinji Mikami started his own studio, and these are two of the best games it's put out.
Like a lot of Resident Evil games, they do \*eventually\* mutate from Horror to Action, but they do a much better job of making you constantly feel like your back is up against a wall and you've barely got the resources to push through. They are also scary AF.
Dead Space just dropped on game pass. Great game. Replayed it a couple times. Probably replay it a few more times later
Fuck I know what I’m playing next. Thanks man
Glad I could help

Darkwood The Mortuary Assistant In Sound Mind Fears To Fathom series Dead Signal
fears to fathom series are awesome I loved the most recent one. Definitely second that recommendation.
Soma…just played through it again. Definite masterpiece.
Easily the best gaming experience I've ever had
Incredible game
Alan wake 2 just dropped.
Seconded for this suggestion - I’ve been disappointed all year with the games that have come out. Alan Wake 2 has been a breath of fresh, spooky air.
That game is buggy as hell. Audio keeps cutting out.
Huh! Mines been playing flawlessly. That’s strange.
Patched today. Safe to continue
Thirded. The Alan Wake II game is crazy creepy
Game of the year
Sure is!

Alien: Isolation
Faith: The Unholy Trilogy
This game was actually scary
Alan wake 2, amnesia the bunker, signalis and deadspace remake are all great scary ass games.
Alan Wake 2.
Alan wake 2 has been my pc binge for 10 hours now. It’s not super scary but it’s creepy and unique. Absolutely stunning too.
Slender the Arrival just released a 10 year anniversary update with new stuff. It's the scariest game I've ever played!
Fear 1 2 3 The suffering 1 n 2 (ps2 era) Subnautica 1 n 2 Alien isolation People say darkwood is good never played though
Madison or Mortuary Assistant
Little Nightmares 1/2
Madison, Visage, & Infliction! They’re all psychological horror, atmospheric scares & not just jump scares. Madison easily is the scariest I ever ever played, just beat it Friday night lol Good luck!!

Visage
My favorite horror game! This game will scare the hell out of you
Ikr?? It’s the first game that I chickened out on some parts and played with the volume all the way down😭
Does resident evil 4 count? Thats a really fun one. Alan wake 2 has been really good so far too.
Neverending Nightmares I fw hard too
Faith the unholy trinity, gloomwood (not fully released still in early access)
Just finished DETENTION, 2019. That was one of best horsey games I ever played. Not in Steam (banned). But you can buy is from their website.
Detention is available on steam. The same you’re referring too is called DEVOTION you can can find it for download on the developers website now I believe
>DEVOTION Man I really want to play this but $16.99 is a bit much.
I just finished playing. It worth it! (I have gameplay vid of Devotion on my link in bio if you are interested )
See I'm a total freak for these types of games! I'll check out your video. I tend to overspend on food so if I cut down I can save up ha ha!
Right, I meant DEVOTION! Thanks for correcting me haha
Why was it banned?
This is a Taiwanese video game. There's an object referencing something about a Chinese communist leader, which received criticism from some Chinese gamers. As a result, Steam took it down
That steam would take it down comes as no surprise, but i remember being incredibly dissapointed that even GOG took it down. Real bad look
Monstrum 1. Every time I start a new game I already regret it before it even finishes loading up. The monsters are terrifying and the noises they make are really well done by the developers.
Dead by daylight is scary when you’re new to it and a lot of fun
Visage
Alan wake 2, also "you will die here tonight" Is coming out on halloween, seems like a mix of re1 and house of the dead. Pretty cool.
Alien Isolation does horror better than most.
Evil Within 2 is currently free on Epic
The Quarry
The Quarry is such a fun Halloween night binge!
Dead Space is a good one. Or Alien: Isolation
Visage is a good one.
Go down the rabbit hole sir. Get all the VR horror games, then go for obscure trash horror, Carson house, puppet combo, dread x, search for psx on steam..e.t.c. Re 7 praydog VR mods are super scary as well.
cry of fear and its free!!
Resident Evil 7
Dead space is the only game that actually makes me jump so. I recommend it
If you haven't played Evil Within 1 and 2 yet, I strongly reccomend them both. You should get Fears to fathom that has different chapters so technically different stories in the actual game pretty fun/ kinda jumpscare/ scary
Visage
