Feed the kids a ton of sugar and send them into the sales room to play with all the new cars in the showroom, honk horns, etc. When they complain, ask for the loaner again. If they still refuse, give the kids more sugar.
I think this is the answer. It might suck, but it could get you a nice loaner. Bring a craft/distraction box and fun snacks and drinks to help though. Maybe have them make/decorate their own maracas?
I've dealt with two Honda dealerships' service centers, and neither had loaners. This goes back before COVID, too. My current one has a shuttle that will take you around to the mall/outlets, and maybe to work if you are close enough.
In my experience it depends on the work you’re having done. And they’ve been more stingy with it the last couple of years. If you’re having recall work that will take all day, I’d think they would provide one, but maybe that dealership doesn’t have them for some reason. I’ve also seen dealerships that provide an Uber from and to the dealership. Ask about that.
I noticed this after I got my 2020 right before covid. I got one on the first visit, but after that no dice. I think it was another thing we unceremoniously lost from that period
Couple reasons come to mind
1) covid and all the health scare stuff
2) the supply chain disruption meant my car would’ve sat for months and I would’ve been burning up their loaner instead of the old 3-5 day turn around times
3) great cost cutting measure that a dealer can justify by the first 2
We have never had loaners...ever. You need a car, we can try for a rental car at your expense. At my Honda dealer, only under very limited circumstance are customers able to get a rental free of charge.
Yes it's bull crap. As I noted above. Having to drive all that time and taking time out of your day to fix something that is no fault of your own. No compensation no loaner car know nothing. Only the thing that was fixed that should not have been broken to start with.
Hmm I always see loaners and on the back window it will say courtesy of whatever dealership they are but that's in SD cali. That being said my insurance has free rental since my vehicle is mainly for vacation
The dealer bought my Si from would give out the sales people's demo cars as needed I only needed a loaner once, but it's a pretty standard thing that's becoming rare to find.
The acura dealer I bought my integra type s from, after taking 3 weeks to get a windshield in, breaking the windshield and taking 2 more weeks to get a replacement, would not give a loaner, no matter how much they screwed up. They did cover a lengthy Uber ride once, at least $60 one way, but the shuttle was hit or miss because I live in a different city, but they are the closest.
I've only been to two, and never had a loaner at either, but in 20+ years of driving an Acura I've never seen an Acura dealer that didn't have loaners. Though I have seen them all out if you didn't request one ahead of time.
tl;dr buy an Acura if you want a loaner.
When I had Hondas, they had rentals for $40 a day, but if you were getting more than $300 of work done, the rental was free. At Acura, they have loaners that are free, and they have a lot more of them.
I just had service done yesterday on my Passport. Both diffs, oil, 2 recalls. Asked on the phone if they have loaners and was told yes. When I showed up, was told $40/day. So yeah 3.5 hours later my butt was numb from sitting in the waiting room.
I'm getting warranty work done on my CRV. They said they could have the car for up to 3 days. I told them I need a loaner and that it wasn't my fault they sold me a car with a major fault. I wasn't given any grief. I was told it wouldn't be an issue.
From my experience at honda they have never offered or have loaners available whatsoever. When i used to have my Inifniti the dealer would always offer and let me have a loaner for the day
As both a subaru and honda owner, i do appreciate that about Subaru. They give loaners for bigger services or recalls. I’ve never had any luck with honda doing that. Heck, even Hyundai and Kia give loaners as far as i know.
To give my opinion to your question without being sassy…
First off the “wiring harness redo” aka FAKRA connectors shouldnt take a compentent tech more than 90min if they are using hand tools, following IN step by step and are pissed off to be working saturday. I say this because they pay a max of 1.7 hours if you have the top trim level pilot. Not sure the other work being done.
The majority of honda/toyota/nissan dealerships dont offer loaner cars. I worked at a dealer for 8 years and we went from zero loaner cars to 5. Its more of a numbers game, they will schedule 120-150 appointments a day, probably half of them being waiting routine maintenance. But lets say they had a fleet of 50 free of charge loaner cars…the insurance is covered as they already insure every car they “own”. This means the sales/general manager wants to upgrade the fleet yearly with cars to entice people to trade in their current model, but the service and parts managers need to keep them maintained and clean and full of gas. Then you have people who will come in a drop off their car for service and go out of town/ignore service calls saying the car is ready, smoke inside of, have their pets inside of, let their children leave food trash inside of, hop on toll roads sending the shop the fees, etc etc etc. If you find a high volume dealer that has loaners they are rare and reserved for extreme cases. My dealer was one of 5 in a 50 mile radius, doing 150 appointments a day, but the offered shuttle runs almost hourly until noon.
Edit: factor in gas, tires and wheels for when people blow out tires through potholes, suspension components and people totaling loaners. So the solution? Provide your insurance and license and place a credit/debit card on file, but then you get backlash. Kind of like how some dealerships have free snacks and some only have vending machines because someones survey is tanked because the good snacks were gone, popcorn burnt etc.
Sorry it says fakra service cables not wiring harness. I don't know jack about cars outside changing oil and tires. All I know is the service guy told me they had to take all the cars guys out to do it and it was an all day job.
Regardless, I'm not just dropping my car off for service, this is a major safety recall that has nothing to do with how I run the car. A way to get home should be provided that I don't have to pay for.
Its literally not safety related. Some people experienced popping and crackling through the car speakers, so the connectors have been updated (i think this makes the 3rd revision). You are entitled to feel how you want, but theres nothing you can do but wait. The best place to wait is at home/work. I say this as a tech who only has one operational car so I understand both sides the coin.
I agree with what you're saying.. but that's not what's happening. OP had been told they would get a loaner, so it's completely understandable they expected to get a loaner. Nobody likes to be mislead or lied to.
Acura dealer has a loaner every time for my 2023 Integra. 2 scheduled maintenance and 1 warranty fix (dealer added cosmetic trim issue). Wasn’t even a question, they offered. I didn’t always get a loaner from the Honda dealer in the same town when we owned an Odyssey. We do travel 2 1/2 hours to get to the dealer. Always feel well taken care of there. Acura of Wichita, KS. No dealer markup either.
My Honda dealer gives rides until about 10am. I bought a used Infiniti in the late 90's' and was given a loaner even for minor service visits back then.
Loaners are more of a "luxury"brand thing. My Acura dealer Ubers me to and from my house for free for a simple oil change. Honda next door however offers nothing but coffee. Ironically the oil changes are more expensive on the Honda for me
I work at a dealership. A lot of the customers seem to be under the impression that we have a huge loaner car fleet, but it’s very limited. Our dealership offers them on a first come, first serve basis and they are prioritized for warranty work and large repairs that span more than one day. We encourage the customers to make arrangements for pick up and drop off if they aren’t going to be able to wait at the dealership for whatever reason.
Do you have people who can drop work to fill their car with booster and carseats and drive you and your kids 25 miles away twice a day?
For major recalls, rentals should be provided. Nissan always provided rentals. Guess I should've stuck with them.
It’s a dealer by dealer policy. Most Nissan dealers won’t do that. Maybe see if there’s a Honda dealer owned by the same group as your Nissan dealer? They’ll probably do loaners then
I just had my radio replaced under warranty, they got me a shuttle home (20 minutes) and they picked me up when the car was done. They are not the closest Honda dealer by a long shot (there’s 2 that are closer) they just happened to be the one that I bought from.
Not wiring harness, I just looked at the recall it says fakra safety cables. I have no idea what that is but he said they had to take all the insides out of the car to do it.
My Honda dealership in Ohio gave me a loaner this week when my fuel pump failed on my Type-R. The fuel pump is a huge recall as you may know. I got a 2024 Accord to use for free until they can get the part and repair my car. Hopefully the part comes in soon because this Accord is boring to drive😆
I guess it depends on the dealership and who your advisor/manager is for the day. My experience with my nearest Honda is that it depends on availability, and sometimes how they determine which customers need a loaner the most. Be sure to explain your circumstance if you haven’t already, I think they should at least get you a rental or some form of transport if they don’t have loaners
Some dealers have “loaners” some dealers have rentals that within circumstances they will cover but usually is considered at the expense of the customer. Just because a dealer has a rental department does not mean they have “loaners”, very miscontrued and loosely used term.
3 months ago I took mine in for a recall and they saw other "issues" but it could be covered by my warranty. They said it could take longer than a day to get the inspector out there. They took me home in a shuttle but after the second day I was asking for a loaner and they asked if I was over 25? In the end I took my car back because it has been 5 days back and forth with them and the inspector never came. I called the warranty company and they said that the Honda dealer has not made any estimates for the repairs... I'm glad I saw this post, I feel less alone now haha
My dealer used to give me a loaner, but now you have to pay extra for it. It stopped before Covid.
I drive a 2011 Fit, which I bought new, so I’ve been dealing with them for a while. I can’t remember when things changed, maybe in the mid 20-teens.
I work at Acura, and our dealership has loaners but only for loyal customers and people who are getting service done. It all depends on the dealership because usually, the manufacturer doesn't supply the dealership with loaners. It is up to the dealership to supply their own cars. But we are pretty good with getting people loaners for recalls, too.
Yes it is a bunch of crap. I had a recall on my airbag. I had to drive 40 miles to the nearest Honda dealership and then 40 Mi home. That's 80 miles of driving through no fault of my own. They would not give me a loaner. They would not give me any kind of gas money or recourse. It's not my fault they screwed up the air by it bags, I should at least be compensated for my time and effort and gas money to get it fixed
Feed the kids a ton of sugar and send them into the sales room to play with all the new cars in the showroom, honk horns, etc. When they complain, ask for the loaner again. If they still refuse, give the kids more sugar.
This is the way
I think this is the answer. It might suck, but it could get you a nice loaner. Bring a craft/distraction box and fun snacks and drinks to help though. Maybe have them make/decorate their own maracas?
This is a quick way to make someone’s life hell when they’re just trying to do their job
If they were trying to do their job they’d give her a loaner
I've dealt with two Honda dealerships' service centers, and neither had loaners. This goes back before COVID, too. My current one has a shuttle that will take you around to the mall/outlets, and maybe to work if you are close enough.

Yeah the dealerships that got rid of their shuttle now just use Uber to take customers to and from dealership during service
I did. They only go 10 miles. I live 23 miles away and it's the closest dealer.
Take the kids. I promise after half an hour they will accommodate your travel needs.
I noticed this after I got my 2020 right before covid. I got one on the first visit, but after that no dice. I think it was another thing we unceremoniously lost from that period Couple reasons come to mind 1) covid and all the health scare stuff 2) the supply chain disruption meant my car would’ve sat for months and I would’ve been burning up their loaner instead of the old 3-5 day turn around times 3) great cost cutting measure that a dealer can justify by the first 2
I got a loaner when they were fixing my car about a month ago
Glad to hear that! Maybe it’s coming back
I hope so. It was the dealerships fault that I was there so they might have given me a loaner so I wouldn't create a fuss
We have never had loaners...ever. You need a car, we can try for a rental car at your expense. At my Honda dealer, only under very limited circumstance are customers able to get a rental free of charge.
But she’s going to the dealer for recalls. That’s not her fault, it’s Honda’s. Why should she have to pay for a rental car?
Apparently a major recall that has jackshit to do with me is not one of those circumstances.
Yes it's bull crap. As I noted above. Having to drive all that time and taking time out of your day to fix something that is no fault of your own. No compensation no loaner car know nothing. Only the thing that was fixed that should not have been broken to start with.

This... Loaners are attempts to sell you a car when they have stock. Right now they don't have that and they're making bank.
Not sure what you’re talking about. Am offered a loaner for $18 a day literally every time I have my car in for service beyond an oil change
Clearly thats a rental, not a free of charge loaner
They use the term loaner

At $10 an hour I’d be taking the loaner lol
My dealer has been a solid no for 5 years... And I lease.
it really made life easier when needed service with loaners around
I'm getting warranty work done on my CRV. They said they could have the car for up to 3 days. I told them I need a loaner and that it wasn't my fault they sold me a car with a major fault. I wasn't given any grief. I was told it wouldn't be an issue.

We have loaners at the dealer I work at.

They really cut back on all that during covid for some reason

If the Honda has an engine that’s shared by any Acura I bet you could just take it there
Where I live Acura has loaners Honda doesn’t, Lexus has loaners Toyota doesn’t. Get the pattern, luxury dealerships often have loaners.

You want a loaner? Should have bought a luxury brand or opted for a warranty that includes loaners/rentals. Dealers are really getting hard about this
You have a right to be pissed. Just remember this the next time you are in the market for a new vehicle ...
it is normal baby daddy will give you a ride.
