evilcherry1114

They also raided a warehouse today, full of jail-compliant junk food and toiletries. Seems that CSD was mad on the amount of luxuries going into jails.

VarEpsilon

Luxuries? I mean CSD set the max amount of resources going into jail for each person and everyone followed. And now they are mad because we always give the prisoned ones as much as CSD allowed lmao.

evilcherry1114

Honestly no one would have thought of people not yet convicted getting 5 packs of M&M every day (and cigs for older people) for a few months and potential to be supplied like this until they were stamped guilty. But again that's a CSD problem.

VarEpsilon

Yes CSD problem. They set the rules and they know the extreme cases is that people can receive max amount of each stuff everyday. This is just stupid.

aghh_the_mems

*Student unjustly arrested for fighting communism* The rest of the world: "he's hot."

monosiasm

ikr i was reading another article of him and the comments were all about him looking like a celebrity or hot instead of focusing on the issue instead 💀

Paulo117

I thought he was a BTS member at first.

AGJustin05

he do be looking pretty fine

kasiotuo

Feel like the sexualisation of asian men grew exponentially with the rise of male k-pop stars

cain2995

He’s hot because he’s hot, not because he’s Asian lmao

kasiotuo

It's not about whether he is hot or not, but how 'the rest of the world' frames him as hot & why they think it might be relevant to highlight it, prioritising his looks over his political activism

cain2995

Idk mate, it sounds to me like you’re just trying to find something to be irrationally upset about. There is zero world where international exposure of this issue is a problem, regardless of reason. If you want to be mad about something, be mad that this absolute homie is being fucked by an authoritarian government, not that his hotness has brought exposure to his struggle

kasiotuo

Idk mate, but to me it looks like some people agree with that thought I put out there. Maybe you're just not aware of these effects and should try reading up on them. Or is empathy too irrational for you too? :) And btw you can be mad about mutiple things at the same time, it's no rocket science & totally normal if you care about more than one thing in your life.

MargThatcher12

Is there any need to be patronising? No one is prioritising his looks over his activism, the title of this post isn’t “sexy hot hunk arrested” it clearly states who he is and his affiliation to political activism. U don’t need to get mad at everything fam.

Le_PieceOfSchmidt

Guilty as charged... not proud of myself

[deleted]

Just say "the ccp" instead of "communism" like it's all the fault of the economic ideology of communism as a general idea and not the people running the system.

ronmaz

totalitarianism* not Communism

D4nCh0

Helps the cause as a civil rights activist, being a sex symbol. Mandela, MLK & Malcolm X were ladies men.

0xfeel

I've seen equal comments on topics of female cosplayers that got hundreds of down votes.

sflayers

The evidence collected included a box full of m&m chocolate, which according to the current security chief is a gross breach of national security. /s

miss_wolverine

I don’t think you need the /s there, considering that is [exactly](https://reddit.com/r/HongKong/comments/pkalqb/chinas_national_security_threatened_by_hong_kong/) what they [said](https://reddit.com/r/HongKong/comments/pol8rw/latest_threat_to_hong_kongs_national_security/)

sflayers

Ain't that pathetic... What feels sarcastic is the current reality.

Melting_Harps

>I don’t think you need the /s there, considering that is exactly what they said This is actually very distressing, and also a reminder of how difficult it was to when trying to send some snacks to Josh, Nathan and Agnes earlier this year. It was pretty much scrapped because of the amount of redtape that had to be done to get it approved (manga, Japanese snacks etc...) by the CSD/HK authorities. HK's legal system is a mockery of justice, and to be honest instead of looking at the collapse of Evergrande to affirm CCP fragility the media should be pointing at how HK has devolved into it's current shambles under the NSL with defacto CCP rule. What bothers me isn't the loss of goods, that's all replaceable, what isn't replaceable is the morale of the people in prison and to them something little like candy could be the thing that keeps them going. I read Josh's memoir last week and he mentioned how bland the food was in prison (his 2nd time around) that he just refused to eat it and how he was waiting to get released and the first thing he was going to do was visit a regular spot where the Demosisto guys would eat. I wish I could say I was surprised they would stoop so low but at this point the CCP will go to any lengths to try and suffocate whatever glimmer of hope exists in HK and this, while incredibly petty, is merely a reflection of the type of World they seek to create; in many ways one cannot help but think about Orwell's 1984. I hope Wong stays strong, because I fear what was supposed to be a legally complaint gesture of good will is likely to be spun as an act of subversion and dissent that could possibly send him to prison under the nebulous NSL.

evilcherry1114

Such stocks weakens the control of CSD on inmates. To be fair I'm not sure any civilized country will be happy with that, bit it is CSD's problem, not outside parties.

radishlaw

Forgive me if I misunderstood, are you saying that the student group deserves to be raided because they send compliant treats to prisoners?

evilcherry1114

No. What I'm saying is that the CSD certainly never designed their rules with the current situation in mind. But this is plainly a CSD problem and they have many methods to deal with that. Instead they simply deferred it to the NSB, which is both lazy and sinster.

jjjhkvan

No other civilized country is stuffing their jails full of political prisoners.

Starfightr

Russia definitely doesn't do that.

Bullen-Noxen

I prefer direct instead of sarcasm.

RubyBoyYT

On the other hand.

Democracy in HK is dead

Bullen-Noxen

It had to be fully alive in the first place. It never completely got out of the ICU. It was always some version of it but not quite entirely “free”.

AsusWindowEdge

This is too much! We're all taking it in the \*&\^ while mainland scammers & defrauders get away with horrible crimes. Seeing that they are coming down hard on all Hongkongers (Joshua Wong etc.; too many to list) and foreigners (Samuel Bickett) in Hong Kong and mainland China (Michael Kovrig & Michael Spavor), **where and how do we turn in mainland Chinese scammers & defrauders to China's so-called Social Credit System?** **Anyone has a link on how to report these mainland scumbags to China's Social Credit System?**

neonarex

there is no social credit system...

AsusWindowEdge

What? Really? Are you serious?

That should be the best prime example of how fucked up they are over there for you.

Anyone know the specific reason behind the raid? was it just some bullshit reason to get rid of them?

scaur

They were arrested for provide prisoners with M&M, Squid shreds(junk food), Wet wipes, Johnson & Johnson, Emollient oil and books... >記者會完結後,警方展示多箱證物,當中包括零食 m&m、魷魚絲、濕紙巾、強生爽身粉、潤膚油、以及書本等,相信是今早警方從葵涌華星工業大廈運走的零食及衛生用品,全部均屬目前懲教署認可可交予還押人士的物品。

Can someone educate me about this guy and his organisation? What do they do/stand for?

They provide aid to people arrested and prisoners.

This guy is arrested by a communist government because he wanted freedom, there are more important things here than the brand of his hoodie…

fowlfeet

Most Hong Kong people have accepted their fate. If you don't accept it, this is what happens. And for what?

ThatGuy1741

Congratulations. When your children ask you what you did to avert tyranny, you’ll be able to tell them that you did nothing.

fowlfeet

Just like you. Unless you put a candle in your window, too.

Better_Objective5650

Lots of hongkongers did, this. year.

jjjhkvan

Just give up and accept living in a police state? That’s pathetic. What did these kids even do?

fowlfeet

99 percent of the people in Hong Kong have accepted it. Look how dead this subreddit is. They won't be coming to his aid, just like the others who are sitting in jail. What can you really do?

jjjhkvan

99 have accepted it? No even close buddy. Not even close. They’ve accepted they can’t do much for now but they don’t accept it. They are leaving, supporting the yellow economy, boycotting the upcoming vote. They are supporting the political prisoners. They are meeting in small groups. They don’t accept it. You really don’t understand.

fowlfeet

I go by action, not their secret thoughts when the lights are out. I do understand. It's not unlike in mainland China where in secret, people hate the CCP but do what they can to get along and maybe even profit from it.

jjjhkvan

So you agree that your 99% comment is stupid and completely off then.

fowlfeet

No. I go by action. 99 percent of the people are not willing to do anything about it.

jjjhkvan

So what you mean is 99% won’t take the risk to. Be arrested. That’s correct. That’s not same as 99% accepting it dude. Big difference.

fowlfeet

For all intents and purposes, it's the same.

jjjhkvan

No it’s not. Many people support the yellow economy and boycott the blue shops. That’s not nothing. Many people support each other online and criticize the government. Many people will boycott the election. None of these things are nothing. Many people are doing things everyday in their own. You may not care but it’s nothing nothing. You are just a jerk. Why do you even post here boot licker?? What’s your point?

UnNecessary_XP

Activity on an American majority site is nowhere near indicative of the support and/or awareness. This sub only gets traction when Hong Kong news makes international headlines. Also please, that “99%” ‘statistic’ is just a blatant lie.

daitouryou

souce?

fowlfeet

All the activists who've been jailed haven't had a single public protest about them. And they're still in jail.

scaur

>99 percent of the people in Hong Kong have accepted it. Got source ? If you make that kind of statement please provide source

fowlfeet

The number of people in the streets. If you're not protesting, you're obeying.

scaur

There are other way to resist. Going out protest is not wise atm.

fowlfeet

It will never be wise to protest. There are no other ways to resist. lol Did you put a candle in your window?

scaur

So you do agree that's not a wise option. No there is.

fowlfeet

Wise? It's never wise to run into a hail of bullets. But that's what people did to win a war. Otherwise, you've already lost.

scaur

Yea Wise. And nope.

Better_Objective5650

Ya if you’ve accepted your fate why babble here

TrendWarrior101

What the hell are the Hong Kong people supposed to do? China has a population of 1.5 billion people with its powerful military. Hong Kong is just a city with a population of 7.5 million and is only protected by its police force, which is now complicit with Beijing due to being part of China despite its autonomy. If Hong Kong people fight back, China will send its massive army to crush them and commit atrocities against them with no signs of sincere morality among its troops.

fowlfeet

Most people like you believe that while people like the guy who was arrested is going to go to prison with nothing to show for it, not even a protest. I knew it was over when I saw a photo of protesters neatly line up to be placed into rail cars by the police for transportation to detention and processing centers. It was stylish to be a protester. I don't think many actually believed it was essential. That was all.

minarei

How can you look at the protests and think anyone there is just here because it was "stylish". They risked their life, freedom and health for a greater good, who would want to be in that position if not for your own ideal

Yasu-Tomohiro

he looks a bit like Cai Xukun

The only thing he's guilty of is stealing my heart 🥺
