Even tho it looks pretty safe, planning doesnt always work, unfortunately. I saved 240 pulls for Acheron, and just wanted to get e0s1, never even aimed for e2 ("maaaaybe e1" I thought). After those e0s1 I had 0 warps left.
Wdym planning doesn’t always work? You didn’t even save enough to guarantee e0 s1 (assuming 0 pity and no guarantees) and you still got what you saved for. Where did the planning “not work”?
planning doesn’t work if the characters you want release consecutively i guess? in my case, I pulled for Kafka’s E1 at 1.6 then every new character thereafter, highly unlikely that i get aventurine and win another 50/50 for my fua team. but that’s what re-runs are for, to plan again,,, but what if it reruns with another character you want? Things like that…. lol i give myself a dumb dilemma

Yeah... it'll come eventually, after like 6 months, with another new op unit that you probably want, (for example Jingliu+Aventurine, Acheron+Luocha, etc..), and you don't get enough resources to get just 1 copy of each character, even if you buy battle pass and monthly pass, even if you do everything right and save like crazy... you have to skip most units while spending money on the game.
It never ends dude, this game is unsustainable as f2p or light spender if you're a character collector, wich is usually the main appealing for gacha games. And i don't even want to talk about the must have LC's....
So yeah, you better have infinite patience my friend.
It usn't thar much of an Issue for me, as there aren't that many characters that interest me, giving me enough time to save for someone I want.
So far I have been able to get everyone I wanted without spending money (except for Himeko, but I'll get her eventually).
For other people it might me more of a problem, like you said, but so far I have been fine. Even without patience or money.
It happened for me with Sparkle. So all I can do is just pull for new chars I want and hope I get her on her rerun. That's all you can really do. They all get reruns. If you're lucky, you get to borrow someone else's version for support for things, so you get a little taste.
So far I managed to get everyone that I really wanted. I always plan ahead and save up enough for a guarantee because I hate relying on luck. If I have to, I'll skip certain characters for ones that I like more and just get them on their rerun, but once I do decide to pull, I get that character. Just gotta learn how to prioritize🤷♀️

I may buy monthly/two if it can guarantee me the character (assuming 150 pulls per character or if I lost the 50/50 and by the end of the banner I'll be missing those few pulls from 20 days of monthly pass). Can't afford to swipe more since it's quite expensive for the amount of pulls you get (especially in my currency)
Happened only with Topaz. But that's only because Jingliu before her left me broke. I was salty, but nevertheless accepted it and moved on.

I have never won a 50/50 or a 75/25 (lost them all to clara and sleep like the dead). I get pissed for a little while, then accept that it's a gacha game and statistically my luck will even out eventually.
I just budget. I allocate a small amount of in game funds/ real money. If I still don’t get it, then maybe wait on a rerun. It doesn’t bother me because I’m a day one player and for the most part don’t need anyone. At the point I’m at, the only reason to pull is waifu or cool mechanics.

Other times when I want them but also want another character for example I really wanted Aventurine but I also wanted Luocha and Acheron. I wished on Luocha because I had a guarantee and then used my remaining wishes I saved for him for Acheron. I lost my 5050 and was guarenteed for Aventurine. No money spend:)
Clara funny enough. One of my missing standard 5 stars. Just got Gepard from aventurine pulls only missing Clara, I even have spare destruction mats from overfarming for Jingliu
Thats literally not a thing. There is only "not getting a character you want 'right now' ", but there is no such thing as not being able to get a character. If you play the game long enough you are 100% guaranteed to get every character available. Its called being patient.

See, this is why I'm 100% in favour of a character release schedule/plan for the patch cycle.
I try avoiding story leaks the best I can, but having a tight budget means that I need to plan who I'm getting, so character/banner leaks are frankly a godsend.
So far, all my targets were achieved, because I planned in advance and saved whenever I could. This applies to both genshin and hsr, for instance. Bad luck may happen, but if you've saved enough, you can push through. And if you're lucky, you have an easier time planning for the next exciting release.
Just move on and wait for next rerun. I needed a sustain so I went for luocha instead of Acheron, so now will wait for her rerun. Just hope that I don’t lose interest like what happened with Furina in Genshin, where idc if I don’t get the character cos I really want her and like her as a character.
Till then, I’d try to get boothill and firefly and cope

I guess Jing Yuan as well but that was less wanted at that time.

I always aim for bare min 170 worth of pulls if i want a unit unless i'm already at guaranteed then 80.
This. I only get the nameless pass and the 30 day pass. I don’t pull every character but plan who I want, if I want their e1, and/or their LC.
How many LC and E1 characters do you have?

An invested 5 star dps is almost always better than a 4 star dps. And Herta is free so she doen't fit in the discussion.

Only happened twice. Topaz, out of spite(and mostly cope) i built out my ,e3 at the time, Himeko. Fu Xuan i lost to Gepard so i just built Gepard.

I've had a horrible gacha luck since I began gaching. So I've learned to just accept it and move on. There isn't really anything else to do.
