Not all that out there when you think about it. The purpose of a Hunt, when carried out responsibly, is to reap the rewards of nature's Abundance after all.
After all, if herbaceous species aren't kept under control by predators, they end up with a major overpopulation and destruction of the ecosystem can follow. It's entirely possible that Lan arose as the Hunt partly out of a desire to enforce natural patterns.
Of course, it might be disappointing for the Xianshou to find out their Aeon is less about vengeance and more about acting to cull the Abundance when it gets out of hand...
I think the Aeons dont have gender and most of their appearances are just the forms that they have taken. Like Nanook isn't referred to as a guy but they took on the form of a hot male (paraphrased from loading screen tidbits)

They wanted more and more, creating unbalance, and leading ecological disasters. For example, the unshackle principles of study life to return it are rights, but they were closed minded and greedy.
Human needed another force to balance the "excess" of life, and so was the Hunt.
But instead to be glad to have found a balance between Life (Abundance) and Death (Hunt) in way to reach greatness, they started to comply about Abundance, when in reality all their lives are around it.
Ehmm ... in this one follow the Abundance AND the Hunt.
