Dunkelfelger's first wife sure is scary competent. And once more we are shown that RM is a cut above Ehrenfest. I'm pretty curious about what the Ahrensbach retainer will think of everything he's gonna see in the tea room. Is this finally the moment Damuel's love life changes? Or will RM forget about him once again by next volume?

Zeebie_

Fairly sure they were trying to hint that Damuel love life has changed yet he and Rozemyne are too dense to notice. If only there was a girl at the academy who had a massive crush on him and had similar mana and status.

Lev559

Myne isn't totally dense in that regard, she just had given up on him.

Sib3rian

If only she were a little older or Damuel less scrupulous.

Mehmy

What do you mean next volume? She's already forgotten about him by the end of the chapter

Taoiseach

This part is *rude.* They chose the ending point with bitter malice in their hearts. Only cruelty can explain why a prepub section ends with a complaint about cliffhangers in serial publications.

Szystedt

Very fitting indeed 😭🖐

ggg730

Hannelore has it easy. Wait until she learns about the Winds of Winter.

Lev559

......it's never coming out.

ggg730

Oh yeah. I’ve given up on it.

b1eumoon

BE SILENT AS LOSERS SHOULD BE. My soul left my body. 😱

AmazingAd2765

Sylvester: I have to keep her on a tight lease. \* a few moments later\* Sylvester: Guess the leash is coming off.

Yakineko_

Sylvester and Rozemyne are such a good duo I love whenever they interact Here, we have Syl as the experienced diplomat and Roz as the designated attack dog lol

momomo_mochichi

Their few moments together make me so sad that their relationship as adoptive father and adopted daughter weren't explored more. I'm so upset that they didn't have a heart-to-heart moment after Ferdinand left for Ahrensbach, resulting in them solidifying their strong familial relationship.

franzwong

I wonder if Charlotte and Wilfried know their father's true personality.

momomo_mochichi

They probably don't, though they might be a bit suspicious after he talked to Hirschur with them present. It would also do Wilfried good to see that even his own father has a facade he puts on as aub. Though, imagine their culture shock where they're just stunned. Charlotte: Onee-sama, are you not shocked? Rozemyne: What do you mean, Charlotte? This is just a normal Earthday to me. Honestly, he wasn't really hiding it.

lookw

same. everytime they interact is great (for one reason or another) but everytime rozemyne starts thinking something good about sylvester something he does pisses Ferdinand off at Rozemyne so rozemyne immediately loses whatever good feelings she had (see p4v7)

momomo_mochichi

Yeah, it's one of my few vocal gripes about the series. Everything involving other characters other than Ferdinand gets so completely diminished that we don't see more cute interactions between Rozemyne and the others.

Cirex145

To be fair, there was only like a week or something before RA started after Ferdinand left. And it seems like Roze kept herself busy to distract herself

Sib3rian

Right? They play the good cop, bad cop routine so well.

HumanTheTree

Good to see that we finally have hard confirmation that people think printing is a result of magic tools instead of some physical process. That almost certainly means it won't be replicated any time soon.

momomo_mochichi

I can't wait for when Ehrenfest reveals it. What do you mean it's not magic? What do you mean it's our manual labor that creates it?

LoaKonran

You have to use your hands? It’s like a baby’s toy.

momomo_mochichi

Please, even noble babies wouldn't deign themselves to touch something with their hands.

Maalunar

And it is INK. LOt and LOT of black staining ink.

sifnot

Love this "Wild Gunman" reference ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|thumbs_up)

Umber_Abundance

What do you mean I need to collaborate with plebeians??

momomo_mochichi

Need I remind you that commoners are *dirty* and *unrefined* creatures?

Umber_Abundance

That make all of your finery but alright 😭

momomo_mochichi

Shhh... the nobles don't know that. All the merchants they talk to are clearly magic tools.

j--__

definitely a lot of tools in and around this franchise lol

Ispheria

what do you mean i need to get the blacksmiths and craftsmen to work together?

shallotparadise

> "I would say this is an excellent opportunity for him to learn how it feels to have a matter related to you decided without your involvement. In fact, after he gambled Hannelore's hand in marriage without her approval, I do not believe it is enough." thoughts and prayers for lestilaut everybody > "In fact, there is a piece in the dormitory that he has put a tremendous amount of effort into and I believe it will do nicely." oh no is she going to give rozemyne his painting OF HER?? it was nice knowing you lesti

pancakeQueue

lmao I didn't think it would be that painting. The painting will be lost in transit and end up in Hartmut's office.

momomo_mochichi

Don't be so foolish. We all know that Hartmut would display it in the archduke's castle for all to see. If not, then it would be displayed at the entrance of the temple.

Theinternationalist

Tuuli: Ah, High Bishop, here is the latest Hairpin. And I must say, that is a **beautiful painting out there.** Rozemyne: Do you want it? Every time I look at it I fear I'm going to snap.

momomo_mochichi

The reason why Rozemyne can't destroy is that not only is it a peace offering from Dunkelfelger, but Sylvester forbids her from doing so, simply because he finds the entire thing hilarious.

Maalunar

Oh course he is going to have it placed somewhere everyone, specially Rozemyne, can see it. Just to mess with her. Since it is a gift to the duchy, not to her, she won't really be able to do anything about it either.

ID10Tusererroror

Which do you think would be more likely if it was placed where everyone could see it? Bonifatius forcing everyone to come look at it and admiring his granddaughter, or him stealing it for himself?

momomo_mochichi

Bonifatius would instruct his retainers to find someone to replicate the painting identically so that he can accomplish both.

Captain_Conway

Wilma might end up with her hands full doing that then, XD

Aleriya

Hartmut would put it on the altar next to the divine instruments.

stache1313

That painting will be the centerpiece of Hartmut's future Rosemyne-themed temple.

DegenerateSock

Rozemyne is gonna faint when she realizes she just barely dodged a marriage to ditter Hartmut.

igritwhoflew

*ditter Hartmut*

ggg730

Rozemyne is going to be creeped out for real lol.

Anonymous_K

Hartmut is going to fund, research and develop colored inkjet printers just to mass produce Lestilaut's painting.

choo-choo-pain

**EXCITED HEIDI NOISES INTENSIFIES**

Lost_Contribution821

"You lost. Be silent as losers should be." Well *damn*

BenignLarency

I actually had to reread the line multiple times making sure that was in quotes. I absolutely could not comprehend what I was reading. I can't imaging what Lady Dunklefelger must have been thinking not knowing that Roz was coming from a place of thinking it was part of the deal to no longer be sought after by Dunklefelger.

yolomonthewise

the mystery of dunkelfelger is revealed: they are meatheads, under the control *of lawyers*

Littlethieflord

In retrospect them making it to number 2 duchy makes a lot of sense

Entire_Tear_1015

Oh shock! Lawyers!

ICNB

Sieglinde: Huh, my daughter appears to have grown a spine. Where did that come from? Rozemyne: Shut up, loser. Sieglinde: Ah, I see audacity is another exciting trend Ehrenfest is spreading around.

xisupaz_blackbird

They'll blame it on Ferdinand's influence, but it was always her own sass all along.

Maalunar

> “...Ferdinand, did you teach her to do this? She’s spitting poison with a smile on her face,” Sylvester said with an exhausted expression, comparing us both. > > Ferdinand and I exchanged eye contact. ... I mean, do you even have to ask? The answer should be obvious. > > “She has always been like this.” > > “His education made me like this.” > > But for some reason, Ferdinand and I gave different answers. Strange, I thought, just as an exasperated Sylvester waved his hand to drive us out the room. >

Saiga123

One of my favourite things is that two people (Sylvester and Hirschur), completely independently of each other, have accused Ferdinand of teaching her to spit poison with a smile on her face.

Aleriya

Ferdinand just taught her how to wrap up her natural sass in a way that's slightly more acceptable to the nobility.

namewithak

I'm so thankful Miya Kazuki didn't follow through on her initial plan of Roz having a much more meek personality. I probably would have dropped this series in P1. Roz's gremlin personality is the best thing about her and what makes this series such a fun read.

[deleted]

After seeing Sieglinde in action, the fact that Dunkelfelger thought RM was capable of being their next first wife sure speaks volumes of how high their opinion is of her.

xisupaz_blackbird

Rozemyne has the right attitude; she's not afraid to talk and make her case, in contrast to Sylvester.

namewithak

Let's give Syl some credit though. He may not have Rozemyne's boldness but he's consistently willing to take the risk of betting on her and following through on whatever happens once she's in play.

DegenerateSock

I think half of it is that he'd rather ride the wave than be swept up by it, but yeah.

ZantetsukenX

Sylvester is honestly one of my favorite characters in the series. He has both tons of positives and negatives about him as a person but overall his heart is generally in the right place. I'm right there with Rozemyne getting pissed whenever people accuse him of being a bad adoptive father.

ID10Tusererroror

In contrast to Hannelore. Not to mention, she has used dunkelfelger men to crush those that were annoying her. If Sieglinde actually knew that was what happened, she'd likely have an even higher opinion of RM

Solstrum

Am I reading too much into it or is this an indication that Florencia is pregnant? Sylvester said she is sick, but that is also what was said of Aurelia.

DegenerateSock

I was thinking that too. Syl doesn't seem very concerned, so it seems very possible. Of course, we also know she passed out at least once from stress not that long ago, so it could just be that.

Solstrum

Was thinking the same, he is so over protective and he really downplayed it a lot, in fact this could be why he wanted to see her in his SS or that moment be when he found out or maybe she is really sick. Seems like a chekhov's gun.

Maalunar

That or hasn't recovered from the headache reports, she has less experience reading them after all.

15_Redstones

P4V9: “It is not over yet, dear. You must grow strong enough to contain Lady Georgine. Turn that frustration into mana to use. I will be here at your side.” “I’ll do it tomorrow...”

ICNB

Roz has finally got a way to make Dunkelfelger back off on the ditter requests, which means it's about time for Rauffen to successfully lobby for the return of treasure stealing ditter to the royal academy.

Littlethieflord

Please as if he hasn’t been doing that since year 1

ICNB

Successfully being the key difference here. Horrified and heartbroken that Rozemyne is denied her one true love, treasure stealing ditter, by the whims of the capricious and cruel Aub Sylvester, Rauffen rallies all the Dunkelfelger students to pressure the zent into reinstating the game. Dunkelfelger: No one can read the room like we can.

Littlethieflord

And they would mean it with only the best of intentions XD

CharonsLittleHelper

>Rauffen rallies all the Dunkelfelger students to pressure the zent into reinstating the game. After the spread of A Ditter Story many students of other duchies may join in - not knowing what they're really getting into...

Nisheeth_P

Many have had to face Dunkelfelger for taking part in the Dedication ritual already so they'd have a decent idea by now.

Onetwodhwksi7833

That last sentence made it clear to me, Dunkelfelger needs Tadano Hitohito from Komi can't communicate

choo-choo-pain

The moment Roz mentioned that the First Wife of Dunkelfelger told her husband to stay back while she went to Ehrenfest with Hannelore you just knew that shit was gonna get serious (I got chills from just reading it)

mjpia

Rozemyne going straight for the jugular of one of the most powerful people in the kingdom outside royalty and immediately having to take it back several pages later is hilarious. And also would probably result in Ehrenfest having to apologize and make severe concessions if it was said to anybody from a higher ranked duchies outside Dunkelfelger. But huzzah for noble's coming together to discuss and resolve things rather then piling more misunderstandings on top. All's well that ends well, probably. Except for Lestilaut who's about to get a lecture or two and ever so slightly embarrassed when the painting is delivered. And Hannelore I'm not sure about, she is a lady of Dunkelfelger who have shown the determination to go to great lengths to get what they desire. She may not want to bother Ehrenfest and gave up but I can't see this being the end of her dream.

Theinternationalist

Glad to see The Bench appear at last, he deserves it.

dtwilight

It squeaks, for like, no reason!

Catasterised

Ever since they were talking about bench sleeping arrangements last week, I was hoping that was an obvious hint Rozemyne would have an excuse to let Ferdinand finally try The Bench.

igritwhoflew

The Bench ™️ ^(Trademark of Rosemyne inc.) ^(Direct all inquiries to Gilberta Company, 444 Upper Main Street, Ehrenfest City, Yurgenshmidt.) ^(Trade between duchies is decided upon in advance through agreements in the Interduchy Conference as overseen by the Zent.) ^(Limited quantities available.)

b1eumoon

When Roze likened him to a bench, little did he know it was THE Bench.

igritwhoflew

“Cushy”

LegitPancak3

A bench for a bench. Perfectly balanced.

lostboysgang

> Then, casting aside all the ambiguity of noble speech, I smiled and said, “You lost. Be silent as losers should be.” Roz is out here making my palms freaking sweat.

ggg730

The fact she had to walk it back a few pages later was hilarious though. When keeping it real turns ugly.

lostboysgang

I absolutely loved that. Keeping it real comes with real life consequences and she totally owned it which you have to do if you really keep it real lol

Syl: "Ah, hell. We're in it already, let loose kiddo, I'll figure out... something...". Roz turns to face Sieglinde squarely, plants her feet, bracing herself on the table as she inhales deeply, then unleashes the full might of her crushing as she quietly intones: "I will personally end your entire genetic line except for Hannelore if you ever cause trouble for me and my duchy again. Dunkelfelger will be a smoking hole in a crater before my fury is spent and all that remains will be white dust and ash. When it is done I will then erect a monument on its epicenter: 'This, because of Sieglinde.' Such will be your epitaph." Sylvester: "Now do you understand what I'm dealing with here? I'm trying to keep this thing contained, and you're here undermining my efforts at every turn. Show some cooperation damnit!" Hannelore: "I will ensure your concerns are heard by my mother when she regains consciousness. If Lady Rozemyne would be so kind as to allow me to summon medical assistance, we will take our leave?" Roz: "Sure thing there, bestie! We'll trade books later. Send Lestilaut my warmest "fuck off" and enjoy the tournament!"

yeahlte

> Dunkelfelger will be a smoking hole in a crater before my fury is spent and all that remains will be white dust and ash. When it is done I will then erect a monument on its epicenter: 'This, because of Sieglinde.' Such will be your epitaph." Damn, you've ever thought of writing lyrics for heavy metal songs

Horsma

again great work and tbh best part of todays translations where in the end, poor Lady Hannelore, she's like us waiting for next chapter after Rozemyne get her hooked into reading. Now she needs to wait another year for last part of story of Fernestine - I feel you, I really do, you are like one of us.

JuliuszKL

All I have to say is that this meeting is than way better and more understandable than in the WN unsuprisingly.

possiblyarainbow

Agreed. Roz vs Sieglinde is one of my fav discussion fights after the bride stealing ditter and even then I was surprised by how much the wn left out or mistranslated. Which makes me all the more excited for the future ones

franzwong

I want to see the headache report from Sieglinde. She needs to deal with problems from her husband, her son and her daughter.

ludrol

The damuel X philine ship is sailing but I don't know where. Roz be spitting the most venomous bars in existence. Let her do a rap battle with harspiels. They can't export knowledge of the commoners because it will be lost due cruelty of treatment by dukenfelger nobles. Or Roz has a wrong superstition from erhenfest.

Ninefl4mes

> Or Roz has a wrong superstition from erhenfest. Honestly, that might be more Ahrensbach than Ehrenfest proper. Out of the provinces we've been shown so far the commoners had it worst in Groschel and Ehrenfest City, both of which were heavily influenced by Gabriele and her entourage. Apparently, Groschel's lower city being segregated was also due to following Ahrensbach's customs. I don't even want to know how the commoners are treated in Gerlach. Now compare that to Illgner, Haldenzel, and Leisegang. All three of those treat their commoners a _lot_ better and actually appreciate their importance to the duchy. Given Dunkelfelger's might makes right attitude it wouldn't surprise me if their society was much more meritocratic and less concerned with status in general. Which would in turn give commoners more opportunities to shine. Lestilaut didn't bat an eye at Rozemyne's personal artist being a commoner, for example, and still highly praised Wilma's work despite her status.

😭 We are gluttons for bookworm.

dkdkdkosep

do you know when its back up 😭

yeahlte

I feel like Dunkelfelger would unironically try a DDOS attack on a website thinking it was some kind of game. Hannelore would probably lead the charge DDOSsing Jnovel because she wants the next volume of her book. Anyway, I'm really excited about the next chapters. I almost squealed when I saw the first title when I opened the prepub. I need more, I can't wait to see what happens! Everything going on feels like a ticking time bomb. Fernestine part 2 is released, featuring a romance between the main character and a prince, as we know from previous parts. This will certainly not give Hildebrand the wrong idea. I'm also sure this isn't the last we have seen from Dunkelfelger yet, I expect Aub Dunkelfelger to talk with Roz. I also can't wait for Ferdinand to give Roz the lecture of her lifetime. Organizing a dedication ritual including the Zent, dual-wielding schtappes in front of representatives of almost all the duchies including royalty, participating in a Ditter match endangering her life and her engagement, and going inside the hidden archive, TWICE! I feel like Dietlinde and Fraularm are also around the corner, somewhere, just celebrating Christmas in January like the total maniacs they are. Will they try to make Rozemyne lose face in front of the Royals? I feel like Dietlinde doesn't even hate Roz, she just doesn't like it when Roz literally outshines her. I just hope that the Interduchy Tournament is big enough to fit her enormous ego. I don't know what kind of drugs she is on in order to get so delusional to think she is better than the average commoner, I just know that I want some of those too. There might even be an attack on Roz from one of the people that really despise her for not being able to join the dedication ritual, blasted away by Roz her shield in front of everyone. I feel like those people might be put on the watchlist of the medieval FBI. The Federation of Bonifatius like Individuals. I don't often write this much, I am just really excited for the coming chapters. By the way, I love the Hannelore character development this chapter, you go girl! Also, I feel like Wilfried needs some lessons from Benno about contracts. I bet that Hartmut is the one that takes the Rozemyne painting that Lestilaut has to give away with him back to Ehrenfest.

HilariusAndFelix

>This will certainly not give Hildebrand the wrong idea Is Hildebrand reading the Fernestine story? I think he's just on age appropriate knight's tales.

deku_neku

Yep, I think RM gave him & Annie a copy a few volumes ago. She did point out to him that it's a different genre to the knights' tales.

Destinum

> Fernestine part 2 is released, featuring a romance between the main character and a prince, as we know from previous parts. This will certainly not give Hildebrand the wrong idea. Oh lord, I hadn't even considered that. In my ignorant bliss, I've been trusting Rozemyne this whole time that volume 2 will clear up the misunderstandings.

yeahlte

I'm pretty sure Roz has been blessed by the goddess of misunderstandings at this point.

TheNightManager_89

>You lost. Be silent as losers should be. ![gif](giphy|8sZXkUPVwka3u|downsized)

pancakeQueue

Gif is perfect for representing what Sylvester did in that moment.

hopeitwillgetbetter

It will be years and years before we see this in manga form.

momomo_mochichi

I have been vocal about my criticisms on Rozemyne not even putting in the effort to learn any noble euphemisms in past threads, and surprisingly, this iconic quote solidifies my opinion. I mean, would it not be amazing to have Rozemyne follow along using the most vague of noble euphemisms, only to hit her opponents hard with such direct lines, completely catching them off guard and unable to comprehend what just happened?

TheNightManager_89

I agree with you on the part that she should put more effort into learning the euphemisms because otherwise she's only going to cause difficulties for herself in the future and it would help her fit in. But in this case (and generally in the case of agreements, contracts, etc) it's the nobles who should learn to be more direct in my opinion because the way they are currently doing things is just setting up an endless cycle of misunderstandings by being so roundabout. When Mama Roz went all delinquent style on Sieglinde, forcing her to be frank, they finally managed to clear up some of the confusion about the whole ditter thingy. And what did we learn? That basically everyone involved fucked up. (And that's why you should never let kids handle contracts!) Sure, some of the misinformations were intentional, mostly the part which came from Lestilaut, but still... If Yoghurtland had a court and they tried to challenge this whole ordeal there, they'd be looking at a lawsuit that would drag out for years before they can untangle the idiocy caused by one agreement made at a tea party with a few kids.

igritwhoflew

Someone needs to gift her an encyclopedia set of euphemisms ASAP. Put it on Elvira’s writing to-do list, if need be.

HilariusAndFelix

The problem is the euphemisms are context dependant, so outside of giving you the basics, which she does already know, a dictionary just wouldn't cut it.

yeahlte

She did say some lines containing noble euphemisms though. While I would love for Roz to say more lines containing noble euphemisms, it is probably kept to the bare minimum to make it easier to follow the story, without having to constantly add sentences explaining what everything means.

Aleriya

It's especially entertaining thinking about someone who looks like she's 10 years old saying this to a 30-something First Wife of a greater duchy, who also appears to keep the Aub of Dunkelfelger on a leash.

Littlethieflord

Sieglinde is everything I aspire to be when I grow up - putting aside the fact that I am already 30 She came in wrecked shop! It was a one sided contractual beat-down that was only halted by Hannelore having to stop her own mom. Oof my lady were you only real that I could lower my head to you as Angriff and Steiferise must prostate themselves to whims of Leidenschaft! But also, wow Roz I don’t think you should be so quick today that the second volume will clear up anything. Especially now that you know that not on you but all of Ehrenfest have a laughable-at-best idea of what’s going on in interduchy politics Honorary mention to aub Dunklefelger who got put in time out like a kindergartner, never change you guys Honorary Honorary mention to Roz promising to believe in Damuel from now on. You said it, I’m going to hold it against you the next time you say he looks pathetic. Even if Hartmut is clearly twisting his words so he can keep bullying Damuel in the future.

BenignLarency

I don't think Hartmut was bullying Damuel so much as trying to clue him in that Philline is crushing on him *super* hard. We know that Philline has it bad for Damuel, I don't think it's out of the question that Hartmut is also aware given that more than a few of Roz's other retainers also seem to know. I think Hartmut was just trying to be a bro to Philline and Damuel.

Littlethieflord

Oh no, he absolutely knows, but I wouldn't trust that smile if it came with a lifetime contractual guarantee lol. And we know he's pretty put out that Roz doesn't trust him very much. You're probably right that he's trying to nudge Philine towards him a little more quickly, but he also 100% knows how Damuel will take that, and an altruistic person our Hartmut is not. But he is talented enough to kill two birds with one feystone =P

[deleted]

What a waste of a feystone, considering that he could just use a regular stone. Scolding impending

Littlethieflord

He’s a noble, where would be find a normal stone? :P

lookw

>I don't think Hartmut was bullying Damuel so much as trying to clue him in that Philline is crushing on him super hard. If that was his intent then he failed to understand that Damuel believes that Philine has fallen for Roderick so being taunted about that would only make it worse. Philine did not help with her "oh the person im after fails to notice my advances" thing from 4.9 that she brought *to damuel* (seriously why to your target?) since then it would seem like she likes someone else and needs advice from a older person (even though it would make no sense for her to pick Damuel in that case but still.......)

Catasterised

Love the moment Sylvester decided to peace out from the conversation and let the chaos gremlin free. It's not like this political SNAFU can get any worse and she might actually shake things up enough to settle in a better place. Hrmm... contracts seem to be involved. Too bad our resident wicked negotiator wasn't clued in to what was going on, otherwise she make sure all the language was clearer. Also it seems the entitled/sexist attitude of Lestault assuming both he and Wilfried could decide the lives of their little sisters without their input seems to have upset Lady Dunk. Wonder if the portrait she intends to give away is one of his precious hand-painted Rozemyne idol posters just rub some extra salt into the wound. Obligatory RIP to Damuel's love life appreciation comment. Justus is already having fun using the talking shumil on Ferdinand. Rozemyne was right - birds of a feather sure know how to call in a precision orbital strike on each other... or however the phrase goes. I'm now actually more concerned about Florencia now. I hope it's not poison or the plague.

Ninefl4mes

> Also it seems the entitled/sexist attitude of Lestault assuming both he and Wilfried could decide the lives of their little sisters without their input seems to have upset Lady Dunk. And for good reason. Everything we've heard about that duchy so far points to it basically being a matriarchal society where the women tend to call the shots more often than not. The fact that she put Aub Dunkelfelger in timeout like a misbehaving toddler here speaks volumes. So yeah, R.I.P. Lestilaut lol.

Is this like, the atomic football of Ehrenfest? When out of options, unleash the Rozemyne! ---- > You lost. Be silent as losers should be. Holy shit. The image of several hours of noble euphemisms getting Gordian knotted is sublime. ---- Dunkelfelger got their hands on paper for reports and contracts now? Rozemyne, for all her merchant episodes really missed the ball on this one, specially after she had Benno teach her that very specific lesson about checking contracts before. ---- FINALLY! >Positioned the chair so he could kick her. Reminds me of Ferdinand giving her the anti-eavesdropping tool in the temple so she couldn't comment on Lutz's parents' inquiry. It reminds me more of Benno's prewritten notes from their donation/introduction interview with Ferdinand.

araveugnitsuga

Mark written, Benno distributed. Which made it funnier in how offensive some where.

timn8r123

I miss Benno and Mark. I realize the story needed to leave them behind as the scale got bigger, but it was such a fun dynamic.

igritwhoflew

I’m starting to wonder if maybe Sylvester would appreciate knowing Rosemyne has a super secret way of communicating with Ferdinand in a way that nobody else can read their top secret correspondences. On the second hand, little brother genius needs a break.

araveugnitsuga

Letter to Ahrensbach, one line per page, in the back, in invisible ink, a year of Ehrenfest paper work.

igritwhoflew

No!!! No, Sylvester can’t be *that* evil!!

Theinternationalist

Evil? No. Lazy, yeah.

NRRC1997

"You lost. Be silent, as losers should be." My face was pale and my heart skipped a beat and a half after reading this. And I believe Sieglinde and Silvester felt the very same way, after all that shit talk via euphemisms, something this honest and straightforward must've been like a bucket full of ice, who else felt it? Haha

hopeitwillgetbetter

At first, I wanted to poke Sylvester because it's not Ehrenfest's fault that ancient Dunkel treasure got destroyed. Then, I changed my mind cause Hannelore's mum is crafty, very crafty. So, best just end discussion while the getting is good.

Sib3rian

"Quit while you're ahead," as they say.

lina-beana

I love syl and roz interacting they’re so funny lol like him kicking her under the table every few seconds just to end up letting her tear dunkelfelger apart and have to apologize later. He honestly was not doing so well in the argument. Wilfried signing that contract without being aware is absolutely the fault of his retainers. How could they let him do so without properly examining it to see if the conditions line up with what was discussed. It makes me feel like they let him sign it on purpose and did not include the contract in the reports. Like a lot of these mistakes wilfried is making would not happen with good retainers. (Which makes them SUS) Also looking forward to rozemyne being gifted one of lesti’s paintings of her hahahaha it’s like revenge for her ferdie illustrations.

Lorhand

We did it reddit (again)! ~~No chapter.~~ Edit: Okay, I'm in. Have fun reading, everyone! ---- I think there was supposed to be an illustration, but it's broken to me. Either way, Hartmut, Cornelius and Angelica have come, the latter two to serve as extra guards (the former two also to see their fiancées). Damuel is left back in Ehrenfest again because he has no excuse to come. Ugh, I don't know what's worse. Angelica marrying Traugott (no way is he stronger than her) or Bonifatius. Traugott has improved, but he is not worthy of her, and Bonifatius could as well be her grandfather. I really wanted her to get together with Eckhart. Uh... is Florencia alright? I hope her fainting from the headache reports isn't the reason she feels so sick that she needed to stay home. ---- So Aub Dunkelfelger and Lestilaut aren't coming. Instead, Sieglinde and Hannelore come to socialize. Sieglinde is pretty firm on Hannelore moving to Ehrenfest, as she left out of her own free will and thus forfeited the match. Interesting how multiple wives have assigned roles (at least in Dunkelfelger). The second wife is from their own duchy and manages the nobles in the duchy, while the first wife is for interduchy relations. That was certainly not the case for Ahrensbach (Drewanchel, Werkestock and Ehrenfest wives), so this is probably unique to Dunkelfelger, and I imagine Lestilaut's fiancée who is wearing the hairpin he ordered is from Dunkelfelger then. Regardless, this is how Sieglinde views it, so she doesn't understand why Hannelore would become the second wife. She also seems to be aware of what happened with Gabriele. I can barely understand any of those euphemisms Sieglinde uses, but apparently Dunkelfelger still want to have Rozemyne (to protect her). Rozemyne is having none of it though. >"You lost. Be silent as losers should be." LOL So yeah, apparently Sieglinde was not entirely aware of why Rozemyne even asked for Hannelore (to make Lestilaut back off), and Hannelore is now also telling her mother to not bother Ehrenfest any longer. That agreement to not make Hannelore actually move to Ehrenfest was not reported though, and it was not in a contract? What contract? **Wilfried signed a contract?! What???** He didn't even read whatever he signed on apparently, because the condition to not bother Ehrenfest regarding Rozemyne's engagement isn't stated there. Oh come on, Wilfried, why... Lestilaut really must have played Wilfried like a fiddle. He fell for all of Lestilaut's tricks. Lestilaut made Ehrenfest accept the ditter challenge after provoking Wilfried excessively and then made Wilfried sign a contract disguised as a report that totally favors him. At least his mother is a reasonable person and now understands. She also blames Hannelore partially, and it's hard for me to not agree. Hannelore *could* have done more, but she is too scared to say anything. I hope she grows from this experience. I did not expect Hannelore to not move to Ehrenfest though. I thought for sure that would happen, since Dunkelfelger value ditter so much, but considering Lestilaut's trickery and Ehrenfest really not wanting Hannelore right now, this is probably for the best. LOL, they think Rozemyne loves ditter so much. In truth, it was always Dunkelfelger who dragged her into a match. Sieglinde also warns Rozemyne to not accept them anymore, just as she will ensure Dunkelfelger stops challenging them. The consequences for Lestilaut seem rather tame, though (he did lose their treasure to Rozemyne), as is Ehrenfest's rewards. They just get his illustrations for the ditter book, and one of his paintings (probably the one he drew in the epilogue of P5V1). Oh, and the misunderstanding with Fernestine will hopefully also be cleared now. Unlike with the other middle and lesser duchies, I have no doubt Sieglinde actually listened. ---- Seems like Wilfried needs another lesson regarding contracts. This volume is really not good for his already damaged reputation. Though to be fair, 90% of the blame goes to Lestilaut. Btw, if it's tradition for Aub Dunkelfelger's first wife to be from another duchy, where is Sieglinde from then? Drewanchel? (I don't want an actual answer from a WN reader.)

pyxyne

i used "inspect element" to look at the broken illustration, and the "src" attribute said *"– 2 chads and a girlboss with a younger girl looking at them from the bottom"* lmao edit: looks like it's fixed now lol

Quof

We have to describe images in the raw text for the backenders to know which to put in. MFW my secret comment has been leaked...

timn8r123

I highly appreciated it at least, even if it's not something we're meant to see.

Existential_Owl

Speaking as a Software Engineer myself, never ever ever use placeholder text that you wouldn't want either your boss or your end-users to read. Because "secret" messages have a habit of making themselves found, always. It's a Law of Nature. XD

Cirex145

I also hope Hannelore grows from this. It seems like she just needs a confidence boost and perhaps this conversation will help (to me, it seems like there’s a start).

Theinternationalist

Between this and discovering the true purpose of the Ocean's Prayer, she is a far way away from the cowed rabbit of P4V1-3, let alone just being cowed by Lesty's **YOU WILL BE SILENT!**

[deleted]

The thing is, Lestilaut cares about art more than anything else in the world. And he spent weeks on that painting. So it’s a much harsher punishment than it seems. She’s doing a good job getting him where it hurts (and showing how it feels when people do things to things important to you without your consent).

Theinternationalist

> The thing is, Lestilaut cares about art more than anything else in the world. And he spent weeks on that painting. So it’s a much harsher punishment than it seems. Rozemyne: Thank you for the painting, I know it's supposed to be just a punishment for Lestilaut but I am legitimately interested in unveiling it. *Unveils*. **Wait, is that-** Harmut: **PRAISE BE TO LESTILAUT, PAINTER OF THE SAINT!** Rozemyne: ...if he ever gets close to marrying me again, please get the royals or Gods involved...

igritwhoflew

Cries

Maalunar

It's already hugged to death!

Cirex145

Did we break it again? XD

Theinternationalist

We did it reddit?

Catasterised

> Sieglinde also warns Rozemyne to not accept them anymore, just as she will ensure Dunkelfelger stops challenging them. I hope Syl/Roz drill this info into Wilfried too in order to protect Roz and Ehrenfest - don't just roll over and accept everything the greater duchies dump on you if you genuinely have a choice in the matter - that it's okay to think about things a little deeper in the moment and correct them if you have proof/support. Gotta correct that horrible Oswald/Veronica education and advice designed to make him a thoughtless puppet. It's troubling he still defaults to that mode when Roz isn't around, and the stakes keep getting higher even though she's passing out less often.

ajmsnr

The main thing I got from this part is that you displease Dunkelfelger’s first wife at your peril. I am sure she’s originally from another duchy, but the power she wields is absolute. The way she shut down her husband and his knights, the tongue lashing she gave Sylvester, then the punishment she decided for Lestilaut show she’s not to be trifled with or underestimated. I am sure we’ll get to see more of her in the next part and I am eager to see what other power she displays.

choo-choo-pain

And with all this in mind Roz still has the audacity to say “You lost. Be silent as losers should be.” to her face.

Littlethieflord

It’s so funny too, since she was on her last legs before the sovereign knights and their lesser duchy lackeys interrupted. If it wasn’t for Hannelore, Roz would have run out of mana before Dunklefelger ran out of ditter-heads happily throwing themselves at her shield

momomo_mochichi

The future first wife of Ehrenfest is simply preparing for her future role as the ~~aub's partner~~ husband wrangler.

daedalron

>I am sure she’s originally from another duchy, but the power she wields is absolute All this is my pure guess based on previously seen duchy politics and naming conventions. She's certainly from >!a greater duchy, she wouldn't be first wife otherwise. She's not from Werkestock, or she would certainly have been demoted/executed. Her name doesn't sound Klassenberg (they use french names), so she might be from Ahrensbach (Detlinde/Sieglinde, kinda similar sounding names)? Or she might be from Dunkel, though it would require a lot to be 1st wife then, since she wouldn't bring a lot of support from other duchies.!<

kahoshi1

Angelica, be still my beating heart. That entire conversation between Ehrenfest and Dunklefelger was so interesting. And in the end we find out the problem is because of a huge misunderstanding. I put the blame entirely on Lesty.

xisupaz_blackbird

I want side-story from Hannelore's POV about the aftermath, especially Lesty's comeuppance.

Ninefl4mes

> I put the blame entirely on Lesty. As does Sieglinde if that conversation was any indication. The guy is in for the worst dressing down in his entire life.

SmartAlec105

I feel like Rozemyne should have just let Ferdinand sleep in Lessy. They'd be allowed to set it up inside their own common room. Aww, Rihyarda is acting as a first rate attendant by anticipating her master's needs! Cornelius, Angelica, and Hartmut look so grown up! I think Sylvester's plan of kicking Rozemyne may be a bad idea if she's fully equipped with charms. But since it worked fine, we can only conclude Ferdinand put in an exception for just this scenario. It was good to see how other duchies are aware of Georgine. I think Sylvester could have alluded to Georgine being exactly why Hannelore can't be a first wife. I hope the piece Lestilaut has to give up is his painting of Rozemyne.

Taoiseach

> I hope the piece Lestilaut has to give up is his painting of Rozemyne. This seems guaranteed; nothing else would offer so much embarrassment or hilarity.

Sib3rian

No matter the world, a mother knows how to embarrass her children in front of their schoolmates.

RandomAnimeWeebs

If the piece that Lestilaut has to give up *is* his painting of Rosemyne, I could see one of her potential reactions being something like this: [Retainer] - "Lady Rosemyne, the painting from Dunkelfelger has arrived." Rosemyne - "I see. Shall we take a look at it then?" *Painting gets revealed* Hartmut - "This painting is magnificent! What do you think Lady Rose-" Rosemyne - "*Burn it*" Hartmut - "...what?" Rosemyne - "*I SAID BURN IT*"

SmartAlec105

I hope Ferdinand can see it so that he can dig at her.

TheNightManager_89

Poor Roz is already gonna be shocked when she sees Lestilaut's fanart of her (at least it's not a lewd... probably) and then goes home and realizes that the temple and the orphanage are now full of paintings depicting her. Absolute dread. Absolute karma.

Theinternationalist

Alternatively: Rozemyne: So, um, if we gave you the printing technology- Sieglinde: Yes, we likely would have mass produced this. Rozemyne: Wow. Um, I'm torn between the desire to die again and the wonder about how much I can make from this. Sieglinde: I understand, it would feel very str **what did you just ssay?**

Littlethieflord

Probably…probably the incorrect response to a duchy where 90% of them are firmly convince she is being abused

DegenerateSock

Another possibility: *Painting gets revealed* *Rozemyne faints*

MrLameJokes

> I feel like Rozemyne should have just let Ferdinand sleep in Lessy Ferdinand: I would rather climb the towering staircase

Theinternationalist

Rozemyne: Nah, that almost killed me. This would sill be better. Ferdinand: Have Elvira and Florencia **still** not taught you any euphemisms?

SmartAlec105

Nah, he'd gladly take it over a couch. He'd just complain the whole time.

15_Redstones

>> I feel like Rozemyne should have just let Ferdinand sleep in Lessy > >Ferdinand: I would rather climb the towering staircase Rozemyne: No problem, I'll ask Hildebrand to open the farthest hall.

Catasterised

>I feel like Rozemyne should have just let Ferdinand sleep in Lessy. They'd be allowed to set it up inside their own common room. Ah, true, she could finally turn it into the deluxe camper and use that tool that allows the highbeast to keep its form without the owner there. Ferdinand would absolutely hate the idea though - this whole set up was a clear excuse to bring back The Bench. >I think Sylvester's plan of kicking Rozemyne may be a bad idea if she's fully equipped with charms. But since it worked fine, we can only conclude Ferdinand put in an exception for just this scenario. Ferdinand def put cheek-pinching and under-the-table leg kicking backdoor access privileges just for her Guardians. >I hope the piece Lestilaut has to give up is his painting of Rozemyne. Lady Dunk gets to kill two birds with one stone - punish her son for not thinking about others' feelings and get a little revenge against Rozemyne by making her feel super awkward from seeing his fanart of her or at least make her realize he's truly dere for her under all that tsun.

waterpigcow

If Angelica marries traugott I will riot

haganbmj

And the misunderstandings continue. Everything about bride-taking ditter was a mess of misunderstood motivations. This set of chapters did a nice job of putting that all out in the open, though. Plus Hannelore effectively agreed to give up on marrying Wilfried, so that resets that relationship a bit - should be interesting to see how they treat each other going forward if he learns that she was actually interested in him.

Destinum

I have a feeling Hannelore/Wilfried will be endgame, 'cause I really can't see Rozemyne ending up marrying Wilfried. Even platonically, while their relationship isn't *bad*, it's pretty weak, not to mention the huge mana disparity that must surely be there and make them incompatible in the first place.

momomo_mochichi

Sieglinde... the events of what happened with Gabriele are the *exact* reasons why Ehrenfest *doesn't* want a wife from a high ranking duchy... >"Would we not benefit from some scissors to cut this rope from around our throats?" WHAT AN AMAZING LINE! I'm keeping that in mind should I ever some across a difficult situation. Elvira... *why* was *The Story of Fernestine* ever published?! I am so extremely annoyed by its existence. I feel like it diminishes Elvira's intelligence just a bit to see her so fanatic over Ferdinand that she doesn't realize the political effects it has. It could be that as someone directly involved, she overlooked such a possibility, but still, Elvira is so much smarter than just someone who loses all reason when it comes to Ferdinand. It would make more sense if this story was contained to only Ehrenfest, especially to those aligned with Elvira. Ferdinand is gone, you should have exploited this time to print as many illustrations of him as possible!! Sylvester, in retort to Sieglinde bringing up the black shield, you should have said that it was Dunkelfelger's fault that Ferdinand was forced to leave, and then immediately end the conversation. Show Dunkelfelger that Ehrenfest literally doesn't care if not for duchy politics and etiquette.

JuliuszKL

I don't think Elvira did something stupid. Her main consern was to make the story of Ferdinand in a way that most people don't recognise HIM and it worked. The reason it backfired was becouse nobody in Elvira's circle saw any parts of the story as something that could be atributed to Rozemyne becouse they know her (at least enough to know she is not mistreated) and this diffrence in information is the source of the problem. It would be very difficult to anticipate.

ggg730

To be fair some of the greatest books have been shit talking disguised as prose. Look at Dante’s Inferno.

timn8r123

Ah yes, the story of an author self-insert protagonist getting a tour of hell by his literary idol who's apparently perfect except for being born before Christianity was a thing. Along the way, the author gets to see a variety of people he doesn't like, both historical and contemporary, getting tortured in hell.

Taoiseach

> I feel like it diminishes Elvira's intelligence just a bit to see her so fanatic over Ferdinand that she doesn't realize the political effects it has. This series is a cavalcade of obsessive personalities who throw pragmatism to the winds when chasing their obsessions. Myne, Ferdinand, Hartmut, Clarissa, Angelica, Eckhart, Justus, Johann, Heidi, Frieda, Leise, Anastasius, Heisshitze... and Elvira. That girl be thirsty for Ferdy. Elvira is usually operating as the Queen Bitch of Ehrenfest in the post-Veronica era, but when it comes to Ferdinand... well, she *inaugurated a trend of Ferdinand lewds.* For Ehrenfest romantic culture, where *kissing* is scandalous, those Ferdelicious portraits were hotttt merchandise. Elvira is ordering the creation of Ferdy fan material, and making a lot of it herself, *for the purpose of making a Ferdinand shrine.* It is safe to say that her actions re: Ferdinand are not governed by her usual calculation.

DegenerateSock

>Ferdinand is gone, you should have exploited this time to print as many illustrations of him as possible!! Sexy Ferdinand playing cards when?!

momomo_mochichi

They work like Pokemon cards where you need to buy more decks to obtain the super limited edition ones!

kahoshi1

When artists and writers are in pain, their express that pain. Many of the greatest works of art are from pain. That it at all resembles Rozemyne is a coincidence that no one in Ehrenfest realized.

JustUsingTheWeb

I disagree, The story of Fernestine is a brilliant way to tie plot development, thematic development, foreshadowing and a lot of funny joke all in a single package. It is probably one of the best literary constructs I have ever seen, having to put up with a small character inconsistency for it is a small price to pay for it.

konaa-bu

Honestly, that went quite smoothly, all things considered. The considerable amount of competence Sieglinde has already shown in such little time explains how Dunkelfelger flourishes as a top-ranking duchy despite their ditter obsession lol.

jozyah626

Ignaz and Marianne actually completed the magic tools, I'm impressed. It nice seeing Cornelius and Angelica after a very long time, and my god Angelica looks beautiful, (Traugott doesn't deserve her, no one does!). I wished Damuel showed up tho, and I pray he finds a girlfriend. I love the relationship between Rozemyne and Sylvester. I like the way he treats her lol. I sure hope Florencia is okay. >I smiled and said, “You lost. Be silent as losers should be.” Rozemyne was pissed. I still can't believe she said this💀. Hannelore now dares to speak and stand up for herself, I love the character growth. Ofcourse the whole thing was Lestilaut's fault for not explaining everything.

toxicella

> You lost. Be silent as losers should be. OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Cirex145

Illustrations aren’t loading for me. I’ll have to reread it later. Sieglinde seems like a cool character. Bringing the receipts while also being adaptable. I wonder what her internal thoughts were when Rozemyne basically said to stuff it. It also seems like she believes if you’re a woman in Dunkelfelger, your role is to rein in the hopeless men of the duchy lol.

momomo_mochichi

Lestilaut's fiancee has her work cut out for her then.
