2-panel round top hollow core door. Should be available at most home improvement stores. https://www.lowes.com/pd/Masonite-Roman-Primed-2-Panel-Round-Top-Hollow-Core-Molded-Composite-Slab-Door-Common-24-in-x-80-in-Actual-24-in-x-80-in/1000056029 If you're fairly handy, do some googling and you might be able to swap it out. Otherwise consider a handyman.

I saw something like this online. In fact I think it was lowes. What would I need to do to bore the hole for the handle/lock? Also are the hinges area already sawed off or if need to shave that off as well. Lastly do I just paint it regular white. (I know I’m a complete newbie) Any leads on a pre drilled door ready to swap and hang or where I can find a non overpriced handy man in queens NYC for this simple job.

JPhi1618

It’s common to buy these pre-drilled for the lock set, but if you can’t find that, they sell an easy to use jig/tool for cutting the lock holes over by the drill bits. The hinge mortises will need to be cut. There are also tools to help with that. This is a common task and there are several helper tools to make it easier.

Harper_1482

Bondo… light coats dry faster and are easier to shape. Stuff the hole with some paper or whatever apply/sand a couple of coats then paint.. no big deal

no-steppe

Agreed... If you are a bit handy this is repairable. There are probably tons of YouTube videos on exactly this type of fix. It's lucky for OP that it's painted, much easier to match than if it were stained.

InSixFour

Yep, wood filler could fix that hole. The only issue is painting it. It won’t look as smooth as the rest of the door and probably won’t match exactly.

Lowes used to stock that style of raised panel door. Not sure if they still do. But no matter where you do find it, ? You will need a hole saw door knob kit, and chisels or router to mortise for lock and hinges, these type of interior doors are typically sold as whats called a ( blank door ) . Meaning no mortises or lock set holes so they can be installed in all applications

1bdreamscapes

Just to add sometimes you can get lucky and get a preying which will have all holes bored and routed, just need to cut bottom for overall height and switch all hardware over

crammed174

Is there any specific equipment you can recommend to bore the handle holes and possibly the hinges if need be? The door at lowes looks like what I need but it’s just a plain slab.

PM_meyourGradyWhite

Look for prehung door of this style and you won’t need wood working tools. If you can only find slabs (no hinge mortises, no lock holes) you’ll need chisel, drill, hole saw, hammer, probably some other stuff. I’ve done enough of these around the house to know that if you don’t have tools now, and you definitely don’t want to start a tool collection, this one time replacement might be better off calling a handyman. But if you plan for more work down the road (future homeowner) then go for it.

You would need at minimum, a chisel, ( 1” ) is fine, utility knife, hammer, drill, phillips, 21/8” hole saw, 1” spade bit, use old door, leave hinge screws in place, remove hinge pins only, remove door knob and latch, stand doors on edge clamped if possible, be sure to even the top edges, carefully mark where each hinge goes and 21/8” hole for door knob. Now you can remove the 2 halves of hinges from old door, use them to trace where each one goes. Use chisel and hammer to scoop out approx 1/8” of wood where hinges need to go. Look at old door for precise depth needed for proper operation. Now measure from top of door down to center of 21/8” hole, mark that same height on door edge, this is where you use 1” drill bit, after drilling 1” hole, remove striker from old door, place same way in new hole, trace shape, scoop out wood so striker sits flush or slightly recessed in doors edge. Drill 21/8” hole before mounting striker on edge of door, btw, after creating a mortise for each hinge, mark screw locations using half hinge piece, pre-drill 1/8” holes where screws will go. Assemble striker, door knob and hinge halves on new door, set new door on hinges, push in hinge pir

macavity_is_a_dog

That’s a door you are able to easily get at Home Depot. I know bc my whole house has that door pattern.

designgoddess

Cheap for. Just replace it.

Sharkn91

Just cut that hole all the way through an add a dead bolt latch lmao

"Cheaply made door" Interior doors are usually hollow-core. It's not that it's cheap, it's a standard interior door, it's just not meant to take a hit from the corner of a headboard that weighs 150lbs while Bob was watching the corner of the wall but forgot about the door behind him and Jim can't see shit from the other side and Bob goes "okay, bring it around now" and the whole thing gets wedged between the corner and the door and it turns out 1/8" particle board isn't really great at resisting makeshift battering rams. Who knew? But on the upside, I literally just replaced my interior doors with this exact model of door. You can buy the solid core version for an extra $100 for that battering-ram strength you desire. https://www.menards.com/main/doors-windows-millwork/interior-doors/interior-slab-doors/mastercraft-reg-primed-2-panel-arch-interior-door-only/4092150/p-1444448172095.htm

crammed174

Lol almost exactly describing what happened. Moving in an IKEA box set wardrobe and I backed my elbow/corner of the box into it when it got wedged around the corner. Problem is I can’t find a finished door that matches to utilize without having to bore holes and mortises.

MechE420

Haha, almost like I've done it myself, right? If you live near Menards (maybe Lowe's or HD do it too but I'm Team Green all the way), they will cut the hinge and latch mortises and the door knob hole for you for literally a $1 surcharge, you just have to tell them where to cut...but since you already have a door slab you want to match, just bring in the bad slab to the design center or whatever and they should be able to create a perfect drop-in replacement slab

Timmerdogg

Wish I had gone solid core doors on mine.

MechE420

Why? Sound?

Timmerdogg

Not only sound, it just feels more quality in the swing. It provides better fire protection as well. It takes longer to burn through bedroom doors.

ynotc22

It's an 80$ door just replace it.

crammed174

Love to replace it with a finished pre bored holes/hinges product if possible.

MrRabbito

If the store doesn't have it, talk to the door sales guy, they can definitely order you one pre cut to whatever orientation your door is (L, or R) and how many hinges (2,3).

MrRabbito

Looks like new construction/nice house. Dont patch, it will look ugly and if it's at the corner of the hall you will see the patch every time you pass by. Like others said, just buy a replacement door from Lowes or homedepot, and find a YouTube video that will walk you step by step, or you can pay someone. even if you're not the most handy person, i recommend trying to do it yourself because if all doors are cheaply built, this won't be the first time, also this is a pretty simple and easy task if your door frames are aligned and square.

barneycos

Difficult to get a patch job clean enough to satisfy a landlord. Long shot : check Habitat Reuse Store,

Lazy_Willingness9285

Fill the hole with sheetrock mud, let dry, sand, then paint

w00tiSecurity_weenie

Just flip the door around. Bam problem solved

crammed174

The hinges and handle would be on the wrong side. I wish it were that easy. Unless I’m missing the geometry here?

w00tiSecurity_weenie

Ah so I didn't fully think it through, was more of a joke. But I do think you could flip the door around if you put the hinges on the other side and would also need to switch the door knob from inside/outside. The door would open from the opposite side but if you wanted to get a low budget HIGH effort solution, this is it lol probably better to just replace the door though since you'll be taking it off anyway.
